* MoralityChain: [[spoiler:Being inadvertently stuck on one end of Apo's FriendOrIdolDecision, Acho manages to talk him down enough to choose to salvage their friendship instead of trying to earn Martyn/Blondbeard's approval. It's also [[MoralityChainFromBeyondTheGrave stars death shortly afterward]] that motivates Apo to further seek guidance and fully align with the Nightingales again.]]

* AlcoholInducedIdiocy: PlayedForDrama. Apo attends Water and Jeffery's wedding while drunk on beer and tries to flirt with the groom in the process. However, since Martyn had tasked him to [[spoiler:block off the doorways and provide a distraction for his own secret assassination plans]], Apo's intoxication causes [[spoiler:the bridal assassination to fall through, for which Martyn lays onto Apo, tasking him to kill Acho to prove himself worthy of joining Blondbeard's crew]].

* FriendOrIdolDecision: After [[spoiler:failing to aid him in killing Water at her wedding]] on Day 125, [[spoiler:Martyn]] orders Apo to kill Acho to "earn his place" as part of his crew [[spoiler:as Blondbeard]] -- regardless of preexisting loyalties, before theatening him and throwing him off the ship, leaving Apo in a dilemma between going against his ally in [[spoiler:the anti-Corruption crusade]] and betraying his friend. After being confronted about the Cruppy torture incident by Graecie on Day 126, Apo [[spoiler:takes the conversation the wrong way; assuming he's going to get kicked out of the faction for this, he ends up following through with Martyn's order as Blondbeard to try to kill Acho at the southern Ice Wall on Day 128, i.e. the prerequisite for him joining up with Blondbeard's crew]].

* BrightCastle: Spends most of her series building an extravagant purple and white castle, which stands out as a landmark of the Faction Isles as construction on it is completed. [[spoiler:It also ends up poorly defended when Martyn stages his attack on Water's wedding at the castle in his Blondbeard persona, easily firing cannonball after cannonball and non-canonically killing a couple of the guests and injuring others.]]

* RightForTheWrongReasons: At the start of the finale, during an "interview" with the Kestrels about [[spoiler:Ros' burnt-down castle]], Jojo accuses [[spoiler:Martyn]] of being responsible for it, which he denies. Her justification for this is [[spoiler:Martyn wreaking havoc and firing on the castle as Captain Blondbeard at Water's wedding]], and says that at this point, he's just lying and {{gaslighting}} people. In truth, [[spoiler:it ''was'' Martyn who burnt down Ros' castle, but he did so as a distraction so he could climb into the Faction Isles volcano days ''after'' Water's wedding, and didn't cause any unsalvagable property damage at the wedding itself]].

* CommonalityConnection: Puffy and Scar quickly bond while complaining about Finn's prices on Day 1, with him saying that pirates have to stick together in the face of inflation. The bond is broken minutes later when he scams her out of bread for a banana peel.

* IfICantHaveYou: PlayedForLaughs. The reason Puffy joins up with the Kites is because she flirted with Jeffery the NPC trader, who then stopped speaking and "ghosted" her.

* StreetUrchin: He has lived by stealing from others to get by while away from home. It's this unstable life that leads him back to the Faction Isles, and the reason he joins up with the Nightingales is as protection in case Kyle guns for him even more for stealing from the Kestrels.

* AddledAddict: {{Implied|Trope}} and PlayedForLaughs; Tubbo ''really'' wants his hat back from Owen after the latter stole (and later misplaced) it... and has allegedly stored ''[[AnachronismStew ketamine]]'' in said hat.

* MysteriousPast: Little is known about Apo's life before sailing to the Faction Isles after being told by others about them. Other than spending some part of his childhood climbing trees, as of Day 71, it's only known that an unknown person in his life made a big choice which may have led to the two becoming estranged; as of Day 126, it's known that the person in question was called [[spoiler:Alphie]], who [[spoiler:was the previous owner of his locket]], and that he may have had a history with cults.%%It takes until the [=YouTube=] episodes...

* DemotedToExtra: Bek and Kuervo were the only recurringly appearing Kite faction members in the series; while they have been joined by Eret and Seapeekay later down the line, the rest of the Kites have barely appeared after the first few days, and their numbers keep dwindling over the course of the series. It's ultimately PlayedForDrama in that [[spoiler:about half of them have been captured and killed over the course of the SMP without anyone noticing]], and their lack of presence during server events has been repeatedly [[LampshadeHanging commented on]].

Red is baffled by [[CrazyPrepared this]], being only just made aware of the Bounty Guild's existence mere minutes prior, having no armour on, and being equally (if not more) reputable for being TheDrunkenSailor.

* SkewedPriorities: As he's being introduced to the Bounty Hall on Day 53, Red finds out that he's being actively hunted; instead of worrying about his own life and gearing up with help from Ros and Sausage -- especially since he has ''basically nothing'' at the time, Red tries to defend his ego by manually editing the sign there to ''up his bounty'' from 400 gold to 1000.
