* AscendedMeme: Yamato is popular for his design, with some gravitating towards the only fanservicey part of it - his breasts being so large they stick out of either side of his haori. This ended up coming full circle when Oda himself responded to a request he received via SBS asking him to draw a personification of Yamato's sideboob, to which he obliged - indicating he is aware and approving of the memetic status of Yamato's chest. He does, however, say in the same SBS that the amount of mail he receives asking him to draw Yamato's sideboob or even topless with his breasts out is almost disturbing.

* BreakoutCharacter: He ranked as the 11th most popular character in the entire series as of the One Piece World Top 100 poll that collected votes globally, and this was before he had even fought with Kaido to any significant degree. Toei Animation took note of this and made a special announcement when revealing his voice actress, and has drawn out his scenes in the anime to draw his expressions more extensively and with greater focus. It was even suggested at a point he would end up offered to join the Straw Hats, which came true.
