* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: After six years of disbandment, Overwatch is reformed by Winston at the end of ''Recall''. The members include Winston, Tracer, [=McCree=], Mercy, Genji, Torbjörn, and Reinhardt, as well as many other yet-to-be-identified agents. However, all Overwatch activity is currently illegal due to the PETRAS Act, so any heroics will make them vigilantes.

* MultinationalTeam: Overwatch recruits talented individuals from all over the world and were even willing to open their ranks to Omnics and sapient non-humans. Its founding members included two Americans, a German, a Swede and an Egyptian. It eventually grew to include a Swiss, an American, a gorilla from the moon, an Englishwoman, a Japanese cyborg, and a Chinese. That's not counting the non-playable characters, who represent even more nationalities.

* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Organization-wide. We don't know what their motives are, but most of their actions seem to point toward [[ForTheEvulz wanting the world to burn or just to plunge it to chaos]] with no discernable motivations, because that's what [[TerroristsWithoutACause terrorists]] do, and what concerns people is what effect they bring to the world, such as the damages their members (Reaper and Widowmaker) do to the world. * TheBadGuyWins: When the story started, Talon has already won; they were uncontested in spreading terror to the world since the Overwatch was dissolved (which was indirectly caused by their actions of sending Widowmaker on that mission that destroyed Ana), they came a long way since being constantly thwarted by Gerard Lacroix (who was only defeated by Talon turning his wife Amelie into Widowmaker and then kill him while sleeping).
* BigBadEnsemble: Talon is one of the two main oppositions of the game, opposed by the Overwatch and its members. The other 'main opposition' is Vishkar Corporation, which has its own goals, but didn't mingle with Talon's operations with Overwatch.

Both engage in horrible, horrible actions, but Vishkar has deluded itself into thinking that it's [[TheNeedsOfTheMany for the greater good]], while Talon has thrown all forms of subtlety out the window and openly indulge in every single evil deed under the sun (and possibly more).

A group of Omnic monks from the mountains of Nepal, they formed after the Omnic Crisis. After many years of mediation on the nature of existence, they came to the realization that, like humans, they possessed the essence of a soul. Sadly, their leader became the target of Talon, and Widowmaker was sent out to assassinate the leader while giving a speech in King's Row -- [[TheBadGuyWins she was successful]]. A troublemaking gang based on Dorado, but saw activities in Hollywood as well. They harbor resentment towards the Mexican government for somehow 'leaving them behind' and retaliated by sowing terrors throughout the area. They're also incredibly racist towards Omnics. One can say that they can be a lesser version of Talon.

They were put on highlight somehow when they attempt to coax a young girl named Alejandra to join in their Omnic-hating spree, but unfortunately ran afoul the vigilante Soldier: 76, who proceeds to single-handedly savage them for their overall crime spree. They only managed to run away safely after [[SadisticChoice tossing a grenade that could have killed Alejandra, forcing Soldier: 76 to abandon pursuit to protect her.]]

The cinematic trailer has a museum with a large exhibit on Overwatch that speaks kindly of them, and Chris (the little kid who could not have been around in Overwatch's heyday) not only knows some of Overwatch's agents by name but regards them as superheroes. Overwatch was funded primarily to fight threats, ''not'' to heal the conflict and the destruction it causes, and while it achieved many advancements in science and discovery, at its core, Overwatch (and in particular Blackwatch) still tried to impose MightMakesRight, using assassination, coercion and torture to get the job done.

[[folder:Shambali]]
A group of Omnic monks from the mountains of Nepal, they formed after the Omnic Crisis. After many years of mediation on the nature of existence, they came to the realization that, like humans, they possessed the essence of a soul. Under the lead of Tekhartha Mondatta, they sought to heal the wounds between humans and Omnics caused by the Crisis through peaceful methods. Sadly, their leader became the target of Talon, and Widowmaker was sent out to assassinate the leader while giving a speech in King's Row -- [[TheBadGuyWins she was successful]]. What has become of the Shambali since then remains a mystery. Tekhartha Zenyatta was once a member of the group..

[[folder: Overwatch]]
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/overwatch_logo.jpg]]

->''"Conflict. As the world teetered on the brink of anarchy, a new hope arose. An elite international taskforce charged with ending the war, and restoring liberty to all nations. Overwatch. Soldiers. Scientists. Adventurers. Oddities. Guardians who secured global peace for a generation. Under its steadfast protection, the world recovered. And today, though its watch has ended, its soaring ideals of freedom and equality will never be forgotten."''

Imagine [[Film/TheAvengers2012 The Avengers]] as a UN taskforce - with all the superscience, genius, mutations, and tech that implies - and you're probably pretty close to Overwatch at its prime. Founded to deal with the [[RobotWar Omnic Crisis]], Overwatch was an organization dedicated to global peacekeeping, employing a wide array of "Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, [and] oddities" with advanced technology to this end.

In practice, it [[FallenHero didn't quite work out.]] Overwatch crumbled into disrepair with [[TheResenter the actions of Gabriel Reyes, who resented not being made commander of Overwatch.]] Rumors of [[NoSuchAgency black ops agencies involved with kidnapping and murder]] circulated. There were stories of assassination, coercion, kidnapping, torture, and worse. Governments called on the UN to shut down the "aggressive and repeated violations of many countries' sovereignty." Finally, after a catastrophic battle between Gabriel Reyes and Commander Jack Morrison, the organization was disbanded, public opinion having rendered it beyond saving in the eyes of many.

While its agents are still active in some form - as wandering peacekeepers, adventurers, or mercenaries - the organization still shapes the Overwatch world to this day.
-----
* BlueIsHeroic: The standard uniform for Overwatch was primarily made up of blue and white, as demonstrated by Jack, Ana, and Reyes.
* BreakingTheFellowship: Once a small, tight-knit legendary strike team, it grew into a global organization that slowly grew unsteady with internal corruption. The fallout between Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, caused by years of Gabriel letting his own feelings and resentment fester, was the final act of this trope. Before that, Ana faked her death and went into seclusion/retirement, while Reinhardt was forced to retire.
* BrokenPedestal: Once globally hailed as a symbol of peace and hope. Just the mere sight of an Overwatch agent on the battle field boosted morale significantly. But after rumors of its darker deeds came out and threats kept popping out despite its efforts, its reputation sunk to an all-time low. Its destruction during the fight between Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes sealed the deal. It is now reviled as a group of criminals and villains.
* DirtyBusiness: Some of Overwatch's prominent agents like Ana came to regret their more sinister actions.
* FatalFlaw:
** If Junkrat is to be believed, Overwatch's idealism caused its agents to ignore problems outside of the wars it was designed to stop and ultimately caused its downfall into disgrace. While it's easy to write off Junkrat's perspective because he's not the sanest person, [[DumbassHasAPoint this is eerily perceptive, as it's all but stated that's exactly what happened with Jack Morrison/Soldier 76]].
** Alternatively, if ''Mercy'' is to be believed, the fall of Overwatch was inevitable due to its militaristic nature.
* FallenHero: The organization itself - once hailed as heroes and defenders of freedom, liberty, and justice - as a whole. While they were well-intentioned, the darker things they did behind the scenes turned public opinion against them irrevocably.
* FiveManBand: Before it grew into an international peacekeeping organization, Overwatch started as a five-person strike team:
** Jack Morrison is TheLeader, acting as the "face" while leading and coordinating missions, and also stepping into the fray when necessary.
** Gabriel Reyes is TheLancer, Morrison's best friend who is exceptionally ruthless and not known for his good personality. He is however very skilled and acted as the Strike Commander while on operations, as well as being the one who'd do the DirtyBusiness for the team.
*** When the first Omnic Crisis started out, the position was reversed: Reyes was TheLeader, while Morrison was TheLancer. However, Morrison's charisma and idealism caused him to be designated as the leader with Reyes as his NumberTwo. [[spoiler:Resentment at this eventually caused Reyes to betray the team.]]
** Reinhardt Wilhelm is both TheBigGuy and TheHeart, the hulking knight who soaks up damage for his friends as well as the one who kept the moral fiber of Overwatch. His retirement marks the start of where Overwatch would fall apart due to inner quarrel.
** Torbjörn Lindholm is TheSmartGuy, with a brilliant mind for mechanical devices including his famous turrets. His history of working with Omnics helped the team know the best ways to combat them.
** Ana Amari is TheChick, not only because she's the sole female but also because of her conflicted emotions whenever she has to take a life. She prefers keeping her distance in combat as a sniper.
* ForScience: The "scientists/oddities" part mentioned above wasn't just for show. Overwatch dabbled in cutting-edge technology in at least physics (the Slipstream incident and Winston's chronal accelerator), robotics (Torbjörn's specialty) and biology (Mercy's work). However, Mercy does question Overwatch's ethics; [[DoomedMoralVictor she was just overruled on almost every occasion.]]
* MeaningfulName: Overwatch was built for the purpose of "watching over" the people it protected.
* MultinationalTeam: Overwatch recruits talented individuals from all over the world and were even willing to open their ranks to Omnics and sapient non-humans. It's founding members included two Americans, a German, a Swede and an Egyptian.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: As a general rule, by the time Overwatch was shut down, only the younger members (Winston, Tracer, Mei) still believe whole-heartedly in its idealism and optimism. Of the founding members, only Reinhardt remained idealistic, due to his quixotic worldview. [=McCree=] became more idealistic during his time in Overwatch, but is a KnightInSourArmor, while Mercy became disillusioned with Overwatch's militaristic policies, and Jack... completely lost it and became a complete cynic.

[[folder: Blackwatch]]
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackwatch_logo.jpg]]

Overwatch's sister covert ops branch. Before its disbandment, Blackwatch specialized in taking care of the morally ambiguous things that Overwatch's agents wouldn't do openly in public - business like assassination, torture, and blackmail. The group was led by Gabriel Reyes, a member of the original strike team that would become Overwatch, and his subordinate/protege [=McCree=] was also a member. After Gabriel released the truth of Blackwatch's existence and its deeds in a fit of spiteful jealousy, public opinion turned against Overwatch completely, resulting in the destruction and termination of both groups.

-----

* ColorMotif: Their old logo before they were terminated had blacks and reds, both morally ambiguous colors (if red as the symbol of violence is applied). If [[spoiler:Reaper's]] Origins skin is to go by, then this color scheme applied to their outfits as well.
* DarkIsNotEvil: ZigZagged. Before Overwatch's destruction, all of them were on the side of good, though they participated in things that most Overwatch agents wouldn't do in public (or admit to doing openly). However, it's implied that Blackwatch was really corrupt from the beginning.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain XOF]]. Both of them serve as black ops units and cleanup crews to their main organization [[spoiler: who end up betraying them because of of their leaders' jealousy towards the public face and hero of the main branch]].
* FaceHeelTurn: It's implied in the comic short "Train Hopper" that [[spoiler:several Talon members, including Reaper, were former Blackwatch personnel]].
* NoodleIncident: Apparently Blackwatch did things that even ''[=McCree=]'', a former gang member and weapons dealer, found disgusting.
* NoSuchAgency: Blackwatch's existence was kept in the dark by those who knew about it, including Jack Morrison. This later bit Overwatch in the ass when Gabriel, resentful and starved of the fame he felt he deserved, turned against his teammates and completely destroyed Overwatch's reputation by revealing all of Blackwatch's secrets.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted, at least before Gabriel's betrayal [[spoiler:and stint as Reaper]]. If his Origins skin is to go by, then all former Blackwatch operatives wore the same color scheme.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Talon]]
A NebulousEvilOrganization that serves as the ArchEnemy of Overwatch. They are a terrorist syndicate which dabbles in every single evil act under the sun: kidnapping, trafficking, brainwashing, mass murder, you name it. They have played a heavy part in the downfall of Overwatch. They kidnapped Amelie Lacroix, wife of one of Overwatch's key members Gerard Lacroix, and transformed her into the deadly and psychotic assassin Widowmaker, forcing her to kill her own husband as a sleeper agent. Afterwards, they took several hostages with Widowmaker as the head of the operation, resulting in several casualties, including Overwatch head Ana Amari. After Overwatch finally fell, they were left unchallenged. Their most recent heinous act was killing the Omnic monk Tekharta Mondatta, spreading chaos amongst those still recovering from the Omnic Crisis and further allowing them to manipulate the world as they saw fit. Their current plans seem to be eliminating the remnants of Overwatch that have survived, which is where Reaper's story begins. With many former Overwatch members reuniting, only time will tell where Talon will end up.

They also attempted to assault a certain museum in Numbani containing a powerful glove belonging to 'The Doomfist', spearheaded by both Reaper and Widowmaker. However, this plan was thwarted by both former Overwatch members Tracer and Winston, with the help of two young boys who happened to be at the scene.

-----

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: If you don't join them willingly, there are other options they are more than willing to use. Widowmaker is one such person recruited this way.
* CardCarryingVillain: They don't hide the fact that they're the world's villains and actively making it a worse place. They might as well be saying to Vishkar, "We're evil, but [[AtLeastIAdmitIt we're honest about it.]]"
* CurbStompBattle: In "Recall", a group of Talon soldiers led by Reaper are defeated quickly and easily by Winston. Reaper's [[SurroundedByIdiots response to this]] [[ThisIsGonnaSuck was quite evident]].
* DarkIsEvil: All Talon agents sans Widowmaker wear dark clothes, including Reaper, who apparently works for them. [[spoiler:Some of them are former Blackwatch personnel who turned traitor following Gabriel's FaceHeelTurn]].
* {{Expy}}: A blatantly evil organization that has widespread influence around the world and brainwashes innocent women into doing their bidding? Sounds a lot like [[Franchise/StreetFighter Shadaloo]].
* FaceHeelTurn: It's implied in the comic short "Train Hopper" (featuring [=McCree=]) some members are [[spoiler:former Blackwatch agents who defected alongside their leader, Gabriel]].
* FacelessMooks: Apart from Widowmaker, all Talon agents seen have worn headgear that fully hides the head and face. In the comic short "Legacy", Widowmaker herself used to follow this conduct, but stopped doing that after Ana managed to land a shot that revealed her face.
* {{Foil}}: Surprisingly... ''to the [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Vishkar Corporation]]''. Talon's ColorMotif is blacks and reds, while Vishkar's is white and gold. Both engage in horrible, horrible actions, but Vishkar has deluded itself into thinking that it's [[TheNeedsOfTheMany for the greater good]], while Talon has thrown all forms of subtlety out the window and openly indulge in every single evil deed under the sun (and possibly more).
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Organization-wide. We don't know what their motives are, but most of them seems to point to [[ForTheEvulz wanting the world to burn or just plunge it to chaos]] with no discern motivations, because that's what [[TerroristsWithoutACause terrorists]] do, and what concerns people is what effect they bring to the world, such as the damages their members (Reaper and Widowmaker) do to the world. This may change in the future, however.
* GenreSavvy: At least one Talon in "Recall" has something of a brain. When Winston triggers Primal Rage and grabs the electric cables holding him, one of the mooks wisely drops his rifle unlike his cohort who is whipped around by the gorilla for still holding onto his weapon.
* KickTheDog: The incident where they turned Amelie Lacroix into Widowmaker just ''oozes'' this trope. In the animated short "Alive", they order the assassination of Mondatta which turns King's Row into an anti-Omnic dystopia for no other reason than to be assholes (though FantasticRacism may have been in play).
* LeaveNoSurvivors: In the comic short "Train Hopper", a group of Talon soldiers are given this objective by their superior during a robbery on a train that [=McCree=] happened to be on. Luckily for the passengers, [=McCree=] was a good enough shot to [[ShootTheHostageTaker ensure no innocent lives were lost]].
* MeaningfulName: Their name comes from a term used to refer to the claw of a bird of prey. It's also a brand name for the toxin ''Brodifacoum'', which is a main ingredient in rodent pesticides. Also a [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast name to be feared]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: In the animated short "Recall", a group of Talon soldiers are seen wearing helmets that include visors which glow red in the dark.
* StunGun: The Talon agents sent after Winston in "Recall" have rifles fitted with electrified cables. The group surround Winston and tether the ape to shock him into submission. Winston was able to use said cables to his advantage by thrashing around anyone still holding onto their rifles.

[[folder: Vishkar Corporation]]

A multinational corporation based in Southern India, Vishkar has some of the most advanced technology in the world of Overwatch, with teleporters, sonic weaponry, and HardLight technology that allows them to rebuild and restructure cities almost instantaneously. Yes, Vishkar is truly a corporation dedicated to creating order in the Overwatch world.

In reality, Vishkar is an amoral MegaCorp dedicated to profiting themselves - and yes, creating order - at all costs. They've gotten up to plenty of shady actions such as sabotage, arson, murder, and imposing near-dictatorial control on the favela residents whose lives they claimed to be improving: enforcing curfews, cracking down on what the company perceived as lawless behavior, and exploiting the populace as a cheap labor force.

-----

* BadSamaritan: The entire company poses as a benevolent force ready to help improve the lives of the poor and disadvantaged. But if you refuse their help, they'll make things look like an accident so you'll be forced to have no say in the matter as they force their "improvements" down your throat.
* BigBadEnsemble: Vishkar has a lot of influence, big enough to rival Overwatch and Talon. They're also sufficient enough to be called one of the BigBad, but only in the spectrum of Lucio and Symmetra. Thus far, Vishkar hasn't interacted with Talon and Overwatch while possessing enough influence and badness to be a BigBad.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Appears benevolent and well-meaning, but really they're just wanting to fill their own pockets in the name of "order". First they kidnap a young Symmetra from her family against her will after she was revealed to be a ChildProdigy, wanting to exploit her talents without considering the emotional impact it might have on Symmetra herself or her family. Then they take over Lúcio's neighborhood and turn it into a police state where they impose strict curfews and exploit the locals as cheap labor. Then in the comic short "A Better World" [[spoiler:they secretly send agents to blow up a favela, killing/injuring several civilians (including a young girl whom Symmetra befriended) and displacing many more in order to force them to accept their "improvements"]]. If their practices were done in real life, it would've received a quick arrest and termination. [[CrapsackWorld just to show how much it's a very chaotic world where honor is mostly ending up being a naive manipulation target.]]
* {{Foil}}: Surprisingly... ''to Talon'', another big organization that is seen an antagonistic and certainly not giving a damn to any other people's voices. Vishkar presents itself with [[LightIsNotGood light and goodness, like a honest corporation, and]] [[WellIntentionedExtremist extremism for the greater good]], but in truth [[{{Hypocrite}} they are very selfish, greedy and shady behind those mask.]] On the other hand, Talon presents itself with [[DarkIsEvil darkness and doom]] and they make it no secret that they're terrorists... and [[CardCarryingVillain they're completely]] [[AtLeastIAdmitIt honest about it.]]
* HardLight: One of their many advanced technologies. It's a primary material used to create entire districts in the blink of an eye.
* HateSink: Gets hit with this trope over time due to hiding their [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocritical]] KnightTemplar attitude behind good promises and shiny technology, especially after Lucio's backstory and the comic short "A Better World" was revealed. It really says something when ''Talon'', an evil terrorist organization that rivals Vishkar in horribleness, is liked more by fans than the latter.
* {{Hypocrite}}: They really never really fulfilled their promises of good deals, and instead makes up more 'labor forces' out of the innocents. This trope is what ultimately [[TheScrappy condemns them in the eyes of fandom, considered even worse or more unlikable than]] [[CardCarryingVillain Talon.]]
* LightIsNotGood: Their main colors seem to be white and gold. Also a very morally ambiguous and corrupt corporation whose practices would've quickly resulted in their immediate arrest and termination if done in real life.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Is on the receiving end of this by Lúcio. He stole one of their technologies to drive them away from the favela they're trying to renovate, [[TheDogBitesBack which he happens to be from]]. Most people outside the company who would otherwise think that stealing is bad would instead side with the thief and think, "Serves Vishkar right for making people suffer."
* KnightTemplar: Many of its employees (Symmetra included) believe their horrible, horrible actions were done for everyone's own good. Fortunately, it's becoming subverted as Symmetra starts to see firsthand how morally corrupt her company is.
* MeaningfulName: Its company name is derived from the Hindi words for "poison" (''vish'') and "tax" (''kar''), giving a hint as to their ill intentions for the world in the name of profit.
* MegaCorp: They have power rivaling, if not eclipsing many governments in the Overwatch world. The fact that they've done all we've seen and haven't yet received their comeuppance should give an idea of the power they possess.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: All of their horrible, horrible actions seen in both Lúcio and Symmetra's backstories, as well as the comic short "A Better World" is accompanied with the justification that it's for everyone's own good, although it's more propaganda than anything else.
* WouldHurtAChild: In "A Better World" [[spoiler:Vishkar agents blow up a favela in order to force its residents into accepting their "improvements". A young girl is injured in the crossfire, but although she survives thanks to Symmetra, her face is irreparably burned and disfigured. Symmetra is [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone horrified]], but everyone brushes it off insisting it's for [[TheNeedsOfTheMany the greater good]]]].

[[folder: The Junkers]]
Junkrat and Roadhog's original faction, a group of cutthroat bandits armed with [[HomemadeInventions weaponry and technology made from scrap]] residing in the irradiated remains of the Australian Outback.

However, there's a tragic backstory behind them as they have their roots in [[YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters a resistance group of disgruntled Australians]] known as the Australian Liberation Front, disappointed in their government for having brokered a peace deal with the Omnics to give them the Australian Outback. This action displaced the human residents, a scattered collection of survivalists, solar farmers, and people who just wanted to be left alone. A civil war ensued, the ALF members fighting to oust the Omnics at every turn, until [[NiceJobBreakingItHero an ALF member blew up the fusion core of the Outback's omnium.]]

The Junkers are what's left of the ALF and scattered Outback residents, eking out a living reclaiming metal and components from the ruins, and surviving in the irradiated waste with ramshackle technology and a bitter hatred for Omnics.

Currently, Junkrat is fleeing from them, as he managed to somehow discover an incredibly valuable secret in the Omnium, the nature of which remains unknown. Whatever it is, the Junkers want it. Badly.

-----

* FallenHero: The original Junkers were displaced, angry Australians who formed the ALF organization to "free" their country from Omnic influence after the government turned their country over to the Omnics. It worked... [[GoneHorriblyRight a little too well]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Nice job turning your country into a toxic wasteland by blowing up Australia's omnium hoping it'll free your homes from Omnic influence, Australians!

[[folder: The Shimada Empire]]

A clan of {{Yakuza}} stationed in Hanamura, Japan. As their name implies, this is the family that Genji and Hanzo were born into, and whose dark actions shaped their destinies. They participate in just about every form of DirtyBusiness you can think of: Smuggling, assassination, illegal trades, etc. The clan had high hopes for both siblings to eventually succeed and run the clan after their father, the head, passed away. While Hanzo was being TheDutifulSon, Genji was a slacker and had no interest in such unsavory business, instead spending his youth pursuing the life of a playboy and overall just having fun.

When Genji and Hanzo's father died, the elders not only named Hanzo the successor, but as his first task, he was ordered to set Genji straight in their way. When Genji refused, it turned into a fatal battle where Hanzo seemingly killed Genji. Grief-stricken with the apparent death of his brother, Hanzo abandoned what would become his inheritance and left the clan in shame.

Without Hanzo as its leader, the Shimada clan was left in chaos. Whilst sending assassins after Hanzo for his betrayal, they were unaware that Genji survived his death and became both a CyberNinja and an Overwatch agent. Having been tasked with disrupting the clan's operations, and being all too happy to oblige, his actions eventually caused the clan's near-total decline into inactivity.

As of today, the Shimada clan is essentially defunct. With very little real power at their disposal, their last and only refuge is their own shrine. Even so, Hanzo still manages to easily defeat and slip past their defenses in order to honor Genji's death once every year. That is, until the events of ''Dragons'', in which the two brothers finally reunite. The clan continues to slowly die, not with a bang, but a whimper. Widowmaker, however, drops comments saying that Talon may have plans in store for them which would allow their power to be restored, but at a steep price.

-----

* AnimalMotifs: Dragons, which are present in Hanzo and Genji. In Asian cultures, dragons are a sign of strength and good fortune, but because the clan is {{Yakuza}}, the Western depiction of dragons as creatures of evil can be applied as well.
* BilingualBonus: The calligraphy in Hanamura (the one which Hanzo kneels in front of in the ''Dragons'' short) spells out a Chinese /Japanese proverb, which literally translates into "(A) dragon's head, (and a) snake's tail", and means "to start with a bang, but end with a whimper". Presumably, it was hung there to remind the Shimada clan to never commit that mistake. Unfortunately, they did make that mistake in forcing Hanzo to kill Genji for refusing to toe the line, and now that there are no official heirs, the clan is dying a slow death.
* DealWithTheDevil: Widowmaker offers Hanzo a way to restore his family's power, hinting at Talon's interest in the Shimada clan, but Hanzo wonders if there's a price to pay in exchange.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Played straight with Genji, who turned against his family after his fateful battle with Hanzo. Downplayed with Hanzo since on some level he regrets his choice to abandon his family.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: The clan is not above recruiting Omnics into their ranks, at least as guards.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: From a powerful criminal empire, to a whimpering shadow desperately clinging onto what it has left.
* {{Ninja}}: What the Shimada clan was before becoming {{Yakuza}}.
* SuccessionCrisis: First Hanzo and Genji's father died, and the clan elders named Hanzo his successor. But they made a mistake in forcing Hanzo to kill Genji, whom Hanzo loved greatly, causing him to leave in shame (though he regrets it to some degree). With both brothers gone, the clan began to decline, a process accelerated by Genji, who actually survived his battle with Hanzo and turned into a cyborg, opposing and interfering with their activities.
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: It's revealed in "Dragons" that only those from the Shimada clan can summon dragon spirits through their tattoos, which both Hanzo and Genji currently have as Ultimates (despite technically not being with their family anymore).
* WhiteSheep: Genji, largely due to being spoiled by his deceased father, leading to disinterest in ruling the clan, and partly because he was disgusted with the family business.
* {{Yakuza}}: They're a criminal clan stationed in Japan. 'Nuff said.

[[folder:Los Muertos Gang]]

-----

* FantasticRacism: These guys think battering up a defenseless and wounded Omnic is a good time.
* MeaningfulName: ''"The Dead"'', somehow implying that being left behind by the government 'killed' and embittered them.
* SadisticChoice: Which managed to save their hides, they should be grateful that Soldier: 76 still has the hero within him or else they would have been dissolved that instant.
* TattooedCrook: All of the gang members have skeleton tattoos all over their bodies. The tattoos are done in a glow-in-the-dark ink. When the lights go out, the various gang members glow in neon colors.

[[folder:MEKA]]
'''M'''oble '''E'''xo-Force of the '''K'''orean '''A'''rmy, or '''MEKA''' is a unit within the South Korean army. It began life during the Omnic Crisis, where a colossal Omnic ravaged their country after emerging from the East China sea. First they used drones as means to combat it, but as the Omnic adapted and each fight would end in a stalemate. As a result, they were forced to use actual pilots who could fight the Omnic and hopefully win. They turned to drafting professional gamers, who possessed the reflexes necessary to pilot the machines, in order to battle the Omnic. As a concession, they allowed the pilots to customize their robot suits and broadcast their battles live. Hana Song, better known as D.Va, is a member of this unit.

----

* AcePilot: Every member, due to their reflexes.
* {{Conscription}}: All members of this program are pro gamers drafted into service.
* CustomUniform: The pilots are allowed to customize their own mech suits, given to them as a concession for their service.
* FunWithAcronyms: Admittedly a bit of a stretch, but it spells out a PunnyName for 'mecha'
* IKnowMortalKombat: They're pro gamers using their skills to pilot mech suits.
* ImprobableAge: Most fighters are very young, being pro gamers. This is shown with D.Va, who is the youngest Hero in the game.
* MiniMecha: The weapons they use.
* PunnyName: It's "mecha", not "em-ee-kay-eh".
* RangedEmergencyWeapon: If their mech is destroyed, they are equipped with a rapid-fire laser pistol with deadly accuracy.
* RealRobotGenre: The mecha are tools of combat, rather than the ultimate means of fighting. This is exemplified with D.Va, who is only as awesome as the other members of ''Overwatch'''s WorldOfBadass that ''don't'' have mechs of their own.
