* ManlyTears: Sheds them several times in ''[=JN056=]'', courtosy of Hoh's commentaries about their training.

* RealityEnsues: Up until she saw Ash on the news, Serena never had any inclination to start out on a journey. By the time she meets up with Ash, she’s unsure with what she wants to do and spends a quarter of the series trying out different activities she had some skill in before finally settling on Showcases.

* TheBusCameBack: He makes his return and official series appearance in ''[=JN056=]''

* GlassCannon: While her Pokémon know some impressive abilities, Serena doesn't show a great amount of improvisation and composure when she starts losing the upper hand and very often requires assistance or PlotArmor against a stronger opponent. [[OhCrap She panicked]] when ''Meowth'' could fight off Fennekin's attacks.

* NonActionGuy: Female version. Whenever there was a chance for her to fight, her battles mostly always ended with them getting interrupted by outside interference (that she didn't even try to stop alone) or her team evolving during a match to give them enough of a power boost. Even when she had things perfectly under control, she hands it over to someone else asking to keep fighting instead of her, and whenever she has promised to fight to help others train, it would always be sidetracked by other events that would make her forget. The only action she sees is whenever she has to do a team effort against Team Rocket or a similar threat.

* TookALevelInBadass: Mostly defied. Team Rocket's VillainDecay aside, Serena's performance never really elevated throughout the course of the series, remaining a GlassCannon whose best tactic was spamming her Pokémon's best attacks. In her final battle with Ash however, she has a greater display of strategy, having Braixen take on a unique battle style to resist and briefly gain the upper hand against Pikachu, even if she was still clearly the less advanced opponent.

* WhatTheHellHero: Played straight and subverted. After Ash loses to Wulfric, [[LeaveMeAlone he gets antsy with Serena]], leading her to chew him out furiously and declare his current state to be nothing like the Ash she knew before this. [[WasTooHardOnHim She starts regretting this afterwards]], admitting she has [[WartsAndAll rather high expectations of Ash from how much she admires him]]. Just as she accepts this as unrealistic however, Ash later admits she was right, with Serena just content she once again has the happy Ash she admires exactly like before.

* GlassCannon: They can supply a lot of damage but aren't very resistant. Combined with Serena's novice strategy level mentioned above, they tend to only fare well in battles they can win with a few quick attacks.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: [=PokeTV=] 42 showcases the Kalos Gym Leaders, [[spoiler:obviously tying into their BigDamnHeroes in the same episode.]] The order is the same sequence the player must fight them in the games, although Lumiose Gym is depicted last, after Snowbelle. And the gym leader is...''Clembot''. Clemont complains why he isn't included in the lineup at all.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: If you've played the game, you should already know that he's the gym leader of Lumiose City. [[SpoilerOpening The opening also shows his silhouette in the lineup with the other regional gym leaders.]]

* Meganekko: A male example. You've gotta admit, he ''is'' kinda cute.

* NonActionGuy: In terms of his physical ability, but being a gym leader, he is certainly no pushover in Pokémon battles.

A girl who lives with her mother in the Kalos region. After seeing Ash's face on a news report, she's certain that he's the same boy she met when she was younger. Serena joins Ash on his quest despite not knowing to what end, though she eventually decided that her dream was to become a Pokémon Performer. Of note is that all her Pokemon are mammalian, owning two foxes and a panda cub. Both of her foxes are female, remarkable given only one out of eight specimens of those Pokemon are female.

* JerkassRealization: After getting angry and hurt at Ash when he yelled at her for attempting to cheer him up then failed to find him in a snowstorm, Serena realized how badly she lost her temper as she believed to be the reason why he took off further was because of her. Once she met back up with Ash, Serena tried to apologizes to him but he stopped her from saying anything as he assured her that he was the one who lost it and showed her how truly sorry he was for hurting her.

* WartsAndAll: Serena was slightly blindly smitten with Ash initially. As time passed, she is still in love with him, if not even moreso, but more aware of his shortcomings and willing to set him straight over it (if in a mostly civil manner compared to those he had traveled with before).

* YankTheDogsChain: Circumstances prevent Serena from partnering up with Ash for a dance party (Miette was only the tip of the iceberg). They later learn it's a rotation dance, so Serena gets to dance with almost everyone, but just when she and Ash are finally going to pair up, the dance ends. She immediately laments the fact.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Much like the times he did for her, she does for him, even when she was angry at Ash for yelling at her for trying to cheer him up after losing to Wulfric, she does this by saying that he isn't being himself right then, which actually helps him snap out of his depression.

* ZettaiRyouiki: Type A, in her first and second outfits, her black socks shows only her upper thighs.
