* JerkassWithAHeartOfGold: He is rigid, ''very'' hot-tempered and also a bit pedantic, but not a bad guy overall, and he cares deeply for Mortadelo even if he would die before admitting it.

* {{Expy}}: Apparently, Ibáñez based his appearance and role on Professor Zwart from ''ComicBook/{{Spirou}}''. He has also some elements from Professor Calculus from ''ComicBook/{{Tintin}}'', mainly related to its featured plots.

* NiceGuy : Downplayed. He is the most even-tempered of the main cast as he is spending most of his time minding his own business and is usually being very polite and approchable when not inventing. Still, as mentionned in the MadScientist entry, Bacterio has no problem using his own colleague (especially Mortadelo and Filemon) or himself as Guinea Pigs.

* HiddenDepths: Normally acts as if she was Creator/ScarlettJohanson, but characterization over the years has hinted that Ofelia is actually aware of her obesity and a bit insecure about it.

* AlphaBitch: A non-school example, as she was an ideal worker in all senses who mistreated her less popular colleagues if she had the chance.

* {{Jerkass}}: While usually professional and collected, she also showed pretty clear that she considered both the title characters and Ofelia to be underneath her.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Bestiájez only appeared as a full-fledged character during TheSeventies and TheEighties, after which Ibáñez would use a random SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute to fulfill his role. However, his surname would be sporadically used over the years in what could be considered re-designed versions of him.

* BadBoss: Downplayed. While he has proved to be almost as vengeful and abusive as the Supervisor if pressed enough, he is clearly a much more reasonable, collected individual and it takes much more for him to get angry.

* AmbiguousDisorder : [[NoSocialSkills Absolutely clueless in social situations , especially with the upper class ?]] Check. [[LiteralMinded Has a unfortunate tendency to talk and take things literally ?]] Check. [[LackOfEmpathy Misintrepret constantly words and orders ?]] Check. Obsessed by disguises to the point it might impact others negatively ? Check.

* CreepyMortician: People often mistake him for one because his attire is similar to a classic Spanish undertaker uniform. In fact, whenever he really disguises himself as one, his clothing barely changes.

* GeniusDitz: While certainly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he can be an actually competent agent when getting serious, and he's far more likely than Filemón to come up with ideas to save the day.

* ImpossibleThief: Although this trope is used very often in the series, Mortadelo is the one who does it the most frequently, switching a valuable item, a MacGuffin or himself for something completely useless like a master. However, this also has an unfortunate tendency to backfire when he accidentally does the switch in reverse or fails to do it altogether.

* MasterActor: Subverted. While he ''does'' sometimes accomplish perfectly the tasks of his disguises, he usually only has [[MasterOfNone the basic knowledge on how to do keep up the deception]] and [[WalkingDisasterArea without fail provoke major disasters]]
* MasterOfDisguise: Zig-zagged. He is an expert on disguises, but how efficient they are is heavily mandated by the needs of the plot. He sometimes uses WigDressAccent or very amateur-looking party suits, which get his cover blown up quickly, but most of the time he dons disguises of animals, objects, vehicles and other things that amount to literally turning into them, making him indistinguishable. The only flaw is that he is usually keeping his face and or white collar, but this never alerts the antagonists.

* OutdatedOutfit: His signature black frock coat, which was already out of style when he was first introduced in 1958.

* UndyingLoyalty: To Filemón, whom he calls his "boss". Not matter how much Filemón berates or mistreats Mortadelo, the latter never resents him.

** IronButtMonkey: It doesn´t matter if he is burned, blown up or given a brutal NoHoldsBarredBeatdown, he will be completely recovered by next panel

!!Supervisor Vicente Ruínez ; El Súper

* {{Hypocrite}}: He enjoys a hefty paycheck while the rest of the TIA is heavily under-budgeted, and brushes it off when it is pointed.
* ItsAllAboutMe : A good number of the earlier stories where he sends M &F searching for a MacGuffin , it turns out to be for a [[ShaggyDogStory very petty reason]] (pack of cigarettes, embarrassing secret...). The best part is he does seem confused and shocked by his agents (justified) anger.

* LargeAndInCharge: In weight more than in height, although this depends on the scene; he is sometimes shorter than Filemón and sometimes of the same height. However, in ''Dibújalos tú solito'', an instruction manual on how to draw the characters, [[WordofGod Ibáñez says himself]] that El Súper is in fact taller than Filemon.

* OnlyOneName: In the comics themselves, he is just known as Vicente. His surname was officially revealed later (and with some controversy, as a source claims his surname is Patente while other presumably higher says it is Ruinez).
* PetTheDog: Believe it or not, in the earliest stories, he was genuinely rewarding Mortadelo and Filemon when they succeed (albeit quite painfully) their mission. Unfortunately, said reward was linked to a series of AmusingInjuries received by Mortadelo, Filemon or both during said mission (Ex: whisky with ices cubes after going to the North Pole) and they retaliate by beating the crap out the Super. Take ''La caja de los diez cerrojos'' as an example of this RunningGag.
* PointyHairedBoss: Downplayed. He is not an example of competence, but he compares favorably to the title agents, and it is implied he is overall a good executive when he does not have to directly treat subordinates.

* TheScrooge : He has a [[HairTriggerTemper lot]] [[ItsAllAboutMe of]] [[BadBoss flaws]] but he is exceptionally stingy and barely pays his subordinates. Mortadelo and Filemon will always have to use an antiquated vehicle or weapon and it will be completely useless on their mission : even worse, it is ''heavily'' implied that the Super is embezzling the TIA money for himself.

* BadassBeard: Has a big, bushy black beard that covers his mouth except when widely grinning. It gets invariable burned off or grabbed.

* ButtMonkey: He is constantly beaten up by Mortadelo and Filemon and sometimes the Super and Ofelia when become victims of his last inventions, something which happens all the time

* MadScientist: Mortadelo considers him one, and it is not inaccurate given that Bacterio checks many of the points (he builds things without blueprints, uses obviously forced experiment subjects, does self-experimentation, is a bit of a sadist, etc). However, he works for the good guys and has never shown to be anything other than a dutiful government agent.

* TheProfessor: A half parody of the trope.

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: He and Mortadelo hate each other, as Bacterio made him lose all his hair and Mortadelo often tries to get revenge for it, but are forced to work together.

%%* SassySecretary: Though mostly towards Mortadelo.

* BlondesAreEvil: Downplayed. She was not evil, but could get quite mean.

* {{Foil}}: He was a blonde secretary, just like Ofelia, but unlike her, Irma was thoroughly sexy and had Mortadelo and Filemón chasing her. They had a bitter enmity as a result.

* AscendedExtra: He's pretty much a regular character in the AnimatedAdaptation, as opposed to his use as secondary in the comics, from which he was long gone by the time the animated series premiered. This is a stark contrast to every other adaptation from the comic, in which he isn't featured at all.

* PutOnABus: Subverted. He was mentioned to have been fired by the Supervisor in a chapter, although by the next he seemed to be in the organization again.

* AmbiguousSituation: His portrayal as a bespectacled, mustachioed gentleman only became solid in 1991. Before that, the TIA chairman had a different design in every appearance. It is unknown if this means they were different people in the job or just a huge case of EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference.
* BadassMustache: White and two-pointed.

* InformedAttribute: Some chapters state he is from the Canary Islands, mostly to make some pun at it behind his back. However, this is a pretty random piece of info that is never shown on page; the Chairman doesn't even resemble any humorous stereotype of Canarian people as it could be natural to expect.
