[[folder: Elliot Alderson]]
[[quoteright:345:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elliot.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:345:[[TitleDrop Hello, friend.]]]]
-> '''Played by:''' Creator/RamiMalek

->''What I do have? Clinical depression, social anxiety, a day job, a night job, confusing relationships, others depending on me, taking down the largest corporation in the world. And I chose it all.''

The protagonist of the series. A vigilante hacker with social anxiety, a morphine addiction, and [[UnreliableNarrator severe hallucinations]], he lost his father to a toxic leak covered up by E Corp and has loathed them ever since. Seeing this and his innate talent for hacking, Mr. Robot drafts him into Fsociety.

* [[AbusiveParents Abusive Parent]]: Elliot's mother was a cruel, chain-smoking woman who was embittered by her husband's ignominious death and apparently took out her frustrations on her son.
** Mr. Alderson was no peach in this department either.
* AccentuateTheNegative: Elliot claims he's an excellent reader of people by looking for the worst in them.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Elliot has social anxiety, possibly Asperger's as well, and may or may not be schizophrenic. He sees men in black observing him wherever he goes. He's prescribed medication and also self-medicates with morphine, a morphine antagonist suboxone (he believes that if he mixes them in the right proportions he won't get addicted) and marijuana. Revelations in later episodes and [[WordOfGod interviews with Sam Esmail]] reveal that Elliot has [[spoiler: dissociative identity disorder, among other things]].
* AntiHero: Type II, of the KnightInSourArmor variety. [[spoiler:And an [[AmnesiacHero Amnesiac Anti-Hero]], at that.]]
* BreakThemByTalking: The TheReasonYouSuckSpeech he gives to Bill is downright [[CrossesTheLineTwice brutal]]. It's bad enough that Bill is shaking and on the brink of tears by the end.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's strange, antisocial and erratic, but he's one of the best hackers out there. It's why he has a job at All Safe and why he's recruited into fsociety.
* CharacterTics: Will nearly always put his hood up when leaving a scene.
* ConsummateLiar: Elliot has a habit of saying what people want to hear when he feels unconformable with the questions.
* FunctionalAddict: Deconstructed. While Elliot is able to hold down a steady job and moonlight as a hacker even with his dependence on morphine, it becomes increasingly clear that it's a bigger problem than he lets on.
* GoingColdTurkey: Elliot has to do this while on the road so that he'll be focused enough to do the job, even if it means going through painful detox.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler: Mr. Robot shows a delusion to Elliot of him slitting Gideon's throat in the season 2 premiere. By the end of the premire Gideon is fataly shot in the neck.]]
* HatesBeingTouched: According to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb7OGhsUsnA this interview]] with Creator/RamiMalek, Elliot strategically avoids being touched by people when walking through the streets.
* InTheHood: Elliot is rarely seen without his black hoodie, even at work.
* InformedLoner: Elliot claims to be an antisocial loner, but he has three female friends, two of which appear to be into him and one who bends over backwards to help him with his neurosis, none of whom he pushes away. Plus he has a boss who considers him a friend, and he sees a shrink regularly. And that's all before he joins a group of underground hackers.
** TruthInTelevision: A common symptom of major depressive disorder (and social anxiety for that matter) is a pervasive feeling of loneliness, even when in the company of friends, family, or general acquaintances. Elliot still prefers solitude even though he loathes it, as he cannot connect with others normally. This is the reason as to why he hacks everyone around him.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Straddles the line between this and CreepyBlueEyes.
* InsufferableGenius: In his internal monologue at least, Elliot constantly criticizes others people and society at large for their obviousness.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Elliot refers to the viewer as a voice in his head and someone he made up. Goes into full-on BreakingTheFourthWall when Elliot asks the viewer [[spoiler:if they knew he had forgotten information about his family]].
* MushroomSamba: Gets an epic one in "da3m0ns."
* PetTheDog: Quite literally. When Elliot confronts the man who is two-timing his therapist, his only demands are that the man tell her the truth—and give Elliot his dog, whom we saw him mistreating earlier in the episode. Considering he frequently expresses his hatred for 90% of human society, he seems very fond of Flipper.
* PlayfulHacker: Hacks people all the time, but never for profit and often for altruistic reasons.
* ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules: A defining character trait of Elliot, established in the very first scene, is that he cannot be bought or bribed.
* SherlockScan: Is an incredibly adept reader of people, despite his admission that he has difficulty connecting to people.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: For a certain value of hero, admittedly. Elliot does not do well with people or socializing at all, having a clear-cut case of social anxiety disorder, which causes him to be distant and laconic most of the time.
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:Mr. Robot is his.]]
** [[spoiler: WordOfGod [[http://variety.com/2015/tv/columns/mr-robot-finale-sam-esmail-interview-1201583453/ confirms]] that Elliot has disassociative identity disorder.]]
* StalkerWithACrush
* SurpriseIncest: Subverted. [[spoiler: Elliot can't remember that Darlene is his sister, but Darlene knows Elliot's her brother. She is heartbroken to realize he doesn't recognize her - and disgusted after he tries to kiss her.]]
* TalkingToThemself: [[spoiler: He talks to Mr Robot frequently.]] Needless to say, this tends to disconcert the people around him.
* ThroughTheEyesOfMadness: Elliot himself doubts that some of things he sees and experiences are real. [[spoiler: By the second season, he knows full well that nothing he experiences can be trusted as fact.]]
* UnreliableNarrator: We're putting this a little ''too'' lightly.
* WhamLine: "You're gonna make me say it, aren't you? [[spoiler: I am Mr. Robot.]]"
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: In the first episode, Elliot receives a file asking him to leave the virus. He debates whether to delete it or not. He doesn't, and re-configures it so only he may access it.
* YouCanSeeThatRight: Asks this to the viewer frequently.

[[folder: fsociety]]

!! Mr. Robot ([[spoiler:Edward Alderson]])
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrrobot.png]]
-> '''Played by:''' Creator/ChristianSlater

->''Money hasn't been real since we got off the gold standard. It's become virtual, software, the operating system of our world. And we, Elliot, are on the verge of taking down that virtual reality.''

Fsociety's founder and leader, responsible for bringing Elliot in to help them. Starts off smarmy and untrustworthy, and only grows more unstable as time goes on. [[spoiler: In reality, he's Elliot and Darlene's father and he died 20 years ago. Elliot only hallucinates his presence as part of his dissociative identity disorder.]]

* AntiVillain: His methods become more vicious as the series progresses, so much so that it often leaves his colleagues (Elliot especially) alienated by him.
* AxCrazy: Pushes Elliot off a pier and casually threatens Romero with a gun while laughing at his fear.
** Invoked in later episodes. Mr. Robot is well aware of his unhinged nature and uses it as an intimidation tactic.
* BigBad: [[spoiler: Season Two is beginning to paint him as a much more ominous and antagonistic figure in Elliot's life.]]
* BreakingTheFourthWall: [[spoiler: Does some of this in the season 1 finale and in season 2 when he actually interrupts Elliot's monologues to the viewer. Of course, what we know about Mr. Robot by that point makes it painfully obvious as to how he is able to do so.]]
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler: The Mr. Robot we see is a delusion made by Elliot. The real Mr. Robot, Edward Alderson, died 20 years ago.]]
* DestructiveSaviour: To the core. Mr. Robot even lampshades this in a conversation with Elliot: [[spoiler:"I'm supposed to be your prophet; you're supposed to be my god."]]
* EnemyWithin: [[spoiler: Throughout Elliot's life, and especially in Season 2 when he's elevated to BigBad status.]]
* JustLikeRobinHood: His goal, as the leader of fsociety, is to create the largest incident of wealth redistribution in history.
* MrFixit: Used to be a computer repairman.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Subverted. [[spoiler:Mr. Robot and Elliot are the same person, so while some people in fsociety may call him Mr. Robot, all of them know Elliot's name.]]
* PetTheDog: He has a few moments where he shows affection for Elliot, such as when he helps Elliot through his morphine withdrawal and [[spoiler: tries to distract him from the brutal beating he is going through by creating a sitcom-like dreamworld. He assures him that "all I was trying to do was take those punches for you."]]
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Not to a large extent, but he does remark that Trenton has some "Allahu Akbar" in her.
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler: His presence is really just Elliot taking on his persona.]]
* TeamDad: [[spoiler:Literally to Darlene and Elliot.]] Ultimately ''averted,'' with TheReveal that [[spoiler:the Mr. Robot we see is actually a delusion and split personality of Elliot, who is about as far from this trope as a team leader can get.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: [[spoiler: Basically everything Mr. Robot does in the first season has to be reevaluated post-reveal.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Wants to create a more equal and free society by destroying data centers of the biggest debt owners. He also has no issue with the threat of killing people to make sure it happens - even his own subordinates.
* TheWonka: Oscillates between this and TheCaligula ''frequently.''

!!Darlene [[spoiler:Alderson]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrrobot_person_carly.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Carly Chaikin

->''Even your stupid hoodie can't protect you, bitch!''

A founding member of Fsociety [[spoiler: and Elliot's sister]]. She is an expert coder with few boundaries and little fear. She has little respect for others' privacy, including Elliot's, and generally says what she thinks. She has been involved with Cisco, a hacker associated with rival hacker group the Dark Army.

* BatterUp: [[spoiler: Takes a baseball bat to Cisco's face after looking through his computer and finding evidence of betrayal.]]
* BigBrotherWorship: Downplayed, but it's there. [[spoiler:Darlene says that Elliot is the best person she knows, and gives him total credit for pulling off everything it takes to take down Steel Mountain and change the world.]]
* CommitmentIssues: Darlene is furious and put off when her boyfriend proposes to her, and decides to "disappear" for a few days afterwards.
* CoolShades: Darlene has several pairs of these.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In the second season, she starts up her own consistent arc and receives frequent focus.
* {{Determinator}}: When she wants to do something, it ''will'' happen. It doesn't matter if you're her colleague, her significant other, her Dark Army contact, or her childhood friend. Darlene does not give up.
* [[HeWhoFightsMonsters She Who Fights Monsters]]: Starts to slip into this as Season 2 progresses, notably in "succ3ss0r.p12" where she [[spoiler:murders Susan Jacobs and realizes she doesn't feel bad about it at all.]]
* MsFanservice: Quite a bit of her scenes involve her being naked, half-dressed, or otherwise showing skin.
* ShowSomeLeg: Distracts police officers using this tactic.
* LightFeminineDarkFeminine: The dark to Angela's light.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: To Elliot. Darlene comes into his house unannounced, uses his shower, borrows his clothing, and gives him TooMuchInformation about her personal life. She sees no issue with this behavior. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted, however, since Darlene is Elliot's sister and he's somehow forgotten her existence.]]
* ThickerThanWater: [[spoiler:She breaks Fsociety's rules about no electronic contact to exchange numbers with Elliot for this reason.]]
* WhamLine: Delivers one to Elliot: [[spoiler:"Did you forget again? Did you forget who I am?"]]
* YouAreInCommandNow: [[spoiler: Following the 5/9 hack and Elliot's self-imposed exile, she takes up leadership of Fsociety.]]

!!Romero
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/romero_0.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Ron Cephas Jones

->''Fuck no, man. I'm too broke to be superstitious.''

The oldest of the group, Romero began as a phone phreaker nearly thirty years ago and has continued to hack ever since. He was introduced to fsociety by Mobley.

* TheCynic: The most cynical of the group, and the most eager to leave when he feels as though they are not getting anywhere.
* {{Hypochondriac}}: Elliot describes him as this.
* KidnappedByTheCall: Tries to leave fsociety to a quiet life of growing and selling pot, until Mr. Robot threatens him with a gun to come back.
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler: Shot in his backyard by an unknown party before the second episode, and discovered by Mobley at the start.]]
* OnlySaneMan: Sees himself as this. Given the behavior of his colleagues [[spoiler: and the fact that his boss has a homicidal SplitPersonality]], he may be right.
* SeenItAll: Romero says he's been in the "hacking game" for 27 years.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He is not given as much focus as some other Fsociety members, but the second season reveals that [[spoiler: he was the one who got the Coney Island hideout for Fsociety]], and [[spoiler: his death tips Fsociety off that someone knows who they are]].

!!Trenton
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image1_5.PNG]]
->'''Played by:''' Sunita Mani

-> ''Have you ever considered which part of our scheme motivates you?''

A quiet young college student who was born to Iranian immigrant parents. She questions her parents' values as assimilated Americans and joined fsociety to fight against society's destructive consumerism. She strikes up a friendship with Darlene, and later helps her deal with the Dark Army.

* DefectorFromDecadence: Her primary motivation for joining Fsociety. Her parents embraced "the American Dream" upon leaving Iran, but she grew disgusted by their rampant consumerism and has come to believe that they will die in debt.
* NiceGirl: One of the kinder members of Fsociety.
** BewareTheNiceOnes: That said, it was her idea for Fsociety to demand Colby's release, ensuring that [[FrameUp he looked even guiltier]] and that attention was taken away from them.
--->'''Mr Robot:''' She might look innocent, but be careful. [[PoliticallyIncorrectHero She's got some "Allahu Akbar" in her.]]
* TheQuietOne: Speaks the least among Fsociety's ranks.
* TokenReligiousTeammate

!!Mobley
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_309.png]]
->'''Played by:''' Azhar Khan

-> ''People are all just people, right? When it gets down to it, everyone's the same. They love something. They want something. They fear something. Specifics help, but specifics don't change the way that everyone is vulnerable. It just changes the way that we access those vulnerabilities.''

An IT technician for Bank of E, Mobley took part in many of fsociety's hacks and introduced Romero to the group. He becomes Darlene's closest advisor following the 5/9 hack, but soon becomes suspicious of both Darlene and Elliot after [[spoiler: Romero's murder.]]

* ADayInTheLimelight: Much of "Successor" focuses on him as his paranoia rapidly increases.
* AscendedExtra: He was one of the lesser-exposed Fsociety members in the first season, frequently eclipsed by Trenton and Romero. The second season gives him significantly more screen time and important dialogue, and even has him be the one to [[spoiler: discover Romero's corpse]].
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Trenton implies that getting to hang around with like-minded people is his main reason for joining fsociety in the first place.
* MirthlessLaughter: He laughs hysterically after finding out about [[spoiler: Susan Jacob's death.]]
* MrViceGuy: Elliot notes that he tends to give into his urges.
* NamesTheSame: In-universe to a DJ working out of Las Vegas, [[spoiler: which throws off the FBI momentarily until they trace an old DJ Mobley fansite back to fsociety's Mobley.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Mobley seems to be an online handle. [[spoiler: In "Successor", we find out his real surname is Markesh.]]
* PluckyComicRelief: The most casual and lighthearted member of fsociety.
* ProperlyParanoid: Zigzagged. [[spoiler: He's correct that fsociety is under surveillance by the FBI but is unaware how little they know about them.]]
* RunningGag: He'll often reiterate statements made by other fsociety members, but cleaned up and simplified to avoid offense.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: AllSafe]]

!! Angela Moss
[[quoteright:343:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrrobot_angela2.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Portia Doubleday

->''I have an idea that will change the world. I know it sounds really stupid, but I know how to do it. I think it could actually work.''

Elliot's best friend since childhood and one of his only confidantes. She lost her mother in the same E Corp toxic leak that claimed Elliot's father, giving her similar resentment of E Corp and of Terry Colby specifically.

* {{Deuteragonist}}: In Season One, she's only other character with a consistent story arc running parallel to Elliot's. Darlene usurps the position in the second season, but Angela is still a major focus.
* DissonantSerenity: Invoked by a salesman as she's buying new shoes [[spoiler:after getting blood on them from the [=EVP=]'s public suicide]], who says that's "really cold". Her response? "I don't know who you think you're talking to, but I'll try the Pradas next."
* DumbBlonde: Averted, much to the chagrin of Terry Colby.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Elliot says she's "one of the good ones."
* HazyFeelTurn: [[spoiler: Accepts a job offer from Terry Colby to work for E Corp. While not overtly evil yet, she's now working at cross-purposes with our heroes who want to bring down EvilCorp. Likewise, it has awakened some of her darker instincts]].
* OnlyFriend: Seems to have been this to Elliott, up until recently.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: An in-universe one. The stress of her day results in her briefly becoming a RichBitch in a shoe-store. This, [[spoiler: despite her new job]], being poor as hell and an otherwise NiceGirl.
* NiceGirl: Angela has been this her entire life. It's not worked out for her very well.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Elliott was one to her.
* UnwantedAssistance: "Even if I'm losing, ''let me lose'', okay?"

!!Gideon Goddard
[[quoteright:270:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrrobot_gideon.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Michael Gill

->''You're never sure about anything unless there's something to be sure about.''

The owner of Allsafe and employer of Elliot and Angela. Notable for being one of the few pure, consistently stable characters in the series.

* AlliterativeName
* AFatherToHisMen: Non-military example. He genuinely cares about Elliot, and asks Angela to consider the consequences of her actions on her coworkers and their families when she tells him [[spoiler:she's confessing to breaking chain of custody with E Corp in order to get Terry Colby to admit E Corp was responsible for her mother's death.]]
* BackForTheDead: A black comedy example. He reappears in [[spoiler: Elliot's sitcom delusion in 'm4ster-s1ave' as a highway cop, but gets [[ItMakesSenseInContext killed by ALF]] after less than a minute.]]
* BeingGoodSucks: The most benevolent character in the series who takes his responsibility to clients and employees seriously whose business and, consequently, reputation in said line of business slowly come apart around him as collateral damage to fsociety's plans. Even Elliot sounds genuinely regretfully at being party to essentially destroying Gideon. It gets worse in the second season, [[spoiler:where the ruin of his business destroys him as a person, causes his partner to leave him, then gets him shot by an apparent conspiracy theorist convinced he was a "crisis actor" who helped set the whole thing up.]]
* [[spoiler: BuryYourGays]]
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler: Unceremoniously shot in the neck in the second episode of season 2.]]
* GenreSavvy: Gets the infected server double checked even after thanking Elliot for stopping the hack and inviting him over for dinner, and is the first character to say out loud that the odd situations happening tend to revolve around Elliot's appearance and disappearance.
* HeroAntagonist: He's an upstanding, friendly man who cares about his employees, a polar opposite to the [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Corrupt Corporate Executives]] plaguing E Corp, and generally the purest character on the show. However, his GenreSavvy suspicion regarding the hacks and the countermeasures he eventually puts in place cause a number of problems for Elliot and Fsociety.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Of everyone on the show, he is the most upstanding and benevolent by far. [[AccentuateTheNegative Elliot]] puts it best: "Have I told you what I saw when I hacked Gideon? [[WhatYouAreInTheDark When I peeked into his secrets?]] I saw a good, honest man."
* ItsAllMyFault: Tells Tyrell about [[spoiler:Angela breaking chain of custody with E Corp]], says he will accept full responsibility for the lapse, and takes personal responsibility for monitoring the infected server after making it into a honeypot.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: In stark contrast to the corporate executives, Gideon is presented as calm, down-to-earth, and dedicated. He also listens to his employees and wants the best for them.
* StraightGay: Displays no gay mannerisms and has been told by his more effeminate partner to "come out" to people in his daily life rather than hide his identity.
* SurprisinglySuddenDeath: [[spoiler: The man he's talking to at the bar pulls out a gun and shoots him in the last minutes of episode 2 of season 2.]]
* TraumaCongaLine: Following the end of the first season, [[spoiler: he loses a massive sum of money, is forced to shut down Allsafe and fire all of his valued employees due to their failure to protect E Corp from the hack, is divorced by his husband, and finally gets shot dead in a grimy bar by a conspiracy theorist who knows he's a patsy.]]

!!Ollie Parker
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ollie.png]]
->'''Played by:''' Ben Rappaport

Angela's boyfriend.

* BreakTheHaughty: While not as bad as Tyrell, Ollie's arrogance allows [[spoiler: a hacker to steal his private information, as well the accounts of Angela and her father. This quickly leads to Angela learning of his affair, getting framed for sending a virus into All Safe that his girlfriend sent, losing said girlfriend, and generally becoming a mess.]]
* HateSink: Ask any fan of the show who the worst character is, and you will most likely be told it's Ollie. Redditors frequently post "r/fuckollie" on the show's subreddit, and it has reached MemeticMutation levels.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Constantly, and one of many reasons [[spoiler: Angela finally dumps him.]]
* KickTheDog: For his only appearance in Season 2, he tries to [[spoiler: trick Angela into incriminating herself on tape, so he can offer her up to the FBI and save himself from prosecution for the Allsafe breach.]]
* YourCheatingHeart
* TooDumbToLive: Although he works at a cybersecurity firm, his password is '123456Seven'. He also puts a dodgy CD bought off the street into his computer without making any attempts to check if it was safe first.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: E Corp]]

!! E Corp in general

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Every one of its members displays qualities like this.
* EvilCorp: Is TropeNamed this by Elliot, who has conditioned himself to hear their name as this. Zigzagged in that the corporation is clearly not out to commit evil acts, but earns the title by exemplifying some of the worst business practices in the world.
* LackOfEmpathy: All of its executives seem to have this quality.
* MegaCorp: Is the world's largest corporation and has interests in banking, housing, technology, and chemicals among others.

!!Phillip Price
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phillip_price_01.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Michael Cristofer

->''We all know, a con doesn't work without the confidence.''

The CEO of E Corp.

* AffablyEvil: His genuinely casual attitude and calm nature makes you forget he's an amoral CorruptCorporateExecutive. In the second episode of the second season, he even [[spoiler: gives Angela incriminating evidence against two of the E Corp employees who wronged her.]]
* BigBad: By default, since he's the CEO of E Corp.
* BigBadEnsemble: Part of this in Season 2, alongside White Rose, [[spoiler: Mr. Robot, and Ray.]]
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Once again, CEO of E Corp.
* TheCorrupter: Becoming one for [[spoiler: Angela]].
* DissonantSerenity: Angela notices he's completely unphased by [[spoiler: his corporation losing 400 billion dollars, a loss that should ruin E Corp and may collapse the world economy altogether.]]
* HiddenDepths: As time goes on, he's slowly revealed to be less of a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] asshole than previously thought, and demonstrates real feelings and things he cares about. He also seems genuinely hurt when Angela denies his invitation to celebrate his secret birthday party, and has to awkwardly excuse himself.
* HitlerCam: Has one of these when addressing E Corp's executives.
* LackOfEmpathy: Zig-zagged; he offers Angela money and time off after [[spoiler: she witnesses a gruesome suicide]], but shows no concern for and actively speaks ill of [[spoiler: the actual suicide victim.]]
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: He has a few brief scenes scattered throughout the first season, each revealing a bit more about his personality and importance, but it isn't until the season finale that he becomes a prominent character and starts interacting with the cast.

!!Tyrell Wellick
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tyrellwellick.png]]
->'''Played by:''' Martin Wallström

->''Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.''

A high-ranking E Corp employee. His struggle to become the CTO drives him to increasingly dangerous and insane lengths, which ultimately bring him in conflict with Elliot.

As of the second season, [[spoiler: Tyrell is missing following his involvement in the 5/9 hack, but has made moves to indicate that he's still alive]].

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: The reason Tyrell was passed up for the (official) decision of CTO.
* AxCrazy: Pays a homeless man to let him use him for a punching bag, [[spoiler:and kills his business rival's wife during [[CoitusEnsues spontaneous sex]]]].
* BigBadWannabe: While at first he's made out to be the main threat, it grows ever clearer that Tyrell is in over his head and undergoing [[SanitySlippage a steady mental breakdown]]. Once his plan to become CTO fails miserably [[spoiler: and he gets fired from his job altogether]], the real threats begin to expose themselves while he's stuck floundering for something to do.
* BreakTheHaughty: Thanks to a villanious example of a TraumaCongaLine. As if being [[PassedOverPromotion passed for the promotion he'd been working on]] wasn't bad enough, he [[spoiler:kills his rival's wife on an impulse by accident]], bringing stress and suspicion to him and his wife enough to have her [[spoiler:tell him flat out she wants to leave him now that the baby has arrived]], and then he [[spoiler:gets fired from his job as SVP at E Corp]]. It has not been a good few weeks to be Mr. Wellick.
* DepravedBisexual: Seduces people of both genders to further his nefarious goals. It's unclear whether he's truly bisexual or just has the will to fake it.
** WordOfGod is the latter. It has nothing to do with sexuality to him, it's an emotionless power play.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He's a ruthless PsychopathicManchild, sure, but Tyrell genuinely adores his wife and their son, [[spoiler:and looks [[BreakTheHaughty absolutely broken]] when Joanna says she wants to leave him]].
** UnholyMatrimony: Joanna is well aware of what he's doing, and even helps with planning.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Fires several of his subordinates for their casual homophobia in his presence. Admittedly this is because of his bisexuality, but also because he won't stand for people deriding MSMs around him.
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:Joins up with fsociety, albeit by threatening Elliot.]]
* FauxAffablyEvil: Acts like a friendly and personable executive who cares about the lower employees and never forgets his roots. This is all a ruse to hide the AxCrazy psychopath that lurks beneath his MaskOfSanity.
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:He tells Elliot that he doesn't feel guilty for strangling Knowle's wife because it gave him a thrill of power over his victim.]]
* HollywoodHacking: Averted with enthusiasm. Tyrell's [[spoiler:hacking of server 30]] is pretty dead on.
* HoneyTrap: Tyrell's preferred method of manipulation, showing himself being both willing to seduce a man so he can hack his cellphone and his rival's wife with the intention of sabotaging his rival's career.
* ManipulativeBastard: Ultimately subverted. He sees himself as a master of manipulation and he does pull off a few victories, but his obsession with being in control leads to numerous mistakes and, eventually, causes him to [[spoiler: ''accidentally'' murder the woman he was manipulating.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: In addition to being AxCrazy, Tyrell throws tantrums when he doesn't get something he wants.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: A variant. While not explicitly clueless, most businessmen in E Corp are presented as technologically illiterate and otherwise unaware. Tyrell knows more than he lets on (even for the interim CTO), and uses this public persona to his advantage.
* SleepingTheirWayToTheTop: Tyrell Wellick seduces both men and women to try to become CTO of E Corp, such as when he slept with a male secretary to steal information about his rivals.
* SmugSnake: Believes himself to be the BigBad of E Corp and a MagnificentBastard who is able to outsmart everyone around him. He's actually [[SuicidalOverconfidence excessively overconfident]] and [[{{Pride}} arrogant]] and is obviously losing control of both himself and his plan.
* TheSociopath: Superficial and fake charm, LackOfEmpathy for most people, manipulative behavior and general tendency to view humans as objects, violent and erratic personality and appears to have no moral standards whatsoever.
* TheUnfettered: There are no lengths he won't go to get what he wants.

* ArchEnemy: Angela's, at least for a time.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Tries to pull this on Angela in regards to the incident that killed her mother, but it backfires and makes him feel worse.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Though he's a lot better than Price or Tyrell.
* DirtyOldMan: Gives off shades of this when talking to Angela, but it's just an intimidation tactic.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He may be corrupt and ruthless, but he draws the line at deliberately threatening people's lives. He's also genuinely horrified and remorseful when Angela tells him that her mother died because of a decision he made.
* EvilIsPetty: Browbeats Angela for a minor description mistake during a conference.
* FrameUp: Framed by Elliot and fsociety for their own cyber crimes.
* HeelFaceTurn: Of a sort. After Angela confronts him over his role in her mother's death, he becomes remorseful and admits that E Corp has problems. [[spoiler: To that end, he offers Angela a position at the company, implying that she can do what she can to fix it from the inside out.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When confronted with the daughter of someone who was killed because of a business decision he made on what he remembers as a perfectly normal day, remorse hits him hard.

!!The Dark Army in general

* EvilCounterpart: To Fsociety.

* SamusIsAGirl: Elliot's narration refers to White Rose as "he" until they meet in person.

On one hand, he acts as a link between them and the Dark Army, informs them of [[spoiler: the FBI surveillance program targeting them, and helps Darlene dispose of a body.]] On the other, he's a member of a society who are clearly more interested in using fsociety as pawns than they are allying with them, and, [[spoiler: when Darlene hacks into his computer, she finds that he has secretly informed the Dark Army of her location and sent them a photo of herself sleeping.]]

[[spoiler: When she has the parking attendant killed, she specifically has him paralyzed and set down before he's shot, as she believes murder is only okay if the victim has time to realize why they're being killed.]]
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler: Pops her own amniotic sac with a large metal implement just so the authorities will pass up on interrogating her husband.]]
* BondageIsBad: Evil and deeply into extreme [=BDSM=], where she's near-choked by restraints or a knife is run across her skin and she intentionally flinches so that it cuts her a little.
* DissonantSerenity: Doesn't really seem too bothered when [[spoiler: her husband goes missing. However, the Danish phrase that she says to Elliot shows her true feelings: "If you've done something to him, I'll kill you."]]
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Speaks Danish at home.
* LadyMacbeth: Joanna is well aware of the steps Tyrell is taking to become [=CTO=] of E Corp - in fact, she helps him plan it out.
* ManBehindTheMan: It's strongly hinted that she is the brains of Tyrell's operation, and that her influence is what causes Tyrell to become so unstable.
* ManipulativeBastard: Has an uncanny talent for reading people to determine their motives and manipulate them to further her goals. Tyrell is no exception.
* TeenPregnancy: Had a child at 15 whom she gave up for adoption. She never told anyone who "didn't need to know." Even Tyrell was in the dark until after their son was born.
* TheOmniscient: Certainly gives off this impression. After Elliott talks to her for just a couple minutes, he already grows paranoid that she is somehow aware of his "imaginary friend".

* AmbiguousDisorder: From her subtle behavior and the self-help guide she checks out, it's clear that she has some form of social anxiety or a similar disorder.
* AmbiguouslyGay: While telling someone about the day her ex proposed, Dominique uses strictly gender-neutral pronouns. Notably, a news story about the nationwide legalization of gay marriage is playing in the background. In a later episode, she tells Angela that she had a dream that started out well with a beautiful, sexy woman in it, though she doesn't say what that woman was doing.
* FBIAgent: The main representative of the FBI in the second season.
* HeroAntagonist: Dom is a kind woman who seems to have only noble goals at heart, and she explicitly states that she hates corruption and evil people. However, she leads the hunt for Elliot and Fsociety in the second season, and thus becomes a problem for them to deal with.
* NoSocialSkills: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] for a more realistic take on social anxiety. She can navigate social and business situations well enough, but she sometimes visibly panics and slips up, or says something at the wrong time that causes her embarrassment.
* OralFixation: She's rarely seen without a lollipop in her mouth.

* AffablyEvil: When he first meets Elliot he's quite talkative and helpful if not a bit forceful, he even gives him advice on how to deal with depression and relates to him. Elliot also describes him as "one of the worst people I've ever had to hack".
* AxCrazy: A psychotic drug dealer who takes lives without a second thought, [[spoiler: Shayla's included.]]
* BigBadWannabe: He fashions himself Elliot's nemesis and the biggest threat in the city, but he's really just a mid-level drug dealer with a couple of criminal connections. * KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: Gets broken out of jail, thwarts his brother's assassination attempt, and flees without receiving a comeuppance for killing Shayla.]]
* ThePowerOfHate: In his words, his "power". He tells Elliot that a person can't understand themselves until they truly hate themselves.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: He's been drugging and raping Shayla. This is the straw that breaks the camel's back and is what pushes Elliot to bust him.

[[index]]
* [[AbusiveParents Abusive Parent]]: Elliot's mother was a cruel, chain-smoking woman who was embittered by her husband's ignominious death and apparently took out her frustrations on her son.
** Mr. Alderson was no peach in this department either.
Characters/MrRobotMainCharacters
* AccentuateTheNegative: Elliot claims he's an excellent reader of people by looking for the worst in them.
Characters/MrRobotfsociety
* AmbiguousDisorder: Elliot has social anxiety, possibly Asperger's as well, and may or may not be schizophrenic. He sees men in black observing him wherever he goes. He's prescribed medication and also self-medicates with morphine, a morphine antagonist suboxone (he believes that if he mixes them in the right proportions he won't get addicted) and marijuana. Revelations in later episodes and [[WordOfGod interviews with Sam Esmail]] reveal that Elliot has [[spoiler: dissociative identity disorder, among other things]].
Characters/MrRobotAllsafeSecurity

Characters/MrRobotECorp
* BreakThemByTalking: The TheReasonYouSuckSpeech he gives to Bill is downright [[CrossesTheLineTwice brutal]]. It's bad enough that Bill is shaking and on the brink of tears by the end.
Characters/MrRobotDarkArmy
* StalkerWithACrush

* AxCrazy: Pushes Elliot off a pier and casually threatens Romero with a gun while laughing at his fear.
** Invoked in later episodes. Mr. Robot is well aware of his unhinged nature and uses it as an intimidation tactic.

->'''Played by:''' Portia Doubleday

->'''Played by:''' Michael Gill

->''You're never sure about anything unless there's something to be sure about.''

The owner of Allsafe and employer of Elliot and Angela. Notable for being one of the few pure, consistently stable characters in the series.

* AlliterativeName
* [[spoiler: BuryYourGays]]

* YourCheatingHeart
* TooDumbToLive: Although he works at a cybersecurity firm, his password is '123456Seven'. He also puts a dodgy CD bought off the street into his computer without making any attempts to check if it was safe first.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler: Vanishes between the first season's penultimate episode and the season finale. No solid answers are given as to his whereabouts, and what happened between the episodes forms a driving question of the second season.]]

A high-ranking E Corp executive responsible in part for the toxic leak that killed Elliot's father and Angela's mother.

* StarterVillain: He's framed and fired from E Corp in the first episode, before Tyrell takes center stage as a threat. Recurring appearances drop some of his villainous qualities.

* MoneyToBurn: In the second season premiere, [[spoiler: Darlene blackmails him into wearing an Fsociety mask and setting $5.9 million on fire in the middle of Battery Park]].
* UnknownRival: He knows Tyrell hates him for gaining the position he wanted and prepares for his backlash, but he doesn't suspect just how deep the hate runs.

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: She had a hand in many cases where the company was falsely cleared of wrongdoing. [[spoiler: She ''laughed'' when E Corp escaped justice for killing Elliot and Darlene's father.]]
* TheDreaded: She isn't called "Madame Executioner" for nothing.
* HighVoltageDeath: [[spoiler: She dies when Darlene electrocutes her with a taser, short circuiting her pacemaker.]]
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler: Her body is secretly cremated in an animal crematorium.]]

* EvilCounterpart: To Fsociety.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: They wear traditional demon masks when out in the open.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: This is the reputation that they cultivate, but it's hinted that they may have political aspirations, as well, and their aid to Fsociety is a part of that goal.

* TheDreaded: Everyone in the hacking world seems to fear her, and not without reason.
* EvilAllAlong: She was already considered less than moral as the head of the Dark Army, but the season finale reveals [[spoiler: that she's close allies with the CEO of Evil Corp and may help him track down Elliot.]]
* HiddenDepths: During a conversation with Dom about the concept of parallel realities (during which she is presenting as a man), she starts cracking and tearing up when she hits upon the subject of people being born into different identities.
* LudicrousPrecision: As part of her [[ClockKing Clock Queen]] tendencies.
* OnlySaneMan: Much shrewder and more wary of Fsociety's capabilities than [[spoiler: her E Corp allies like Price.]]
* PlayingBothSides: When presenting as female, she leads the Dark Army. When presenting as male, [[spoiler: she is both China's Minister of Security and a prominent enough E Corp ally to personally dine with Phillip Price]].
* SamusIsAGirl: Elliot's narration refers to White Rose as "he" until they meet in person.
* {{Transsexual}}: Sam Esmail refers to her as female in interviews even when talking about her public persona, making it clear that she's transsexual, as opposed to crossdressing as White Rose.

* {{Fingore}}: [[spoiler: Angry at his insubordination, his Dark Army superiors inject a needle into his index finger then snap it off, leaving the metal inside.]]

Tyrell's wife, who repeatedly proves herself the more competent of the pair.

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Her moral code, what little she has of one, is utterly alien.

* AffablyEvil: Constantly pleasant and friendly, even when he's talking to someone who pisses him off, but he regularly has his enforcers beat people and is in charge of a nebulous criminal affair. [[spoiler: Turns out he runs a Silk Road-style arms-drugs-and-human-trafficking website and is willing to viciously murder those who endanger it.]]
* ArcVillain: [[spoiler: The main villain of Elliot's prison arc.]]
* BigBadEnsemble: [[spoiler: Briefly part of it in Season 2, along with Phillip Price, White Rose, and Mr. Robot.]]
* BigFun: A larger man, but very friendly and charming. [[spoiler: At least on the surface.]]
* DeadPersonConversation: To deal with his wife's passing, he holds imaginary conversations with her at the dinner table.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[spoiler: Ross Ulbricht, the man who founded the Silk Road online black market. Aside from their business similarities, they have similar logos and site layouts, and both go / went by the username [[Film/ThePrincessBride Dread Pirate Roberts]]. In fact, there are strong hints that Ray is meant to be the still-unidentified second "Dread Pirate Roberts" who restarted Silk Road after Ulbricht's arrest]].
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Lets himself get caught for his crimes and allows Elliot to go free.]]
* HeelRealisation: [[spoiler: He only looks into what his website is hosting after coming into contact with Elliot. The guilt of this drives him into letting Elliot get him busted.]]
* MeaningfulName: R. Heyworth, as in [[spoiler: ''Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption''.]]
* MysteriousStranger: He first appears without warning in Elliot's life and displays qualities that make Elliot both drawn to and wary of him. We learn nothing about his past or his enigmatic Bitcoin-based business for several episodes, leaving him a total enigma. [[spoiler: He's ultimately revealed to be the mastermind behind a profitable black market website dealing in human trafficking, drugs, and arms dealing.]]
* PragmaticVillainy: After his former IT guy (whom Ray has already had beaten up) tells him he can't do the site migration Ray wants, Ray's enforcer offers to beat him up again, but Ray tells him there's no point if the man just doesn't know how to do it.
* WalkingSpoiler: Once [[spoiler: his business is revealed in "Logic Bomb"]], discussing him becomes much more difficult without spoiling things.
* WardensAreEvil: [[spoiler: He's a warden at the prison Elliot gets sent to, and has been running an illegal site and violently beating prisoners for not helping him.]]

->''People walk around, act like they know what hate means. Nah, no one does, until you hate yourself. I mean truly hate yourself. ''That's'' power.''

A homicidal gangster and drug dealer, and Shayla's ex-boyfriend. His actions toward Shayla eventually force him into blows with Elliot, resulting in his imprisonment.

If it weren't for his ties to Shayla [[spoiler: and his abduction of her after being imprisoned]], Elliot would likely never have met him.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He's only in two episodes and spends most of the latter in prison, [[spoiler: but his murder of Shayla deprives Elliot of one of his closest friends and deeply impacts his mental state for the remainder of the season.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: Toward his ex-girlfriend Shayla.
* TalkativeLoon: Talks so much during his first meeting with Elliot that all Elliot hears is a ringing.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His obsession with {{Series/Seinfeld}} makes him seem like a bit of one.
