!!Itsuki Tachibana/Itsuki
[[quoteright:157:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuki.PNG]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ShoutaAoi

A completely average OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent who attends Seiga Academy with his friends in his third year. While a good athlete and student, he's notable [[RidiculouslyAverageGuy for being perfectly unremarkable in every regard,]] a fact that leads Rina Izumi to appoint Itsuki as Seiga Academy's Student Council vice president, whereupon he is tasked to play the MMORPG that's sweeping the nation, ''Phantasy Star Online 2''.

In ''[=PSO2=]'', his avatar is '''Itsuki''', who, despite being randomly generated, bears a striking resemblance to his real-life self. He is a Hunter/Braver. While new to the virtual world of the Ethernet, he slowly gains information about the new world surrounding him with the help of his friends and the veteran player, SORO. Although a new player, he has since gained a reputation amongst others for being "that guy" that plays with SORO, a player who usually tackles the game alone.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He attacks the Darkers in a rage when he sees one of them holding [[spoiler: RINA]] hostage in Episode 7.
* BigEater: In Episode 6, he manages to down a whole potluck of food exponentially faster than any of the other council members.
* {{Bishounen}}: While he has a muscular body, Itsuki has a pretty androgynous-looking face for a guy.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:He is told that he has lost access to his Photon powers following the final confrontation against Apprentice. [[AvertedTrope However,]] that doesn't stop him from coming back in ''EPISODE 6''.]]
* TheBusCameBack: Despite, for all intents and purposes, having been seemingly written out the plot altogether at the end of the anime, [[spoiler:he returns in ''EPISODE 6'' to help Aika and Rina fend off the Luminmechs.]]
* DidYouJustHaveSex: His increasing closeness with Aika along with his poor choice of wording convinces the student council that they are in a sexual relationship. Given that [[spoiler:he's getting involved with ARKS, there's no reasonable way for him to explain it.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Itsuki is pretty taken when he sees [[spoiler:RINA]] for the first time.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: He gets these in Episode 9 [[spoiler:while still shell shocked about the boosted Goldrahda that nearly offed him.]] He performs a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan on himself to snap him out of it.
* EverybodyKnewAlready: Itsuki has a single-person version of this when he figures out that SORO is Rina; she would often repeat the same words in real life as in-game, and vice-versa. When Rina confesses to him, he's more surprised about her shouting it than the actual fact.
* {{Fanservice}}: His trip to the hot spring in episode 6 includes multiple shots of his butt.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: [[spoiler:He first met with Rina as a young child on a playground. He has since forgotten this event, but Rina certainly hasn't.]]
* {{Hallucinations}}: Itsuki occasionally sees visions of a shoulder-riding Rappy when he looks at Aika, which he dismisses as being nothing. [[spoiler:This is definitely not a coincidence.]]
* HeroOfAnotherStory: [[spoiler:He's this to the main story; while the primary plot focuses on the exploits of the PlayerCharacter, the anime focuses on the exploits of the people on the other side of the screen.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: It's established early on that Itsuki knows jack-squat about internet ethics, or anything about the internet in general. He reveals Musashi's real-life identity in front of a crowd of players because he didn't know that that's something he ''shouldn't'' be doing. When Musashi had threatened to reveal his identity earlier, Itsuki didn't care because he didn't believe it was that big of a deal.
* JackOfAllTrades: The one remarkable thing about him is that him being "average" accounts for a high level of "average"; he's often known as the "handyman" for being able to be decent at pretty much anything.
* {{Keet}}: He's a rather cheery guy most of the time.
* LargeHam: He gets a moment at the end of Episode 3 when he steals Koa's lines.
* LeeroyJenkins: [[spoiler: He recklessly charges at the boosted Goldrahda in Episode 9 and nearly gets himself killed in the process.]]
* NiceGuy
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He accidentally exposes Musashi as Yutaka in front of a crowd of other players, which causes a lot of WhatTheHellHero reactions from his friends and causes Yutaka to start bailing out on school. To be fair, he also had no idea that doing so was bad practice.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Totally normal guy who just wants a nice, quiet life. Of course, Rina isn't going to make that easy for him.
* TheProtagonist: He's the main character, after all. Just to cement the fact that he's the hero of the story, his character in ''[=PSO2=]'' even wears the same stock outfit the generic [=HUmar=] protagonist wears in all trailers for the game.
* RedArmbandOfLeadership: In the ActionPrologue [[spoiler:and in his ARKS form]], Itsuki has one that's integrated into his costume.
* RememberedICouldFly: It takes some memory-jogging from SORO for him to remember that the Gunslash has a Shot Mode on its Weapon Action. Justified in that he's new and is still getting the hang of things.
* RidiculouslyAverageGuy: In the real world, Itsuki is an average guy with good grades and nothing better to do. His "average" status makes him a good candidate for student council VP, as Rina exposits.
* SecondYearProtagonist: When the story starts, Itsuki is just finishing summer vacation and entering his third year at Seiga.
* ShirtlessScene: In episode 6.
* SignatureMove: Stargazer, the Photon Art that [[spoiler:he summons with his friends to kill Dark Falz Apprentice]]. It runs on ThePowerOfFriendship. [[spoiler:He later uses it to smash apart a ''small army''[='s=] worth of Luminmechs and an ''entire freaking flying battleship'' when helping Aika and Rina defend Earth from Shiva.]]
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:In Episode 7, he gains one that responds to him under unspecified times of crisis. In Episode 8, he gains the ability to manifest it on Earth, and subsequently permanently, turning it into a MidSeasonUpgrade.]]
* StalkerWithoutACrush: In Episode 8, Itsuki begins tailing Aika to figure out what her deal is. Unfortunately for him, everyone thinks he's a StalkerWithACrush; Silva even thinks they're a couple on first sight. [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend He needs to deny this every time someone brings it up.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:Once his SuperMode becomes permanent and turns into a MidSeasonUpgrade, Itsuki's badass level rockets up several notches. However, he still requires training to get his new powers under control.]]
* WeaponOfChoice: Gunslashes. Kouta suggests them to him for their ease of use and versatility. [[spoiler:His MidSeasonUpgrade gives him the Radiant, a Gunslash/Sword hybrid capable of utilizing the strengths of both weapon types handily.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Averted early on with his character; his hair color in-game matches that of his hair in real life: black. He later plays this straight with... blue hair.

!!Rina Izumi/SORO/[[spoiler:RINA]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Ayaka Suwa (Rina), Creator/TesshoGenda (SORO)

The pitch-perfect StudentCouncilPresident of Seiga Academy. She's everything anyone could ever hope to be: smart, athletic, beautiful, graceful, and a strong leader. As the head of the Seiga Academy Student Council, her mission is to delegate the actions of the council and provide the school with feedback on ''Phantasy Star Online 2'', a game that many students of Seiga Academy are infatuated with.

In ''[=PSO2=]'', her avatar is '''SORO''', a self-proclaimed "veteran player" who is alternatively known as the "Lone Warrior" for being a powerful solo player. Despite this, Rina, under the guise of SORO, joins Itsuki and helps him learn the ropes of the game while being a powerful ally. In-game, SORO can be rather chatty at times and is somewhat eccentric.

[[spoiler:In Episode 5, she reveals that her first character was actually '''RINA''', an avatar who looks strikingly like her real-life self. Having realized that both Itsuki and Aika use their real names in ''[=PSO2=]'', she decides to start playing RINA in an effort to connect to Itsuki in real life and in-game.]]

Rina Izumi makes a brief appearance in ''EPISODE 5'' of ''Phantasy Star Online 2''. [[spoiler:Rina is forcefully summoned to the parallel world of Omega, whereupon she is transformed by Ephemera into one of the four denizens of Apprentice, Solitary Rina. The player and their caravan, which includes the queen of Cuent, Harriet, and the child queen of Epic, Margaretta, manage to successfully track her down, but is forced to do battle with her when she summons a massive Darker in the form of SORO, SOROKING D. The player manages to successfully repel SOROKING D, and Rina is returned to Earth by Epic's magic.]]
----
* BadassCape: SORO has a big, red, tattered cape.
* BigDamnHeroes: SORO saves Itsuki from an imminent KO by popping up out of nowhere and using Impact Slider on the El Dagan ready to take Itsuki out.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Like Itsuki, [[spoiler:she appears to lose her Photon powers after the final battle, but this apparently didn't stick as she dons her avatar's form again when Earth is invaded by Shiva's forces.]]
* CallBack: Her lone power as [[spoiler:a Denizen of Apprentice is to summon a giant apparition of SORO, her old avatar, with a RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver paint job.]]
* CanNotSpitItOut: When Itsuki begins neglecting his ''[=PSO2=]'' reports, Rina approaches him in the middle of a council meeting in an attempt to confront him about his claims that he didn't play despite being logged into the game... then chickens out immediately, as she has NoSocialSkills.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Subdued. While she and Itsuki aren't officially an item, she gets very annoyed when she thinks Itsuki prefers Aika's company.
* CrossPlayer: Rina's avatar in ''[=PSO2=]'' is the masculine and talkative [=RAcast=], SORO.
* DamselInDistress: Twice, in fact. [[spoiler:She first ends up being captured by the Darkers to be the new vessel for [[BigBad Dark Falz]], then later needs saving when Margaretta's bungle causes her to show up in Omega as a Denizen of Apprentice.]]
* DarkActionGirl: [[spoiler:Not by choice.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Rina is ''very'' popular with the boys and girls alike.
* ForgettableCharacter: Rina was this when she was a child; it's part of why she has NoSocialSkills and doesn't like conversing with other people.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: [[spoiler:Itsuki and Rina met as children, which also factors into why Rina decides to connect with Itsuki many years later in high school. Itsuki doesn't remember this interaction or Rina as a child, so when they first met at Seiga, he naturally assumed that her knowing him was the StudentCouncilPresident doing her thing.]]
* FriendlessBackground: Due to a combination of having NoSocialSkills and not meeting people often, she doesn't have many friends and is adverse to communicating with others.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: See Irony below.
* {{Irony}}: She may play the [=RAcast=] SORO, but in real life, she's a terrible shot.
* LargeHam: SORO is very showy.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:She loses her memory of what she did in Omega after the player sends her back to Earth. However, she makes contact with the ARKS Ship after the debacle, upon which she gets a very strong feeling of "doing something really embarrassing".]]
* MasterOfAll: She's good at ''everything.'' [[NoSocialSkills Except people.]]
* MistakenForProfound: Inverted; SORO likes to talk like this. Itsuki isn't buying it.
* NoSocialSkills: Even Rina admits that she sucks at communicating with other people. SORO is alternatively known as "Mr. Aloof" or "Aloof" because he has trouble with other players.
* PantyShot: [[spoiler:RINA]] gets a very gratuitous camera angle when confronting Itsuki in Episode 5.
* PinkIsFeminine: Rina's dorm room has a lot of pink wallpaper.
* PunnyName: [[JapaneseRanguage SORO]] is renowned as the "[[RedBaron Lone Warrior]]" because he's a solo player.
* SempaiKohai: A lot of other students refer to her as "senpai".
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: She has a rather... enthusiastic reaction to Kid implying that she and Itsuki are together.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: As [[spoiler:RINA]].
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Gains hers in Episode 10, only to be captured by the Darkers shortly after.]]
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: In the next-episode preview for Episode 3, Quna jokingly asks if SORO is male, to which he vehemently confirms despite the fact that Quna's kidding around.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: In Episode 1, she states that her favorite food is ankimo, or monkfish liver.
* TronLines: SORO's body sports lots of red lines.
* WeaponOfChoice: As he has recently changed class to Ranger, SORO uses Ranger weapons, but prefers a Launcher most of the time.
** [[spoiler:RINA wields Fray Fiora, a Twin Machineguns/Assault Rifle hybrid.]]

!!Aika Suzuki
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MaoIchimichi

A mysterious transfer student who becomes a student of Seiga Academy. She claims to be ARKS, and often draws parallels with ''Phantasy Star Online 2'' terminology. While attractive and popular with her classmates, she is relatively naive of the world surrounding her and would much rather [[StalkerWithoutACrush follow Itsuki pretty much everywhere]] for some odd reason. When Rina catches wind of her mastery of ''[=PSO2=]'', she appoints Aika the position of "special officer" of the student council, whose sole job is to advise Itsuki on writing his reports.

In ''[=PSO2=]'', she is also a veteran, as SORO is. She has already maxed out all currently existing Tech classes, including Force, Techer, and Bouncer, as well as having completed every available ARKS Quest and Extreme Quest. Much like Itsuki, she bears a striking resemblance to her avatar. [[spoiler:In reality, she is actually a Newman ARKS member who has been sent to Earth on a mission. She works under the Council of Six via the employ of Casra and Quna.]]
----
* AffectionateNickname:
** Marika, Riko, and Yurika bestow upon her the nickname of "Aiai", using the first character of her first name. Of course, this being SEGA, this also [[ShoutOut brings to mind]] [[VideoGame/SuperMonkeyBall a certain ball-rolling monkey.]]
** Thanks to her giving Kouta a Monomate drink during the ARKS Fan Festa, Kouta now refers to her as "Monomate Girl" when he sees Aika's avatar, due to not knowing that it's actually Aika.
* BadassAdorable: Her Rappy Pet, which manages to kick major Darker ass while still shouting "kyu!" and being totally adorable. Its first onscreen kill involves tackling headfirst into an El Ahda and ''pulverizing it'' by ''smashing it into the ground.''
* TheComicallySerious: She treats everything with complete and utter seriousness. When told that she'll be the "main attack force" of Seiga Academy's maid cafe, she immediately begins discussing actual military formations to her peers' confusion.
* CoolShades: Her character sports a wraparound visor that obscures her eyes.
* DefrostingIceQueen: [[spoiler:She begins warming up to Itsuki once he officially becomes integrated into ARKS.]]
* DemotedToExtra: Her role in the game proper. Her presence primarily serves to link the events of the anime and the game by giving Matoi an excuse to get PutOnABus, and it's later revealed that [[spoiler:she was working with the Earth Guides, with Enga as her contact.]]
* DetectEvil: [[spoiler:As an ARKS, she passively possesses the ability to sense the presence of Darkers.]]
* ExactWords: Abused in Episode 7. Itsuki confronts her that she was in the game when Mika was abducted, for her to say "She was playing no games last night." [[spoiler: For Aika, ''[=PSO2=]'' is not a game, it's her real job.]]
* FirstNameBasis: [[spoiler:At the end of Episode 9, Aika tells Itsuki to only call her by her first name, signifying their newfound friendship.]]
* ForeignExchangeStudent: While no exchange student, she claims to be returning to Japan after having lived overseas with her parents for years. This is reinforced with her poor handle on cultural, social, and functional basics, and is much more likely to refer back to ''[=PSO2=]'' than anything else. [[spoiler:Of course, there is the fact that her being from overseas is a blatant cover story for actually being ARKS.]]
* GodivaHair: In Episode 6, this is used to cover her breasts when she abruptly stands up in the nude while in a public hot spring.
* HoldTheLine: [[spoiler:Despite being an ARKS member first and foremost, she is the first ARKS already on the ground when Earth is invaded by the Luminmechs, and is seen alongside Rina helping the Earth Guides and Mother Cluster prevent Shiva's forces from wrecking Tokyo.]]
* ImportantHaircut: [[spoiler:In the final episode, when she returns to Earth, her pigtails become two-toned, becoming violet near the ends.]]
* ImprobableAimingSkills: In Episode 5, she is shown to be able to throw underhand full court shots in basketball and ''never miss.''
* ItemGet: Says this when a child named Asuka gives her some candies.
* JumpPhysics: Aika is capable of really unrealistic jumps, as demonstrated in Episode 5, where she jumps off a bench and grabs a balloon two stories high, then lands unharmed. [[spoiler:She later performs the same maneuver in-game when saving a Lillipan, which is how Itsuki recognizes her.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Like Rina and Yucreta, she loses her memory of what she did in Omega after the player sends her home, although she likewise gets a pretty unpleasant feeling when told of what happened.]]
* PhenotypeStereotype: Aika sports long, blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Naturally, she's also the NewTransferStudent who claims to be from overseas.
* MarriedToTheJob: Towards the middle of the series, she begins taking a genuine interest in local activities and friends, but she's too dedicated to [[spoiler:ARKS]] to spend her time with them.
* MysteriousWaif: Even her friends remark that she gives off mysterious vibes.
* NewTransferStudent: Transfers into Seiga at the beginning of Episode 2. [[spoiler: Her poor social skills, knowledge of modern technology and habit of using in-game terms, as well as her encyclopedic knowledge of ARKS, suggest she's a transfer student... from the Oracle colony!]]
* NoSocialSkills: She's incredibly distant from other people, not that it matters to most of them.
* NothingIsScarier: Her dorm room gives off this effect; it has no decorations or anything, the only thing of note being the dismantled TV lying on the floor. It can be pretty creepy at night.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: [[spoiler:Her outfit as a Denizen of Apprentice. Also applies to her Rappy Pet, which was rebranded as "Dark Rappy" in this state.]]
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Her character is accompanied by a Rappy Pet. [[spoiler: Which happens to also be her summon in-game...]]
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:During the final episode, she uses Flowenberk to seal Apprentice's essence within herself. This doesn't have any adverse affects besides dyeing the tips of her braids purple... at first, until the essence threatens to overwhelm her, forcing Matoi to intervene and attempt to purify Aika herself. When that doesn't work, [[VillainousRescue the Profound Darkness shows up to help]] and takes the essence away.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Gender distinctions apparently mean nothing to her as far as cultural norms are concerned. In Episode 6, she walks into the men's side of the outdoor hot spring in the nude and plops down right in front of Itsuki without giving half a damn that she's both in the wrong side of the hot spring and she's right in front of Itsuki. She also does not care when [[spoiler:she detects a Darker]] and stands up, still naked, and still in front of Itsuki.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: During her first few appearances, she's really intent on trailing Itsuki, even into his dorm and into ''the men's bathroom''. She drops this later on.
* SummonMagic: At the time of the plot, she is classed as a Summoner, which specializes in this category.
* SuperPoweredAlterEgo: [[spoiler:Her appearance inside ''[=PSO2=]'' can also manifest in the real world for the purpose of repelling Darkers, turning it into a form of this. It's flipped, though; her human appearance is her ''alter-ego'', her Newman appearance is her real form.]]
* UnusableEnemyEquipment: A variant; her Rappy Pet is not a real Pet for the Summoner class in-game. [[spoiler: It's one of the clues she might not be from around here.]] [[{{Defictionalization}} The EPISODE 4 Deluxe Package changed that.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Averted with both herself and her ''[=PSO2=]'' character; they both have blonde hair, which is a common go-to hair color for foreign characters.
* WeaponOfChoice: Tact-NT, a type of Baton. In-game, it boosts the effectiveness of Resta.
* WhenSheSmiles: Aika rarely smiles, but when she does, Rina [[CutenessOverload is swept up in a fit of]] [[BuffySpeak adorable-ness]].

[[folder:Seiga Academy]]

!!Kouta Kayano
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NobunagaShimazaki

One of Itsuki's long-time pals, and an avid player of ''Phantasy Star Online 2'' who has tried to get Itsuki into the game at least once before. When Itsuki is appointed to student council vice president, Kouta helps him start out on the right foot with a hand-drawn guide. He is a fan of roleplay; when playing ''[=PSO2=]'', he often acts in-character, much to the amusement of Itsuki and pals.

In ''[=PSO2=]'', his avatar is '''Koa''', a Deuman Bouncer who has a penchant for theatrics. Despite his rather enthusiastic approach to the game, his skills are a force to be reckoned with.

* HornedHumanoid: Being a Deuman, Koa is this. He has one horn, while female Deuman have two.
* LargeHam: Large enough to give even SORO pause.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Koa sports a red one that [[AntiGravityClothing defies gravity.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Koa has white hair.
* WeaponOfChoice: Dual Blades.

!!Mika Konoe
->'''Voiced by:''' Rie Murakawa

One of the three closest members to Rina in the student council. She has a tendency to come off as cold to everyone else, but she's very warm to Izumi, her senior and head of the council. Since Itsuki joined the council, she is the least amicable member towards him, [[spoiler:mainly because she's jealous of him for taking Rina from her.]]

In ''[=PSO2=]'', her avatar is '''Lilika''', a Hunter/Fighter that sports a unique pink Lillipan costume.

* ClingyJealousGirl: She's this for [[spoiler:[[HomoeroticSubtext Rina]]]]. It's why she's resented Itsuki since he joined the student council.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:She is kidnapped by Darkers in Episode 7, forcing Itsuki, RINA, and Aika to save her and bring her back to Earth. Thankfully, Quna gets in on the action and helps out.]]
* WeaponOfChoice: Ideal Scissors, a class of InfinityMinusOneSword Wired Lances.

!!Yutaka Sasaki/Musashi
->'''Voiced by:''' Aki Kanada (Yutaka), Creator/HiroyukiYoshino (Musashi)

The meek member of the student council who is often assigned to the dirty work. While shy, he's a hard worker, and returns the care others show for him. When Itsuki is assigned to handle a variety of odd jobs, Yutaka steps in and offers a helping hand.

In [=PSO2=], his avatar is '''Musashi''', a [=FOnewm=] and {{Jerkass}} {{Troll}} who has lately been plaguing parties with his disrespectful behavior.

* ADarkerMe: Musashi is this to Yutaka.
* AffectionateNickname: Itsuki starts calling him Yu-chan in Episode 3. He isn't particularly fond of it.
* ApologizesALot: Does this with frequency. Itsuki tells him not to worry about it.
* CoolShades: Musashi sports futuristic sunglasses.
* CryCute: When Itsuki reconciles with him in his room and tells him that the real Yutaka is a NiceGuy.
* ExtremeDoormat: He does what people tells him to because he's afraid of being disliked. However, this also contributes to his willingness to troll people in ''[=PSO2=]'', because he feels like he would be disliked if he acted that way in real life.
* {{Fanboy}}: For SEGA.
* {{Jerkass}}: Musashi doesn't like to help his teammates and looks down on noobs. He joins Itsuki, SORO, and Koa on an expedition to the Volcanoes, refuses to help them and insults them all the way through, then has the gall to send them a friend request. Kouta is incensed enough to send him to the blacklist.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: In Episode 6, he is invited to join in a friendly ping-pong match. When he wins, he aggressively insults his opponent much like how he would online. When he gets called out on it, he backpedals immediately.
* {{Troll}}: Musashi is referred to as such by other players.
* TookALevelInKindness: Musashi gets ''slightly'' better after Itsuki helps Yutaka understand that it's not okay to troll other players. He still walks over his teammates, but at least he's actually helping.
* WeaponOfChoice: Rods.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Characters]]

!!Yumiko
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KikukoInoue

A Braver/Human who often parties alongside Koa. She is proficient with the Bullet Bow, a ranged weapon that specializes in raw strength over frequency, compared to the likes of Assault Rifles and Twin Machineguns. Her victimization by the online {{Troll}} "Musashi" has kept her on her guard.

In the real world, "Yumiko" is a young housewife. She is married to "Last Samurai", and the two run a hot spring. While happily married, she is often in charge of keeping Last Samurai in line, and can be rather dangerous when provoked.

* EyepatchOfPower: Her avatar sports a black eyepatch.
* WeaponOfChoice: Bullet Bows.

!!Last Samurai
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi

A Braver/Human who often parties alongside Koa. He is proficient with the Katana, a small blade that combines the best of style, strength, and speed. His victimization by the online {{Troll}} "Musashi" has kept him on his guard.

In the real world, "Last Samurai" is a young father of a baby boy. He is married to "Yumiko" and is the proud owner of a public hot spring. He has a penchant for being distracted by the petty things in life, like ''[=PSO2=]'' and cute maids, although Yumiko keeps him in check.

* EverythingsBetterWithSamurai: His character in-game looks, fights, and talks like he jumped out of an Creator/AkiraKurosawa film.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His WeaponOfChoice.

!!Silva
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EmiNitta

A [=RAcaseal=] who is often seen partying with Koa. She's oftentimes the quietest of the group and rarely speaks up. She specializes in Assault Rifles, a weapon that is capable of fulfilling many roles with its multitude of gun-based attacks.

In the real world, "Silva" is an independent pre-teen girl. Unlike her online persona, she is rather outgoing, and sometimes a little nosy.

* GenkiGirl: She's has energy to spare in the real world.
* RobotGirl: She's a CAST, after all.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: While her official bio gives her name as "Silva", the official English subbed broadcast insists that her name is spelled "Silver".
* TheStoic: Silva has one expression and one expression only. This probably falls into her interpretation of what a CAST is typically like, since in the real world, she's a rather energetic kid.
* WeaponOfChoice: Astral Riser-NT, a special Assault Rifle exclusive to her.

!!Kid
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazuhikoInoue

A Fighter[=/=]CAST who is often seen partying with Koa. He wields the Knuckles, a weapon with minimal range, but maximum hitting power.

In the real world, "Kid" is a nice elderly man. He almost never shows signs of anger, and is incredibly affable.

* CoolOldGuy: He's a kindly old man who passes time playing video games.
* HighClassGlass: He sports a monocle. He doesn't mess with it, however.
* WeaponOfChoice: God Hand-NT, a pair of Knuckles that only he wields.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:[=NPCs=]]]
Short for "Non Player Characters", these are the other characters that populate the game world besides the players themselves. They serve as the basis for Client Orders, the game's resident questing system. Thanks to advancements in AI programming and functionality, [=NPCs=] in ''[=PSO2=]'' are more lifelike than in any other MMORPG, capable of dynamic speech and interactivity between each other and players. [[spoiler:They are actually not at all [=NPCs=], but the very same characters from ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline2'' that the PlayerCharacter interacts with in-game. Realizing that intruders are among them, the ARKS slowly begin to take action against the invaders from another dimension, the "mysterious ARKS".]]

!!Quna

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EriKitamura

An IdolSinger who garners crowds and attention with her grand performances on the ARKS stage. Underneath her poppy exterior belies a past of sadness and loss. [[spoiler:She is #0 of the Council of Six and a member of the Death Squad. When she is fighting, she transforms into the calm and collected Zelsius Quna.]]

* BladeSpam: [[spoiler:While invisible, her attacks manifest as a storm of slashes impacting whatever she's attacking, prior to the actual damage taking effect.]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: She makes a rather insignificant appearance in Episode 2, performing a Live Stage concert of "Our Fighting". [[spoiler:She is officially introduced in Episode 7 when she pulls a BigDamnHeroes for Aika and their connection is revealed.]]
* IdolSinger: ''[=PSO2=]'''s prominent one. In Episode 2, SORO and Itsuki attend her performance of ''Our Fighting'' on the Shop Area Stage.
** Notably, this uses the same dialogue, elevated stage, and first song as an actual concert in the most recent build.
* {{Invisibility}}: [[spoiler:Zelsius]] Quna can become invisible to conceal herself from others. [[spoiler:It doesn't work on the PlayerCharacter, however.]] This comes at the cost of [[CastFromLifespan slowly killing her.]] [[spoiler:She takes advantage of this ability in Episode 7 to get the one-up on Darkers when Aika is assaulted and can't fight back.]]
* MulticoloredHair: Sports orange-brown to blue ombre twintails.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The official subbed broadcast insists that her name is spelled "Kuna", even though the game states otherwise in both the official end credits and unofficial fan translation. This is most likely due to the fact that TMS only romanized the name from クーナ without getting the official spelling.
* WeaponOfChoice: [[spoiler:Twin Daggers.]]

!!Zeno

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyoheiKimura

A [=HUmar=] NPC. While a bit shortsighted when it comes to seeing the bigger picture, his heart always leads him towards the right direction. He is pals with his childhood friend, Echo, with whom he has [[VitriolicBestBuds an interesting relationship with.]] [[spoiler:He is the fourth member of the Council of Six.]]

* BadassCape: His Cry Savior has one, appropriately accompanying [[spoiler:his position as one of the Council of Six.]]
* ChasteHero: He clearly doesn't understand Echo's affections for him.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Cry Savior sports a large shoulder pad on the left, and a big cape on the right.
* PowerLimiter: While a Hunter, he's actually more suited to be a Ranger, but simply chooses not to be one.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Zeno's wear, Cry Savior, sports one. Befitting of [[spoiler:a member of the Council of Six.]]
* RedIsHeroic: He's wearing it all over him.
* WeaponOfChoice: [[spoiler:The Genesis Weapon, Nanaki, which is a Gunslash.]]

!!Echo

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YokoHikasa

A [=FOnewearl=] NPC. She has a bad habit of being self-deprecating and questions her self-worth many times, but she is kind of heart. Despite her rocky relationship with Zeno, she truly cares for him. She wishes to become stronger so that she may one day no longer be a burden to her allies.

* ActionGirl: Tries hard to be one.
* MagicKnight: She also subclasses Hunter, making her this with a Gunslash.
* RedIsHeroic: Takes after Zeno in this department, since she looks up to him.
* TrainingFromHell: Likes doing this a lot.
* WeaponOfChoice: Rods.

!!Matoi

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SatomiSato

A [=FOmarl=] NPC. [[spoiler:She is Klariskrays II, the first successor to Klariskrays, one of the Three Heroes who sealed away Dark Falz Elder over 40 years ago. Presumed dead after a Darker assault on an ARKS ship in AP 231, she turned up ten years in the future, having lost her memories as a result of photonic purification. She was then found by the PlayerCharacter, and began a road to recovery that ultimately lead to the restoration of her powers. At the end of ''EPISODE 3'', she [[TakingTheBullet took a bullet]] for the PlayerCharacter and became the Profound Darkness, but was saved at the last moment by [Persona], who relieved her of the corrupted photons within her system. She now works as a Guardian, performing auxiliary missions for ARKS while the PlayerCharacter is in stasis.]]

* AbsoluteCleavage: Her outfit has an open jacket that shows off her bra underneath.
* AnimeHair: Her hairstyle appears to be twin looped ponytails that resemble a bow and fall to her waist. Try recreating ''that.''
* BigDamnHeroes: Pulls this at least twice.
* CombatStilettos: She sports extremely tall heels that increase her height by several centimeters.
* DemotedToExtra: Formerly the heroine. Her role in the anime is much, much smaller.
* GirlishPigtails: Prominently sports them.
* LightEmUp: She's a fan of Grants Technics.
* WeaponOfChoice: The Clarissa III, a replacement for the Clarissa II crafted by the UltimateBlacksmith Jig.
* TheWorfEffect: [[spoiler:When Itsuki and Aika are pinned down by a squadron of boosted Predicahdas and Dicahdas, Matoi's BigDamnHeroes moment involves using Ilgrants to wipe down the entire crowd in one go.]]

!!Patty & Tiea

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanaAsumi (Patty)[=/=]Creator/YukaIguchi (Tiea)

A pair of Newman twin "informants" who spend their time gathering and distributing valuable information, although they spend much of their time on the "gathering" end of the scale. They host their own self-coined "Patty & Tiea Show", where they get together (as well as a guest on occasion) and meet up with other characters or players and extract information from them. Their "distributing" information end appears limited to one customer, the legendary ARKS hero, [[spoiler:the PlayerCharacter.]]

* ContinuityNod: They seem to only have one actual customer with which they interact with. Patty {{Hand Wave}}s this by claiming that they have an "exclusive contract" with that person. [[spoiler:Although since said customer is in the midst of [[HumanPopsicle Cold Sleep]], they don't really have much to do at the moment.]]
* HalfIdenticalTwins: Despite sharing an identical facial structure, they're notably different everywhere else, including height, hairstyle, and bust. The latter is lampshaded with the Episode 5 outro card, which shows Tiea expressing her ACupAngst toward her bustier twin.

!!Casra (#3)

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiroshiKamiya

A [=FOnewm=] NPC. The third of the Council of Six, and one of the Three Heroes. Since the defeat of [[spoiler:the Profound Darkness]], he has been placed in charge of a newly-formed Intelligence Division of ARKS alongside Quna. [[spoiler:He is in charge of Aika's mission to Earth, working behind the scenes to prevent the revival of Dark Falz Apprentice.]]

* DeathDealer: He's this, since he can use a Talis.
* EarlyBirdCameo: [[spoiler:He makes his first onscreen appearance toward the end of Episode 8, but Itsuki meets him for the first time in Episode 9.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: As usual. Fans have noted that [[TookALevelInJerkass he's a little more Jerkass than in his in-game depiction.]]
* MissionControl: [[spoiler:For Aika.]]
* MrExposition: [[spoiler:He info dumps a lot of background on Itsuki at the start of Episode 9.]]
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: [[spoiler:He can still call Aika no matter where she is, be it on another planet or on Earth.]]
* WeaponOfChoice: Gunslashes. When he needs to get serious, he breaks out the Genesis Weapon, Flowenberk, which is a Talis.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Darkers (Spoilers!)]]
!!Dark Falz Apprentice

A Dark Falz who once terrorized the ARKS in AP 231, and the disciple of Dark Falz Elder. She is one of the five known Dark Falz alongside Elder, Loser, Double, and Persona, and reigns over the insectoid Darkers. The weakened seal on Apprentice on Planet Lillipa has caused her influence to spread, allowing her to send Darkers to Earth with the intention of seeking a Photon-sensitive host to possess to regain form and threaten the Earth dimension.

* DarkActionGirl: Every incarnation of Apprentice has been one, and this one is no exception, since her host this time is Rina.
* FinalBoss: Of the show.
* FrickinLaserBeams: When Apprentice Gia goes OneWingedAngel, she gains these in addition to her WaveMotionGun.
* KillItWithFire: She has a weakness to the Fire element. Inflicting Burn disables her temporarily.
* OneWingedAngel: Combines with her main body that was sealed within the depths of Lillipa by Mining Bases, which allows the body to transform and gain flight, as well as several new attacks.
* WaveMotionGun: It hides an organ inside its body that extends out to fire one of these. Highly destructive, it's been known to [[OneHitKill pulverize any ARKS, AIS, or Mining Base in a single blow.]] The only thing that can compete is a WaveMotionGun specially designed by ARKS to counter Apprentice.
* WombLevel: The interior of Apprentice Gia's body, which Itsuki winds up travelling into to save Rina.
* TheWorfEffect: The first thing she does once she combines with her main body is to emerge from the underground and down an entire squadron of AIS in one go.

[[folder:Main Characters]]

!!Itsuki Tachibana/Itsuki
[[quoteright:157:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuki.PNG]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ShoutaAoi

* NiceGuy
* ShirtlessScene: In episode 6.

* DarkActionGirl: [[spoiler:Not by choice.]]
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: See Irony below.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: As [[spoiler:RINA]].

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MaoIchimichi

----
* AffectionateNickname:

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Seiga Academy]]

!!Kouta Kayano
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NobunagaShimazaki

* WeaponOfChoice: Dual Blades.

!!Mika Konoe
->'''Voiced by:''' Rie Murakawa

* {{Fanboy}}: For SEGA.
* WeaponOfChoice: Rods.

[[folder:Other Characters]]

!!Yumiko
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KikukoInoue

* WeaponOfChoice: Bullet Bows.

!!Last Samurai
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi

* KatanasAreJustBetter: His WeaponOfChoice.

!!Silva
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EmiNitta

* RobotGirl: She's a CAST, after all.

!!Kid
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazuhikoInoue

!!Quna

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EriKitamura

* WeaponOfChoice: [[spoiler:Twin Daggers.]]

!!Zeno

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyoheiKimura

!!Echo

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YokoHikasa

* WeaponOfChoice: Rods.

!!Matoi

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SatomiSato

* GirlishPigtails: Prominently sports them.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanaAsumi (Patty)[=/=]Creator/YukaIguchi (Tiea)

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiroshiKamiya

* MissionControl: [[spoiler:For Aika.]]

* FinalBoss: Of the show.

The disciple of Dark Falz Elder, a Dark Falz that was sealed away over 40 years ago by the ARKS. Apprentice is known to take a female form; all of her previous incarnations had been female. In the modern day, the primary goal of the Darkers is to locate a suitable host for Apprentice by abducting unsuspecting Earthlings and trapping them in cocoons to complete the process. Aika, Quna, and Casra, discovering this ploy, worked behind the scenes to protect the Earthlings and prevent Apprentice's revival. However, their efforts are cut short when Rina Izumi is kidnapped and transformed into Dark Falz Apprentice.
