A stony mutant originally raised and studied by the government, Rocky was approached as a child by a television producer who wanted him to star in a TV series about a mutant orphan who went to live with a wealthy industrialist. The public loved Rocky and the show was an instant hit, but it wasn't to last. Rocky's powers skyrocketed as a teenager, leading him to accidentally injure his co-star. The media went into a feeding frenzy and rumors sprung up regarding a variety of supposed scandals behind the accident, leading to the show being shut down and Rocky being left all alone in the world. He tried for years to get back into the business, including a long stint in Japan where he guest-starred on talk shows and worked as a game-show stuntman. Desperately searching for a purpose in life, Rocky ultimately decided to put his past behind him, fired his agent, and has taken up doing nightly patrols as a Good Samaritan around Emerald City, helping out with minor emergencies and the like.

->AKA: Veronica Steeley
Veronica was the daughter of Captain Gil Steeley, a retired Navy diver who now worked as a salvage operator and inventor, and his wife Marcia. Their relationship took a heavy hit when Marcia died in a salvage operation and Gil remarried less than a year later. Brad (Veronica's new stepbrother) greatly admired Gil, but his stepfather's constant unfavorable comparisons of Brad to Veronica led to Brad acting out for attention as a teenager, leaving Veronica as the one to bail him out. On one of her rare visits home after graduating, Veronica discovered that Gil's company was struggling financially and that the stress was starting to take it's toll on him. Concerned for his health, Veronica offered to help perfect the cutting edge dive suit design that Gil and Brad had been working on. While she was out on a test dive, Gil learned that the financial backers Brad had brought in were interested in turning the diving suits into a covert ops weapon and that he was planning on turning the designs over to them. Gil forbade it, and in an effort to intimidate him into compliance Brad used the electrical blasters on one of the suits and accidentally gave his stepfather a lethal heart attack. Veronica found her father in his dying moments, and he told her how proud he was of her and made her promise to keep the suit out of the wrong hands. She swore to use the Ultramarine armor to protect others and bring Brad and his stolen suit to justice.
----
* ArchEnemy: The smuggler, pirate, and illegal salvage operator known as Steelhead, who is also the villainous persona of Veronica's stepbrother Brad.
* ComesGreatResponsibility: Veronica tries to life up the the ideals of her late father, who believed that people should use their powers and talents for good.
* PoweredArmor: The Ultramarine Armor, which has lasers, strength boosters, on-board computers, sensor arrays, armor plating reinforced with force fields, net launchers, turbines that work in both air and water, and is environmentally sealed.
* SamusIsAGirl: Very few people in-universe know that Ultramarine is a woman under the armor, since it conceals her body and disguises her voice.
* TrueCompanions: Veronica has a large group of friends, some of whom are her own age as well as some of her dad's old Navy buddies who she's very close to.

->AKA: Victor Prophet
In the 1920s and '30s Doc Prophet, the Man Of Marble, was a famous explorer, adventurer, and crime-fighter, coming from a long line of such men. He eventually went on to found the Vanguard, an organization devoted to preserving knowledge, peace, and the future of humanity. With Doc Prophet's eventual death of old age, the Vanguard found themselves lost without a leader, so they devised "Project: Victor," an effort to clone Doc Prophet and create and heir to his legacy. The project was a success, and the Vanguard when into hiding to raise Victor away from the dark and heroless world they saw around them until the time was right. Once he reach adulthood, Victor chafed under the guidance of his mentors, believing that the Vanguard had become overly cautious. Seeking direction, he sought out a relic in the Vanguard's archives; The Sands of Time. The sands showed Victor confusing images of the Prophet line spanning out from him into both the future and the past. However, it also showed him a threat was coming and the world would need heroes like never before. So that night, Victor left Vanguard and set out to meet his destiny.
----
* ArtifactCollectionAgency: The Vanguard, the organization that created Victor.
* BadassNormal: He's got no powers, instead relying on his blaster pistol, the physique he inherited from his "father," and his Vanguard training. That said...
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: The combination of his heritage and training bring Victor about as close to physical perfection as a normal human can get.
* ClonesArePeopleToo: Victor is treated as a completely distinct person from Doc Prophet, more like his son than anything else. Downplayed in that the Vanguard still created him with the expectation that he would live up to Doc Prophet's legacy.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Victor defected from the Vanguard organization, believing that it had become to secretive and cautious to truly help the world.
* FishOutOfWater: Victor was raised outside mainstream culture, so he can have some odd blind-spots when it comes to modern and American culture.
* RayGun: Victor's primary weapon besides his fists.

->AKA: Matthew [=McDonald=]
Matthew [=McDonald=] had always been lucky. Even the tragedy of his parents' car accident was softened a little by the trust fund they left him and the chance to move to Emerald City. One night fter landing an easy job as a night watchman at one of the local physics labs, Matt heard noise coming from one of the rooms and went to investigate. There, he found a device creating some kind of portal. A voice on the other side said something about a transmission, and Matt was struck by extradimensional energies beaming out of the portal, knocking him out. When he woke up, he discovered that he had the power to open portals and teleport. However Doctor Zed, the device's mysterious creator, cautioned that the energies he manipulated might be dangerous and that he needed special equipment to make sure they wouldn't prove fatal to Matt. Seeing it as a matter of life and death, Matt began stealing the equipment Doctor Zed directed him to, but he began to have his doubts as time went on. Eventually, he got the help of Ultramarine and Xeno, who showed up to try to stop one of his crimes. On returning to the labs, they found that Doctor Zed had disappeared and left only the ruins of a second portal machine in his wake. After they helped make his legal problems disappear, Vortex has since joined up with the Sentinels while he tries to get his life back in order.
----
* ArchEnemy: Professor Zed, as well as whatever Professor Zed brought through his second portal (revealed elsewhere to be Cerebrus Rex) are plotting to reclaim Vortex's powers.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: A leftover from the string of thefts he commited while being manipulated by Professor Zed.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Vortex really does mean well, but he often says things without thinking.
* ThinkingUpPortals: His power, which he can use to travel, blast enemies with environmental hazards, blocking attacks, and even as a platform to hover around on.
* ThrillSeeker: Vortex loves heroism because of the exciting and upredictable situations it gets him into.
* TrappedInVillainy: Originally, since Doctor Zed had convinced him that his powers would kill him if he didn't steal the equipment Zed needed.

Born as the son of Emerald City's foremost corporate raiders, Rex Steyer IV was raised to follow in their footsteps, and eagerly looked forward to increasing the family fortune. The day of the Silver Storm, when his limo was caught in the Storm and he found himself permanently reshaped into a massive gorilla, seemed to put an end to those dreams... at first. In fact, Rex soon found himself enjoying the bestial power of his new body; now he was a real "Apex Predator", both inside the boardroom and outside. He was easily snapped up by the Elysian Academy, who preyed on his ego.

\n\n\n\nOn ->AKA: Malak Krin/Kim Kamada
Malak Krin was a rebel and political disident who joined
the surface resistance of the planet Rulu IV after Grue invaders killed one of her brothers while her other bother, a newly founded private school catering government minister and colaborator, did nothing. Malak was one of the volunteers to test isolation in Grue protoplasm to try to level the playing field against the shapeshifting, telepathic invaders. However, the rebel base where she was located was raided by Grue and government forces before they could learn the full effects of the experiment. All Malak can remember of the raid is the chaos and confusion before passing out for a long, long time. Kim Kamada was a biologist who later found a strace metal cylinder embedded in a minneral deposit in the Pacific Northwest. She had originally planned to turn it over to the children of the social elite, the reality is that Elysian Academy is splinter-campus to the Shadow Academy, making it a training and recruitment center for young super-villains.

authorities, but seemed to put an end hear it calling out to those dreams... at first. In fact, Rex soon found himself enjoying her and touched it, and was met with strang visions of crashing alien ships. Suddenly, unknown parties began flooding her camp with bright light. With their weapons fixed on her, saying that they would take the bestial power cylinder, she ran. One of his their shots ruptured the cylinder, releasing "the Xeno" from it's containment. The creature fought off the attackers, leaving behind a confused Malak Krin and a mortally wounded Kim Kamada. While trying to save her, Malak's unstable body merged with Kim's and she gained her appearance and memories, but not her identity. Since then, Xeno has addopted the life of Kim Kamada, and uses her powers to protect her new body; now he was a real "Apex Predator", both inside the boardroom and outside. He was easily snapped up by the Elysian Academy, who preyed on his ego.home while trying to find out what she can about what happened to her original homeworld.

Added DiffLines:

* AlienAmongUs: Xeno maintains a human civilian identity since many people are mistrustful or hostile towards her given her alien appearance and origin.
* ComesGreatResponsibility: Xeno strongly believes she should use her powers to help others, and is willing to fight to protect her ideals of freedom.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: What Xeno sees her continuation of the original Kim Kimada's life as.
* EyeBeams: A natural power of Malak's species.
* Flight: Xeno can propel herself through the air on her own power. This is not a natural ability, and was likely caused either by the rebels' protoplasm treatment or later Grue experimentation.
* FusionDance: Xeno is the fusion of the alien Malak Krin and the human Kim Kimada, and while she has the memories and can take the appearnce of both, the Malak personality is either completely dominant or the only one present.
* Humanshifting: Xeno can take on the appearance of ther humanoids. Like her flight and intangibility, this is not a natural ability.
* IntangibleMan: Xeno can move out of phase with reality to pass through physical objects. Like her flight and shapeshifting, this ability seems to be the result of experimentation rather than something natural to her species.
* LaResistance: What Malak was a part of against the Grue Unity on her homeworld, which means she might still be a target if she's ever found.
* LiminalBeing: Xeno struggles at times to make sense of her identity, since she is made up of aspects of both Malak Krin and Kim Kamada, but doesn't feel a full emotional attatchment to Kim's memories.
* SuperStrength: A natural power of Malak's species, though not quite to the same degree as Rocky or Princess.
* SuperToughness: Xeno is incredibly resistant to harm and can survive in almost any environment, which is a natural trait of Malak's species.

from China with his parents as a child. Up until the age of 28 years old, he lived a comfortable but unremarkable life. On the surface night of his birthday, a newly founded private school catering giant dragon appeared to him in his dreams and explained that Larry's Uncle Zhi, a notorious local gangster, had passed away and that as Larry was his closest "worthy" relative, Zhi's power and status as the children dragon's earthly representative would pass on to him. * CursedWithAwesome: Apex actually likes his mutation; he's kept all his old smarts (such as they were; his Int is only 2!) and he's picked up a body that is not only massively intimidating, but also incredibly powerful.
* Greed: It's his defining vice, to the point it serves as his driving motivation.

* SuperSenses:

* SuperToughness: He's as durable as he is strong since becoming a gorilla.
* UnstoppableRage: When Apex loses control of his temper, he absolutely flips out, to the point his lack of control when raging is statted as one of his complications.

!!Brimstone
Born in Oregon, the young Sarah Eskin grew up on a ranch, where she developed both a love of horses and a deep, abiding hatred for her old-fashioned, conservative, deeply religious Christian family. In an act of teen rebellion, she got into Satanism... unfortunately for the world, her first Black Mass made contact with the spirit of "Brimstone Jack" Eskin, a fearsome Wild West outlaw -- and her ancestor. Brimstone Jack had made a DealWithTheDevil for demonic powers, and now the only way to free his soul from the agonies of Hell was to persuade one of his descendants to agree to take up the power and the price. Sarah couldn't sign the contract fast enough. After her parents "mysteriously" died, she was sent to relatives in Emerald City. When their first attempt at disciplining her led to another "mysterious" fire devastating their home, they couldn't pass her off to the Elysian Academy fast enough.

* DealWithTheDevil: Agreed to take up Brimstone Jack's place in Hell upon death in exchange for gaining his demonic powers.
* DumbMuscle: Brimstone has a lot of power, but she's not very bright and kind of crazy; she's outright called too happy and deluded with her current lot to realize that the Elysian Academy is using her.
* ImaginationBasedSuperPower: Rather than straightforward blasts of Hellfire, Brimstone shapes it into solid constructs; inspired by her ancestor, she mostly does so by creating a flaming HellishHorse to ride upon for increased mobility and using lariats, six-shooters and scatter-guns made of hellfire to attack.
* LegacyCharacter: Calls herself Brimstone, after her ancestor's nickname.
* PlayingWithFire: Specifically, what Brimstone wields is Hellfire, a demonic flame that can burn souls and is all but impossible to heal.
* SelfMadeOrphan: It's quite obvious that Brimstone was the one who murdered her parents and burned their house to the ground. Mere whim kept her from killing her relatives in turn.
* TheSociopath: She's outright described as sociopathic and cruel, her instabilities only made worse by the demonic taint on her soul.
* Yandere: Brimstone's "love" for Demonwing is explicitly called out as being unhealthy, manipulative and obsessive. Likewise, if she ever felt he'd stopped loving her, she would seek revenge with all of her capacity for crazed cruelty.

!!Demonwing
In a cruel cosmic joke, devout Roman Catholic Adolfo Tapia Ibarra found himself reshaped into a form resembling a Catholic interpretation of the devil by the Silver Storm. Between his family's own fearful withdrawal from his terrifying (to them) new visage and the financial strain of caring for those members of the family who were injured but not transformed during the Storm, the Elysian Academy's offer of a scholarship and a generous stipend that would cover the costs of his relatives seemed a Godsend. When he found himself amongst people who didn't care about his appearance, and even a girl who loved him, he only became more convinced that God was smiling upon him again. He has yet to realize the true nature of the Academy, and when that happens, he will be presented with a hard choice.

* DeflectorShields: The purpose of the Kinetic Deflector project, and one of Kid's main
powers.
* DumbMuscle: Brimstone has EmergentHuman: Still learning a lot of power, but she's not very bright and kind of crazy; she's outright called too happy and deluded with her current lot to realize that about the Elysian Academy is using her.

----
* BigRedDevil: Between the horns, the crimson skin, the "devilish" spade-tipped tail, the fangs, the black, claw-like nails and the leathery wings, Demonwing earns his moniker.
* BlessedWithSuck: Demonwing's transformation has given him a drastic increase in strength, dexterity and agility, flight, ripping claws, the ability to see in the dark, and immunity to many forms of harm, but all at the cost of looking like one of the worst monsters in his faith.
* CaptainErsatz: Of Nightcrawler, being a noble-hearted devout Catholic who, in an incredible irony, is also a mutant who looks like a demon.
* CreepyGood: He may look like a monster, but he's a quiet, shy, polite, good-hearted boy who sincerely believes in his Catholic upbringing. There's still a very good chance that he would reject the Academy once he learned of its evil nature.

!!Ms Scorpion
Daughter of former supervillains Sportsman I and Princess Poison, Melissa Cutler earned her parent's scorn by inheriting no super-powers at all. Although doted upon by her super-strong brother, who tried to carefully warn her against it, Melissa's drive for parental acceptance made her attempt to find a career as a super-villain. Adopting the persona of Ms. Scorpion and feigning inheritance of her mother's toxin-manipulating powers, Melissa earned a place in the Elysian Academy. When the truth came out, she had displayed such talent, skill and drive that the school decided to retain her, judging she would more than warrant her position as leader of the Alpha Group, the most promising young super-villains.
----
* AbusiveParents: Her parents emotionally abused her for being completely devoid of powers.
* BadassNormal: She has no powers at all, and faked that she had them in order to get accepted into the Academy, but her physical prowess, fanatical drive and leadership potential all helped her to earn a legitimate place as leader of the Academy's Alpha Group.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She wields the "Scorpion Sting Whip", a long lash with a hooked blade on the tip soaked in poison.
* MuggleBornOfMages: Both of her parents and her older brother have super powers. Ms. Scorpion has nothing but wits, drive and skill.
* WellDoneSonGuy: A female example, but, her driving motivation is to try and win the love and approval of her parents.

!!Night Terror
Plain and ordinary, nobody really noticed Katherine Ferrin. That would come back to haunt them. Always obsessed with those around her, and fascinated by the process of ferreting out secrets, eventually, Katherine's sheer determination awoke a power inside of herself - the ability to enter the dreams of others. She swiftly grew addicted to using this power, and the trail of ruined lives stemming from those who got on her bad side quickly drew the attention of the Shadow Academy. By this point no longer physically requiring sleep, Katherine eagerly signed up at the prospect of growing ever-more powerful.
----
* FromNobodyToNightmare: From just a nosy little wallflower to a nightmare-spreading dream-fouler who's grown addicted to using her powers.
* MindControl: She can put people to sleep, or force them to stay awake, can inflict nightmares, and can create illusions by summoning nightmares into reality.
* PowerBornOfMadness: Her insanity and her powers have grown hand in hand, and it's hard to separate the two anymore.

!!Winter Wrath
Cold, calculating and goal-orientated, Yu Yin "Raymond" Lee knew that when his mutant powers to create and manipulate ice set in, becoming a super-villain would be far more profitable than becoming a super-hero. So, when the Elysian Academy came sniffing after the young mutant, his answer was already considered. To this ice-hearted young man, training to be a super-powered assassin and thief is no different than any other high-profit business venture schooling.
----
* AnIcePerson: Winter Wrath has the ability to freeze and condense ambient moisture in the air, using it to create ice, as well as project lethally intense cold.
* CompositeCharacter: He has Iceman's appearance and power set, but his villainous morality, opportunistic personality and ruthless pragmatism are all much more like Captain Cold.

!!Marionette (Modern Age)
Raised from birth by Taurus, Jean Braid is the granddaughter of the World War II-era Communist supervillain Alison Geller, aka the first Marionette. Inheriting her grandmother's potent psychic abilities, her upbringing has also left her deeply malleable, and little better than a puppet herself.
----
* Irony: Despite having the power to make others into little more than puppets, Marionette's own resistance to will-dominating attacks or abilities is practically nil, due to having been raised since birth as a brainwashed slave.
* MoreThanMindControl: She has incredibly potent PsychicPowers that let her do everything from subtly manipulate others to outright enslave their minds.

When this world was destroyed by Omega, Centurion's father rocketed him across the dimensional barriers to land on Earth-Prime, where he was found and raised by Tom and Mabel Leeds who named him Mark. Eventually discovering his heritage, and the powers he had gained from travelling through a cosmic storm, Mark Leeds donned the iconic uniform of The Centurion and became Freedom City's most recognisable champion, battling the likes of August Roman and Superior for decades. !!Daedalus

An Ancient Greek inventor, Daedalus was granted immortality by the gods following the death of his son, Icarus. Having lived under many assumed identities, including Isaac Newton, Daedalus has gone onto become a superhero in more recent years, first donning his trademark PoweredArmour during the SilverAge, and never taking it off. A key member of the Freedom League, Daedalus is the heart and soul of the team, though he'd deny it to the end. !!The Raven I
->AKA: Duncan Summers

A costumed detective and gadgeteer who first became active in the SilverAge, The Raven was one of Freedom City's most enduring heroes, and had one of the largest rogues galleries of any of its champions. Left crippled following his final conflict with archfoe Doctor Sin, The Raven retired, married, and had a daughter, only to lose his wife when Sin returned from the dead and tried to claim his granddaughter. !!The Raven II
->AKA: Callie Summers

The daughter of Duncan Summers and Jasmine Sin, Callie remained unaware of her father's legacy until her grandfather, Doctor Sin, attacked her on her sixteenth birthday. Losing her mother and uncovering her father's secret on the same day changed Callie, who tried to take up her dad's mantle, first behind his back, and later with his grudging approval. Villains

!!August Roman

An elder statesman of supervillainy, August Tiberius Roman was a gangster and criminal mastermind who clashed with The Centurion from his first appearance in the GoldenAge until the hero's death in 1993. Convicted once in the 1940s, Roman recieved a pardon from the government, and never saw the inside of a jail again after that. He succeeded in becoming "Emperor of Crime" during the SilverAge, controlling most of the organised crime in Freedom City during the 1950s and 1960s, and becoming the secret backer of many versions of the Crime League. Left unsure of what to do with himself after The Centurion's death, Roman has retired from organised crime to run the Circuit-Maximus, an illegal, underground gladiatorial ring.
----
* AntagonistInMourning: There is an element of this in the description of him after The Centurion died.
* Archenemy: The prime contender for the title of The Centurion's worst enemy, and certainly his longest-running and most persistent foe, with their first clash occuring shortly after The Centurion's debut.
* BadassMoustache: Roman has a classicly evil, yet dignified, pencil thin moustache, that somehow doesn't detract from the aura of authority he exudes.
* BadassNormal: Despite being an unpowered human, and not much of a fighter at that, Roman still managed to vex Earth's greatest hero at every turn, with his brilliant planning and legions of minions.
* TheBigBad: In any story set in Freedom City during the GoldenAge or SilverAge, Roman is the biggest bad in town.
* BrainsEvilBrawnGood: The evil brains to The Centurion's heroic brawn, Roman wanted to prove that his intellect made him superior to any "muscle-bound meddler."
* CaptainErsatz: The LexLuthor to The Centurion's Superman, though his own Roman and Italian trappings give him a very different feel from Luthor.
* TheChessmaster
* DiabolicalMastermind: Roman is an archetypal diabolical mastermind, running a vast criminal empire from the shadows.
* TheDon: At his most powerful he was The Don, running almost all the crime in Freedom City.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Found Alister Usher's activities revolting.
* EvilGenius: A brilliant intellect, it was the addition of Roman to the Crime League that allowed them to become a genuine threat for the first time.
* EvilOldFolks: In the present day.
* GladiatorGames: Controls the Circuit-Maximus, an underground supervillain fight club.
* Greed: Roman's goals have always been wealth and respect. No matter how much of either one he gains, it never seems to be enough for him.
* KarmaHoudini: While many of the villains of the setting remain at large, Roman may well be the most galling having never been killed, arrested, institutionalised, sealed away, or suffered any of the other common punishments of comic book villains, despite a career stretching back to the 1930s.
* TheMafia: Started out in the Italian mafia and expanded from there.
* ManipulativeBastard: As evidenced by his use and abuse of Nero.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Roman always operated behind the scenes, making sure that his name could never be connected to any of his criminal operations.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste
* MeaningfulName: Shares his name with two Roman emperors and the state itself.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Dispalyed this attitude towards
* Polyglot: English, French, Latin, German, and Italian.
* PragmaticVillainy: After 1943 Roman stayed on the good side of the government and never did anything so over the line as to become a priority for the FBI or heroes other than The Centurion.
* RetiredMonster: Roman may be retired, but he's not sorry about anything he did, and anybody who pushes him may find out just how dangerous the old man can be.
* WickedCultured

!!The Conqueror Worm
->AKA: Michael Reeves

A sickly albino who grew up tormented by his peers in an orphanage, Michael Reeves snapped when, as a young man, he was finally arrested after a string of escalating thefts. Taking the prison chaplain's lecture on sin to heart, Reeves retreated to the underground, dubbed himself The Conqueror Worm after an Edgar Allan Poe poem, and founded the Night Crawler cult, which dedicated itself to cleansing the world of evil. Killing divorcees, prostitutes, hippies, and anybody else who piqued him, Reeves ended up on the SilverAge Raven's radar, and was institutionalised several times, only to break out on each occasion. He was eventually killed during his final confrontation with The Raven.
----
* TheChessmaster
* Cult: Ran a Manson family style cult during the sixties.
* DiabolicalMastermind
* EvilAlbino
* EvilCripple: Reeves' illness left him barely able to move at times.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Sliced in half by broken sewer piping during his last fight with The Raven.
* Hypocrite: Reeves damned drug users and adulterers, while simultaneously maintaining affairs with numerous women in his cult and taking vast amounts of psychotropic drugs.
* ItsPersonal: The Raven took Reeves' actions very personally, and to this day, mention of The Conqueror Worm is one of the few things that can genuinely get under Duncan Summers' skin.
* KarmicDeath: Died when his threats against Jasmine Sin caused Duncan Summers to loosen his grip in surprise, dropping Reeves to his death.
* KilledOffForReal: Died in 1968 and has stayed that way.
* KnightTemplar: Reeves aimed to cleanse society, no matter the cost.
* MisanthropeSupreme: Thought all people were scum who had to have Reeves' version of morality rammed down their throats.
* ManipulativeBastard: Reeves' inhuman charisma gave him almost total control over his followers.
* MeaningfulName: Taken in-universe and out from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Conqueror Worm", in which the titular being devours humanity as punishment for its sins.
* TheMentallyIll: Reeves' ever changing notions of sin and his inability to process the fact that the rest of the world did not operate along the same lines that he did resulted in his being declared unfit to stand trial, and locked up in a mental ward.
* NonActionBigBad: Reeves' poor health and frail physique stopped him from being any sort of physical threat.
* NotSoDifferent: Reeves viewed The Raven as a flawed version of himself. This assessement would bother Duncan Summers for years, as he sought to prove The Worm wrong.
* RedEyesTakeWarning
* Ubermensch: Saw both himself and The Raven as embodiments of the Nietzschean concept, men who were trying to force the world to accept their ideas of what was right and wrong, over society's established rules.
* UnholyMatrimony: With his girlfriend and follower Hilary Dwyer, alias Ligeia.

!!Crimson Katana I
->AKA: Asano Ranaga

One of the worst villains of the GoldenAge to hail from somewhere other than NaziGermany, Asano Ranaga was a low-level thief in the employ of the Yakuza who managed to steal the Three Flames Katana, transforming himself into a vicious killing machine. In the employ of Emperor Hirohito and Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, Asano acted as an assassin and super soldier throughout WWII, slaughtering soldiers and civilians alike. ----
* ArtifactOfDoom: The Three Flames Katana, forged during the first Sino-Japanese War, and quenched in the blood of three hundred Chinese prisoners.

!!Crimson Katana II
->AKA: Toshiro Ranaga

The son of the first Crimson Katana, Toshiro Ranaga discovered his father's sword and took his place at the head of the Katanarchist cult. He also had the head of his father's last victim, the Human Tank, melted down and reforged as a matching wakizashi. A mercenary and killer-for-hire, Toshiro was a wanted man throughout much of the SilverAge, ultimately committing suicide in 1995 at the age of 58. His ghost now infuses the Three Flames Katana, and has gone on to possess his daughter intermittently.
----
* Archnemesis Dad: To his daughter, Kimiyo
* ArtifactOfDoom
* Cult
* DemonicPossession: Of his own daughter.
* DrivenToSuicide: With his career as a villain over, Toshiro killed himself as a means of furthering his legacy and returning as a ghost.
* EvilSorcerer: Has more mystical powers at his disposal than his father did, having become a fully fledged sorcerer during his search for the katana.
* EvilWeapon: Toshiro has, in fact, made the Three Flames Katana more evil by infusing it with his own ghost.
* HiredGuns
* ImperialJapan: Like his father, he represents all the worst aspects of the time period.
* KatanasAreJustBetter
* LegacyCharacter: Inherited his father's legacy.
* MasterSwordsman
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Feels all Westerners are inherently inferior to him.
* ProfessionalKiller
* Ronin: Toshiro saw himself as a masterless samurai following the end of the Japanese Empire, and sold his sold to the highest bidder accordingly.
* SociopathicSoldier

!!Crimson Katana III
->AKA: Kimiyo Ranaga

Not a true villain, Kimiyo Ranaga has nevertheless been forced to live on the outside of the law, thanks to her grandfather and father. A troubled antihero, Kimiyo tries to foil her father's plans, but regularly loses control to his ghost, which often possesses her body. She keeps her swords inside of tattoos on her arms.

!!Doctor Sin
->AKA: Tzin Sing

A Chinese criminal mastermind hailing from the last days of Qing Dynasty, Sin built a criminal empire in the twenties and thirties, involving himself in conflict with various Western heroes. Inactive for much of WWII, he re-emerged in the fifties and sixties, battling the original Raven on many occasions. Presumed dead after the battle that left The Raven crippled, Sin reappeared again in the modern day, to try and kidnap his granddaughter, Raven II. In the process he killed his own daughter, Jasmine Sin, and made Raven II into his enemy.

!!Nero
->AKA: Nicholas "Nick The Mick" Rourke

The son of an abusive father, Nicholas Rourke manifested pyrokinetic abilities at the age of twelve, burning down his family house and everyone in it. Moving from foster home to foster home, Rourke drifted into crime and became an arsonist for hire on the payroll of August Roman, eventually developing a split personality that believed itself to be Emperor Nero of Rome. Diagnosed insane, Rourke fought The Centurion many times, always winding up institutionalised. Following The Centurion's death and Roman's fall from power, Rourke has seemingly turned his life around, and now lives quietly as a glass blower.
----
* TheAtoner: The Nicholas Rourke persona, at least, is very sorry about what he did as Nero and just wants to spend the rest of his life in peace.
* TheEmperor: Believes himself to be the emperor anyway.
* TheMentallyIll: In addition to his pyromania he suffers from a split personality and thinks he's Nero.

* PsychoForHire: During his Nero days.

!!Nacht-Krieger
->AKA: Johann Dietrich Meinhoff

A sadistic bully who joined the SS for more power, Johann Meinhoff was transformed into a being of living shadow through the efforts of Wilhelm Kantor. Initially one of the weaker Nazi projects, the transfer to him of powers from a dying comrade, made Nacht-Krieger one of the most deadly weapons in the Nazi arsenal. At the end of the war, Nacht-Krieger guarded Kantor's escape from the Liberty League, killing many of its members in the process. Sealed by the White Rose, Nacht-Krieger was freed and reincarcerated once in the sixties, before being freed again in the present by Kantor, whose assassin he again serves as.
----
* TheBully
* CastingAShadow

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain
* ThoseWackyNazis

!!Overshadow
->AKA: Wilhelm Kantor

An SS scientist and sorcerer who acted as Heinrich Himmler's NumberTwo for much of the war, Wilhelm Kantor supervised most of the Nazi Ubersoldaten program, helping to create beings like Donar and Nacht-Krieger. Having discovered that he was the reincarnation of an Ancient Egyptian sorcerer named Tan-Aktor, who had once betrayed Pharoah Heru-Ra. Escaping the Liberty League at the end of the war (and causing the deaths of most of its members at his own hands and those of Nacht-Krieger), Kantor perfected his powers, and became Overshadow, the long-lived mastermind of the SHADOW terrorist cell.

!!The Red Death I
->AKA: Yussef Smerdyakov, "Joseph Smith"

A Soviet spy and SilverAge adversary of the first Raven, The Red Death posed as an assassin and later a crime lord in order to gain access to American military and economic secrets, which he then passed back to his superiors in the KGB. Armed with a gas gun and his own formidable training, The Red Death remained an active threat into the 1980s when he faded from the supervillain scene.
----
* BadassNormal: The Red Death's lack of superpowers did not stop him from being a truly dangerous threat.
* BlackCloak
* CoolMask: His red skull mask
* DeadlyGas: Could load his guns with gas that did everything from nauseate to kill.
* DirtyCommies: A classic SilverAge Russian spy.
* InTheHood
* MasterOfDisguise
* MeaningfulName: In more than one way. There's the obvious meaning of his name: he's a Communist killer. He's also, however, named for the Edgar Allan Poe short story The Masque of the Red Death, in which a cloaked figure with a red skull for a face infiltrates a party being thrown by the wealthy, while outside the poor are dying of disease. The figure proves to be the titular disease, The Red Death, and kills everyone at the party. Given Smerdyakov's political leanings it isn't hard to read a Marxist message into the story (a message which can't have been intended by Poe), thus giving several layers of meaning to his codename.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* ProfessionalKiller: Pretended to be one.
* PunchClockVillain: There is no evidence that The Red Death I was particularly sadistic, or indeed, was anything other than the effective Communist agent he was supposed to be.

!!The Red Death II
->AKA:Cecilia Rogers

An investigative reporter for the Daily Herald who had her life destroyed by Majestic Industries CEO Hieronymous King, Cecilia Rogers snapped, located one of the original Red Death's hideouts, and took up his mantle in order to harass King. Attempting to kill King at a dinner party in his honour, Red Death II was stopped by Raven II, but eventually escaped from prison. Now holding a grudge against all wealthy people, Red Death II seeks to kill Freedom City's elite and redistribute their wealth to those she sees as more deserving of it.

Both are Badass Normals who use gadgetry to compensate for a lack of superhuman abilities. !!Ubermensch/Superior
->AKA: Kal-Zed

One of the rare births among the long-lived Hyperborean people of Ultima Thule, Kal-Zed never really fit in with the rest of his society. When explorers from NaziGermany arrived, with their talk of racial superiority and having descended from the Hyperboreans, most of the people of Ultima laughed at them. Kal-Zed, however, accepted the Nazi rhetoric, believing that the people of Ultima were superior to humanity, and should rule over them. During WWII he served as Hitler's personal champion, developing a strong rivarly with Wilhelm Kantor in the process. Following the collapse of the Axis powers, Ubermensch changed his name to Superior to better reflect his status, and went on to be a recurring foe of The Centurion.

Earth's greatest superhero
MutantsAndMasterminds.

Characters
from the GoldenAge into the DarkAge, The Centurion was born on an alternate earth where the Roman Empire lasted until the modern era. During Omega's 1993 invasion of Earth, Leeds gave his life to stop the tyrant. He is sorely missed.

He has a long-running enmity with several other mythical characters including Taurus and his own creation, Talos.

!!The Raven I
->AKA: Duncan Summers

With his daughter now operating as Raven II, Summers has become an instructor at Claremont Academy, helping mentor the next generation of heroes.

!!The Raven II
->AKA: Callie Summers

* TheChessmaster
* ManOfWealthAndTaste
* WickedCultured

!!The Conqueror Worm
->AKA: Michael Reeves

----
* TheChessmaster
* Cult: Ran a Manson family style cult during the sixties.
* DiabolicalMastermind
* EvilAlbino
* RedEyesTakeWarning

!!Crimson Katana I
->AKA: Asano Ranaga

->AKA: Toshiro Ranaga

----

* ArtifactOfDoom

* HiredGuns
* ImperialJapan: Like his father, he represents all the worst aspects of the time period.
* KatanasAreJustBetter
* LegacyCharacter: Inherited his father's legacy.

!!Crimson Katana III
->AKA: Kimiyo Ranaga

Not a true villain, Kimiyo Ranaga has nevertheless been forced to live on the outside of the law, thanks to her grandfather and father. !!Doctor Sin
->AKA: Tzin Sing

!!Nacht-Krieger
->AKA: Johann Dietrich Meinhoff

!!Overshadow
->AKA: Wilhelm Kantor

!!The Red Death I
->AKA: Yussef Smerdyakov, "Joseph Smith"

* BlackCloak
* CoolMask: His red skull mask
* DeadlyGas: Could load his guns with gas that did everything from nauseate to kill.
* DirtyCommies: A classic SilverAge Russian spy.
* InTheHood
* MasterOfDisguise
Given Smerdyakov's political leanings it isn't hard to read a Marxist message into the story (a message which can't
setting have been intended by Poe), thus giving several layers of meaning to his codename.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* ProfessionalKiller: Pretended to be one.
* PunchClockVillain: There is no evidence that The Red Death I was particularly sadistic, or indeed, was anything other than the effective Communist agent he was supposed to be.

When explorers from NaziGermany arrived, with their talk of racial superiority and having descended from the Hyperboreans, most of the people of Ultima laughed at them. During WWII he served as Hitler's personal champion, developing a strong rivarly with Wilhelm Kantor in the process. Following the collapse of the Axis powers, Ubermensch changed his name to Superior to better reflect his status, and went on to be a recurring foe of The Centurion.

Now holding a grudge against all wealthy people, Red Death II seeks to kill Freedom City's elite and redistribute their wealth to those she sees as more deserving of it.
