Khonshu is one of the Gods of Celestial Heliopolis, worshiped by the ancient Egyptians. In ancient times, Khonshu served as the God of the Moon, making him the guardian of night travelers. However, he also served a much more sinister role, as the God of Vengeance. The dueling nature of these titles, like the phases of the moon themselves, means Khonshu's [[BlueAndOrangeMorality motives]] are constantly shifting. When Marc Spector laid down before the Statue of Khonshu, he was seemingly revived by the long forgotten god, and was reborn as his avatar on Earth.

Whether or not the Khonshu Marc interacts with is the real thing is a [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane hotly debated issue]]. At times Marc has been (seemingly) granted supernatural powers based on the phases of the moon thanks to the Moon God, but these abilities were very unpredictable and haven't manifested in years. Due to Marc's mental states, it is believed by many, including Marc at times, that the Khonshu he see's is only another aspect of his fractured psyche. Whatever the case, Khonshu has served as both [[TricksterMentor inhibiter and enabler]] to Marc's double life.

Jean-Paul "Frenchie" Du Champ was a French pilot who became a soldier of fortune in Africa where he met and befriended fellow mercenary Marc Spector. After becoming Moon Knight, Spector contacted Frenchie and hired him on as the pilot of the Moon Copter. Frenchie would end up working in close tandem with Moon Knight on missions for many years, serving as his de facto partner for many adventures. In their time together, Frenchie had developed feelings for his old friend, something which Marc was completely oblivious to.

As the years went on, Frenchie became more disillusioned with the adventuring lifestyle, and with his friend Marc Spector as well. After loosing his legs on a mission, Frenchie retired from the adventuring business for good and opened a restaurant, where he met his future husband and personal trainer Rob Silverman.

[[quoteright:254:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1503605_marlene_01_1.jpg]]

Marlene Alraune was the daughter of Doctor Peter Alraune, Sr., a noted archaeologist. At an early age she married Eric Jules Fontaine, but their marriage lasted only a brief time. She joined her father on an archeological dig in the Sudan where they discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Seti III, which housed the statue of Khonshu. Their site was discovered and ransacked by Raoul Bushman and his mercenaries, one of whom was Marc Spector, who tried to defend the archeologists.

Her father killed in the struggle, Marlene brought Marc to the foot of the statue of Khonshu in desperation, where he was miraculously healed. After defeating Bushman in a rematch, Marc brought Marlene back to America where she became his trusted confidant. Falling somewhat in love with Spector, Marlene served as one of Moon Knight's agents, training in martial arts and other techniques to become a capable spy.

Marlene was always worried about Marc losing track of himself in his different personas, and encouraged him to seek help about them. After a string of fights, Marlene gave Marc an ultimatum: her or Moon Knight. He chose Moon Knight, and she left him. Years later, after becoming a social worker, Marlene checked in on Marc only to discover him a crippled wreck, prompting her to return in order to help him get well again.

Ray and his brother made good money working for Moon Knight, and enjoyed the adventure and excitement working for him brought, despite their mother's frequent objections. After a number of close call's, however, it became clear to Moon Knight that his line of work was too dangerous for children, and he relieved Ray from duty.

After Moon Knight briefly retired, Ray joined the Armed Forces with his brother, serving a tour in Afghanistan. Returning from duty, Ray was contacted by Moon Knight again, this time to serve as the new pilot of the Moon Copter. He accepted, but the team-up proved to be contentious as Ray felt he wasn't getting the same level of respect as Moon Knights previous partner, Frenchie. -->'''Moon Knight:''' ''Let me tell you a thing about Black Spectre. He really just wanted to be loved. He wanted his dad and his wife to love him. Wanted his crew to love him. Wanted the whole city to love him.''

Carson Knowles, a Vietnam War veteran whose father was a politician, upon returning to New York discovered that his wife left him and his son was killed. He couldn't get a job and decided to get revenge on the city since they turned his back on him when he needed it most. Inspired by Moon Knight, Knowles became the Black Spectre, a master criminal.
----
* BadassNormal: A rather well trained war veteran, who has been able to overpower Marc in hand to hand combat.
* BlackKnight: His armour is definitely meant to evoke this.
* EvilCounterpart: Ryan Trent describes him as trying to be the opposite of Moon Knight.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: All he ever wanted was for his family, the city, and even his own mooks to love him.
* MindRape: His last big plan, wanting to use nanotech devices to take control of a massive rally of people.
* RageBreakingPoint: Between people on the street viewing him as a butcher, his wife and son leaving him, the death of his son, and then having his car stolen... the thing that really pushes Carson over the edge is someone trying to mug him, which sends him into a bloody rage.
* WorthyOpponent: Heavily implied when Moon Knight describes Knowles' [[IJustWantToBeLoved motivation]] in near-perfect detail while aloofly telling the second Black Spectre that he [[UnknownRival doesn't know who he is]].

-->''"This isn't going to be a fight. I'm just going to kill you. I'm better than you. I deserve to be you. And now I'm going to show you why I deserve to be loved more than you."''

Since he was a kid, Ryan Trent was constantly undermined, having his decisions throuhout his life continously questioned. Even after he joined the NYPD, he didn't feel he was good enough. When Moon Knight returned to New York City as a consultant for Detective Flint, Flint's preference over the vigilante caused Trent to finally break, and slowly descend into madness as he became obsessed with Moon Knight. Seeing himself as "better" than Moon Knight, he began studying Moon Knight by contacting his friends and allies, all of whom had distanced themselves from him. To make himself more of a loner like Moon knight, Trent murdered his wife and, feeling like he was now properly prepared, set out to confront his foe.
----
* BeardOfEvil: Grows one as he trained to become the new Black Spectre.
* ChekhovsGunman: Trent turns out to have been one of the cops that appeared in the first issue of Warren Ellis's run.
* CurbStompBattle: Actually managed to have Moon Knight at his mercy, only for his attack plan to literally blow up in his face.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: An eight-panel page showcases Trent being criticized for his decisions and behavior all his life, culminating in him telling himself that he'll never be good enough.
* EvilCounterpart: Specifically, to the Mr. Knight persona, whose outfit Trent directly emulates.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Averted. Starting off as a faceless cop among the many under Detective Flint's command, Trent built himself up to be a superior replacement for Moon Knight. Along with some [[HiddenDepths surprisingly successful detective skills]], Trent ended up being more than a match for Moon Knight when he went to attack him, managing to [[CurbStompBattle destroy his limo, his drone, disarm him, and hold him at gunpoint]]. His carelessness ended up being his undoing and he wound up injured and at Moon Knight's mercy, completely railroading any future success he might've had as the new Black Spectre.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: He wants to be a "better" Moon Knight by being more loved than him. Unfortunately, as Moon Knight himself points out, [[HeroWithBadPublicity he actually works better because nobody loves him]], so he's probably missing the point.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: Trent had spent nearly his whole life practically on auto-pilot. Nearly everyone in his life had criticized him for his questionable decisions, such as being a cop instead of joining the military. Inspired by Moon Knight, he prepares a plan to murder him and replace him, hoping to be promoted to Detective and gain the respect of Flint.
* IWorkAlone: Knowing that Moon Knight, too, works alone, Trent decides to rid himself of any relationship. This includes killing his own wife.
* UnknownRival: Trent's lack of relevance would've actually benefited him as Moon Knight had no idea who he was nor who he was supposed to be dressed as.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He completely vanishes from the face of the Earth after his attempt at Moon Knight's life and is never mentioned again.

-->''"I have many names, Marc Spector, but you can call me the Bushman."''

If you asked to see the worst that humanity had to offer, Marc Spector would tell you to look no further than Raoul Bushman. Moon Knight's de facto arch nemesis, the two have bad blood going back a long ways.

Nothing is know of Bushman's early life, but by the time Marc had met him he was already the leader of the most feared group of mercenaries in the whole of Sudan. Bushman committed every kind of atrocity; murder, political assassination, grave robbing, rape, even slavery, all for the sake of the wealth and power it brought him. As a reflection of his black heart, he tattooed his face in the likeness of a skull, and replaced his teeth with fangs to strike fear into the hearts of enemies and allies alike. When Marc tried to leave his war party in protest over their attack on an archeological dig by the Alraune's, Bushman mortally wounded him and left him to die in the desert.

After becoming Moon Knight, Marc would end up clashing with Bushman again and again, their repeated skirmishes turning into an out-an-out blood feud which only one of them could survive. Eventually, that final battle did come, which ended with Moon Knight killing Bushman by carving off his face, but at the cost of his own legs.

The Committee was a secret criminal-cabal of businessmen based out of Los Angeles. Originally making enemies of Jack Russell, they hired Marc Spector to hunt down and defeat the Werewolf. The Committee provided Spector with an early prototype of his Moon Knight suit, which he would later modify for use in his superhero career. Siding with Jack, Spector betrayed the Committee, becoming their longstanding enemy as well. The organization would send many assassins after Moon Knight over the years, before the group was eventually brought down.

Years past, and a new Committee formed from the ashes of the old one, this time hellbent on putting an end to their old enemies. They manipulated events which lead to Marc Spector becoming crippled and ostracizing himself, leaving him in a pit of alcoholism and despair. Deciding that it was time to strike the finishing blow, they sent Taskmaster to kill Spector and his loved ones. This did not have the intended effect, instead revitalizing Spector to become the Moon Knight again, who made quick work of the new Committee, crashing a jet plane into their offices whilst they were inside. While several of their members did survive, the message was clear, and the Committee took the hit off Spector.

Randall Spector was the often overlooked brother of Marc Spector. As a child, Randall often felt under appreciated next to his brother, who received much more attention from their rabbi father. The two boys would often play war together, something Randall didn't like very much because he always lost. This angered him greatly, and their father put a stop to it as he began noticing violent tendencies emerging in Randall. As he grew older, he felt as if his life was building up towards a greater purpose that would be revealed to him eventually. He married and had a daughter before joining the army.

He managed to excel in the military, something he took great pride in, until he was critically wounded in battle. His death was considered an accident and she was sent to live with her uncle and aunt, where her living-conditions were improved. Later in life, she met and married Vince Fasinera, a small-time criminal, believing that she could save him from himself. She was wrong, and he simply mistreated her, much like her father had. The Profile is able to observe someone and reduce them to data in his mind. With that data, he can reconstruct their past in minute detail, determine character traits, as well as predict their future actions accurately (beyond the ninetieth percentile). This manifests either as pictures scrawled around the person he is "profiling", or words floating around them which describe the person's personality. The Profiles ability works on human and superhuman alike. However, the Profile appears to not be immune to his own power, nor do his powers work on extra-dimensional beings (like Khonshu), something which has been exploited by Moon Knight on a number of occasions.

The Templar Knights started abusing their powers by killing the lesser Hellbent and locking the pure one's in a cave, preventing them from diluting their blood. Jeff Wilde was the son of Anton Mogart, the Midnight Man. When he was sixteen, Jeff tracked his father down, only to find him dying of cancer. In his last days, Mogart recounted his stories and techniques to Jeff, though begged him not to use these secrets on the wrong side of the law. Honouring his father's dying wish, he took the mantle of Midnight and joined Moon Knight to atone for his father's wrongdoings. He appointed himself Moon Knights sidekick, though Spector was reluctant.

His heroic career was short lived, as he was captured by the Secret Empire and turned into a cyborg and sent against Moon Knight and other heroes, where he was defeated and left for dead. He had actually survived, and thinking himself Moon Knights partner, awaited contact from the hero. Years went by, and what remained of his body and his sanity began to deteriorate. Infuriated by Moon Knight's abandonment of him, he set out to enact his revenge on the hero, along with a fellow cyborg Lynn Church.

-->''"Useless? I think you've mistaken me for someone else. You see, I have great purpose."''

During his hospital stay he attacked a nurse and was discharged, losing his health care and pension in the process, resulting in his wife leaving him and him unable to find work. Feeling like he had been cheated out of everything in life by the incident, he began stalking and murdering nurses in Central Park, which brought him into direct confrontation with Moon Knight, his own brother. During the ensuing struggle, Moon Knight seemingly killed him.

However, [[ComicbookDeath as is the case in comics]], he reappeared years later, this time with a new target for his vengeance; his brother, Marc Spector. As the brother of Moon Knight he has been lead to believe that he has a similar connection with Khonshu, something which has been exploited by multiple people over the years. In this new form, he becomes the Shadow Knight, and seeks to depose Marc Spector and take his place as the Fist of Khonshu.

-->''"He was with me. Beside me. As he's been with me for so long: the sun behind that casts my shadow ahead. We're bound at the soul, he and I. I breathe, he exhales."''

Abused by her father, Scarlet had an unhappy childhood. One evening when she had had enough of it, she secretly killed her own father, by lighting his bed with a cigarette. His death was considered an accident and she was sent to live with her uncle and aunt, where her living-conditions were improved. Later in life, she met and married Vince Fasinera, a small-time criminal, believing that she could save him from himself. She was wrong, and he simply mistreated her, much like her father had. Despite this, they had a child together, though Vince wanted nothing to do with it. Vince later died, gunned down on the steps of a church, and their son turned to a life of crime himself.

When he escaped prison, Scarlet took it upon herself to save her son from his life of crime, but in the end was forced to kill him. Scarlet turned vigilante and started hunting down all the criminals who had ever had a hand in turning her son to a life of crime. She and Moon Knight came into conflict but, both recognizing a kindred spirit in the other, went their separate ways. Later, Scarlet seemed to develop a psychic link to Moon Knight. As she fought with her own mental demons, she came into conflict with Moon Knight again. Throwing herself from a bridge, she was presumed dead, though no body was ever found...
