* {{BFS}}: Downplayed. As part of its MidSeasonUpgrade from Teiwaz's engineers, his Barbatos gets an odachi almost as tall as the suit itself... but compared to the gigantic mace that was its previous melee weapon of choice, it looks positively delicate. Played straight with the Lupus's Sword-Mace.

Played straight with the The Lupus's Sword-Mace.'sword mace' is a more conventional example, essentially a massive bar of metal with an edge, a point, and a handle that's as much bludgeon as blade.

** The 170mm {{Arm Cannon}}s on the Barbatos's fifth and sixth forms are a bit of a downgrade in firepower from the 300mm behemoth that previously served as its main ranged option, and lack its long-ranged accuracy, too. On the other hand, they're a way to knock an enemy suit off-balance while keeping the Gundam's hands free, and that's a real asset in close-quarters combat.

By the time that the Barbatos has been remodelled into the Lupus for Season Two, though, the arm-guns have been upgraded in firepower enough to become primary weapons that make the Gundam a genuine threat at range.

* LightningBruiser: The seventy-two Gundams of the Calamity War were distinguished by their twin reactors, giving them enormous strength and speed, and the Barbatos is jury-rigged with a Mobile Worker's Alaya-Vijnana system, giving it human-like reflexes. The combination makes Mikazuki a deadly foe indeed.

Added DiffLines:

* MasterSwordsman: He's pretty much the opposite of this for most of the first season, with the Barbatos's odachi being his least favourite and worst-understood weapon. He finally figures it out in the finale, though, and once Season Two rolls around and he gets a sword better suited to his preferences, the results are spectacular, elevating him to amongst the finest swordsmen in the solar system despite how huge and unwieldy his weapon is.
* MoreDakka: The Lupus's revised ArmCannon set are 200mm monsters with a blistering rate of fire, particularly by the standards of a show where most suit-sized guns are relatively slow-firing semi-automatics, and can effectively paralyse enemy suits with the constant stream of massive impacts they dish out.

* ShearMenace: The Gusion Rebake Full City has can transform its shield into a pair of Scissors blunt-edged pliers that it can use to squeeze mobile suits in half, or alternatively swing and stab with like a crude (but very large) sword.
* ShieldBash: The Rebake's shield is an enormous slab of metal that used to be the backplate of the original Gusion. As a result, it makes a perfectly decent secondary melee weapon - when we
cut mobile-suits to Akihiro after his OffscreenMomentOfAwesome in half.the Season One finale, it appears that he's managed to shove the shield into the ground through [[HalfTheManBeUsedToBe what used to be the waist of a Graze]]. Come Season Two, the Rebake Full City takes this to its logical conclusion by incorporating a shield that can turn into a weapon.

* PluckyGirl: Despite (or perhaps because of) her brutal, dirt-poor upbringing, there's a will of steel under that sweet, delicate exterior. Perhaps the best example is when she subjects herself to an extended session of the JackBauerInterrogationTechnique

The leader
of the Third Group, CGS group referred to as "human debris", made up of boys who specializes ended up in hand-to-hand combat CGS as well as piloting.a result of [[MadeASlave human trafficking]]. Gruff and distant, he nonetheless tends to lead from the front, even in dangerous circumstances. Pilots a Graze, and later the Gusion Rebake.

* BloodFromTheMouth: [[spoiler: After Ein nearly kills him he's seen bleeding from the mouth, ears, nose, and forehead. He survives.]]
* BoisterousBruiser: Big, friendly, and trained at hitting people.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He has NoIndoorVoice and gives his Graze-Custom II (and his Shiden Custom) the strange nickname of Ryusei-Go and a shark grin paint job (also naming his combat unit in season 2 the Ryusei unit) but he's still a very skilled pilot.
* DesecratingTheDead: Completely unintentional, but [[spoiler: Ein takes Shino piloting the EB-06 Graze and spray painting it Hot Pink as a final insult to the deceased Crank.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Ep. 14 has him going through the arduous process of having his Alaya-Vijnana system synced to prepare for mecha usage and combat. It's possible he's become TheAtoner.
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler: Shown to have survived, albeit badly injured and bleeding, from Ein's crazed killing spree in Episode 25.]]
* DrillSergeantNasty: Takes on this role for the new recruits in season two, stating he'd feel awful if they died because he didn't push them hard enough to be better.
* DumbMuscle: Definitely not the smartest guy in Tekkadan. He misinterprets Tekkadan's new symbol (a stylized flower) as a ''fish'', and then proceeds to get into a shouting match with the guy who designed it.
* {{Expy}}: Curiously, because of his salmon-pink Ryusei-Go--plus his own admission that he's far more comfortable as a pilot following orders than he is as a leader--he basically steals from [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Char Aznable's color preference]] and his more positive characterization as [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Quattro Bajeena]].
* GunsAkimbo: Subverted. He normally uses the standard SwordAndGun loadout of the franchise (well, axe and gun in his case), but when the Montag Corporation provides Tekkadan with a huge number of extra weapons, he takes the Ryusei-Go into battle with a Graze rifle in each hand... and gets one of them destroyed before he can even consider using it.
* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: He's constantly talking about how much he loves women, which makes poor Yamagi's crush on him all the more awkward.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: He doesn't realize a lot of things he says aren't right for the mood.
* NiceGuy: Described as cheerful, and his concept art has him showing off a friendly wink and a smile.
* NoIndoorVoice: He's the archetypal BoisterousBruiser, and having zero volume control is just part of the package. Even his ''whispering'' is a dozen or so decibels too loud.
* ObliviousToLove: He has no idea Yamagi has a crush on him, which leads to some rather awkward moments between the two.
* RealMenWearPink: According to the Word of God Shino's love for pink extends onto every piece of weaponry and personal belonging eligible for customization, including two of his Mobile Suits, Mobile Worker, an assault helmet, and more. All of which are also named "Ryusei-Go."
* RedOniBlueOni: Among Tekkadan's MS pilots, he's the Red to both Mikazuki's and Akihiro's Blue.
* SurvivorsGuilt: He suffers from this in episode 13, as he blames his underestimating the Brewers's Human Debris child soldiers on the deaths of many of his comrades.
* TookALevelInBadass: A double example. The haul of loot Tekkadan gets from their battle with the Brewers results in him being promoted to a pilot (because Akihiro now had a shiny new suit, leaving the Graze Custom unoccupied), and simultaneously led to the Graze Custom itself being upgraded into the far deadlier Ryusei-Go.
* UnexpectedCharacter: No one would have guessed that Shino would be Tekkadan's third Mobile Suit pilot from seeing him at the beginning of the series.
* WhatAPieceOfJunk: Being refitted into the Ryusei-Go, his new ride, finally upgrades the Graze Custom from TheAllegedCar to this. It's still a crude, ugly bodge-job of a suit, it still has the same armaments, and the loud red paint-scheme doesn't help its enemies take it seriously, but it's gone from barely functional to genuinely lethal, and the reasons why are all under the hood. It's been fitted with a looted Alaya-Vijnana system, giving it the same human-like agility as the Barbatos, and Teiwaz's engineers have enhanced its performance and durability enough to keep up with the new control scheme. It's not a match for a Gundam, but the Ryusei-Go can give just about anything else in the solar system a serious run for its money.

Once Tekkadan finally arrives on Earth, it's upgraded to something even more nightmarish - a giant club that can fold out into a chainsaw-toothed pincer, letting it literally bite through enemy suits. ** Mikazuki, surprisingly, also borrows a few things from the AntiHero [[LightNovel/FateZero Kiritsugu Emiya]]: to wit, he has TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior, is very comfortable with guns, lacks ability to empathize with anybody except those who think like him, has a good relationship with a white-haired girl[[note]]Atra, counterpart to Irisviel[[/note]] and a cold (so far) relationship with a blonde girl who he thinks is too idealistic for their own good[[note]]Kudelia, counterpart to Saber[[/note]]. That he works quite well with Orga (who is himself a visual {{Expy}} from the {{Franchise/Nasuverse}} as noted below) is hilariously remarkable on its own.

** Orga's physique and characterization also lets him serve as a dead ringer for Archer/[[spoiler:the Heroic Spirit EMIYA]] from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight''. While not having the same fatalistic cynicism as Archer, Orga favors outmaneuvering his enemies even when seemingly outmatched, much like Archer does. [[folder:Tekkadan as a whole]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tekkadan.JPG]]
The protagonists of the story and the eponymous iron-blooded orphans. A collection of kids taken off the streets of Mars and forced into combat, most of them have never known any other life. They're beaten and abused by the adults of CGS, and treated as disposable, despite actually being better soldiers and more skilled pilots than their superiors. Things finally go too far when CGS comes under attack by Gjallarhorn, and the adults use the Third Group to HoldTheLine while they steal everything not nailed down and flee the scene. Against all odds, the Third Group actually defeats the attack (allowing the adults to return), but the incident provides the push they need to plan open rebellion.
----
* AccidentalHero: Tekkadan's repeated victories against Gjallarhorn causes them to be viewed as heroes against tyranny by those whom Gjallarhorn oppresses [[spoiler:to the point that Tekkadan's actions inspire working class colonists to instigate an armed rebellion against Gjhallarhorn]]. However, Tekkadan only fought against Gjallarhorn for their survival and to complete their job to get Kudelia safely to Earth. As such, they are very perplexed when strangers start singing their praises.
** [[spoiler:Then it turns out [=McGillis=] did this on purpose, to paint them as heroes.]]
* BandOfBrothers: Most of them have no one besides each other, and they've formed the sort of close bond you'd expect in that situation.
* BrainComputerInterface: The Third Group's pilots have the Ālaya-Vijñāna system, a cybernetic implant in their spine that uses {{nanomachines}} (among other things) to connect directly to their mecha. It makes them more effective in mobile workers, and is outright ''required'' in order to pilot a Gundam.
* ChildSoldiers: None of them are adults, though they range in age from "preadolescent" to "late teens".
* CrazyPrepared: In their second encounter against Carta Issue, Tekkadan battle them by using pre-planted explosives against them, trapping the Gjallarhorn at a sea shore house and blows up the bridge and house, and casually blows up a Graze with land mine.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Upon arriving on Earth, Tekkadan is presented with seafood for the first time. Most of its members have no idea what to make of the fish staring them in the face and are shocked that that sort of thing is considered food on Earth.
* FamedInStory: As the series goes on, they become famous for being powerful enough to defeat Gjallarhorn. [[spoiler:By season two, nearly everyone knows about them and they are seen as celebrities on Mars.]]
* ItsPersonal: [[spoiler:After Biscuit's death in the hands of Carta Issue]], Orga declared that they will crush Gjallarhorn and destroy anyone who gets the way.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiUxW8uyRXc Iron Blooded Orphans]]", "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddwWQsGLrDQ Surface of the Iron Blooded Orphans]]"
* MeaningfulRename: After their coup, Orga renames the company Tekkadan, iron-flowers that never wilt
* {{Nanomachines}}: Involved in the Ālaya-Vijñāna system that lets them interface with their mecha.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: While they're were just trying to survive and become successful, [[spoiler:their victory in season 1 not only damaged the power balance but showed the value of child soldiers leading to more child soldiers and human debris.]]
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: As members of CGS.
* RagTagBunchOfMisfits: The dregs of Martian society, literally taken off the streets and forced into combat. That doesn't keep them from being better at their jobs than the rest of CGS.
* RedIsHeroic: Befitting the name of the show, they're strongly tied with the colour red, with most of the major characters having some small association with it. Examples include Orga's scarf, Kudelia's hair ribbon and dress, and the Human Debris characters' uniform stripes.
* RefugeInAudacity: As Tekkadan is regularly going up against opponents who outgun them, their plans are unconventional to say the least. Examples include:
** The first engagement with the Turbines. With Mika and Akihiro on the ropes, Orga leads a boarding party to storm the ''Hammerhead'', and seize the bridge.
** Episode 21. Trapped on an island in the Pacific Ocean with no way out, Tekkadan deliberately leaves an inviting beach unguarded to allow Gjallarhorn forces to land there, lures them into a trap, and then ''hijack their landing craft to make their escape.''
* StrappedToAnOperatingTable: Implanting the Ālaya-Vijñāna system can only be done to children whose bodies haven't finished growing yet. CGS doesn't bother asking new Third Group recruits whether they want to undergo the procedure or not. They also don't bother with anesthetics and it has a 40% chance of failure.
* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: The biggest threat to the Third Group isn't the enemies they fight, it's the rest of CGS. They plan accordingly.
* UnwittingPawn: Tekkadan, being a small, fairly desperate group with little political influence and no knowledge of what's going on behind closed doors at the highest levels of power, has been subject to this. In particular, [[spoiler:Nobliss has been using Tekkadan (and Kudelia) to foster revolutionary sentiment among disaffected workers. This reaches a head when they arrive in the Earth Sphere and unknowingly deliver weapons to such a group, prompting them to stage an armed demonstration in an attempt to force management into negotiations]].
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Since the Third Group's pilots use the Ālaya-Vijñāna system implanted in their spines to help them pilot their mecha, they would go into combat shirtless. Once they head into space, however, they get proper suits with an interface on the back that lets them use their implants without having to fight half naked.
* WouldHitAGirl: The Third Group wouldn't question about hitting women as long as it gets the job done. During the encounter with Turbines, they see the fight as a challenge to prove their worths and negotiate with Naze. [[spoiler: And in the ensuring battle against Carta Issue, it is a revenge for their fallen allies.]]

[[folder:Mikazuki Augus]]
!!!Voiced by: Kengo Kawanishi (Japanese), Creator/KyleMcCarley (English)
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gundam_ibo_tekkadan_mikazuki_augus6.png]]
-> '''Main mecha''': TK-53 CGS Mobile Worker (white), ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus

A young orphan and a member of CGS's Third Group, Mikazuki is the protagonist of ''Iron-Blooded Orphans''. The Third Group's best pilot and Orga's right-hand man, he ends up piloting Gundam Barbatos -- previously used by the CGS as a [[MundaneUtility power source]] -- in order to counter Gjallarhorn's attack on CGS. Rather stunted both emotionally and socially, he does whatever Orga asks him to without question, trusting him utterly. Utterly ruthless both in and out of combat, he's equally calm about killing his enemies in the heat of battle or in cold blood, but threatening people he cares about is a good way to [[BerserkButton piss him off]]. He doesn't enjoy fighting or killing for its own sake, however, expressing an interest in leaving the battlefield and [[CallToAgriculture becoming a farmer]] once he's done fighting for a living.
----
* AcePilot: He's the best pilot in the Third Group, which is why Orga taps him for the job of piloting the Barbatos. Like most Gundam protagonists, he's a classic Steamroller, focusing on taking down his enemies with maximum speed and aggression.
* AffectionateNickname: Mika.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Obviously an effect of his experiences as a ChildSoldier, he's both incredibly indifferent to most of what goes on around him and [[SociopathicHero prone to sudden violent outbursts]] if you ''do'' manage to get to him. He also seems to outsource all of his moral thinking to Orga, making him look positively psychopathic at times. He'll gun down helpless prisoners and wounded enemy combatants without breaking his usual blandly calm demeanor, as long as it's under Orga's orders.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:Suffers a downplayed version by losing the use of his right arm and eye in the battle at the end of Season 1, though they are still attached to him. Now he says he can only use them while connected to Barbatos.]]
* AnimalMotifs: The new Barbatos "biting" mace vaguely resembles the head of a TyrannosaurusRex, which is rather appropriate given the Gundams' origins.
* AntiHero: He's willing to get his hands dirty and won't hesitate to kill people right away regardless if you're defenseless. In his mind, if you're in Orga's way, get out or die.
* ArmCannon: The Barbatos's 'fifth form', designed to counter the Kimaris, is fitted with a pair of two-shot rocket launchers beneath its forearms. When it reaches Earth, these are replaced with a pair of short-barrelled 170mm cannons, finally giving the Gundam a ranged option that doesn't compromise Mikazuki's CloseRangeCombatant fighting style.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Mika is one of few words, but nice to those he consider friends. He also doesn't hesitate to kill on Orga's command.
* {{BFG}}: In a sharp contrast to most mobile suit guns, which are designed for mowing down tanks and infantry because of the difficulty in getting through larger targets' tough nanolaminate armour, the Barbatos's primary ranged weapon is a gigantic, suit-killing howitzer. It's still not immensely effective, but you really don't want to be on the receiving end of [[NoRangeLikePointBlankRange a point-blank shot from it]], as one unlucky pilot found out the hard way.
Played Straight with Lupus' Sword-Mace
* BigEater: One thing he has in common with most Tekkadan kids, which might be justified by the [[BadBoss CGS adults]] starving them on occasion. One major difference is his ability to seemingly [[PintsizedPowerhouse metabolize it all directly into strength.]]
* BiggerIsBetter: His Barbatos's twin reactors make it strong enough to effortlessly wield weapons that are huge even by mobile suit standards, and Tekkadan's engineers are only too happy to provide them.
* BiggerStick: It's normal for a Gundam protagonist's suit to be one of the most powerful in the setting, usually as a way to offset the inexperience you'd expect from a KidHero, and the Barbatos is no exception, even if it is somewhat in need of maintenance at first. Mika, meanwhile, is part of that rare and fearsome subset who ''also'' know how to wield their BiggerStick with deadly effect, making him one of the most dangerous people in the solar system almost from day one.
* BigBrotherWorship: For Orga, despite the two not being related by blood.
* BigDamnHeroes: Three times in the series at least: episode 1, 8 & 24.
* BigOlEyebrows: He's got rather thicker and wider eyebrows than the rest of the cast.
* BloodKnight: Kudal accuses him of enjoying killing people, an accusation that greatly disturbs Mika.
* BrainComputerInterface: Like all the primary combatants of the Third Group, Mikazuki has the Ālaya-Vijñāna system to directly link him to the machines he pilots. ''Unlike'' the rest of the Third Group, the link to the Barbatos is ''required'' to operate it, rather than just enhancing his skill with it. It uploads data directly to his mind, including giving him a first person view of what the Gundam sees.
* BrutalHonesty: As long as you're not his enemy he a pretty nice fellow, but he's not one for social tact -- often very blunt and straight-to-the point when he has to say something.
* BondOneLiner: "Shut up, I can't hear Orga's words."
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: In episode 25, Ein is raging at Mikazuki for killing [[StarterVillain Lieutenant Crank]], an event which Ein is obsessed with avenging by killing Mikazuki and the rest of Tekkadan, and even led him to [[spoiler: allow himself to be wired into the Graze Ein to do it]]. Mikazuki's response is "Who the hell is Lieutenant Crank?" Ein is ''not'' pleased by this.
** Technically Mikazuki knows who Crank was, he just forgot the details, it takes a while for him to remember that Crank was the old man he [[MercyKill Mercy Killed]] at CGS base.
* CallToAgriculture: One of the first indications that there's more to him than being an emotionless killing machine is when he says that he'd like to become a farmer someday. He's quite happy to help Biscuit's family work on ''their'' farm in the meantime.
* CarryABigStick: When they first start to use it, Gundam Barbatos' primary weapon is an enormous (even by mecha standards) flanged mace. Once Tekkadan finally arrives on Earth, it's upgraded to something even more nightmarish - a giant club that can fold out into a chainsaw-toothed pincer, letting it literally bite through enemy suits.
* ChainsawGood: The Barbatos's sixth form has one of these as its main weapon - a strange, fearsome-looking club-claw with a chainsaw serving as the 'teeth' of its 'jaws'.
* ChickMagnet: he has Kudelia and Atra constantly fawning over him.
* ChildhoodFriends: With both Orga and Atra.
* ChildrenForcedToKill: It hasn't been expanded on - yet - but some brief flashbacks imply this about his early life.
* ChildSoldier: His exact age isn't clear, but he seems to be on the young side (even by the Third Group's standards) for a combat pilot, despite his skill.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Guns are largely useless against the nanolaminate armour used by anything big enough to mount an Ahab Reactor (so, ships and mobile suits), which means most suits carry them to deal with smaller targets like shuttles, tanks, and infantry. Since Tekkadan uses Mikazuki as their dedicated mobile suit killer, that's not a concern - his job is to close with enemy suits as fast as possible and rip them apart, and he often doesn't go into battle with any ranged weapons at all, even when they're readily available.
* CombatPragmatist: He fights to ''win'', with no qualms about "dirty" tactics like sneak-attacking from ambush, using enemy units as shields, and using clouds of dust or smoke to blind opponents.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: With no other family, he's fiercely loyal to Tekkadan.
* CooldownHug: Gives one in episode 18 to ''both'' Kudelia (upon Atra's persuasion) ''and'' Atra (upon noticing that she was crying as well). Ends up at the receiving end of this with a double head pat from ''both of them'' in the season finale, though the positioning tends to lean more over ALadyOnEachArm.
* CreepyChild: There are times when he seems to be... rather off, even by the standards of Gundam ChildSoldier protagonists. The most unsettling thing about him is the fact that, with very few exceptions, he remains [[TheStoic calm and emotionless]] at all times.
* DealWithTheDevil: With Barbatos, surprisingly. [[spoiler:Barbatos is mentioned as an ambiguously sentient machine, but during the final episode, Mika asked for extra power to take on the Graze Ein, and he got it at the cost of his right arm and right eye while not in Barbatos. Considering the name is taken from ''Literature/ArsGoetia'', you can easily see it as Mika sacrificing his arm and eye to summon a demon who then helped him defeat his enemy while becoming more dependent on it.]]
* DontYouDarePityMe: He doesn't consider himself to be a victim and finds Crank's [[WouldNotHurtAChild reluctance to kill him]] to be ridiculous.
* DoubleTap: A habit of his when he's shooting things on foot, though he hasn't shown the same tendency in his Gundam.
* DynamicEntry: Thanks to [[CombatPragmatist his willingness to immediately go for kill-shots]], if Mika's required to make a dramatic entrance, it ''will'' involve someone dying messily, and he makes quite a lot of dramatic entrances.
* EmergencyWeapon: A couple of them:
** He never really gets used to the sword that Teiwaz give him as part of the Barbatos's MidSeasonUpgrade, and tends to use it as a last resort if he happens to lose his mace or smoothbore cannon. After yielding to the suit-munching temptations of the Montag Corporation's wrench mace, he never looks back. [[spoiler: However, when the wrench mace is broken, Mika uses the sword to impale Ein.]]
* {{Expy}}:
** To [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Setsuna F. Seiei]] as the cold professional with a high level of training at an ImprobableAge, who is also an emotionally-stunted ChildSoldier who shows somewhat of an obsession with his Gundam and doesn't seem to be good with people. Mika and Setsuna even look a bit similar. However, unlike Setsuna, from the get go Mika is far warmer to his comrades. [[spoiler: And much harsher and vengeful to his enemies should they kill any of Tekkadan members.]]
** In the second season, he has parallels with Guts after he's acquired the Berserker Armor. While Mikazuki's in ''Barbatos Lupus,'' he regains the sight in his right eye, as well as regaining control of his right arm, similar to how the Berserker Armor grants Guts use of his left arm. Not only that, Barbatos Lupus wields a rather large club/sword as a weapon, similar to Guts' own Dragonslayer. And the "Lupus" is significant, as Guts is associated with canines and wolves.
* FirstKiss: [[spoiler: He kisses Kudelia in the lips after receiving a brief CooldownHug from her in episode 13.]]
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: He grabs Orga by the neck to break him out of his HeroicBSOD.
* GoodLuckCharm: Atra gives him a good luck bracelet matching her own. He occasionally smells it in times of stress, presumably because [[SignatureScent it reminds him of Atra]].
* HandHidingSleeves: He ''would'' have these thanks to his over-sized coat, if he didn't roll them up.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Downplayed significantly. The Barbatos starts out equipped with a [[CarryABigStick mace]], and doesn't get a sword until its MidSeasonUpgrade. Even after he has a sword available, though, Mika prefers the mace and only uses the sword as a smaller, lighter backup weapon. In Episode 21, when selecting a weapon, he complains that he finds the sword difficult to use and passes up on it in favor of a [[ImprobableWeaponUser massive two-handed club/wrench hybrid]] that can crush a limbs with its jaws or be used to throw around other mobile suits. However, Mikazuki ''is'' unique among Tekkadan and its allies in using a sword at all, even as a second choice, so the trope is ultimately played straight. [[spoiler: in episode 25, he finally figures out how to use it properly and wields it to deadly effect against Ein.]]
* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler:He pushes the limit of Barbatos' Alaya-Vijnana system to kill Ein in the last episode, which costs him both his sight in his right eye and the use of his right arm when unconnected to Barbatos.]]
* HiddenDepths: Mikazuki wants to run his own farm in the future. There is also a chance that he might return Atra's feelings if how he reacts to her good luck charm at times is any indication.
* IdiotHair: An odd case, since he's no more BookDumb than the others, and sometimes even the OnlySaneMan.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Barbatos's wrench mace is a massive wrench used to perform adjustments to the Barbatos. [[WrenchWhack Mika uses it to rip Grazes in half with ease.]]
* ItsPersonal: [[spoiler:In the narration, he mentions that he is usually impartial to his foes and simply kills those Orga tells him to kill. When Biscuit dies, he notes that now he'll kill anyone who gets in the way and then presses Orga into taking action.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: He can be downright ruthless, even cruel, but that doesn't change the fact that war is about survival, not acting like a boy scout. The simple fact is, every person he's killed was either trying to kill him, or personally responsible for the deaths of his brothers. These were enemies, plain and simple.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: After being refurbished by Teiwaz, the Barbatos trades out its [[CarryABigStick enormous mace]] for a large but more conventionally-sized (for a mecha) odachi as its melee weapon of choice. The 'just better' bit is slightly played with, though - it's a superbly-crafted weapon, but it's not one Mikazuki is used to, so he has a bit of difficulty at first with learning not to use it like a big metal club.
* KidHero: Not only is he a Gundam protagonist (translation: teenage HumongousMecha pilot with enough skills and firepower to wipe out small armies), but he's part of the rare subset who were superhumanly-skilled warriors before ever seeing the inside of a Gundam's cockpit. It's worth noting, though, that his lethal competence isn't portrayed quite as glamorously as this trope usually implies - in fact, it's sometimes played for outright horror. He is an emotionally-scarred child soldier, after all, and children are ''not'' supposed to be able to kill that easily.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: He nearly murders Gaelio ''with his bare hands'' when he thought they had hurt his friend's little sisters, Cookie and Cracker. Any time he sees one of his friends hurt or threaten sets off his TranquilFury.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiUxW8uyRXc Iron Blooded Orphans]]" "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6zRd8ITN1s Hoping For You]]"
* MeaningfulName: Mikazuki means "Crescent Moon". When he landed to the Earth and saw the moon, he learnt the meaning of his name for the first time.
* NeckLift: Delivers a rather terrifying one to Gaelio when he thinks the latter's car has run over the Griffon siblings.
* NeverLearnedToRead: When a mechanic hands him the Barbatos' manual to look over, he just gives the guy a sad smile and hands it back. Being a ChildSoldier in an entire unit of nothing but ChildSoldiers, he's not alone in being illiterate. Eventually, Kudelia begins to teach him (and the other kids in Tekkadan) how to read.
* TheNicknamer: A dark example. He doesn't believe in learning the names of people he's about to kill, but recurring enemies will get half-hearted nicknames, like "Chocolate Man" for [=McGillis=] (a reference to his handing out some chocolate as an apology for nearly hitting Cookie and Cracker while [[VillainsOutShopping driving around on Mars]]) and "Gali-Gali" for Gaelio (a [[MaliciousMisnaming possibly deliberate]] corruption of his first name).
* OlderThanTheyLook: Most viewers don't guess that he's actually fifteen on a first viewing. Probably justified in that malnutrition stunted his growth.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: He's a shrimp, but he lifted a grown man up by his throat and nearly strangled him to death with one hand.
* PowerAtAPrice: [[spoiler:Gives his arm and eye to Barbatos in order to gain enough strength to kill Eins. Now he can only use them when attached to it.]]
* RedBaron: In Season 2, he has become known as the Devil of Tekkadan for his ferocity fighting on the front lines.
* RedOniBlueOni: Among Tekkadan's MS pilots, he's the Blue to both Akihiro's and Shino's Red.
* RevengeBeforeReason: He used to fight for survival, [[spoiler: starting from Biscuit's death, whoever blocks his way is his enemy and he will shred them into pieces.]]
--> [[spoiler: "I don't care who you are, it doesn't change that '''you are my enemy'''."]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler: When he [[NoHoldsBarredBeatDown swept down Carta and her squadrons]] [[OneManArmy on his own]] to avenge Biscuit's death.]]
* ShedArmorGainSpeed: [[spoiler: In order to chase up Graze Ein's agile maneuverability, Mika detaches the armor of Barbatos and resort to his katana.]]
* ShipTease: With Kudelia, [[spoiler:whom he kisses in episode 13]], and Atra, who made the good luck bracelet on his left arm.
* ShouldersOfDoom: The upgrades that the Barbatos gets over the course of the series are visually signified by changes in its shoulder armour. The 'doom' part comes, of course, from the fact that bigger and more impressive shoulders mean Mika has more and better ways to kill you.
* ShutUpHannibal: Trying to distract Mikazuki with a BreakingSpeech in the middle of a fight just isn't a smart thing to do. As multiple enemy pilots have found out, he'll just file it away for later consideration and then get right back to killing you.
* TheStoic: Doesn't show his emotions outwardly, but he does have strong opinions and makes them known through actions.
* TheSnackIsMoreInteresting: He's been guilty of this several times, thanks to those Mars palms. There's also those sandwiches made by Atra and Kudelia, which he's still chowing down on while [[ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask revising his English and maneuvering the Barbatos through some tricky wreckage.]]
* SubmissiveBadass: He does whatever Orga orders without a second thought, whether it's to kill someone or get in the cockpit of the Gundam.
* TearsFromAStone: When Mika is about to execute Carta with her own bent blade, the Barbatos can be seen shedding tears. Whether it is BerserkerTears from Mika or it being sad is another question.
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: A subtle example. Kudelia is the first person to notice that his hands shake after killing someone, in one of several early indicators that he's not quite as much of a cold, remorseless killing machine as he appears... and that trying to be one is taking a serious toll on him.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He's frequently seen snacking on "Mars palms" (that is, Martian-grown dates).
* TranquilFury: In a departure from his [[TheStoic usual temperament]], Mikazuki adopts this when choking Gaelio for mistaking him for crashing Cookie and Cracker with his car, and later, facing off against [[spoiler: Carta, after she kills Biscuit.]]
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Par the course of someone being a {{Child Soldier}}, but it ''really'' gets ramped up late in the series.
-->'''Mikazuki:''' "Hey Orga, what should I do next? Is this our place? I won't stop until we get there. I can't stop.... Hey, how many should I kill? How many more until we get there? Tell me Orga. [[FullNameUltimatum Orga Itsuka.]] You'll take me there, right? What should I do next? [[TheUnfettered Who should I kill next? What should I destroy next? If I can reach your goal, I'll do anything.]]"
* UndyingLoyalty: To Orga. He goes along with whatever he decides. "What are we gonna do, Orga?" No matter what Orga says in reponse, he will do it.
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: Seeing this expression on Mika's face is the surest sign that something's ''really'' pissed him off.[[RunningGag Amusingly, it doesn't take much to snap him out of it.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: While the entire Tekkadan already has no problem hitting women, Mika worths a special mention. In the battle against the Turbines, when the rest were trying to defeat the Turbines without bloodshed, Mika fully intended to ''kill'' Lafter when battling against her, it was fortunately halted by [[DefeatMeansFriendship Naze admitting his defeat and befriending the group]]. [[spoiler: In the battle against Carta Issue, the Gjallarhorn officer who killed [[ItsPersonal Biscuit]], Mika immediately went for the kill and wasted her and her entire group.]] It's to be expected. Mika's a soldier after all, and thus, is not about to go easy on an enemy on account of what's between their legs.
* WreckedWeapon: He gets the Barbatos's maces lost and/or destroyed so often that it becomes a dark, subtle RunningGag. It's particularly noticeable since most of his other weapons tend to fare considerably better. [[spoiler:the wrench mace got it worse, getting pulverized by the Graze Ein's PileBunker.]]

-> '''Main mecha''': TK-53 CGS Mobile Worker, TK-53/s CGS Mobile Worker Space Type

The leader of CGS's Third Group and Mikazuki's closest friend. He recognizes that the rest of CGS cares absolutely nothing for them, so takes the job of ensuring their safety on himself -- even at the cost of CGS's displeasure. He's well aware of Mikazuki's fanatical devotion to him, and takes pains not to abuse their relationship. After the Gjallarhorn attack on CGS and the Third Group being sacrificed to delay them, it's Orga who sends Mika to pilot the Barbatos in their defense, and it's Orga who floats the idea of taking over CGS afterwards. While instrumental in the creation and survival of Tekkadan, Orga is still young and occasionally makes bad decisions -- particularly by putting Mika's (rarely expressed) desires before what might be best for the group as a whole.
----
* AnimeHair: Despite being a young man, his hair is white. And spiky, with a single lock that sticks directly out from the front of his forehead, then curls around his temple. In some cases, it even doubles as a visor!
* BadassInANiceSuit: Starting in Season 2, he wears a red, well tailored suit under his uniform, signifying his allegiance to TheMafia.
* BashBrothers: With Mika. Though the entire Third Group is a BandOfBrothers, his relationship with Mika specifically is older and closer.
* BigGood: He's the leader of Tekkadan.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: He gets wasted in episode 8 while celebrating with the rest of his group, while the other were relatively unaffected.
* CelibateHero: In episode 9, he says he's not interested in women when prodded by Shino and Eugene. Whether he literally means that or he finds women a distraction it's not delved on.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: He's a young guy in his late-teens[=/=]early twenties, and although he's as effective a leader as could be reasonably expected for a guy that age, it's becoming increasingly apparent that part of him sort of wants to cut loose and enjoy life a little more - but he's primarily concerned about Tekkadan being respected and its members (Mika in particular) being safe and respecting him as their leader.
* CharacterTic: Orga has a habit of closing his right eye during a conversation, not that many people would notice as it is sometimes obscured by his oversized bang.
* CrazyPrepared: He had easily three backup plans in the fifth episode, taking everything into account, including Todo's betrayal.
* DarkSkinnedBlonde: It's not obvious until he's alongside the other guys, though.
* {{Expy}}: Conveniently white-haired father to his RagtagBunchOfMisfits men, master of the IndyPloy with some BloodKnight traits -- Orga is basically a younger and hipper [[Series/TheATeam Colonel Hannibal Smith.]]
** Closer to home, as a dark skinned, white haired commander who is RatedMForManly, Orga resembles a younger [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE Woolfe Enneacle]]
That Mikazuki is almost a stand-in for a young Kiritsugu Emiya (as noted above) gives us a close approximation of how the two might understand each other, especially [[spoiler: their adoptive father-son relationship]].
** His commanding of a private mercenary outfit, whom he led in a rebellion against his superiors after being betrayed, which is currently engaged in war with a powerful military organization, and being a devoted commander to his troops who will show no mercy to anyone who harms them [[spoiler: as Carta found out the hard way following Biscuit's death]] is quite similar to the tale of [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidV Big Boss/Venom Snake]]
* AFatherToHisMen: The welfare of the Third Group is his first and only concern, both in combat and out. He's willing to screw up CGS's plans in order to protect his men, then take the entirety of the blame so CGS's adults don't punish anyone else for it.
* GuileHero: Taking his relatively rag-tag band against other, better equipped and better supported enemy forces, he wins through a combination of foresight and cleverness. For example, when the First Group abandoned the Third Group during Gjallarhorn's initial attack, he remotely activated pre-planted signal flares hidden in their supplies, drawing Gjallarhorn's attention and prompting them to redirect some of the forces they were sending against the Third Group.
* HeroicBSOD: In the aftermath of [[spoiler:Biscuit's death]], Orga shuts himself inside his room and sulks until Mika [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan convinces him to leave.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: It's been noted that Tekkadan's financial woes only started with Orga insisting on handing out severance pay to all the First Group people who opted out.
* IGaveMyWord: He refuses to abandon a mission once he agrees to carry it out, partially to avoid besmirching Tekkadan's reputation and partially because Orga's just that stubborn.
* LargeAndInCharge: Orga's not thickly built, but he towers over almost ''everyone'' else in Tekkadan (only Norba and Akihiro are as tall as he is). He's even much taller than Naze Turbine, who isn't exactly dwarfish. It's especially jarring given that he's implied to be no older than twenty, but makes the other main Tekkadan boys, who are most likely in the 13-16 range, look like shrimps.
* RuggedScar: A nasty one on his left arm. One of the first scenes is [[AMinorKidroduction a flashback to where it came from.]]
* SlasherSmile: Any time Orga gets one of his... [[IndyPloy ideas]].

A chubby boy who acts as the Third Group's support officer, working directly with Orga on the non-combat side of operations. One of the few people in Tekkadan to have any family at all, he has twin little sisters, Cookie and Cracker, an older brother who works in the Earth Sphere, and an elderly grandmother, Sakura. He joined CGS in order to help support his family, as their only other source of income is their grandmother's farm, which doesn't pay enough to support all of them by itself.

* BrokenPedestal: His love and admiration for his brother Savarin was shattered [[spoiler:when Savarin arranged for him and Atra to be kidnapped by Gjallarhorn.]]
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Although he has family, both his parents are conspicuously absent. In episode 14, it was explained that they died in an industrial accident

----

[[spoiler:He can even pilot two spaceships at once, a feat said to be impossible]]
* BigEater: Normally downplayed, but when faced with the plethora of delicacies Teiwaz has to offer, you wanna get out of his way.
* CowardlyLion: He's a bit of a coward when the tables get turned on him, mildly panicking while in battle (despite still putting up a fight) after the First Group pretty much left them as CannonFodder. He's among the first to think of the worst case scenario.
* GreenEyedMonster: Defined primarily by his envy of Orga for taking over as leader. Ultimately subverted as he grows out of it in the early episodes... at least when it doesn't come to women.

-> '''Main mecha''': TK-53 CGS Mobile Worker (pink), EB-06/tc2 Ryusei-Go (Graze Custom II), "Ryusei-Go" (Shino's Shiden Custom)

A large, cheerful member of the Third Group, who specializes in hand-to-hand combat as well as piloting.
----
* AceCustom: Gets another MS using a brand new frame, which still has elements of the old Ryusei-Go's design, shark grin stickers on the head, shoulder thrusters, and all. Also since the old Ryusei-Go's cockpit was salvaged and fitted onto the Shiden, his particular variant of the suit has the Alaya Vijnana system installed, making it one of its kind.
* AmbiguouslyBi: He definitely loves women but has a bit of ShipTease with Yamagi. And then there's all the hints the staff are making, including this excerpt from the radio show:
-->"Shino doesn't really care either way, and since he doesn't really draw the line anywhere, he could agree to pretty much anything."
* AnAxeToGrind: His Ryusei-Go is still the same old Graze under all its mods and emergency repairs, and it still uses the same old Graze axe in suit combat.
* BadAss: He's the leader of Tekkadan's boarding team, which means almost every sortie for the first half of the series involves him and his group loading into space suits, boarding the enemy ship from the Isarabi, and checkmating the enemy captain.
* BigEater: He's shown stuffing his face with such enthusiasm (while shouting about how delicious it is) that [[JabbaTableManners he's spraying food everywhere.]]
* TheBigGuy: The biggest person in the Third Group, and specializing in hand-to-hand combat to boot.

[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gundam_ibo_tekkadan_akihiro_altland.png]]
-> '''Main mecha''': TK-53 CGS Mobile Worker (blue), EB-06/tc Graze Custom, ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake, ASW-G-11 Gundam Gusion Rebake Full City

The leader of the CGS group referred to as "human debris", made up of boys who ended up in CGS as a result of [[MadeASlave human trafficking]]. Gruff and distant, he nonetheless tends to lead from the front, even in dangerous circumstances. Pilots a Graze, and later the Gusion Rebake.
----
* TheAllegedCar: His first suit, the Graze Custom, is a looted enemy machine that got [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown comprehensively Mikazuki'd]] and then repaired by an engineer with limited resources who only had any experience with Mobile Workers. To nobody's great surprise, it's a barely-functional mess, and when combined with his own inexperience as a pilot, it ensures that Akihiro's usual battlefield role is as a distraction for the enemy while Mika and the Barbatos do the real fighting.
* AnAxeToGrind: Since he starts out piloting a looted Graze, his primary melee weapon is, of course, the standard axe. When he upgrades to the Gusion Rebake, though, he sticks with the weapon type - this time, in the form of a massive, razor-sharp halberd with a telescoping handle.
* AtopAMountainOfCorpses: His Gusion Rebake's appearance in the last episode of Season One [[spoiler:[[OffscreenMomentOfAwesome after dealing with, and outlasting, a number of Grazes on the outskirts of Edmonton]].]]
* {{BFG}}: The Gusion Rebake's primary ranged weapon is a standard 120mm Graze rifle with an extended barrel and enhanced targeting systems, turning it from an anti-personnel weapon into a precise, lethal suit-killer. During the Episode 21 island battle, he steps it up a notch by borrowing not one, but ''[[GunsAkimbo two]]'' of the Barbatos's huge 300mm smoothbores.
* TheBigGuy: One of the beefiest of the crew and fights like a brute. It even extends to getting the Gusion which is a lot bulkier than the sleek Barbatos--although the Gusion Rebake is a bit slimmer with a large shield, not unlike the bulkiest Gundam of the Universal Century, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory the RX-78GP02 Gundam "Physalis"]].
* CantCatchUp: As a freed slave with unresolved emotional baggage, he's got a serious complex about staying useful to his new adoptive family in Tekkadan, and being a rookie mobile suit pilot saddled with [[TheAllegedCar the worst machine in the show that someone hasn't actually sabotaged]] makes it worse. Him getting the mighty Gusion Rebake is good news from both a tactical and a therapeutic standpoint.
* CombatPragmatist: The idea of honorable fights goes completely over his head. PlayedForLaughs when Carta Issue's squadron start to give a clearly choreographed introduction only to be interrupted by Akihiro shooting one of their mobile suits in the head mid-routine.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His parents were gunned down by pirates while his younger brother and him were sold off into slavery.
* {{Determinator}}: It does not matter if his mecha is falling apart around him, he ''will'' complete his mission.
* {{Expy}}: If the hairdo and attitude haven't sealed it yet, episode 7 is the one where Akihiro finally shows his... [[{{Manga/Berserk}} Guts.]]
* GoodCostumeSwitch: Not him, but upon acquiring the Gusion it's revamped into a much slimmer machine that more closely resembles a traditional Gundam.
* GunsAkimbo: He and the Rebake memorably provide fire support with two massive 300mm howitzers borrowed from Mikazuki's Barbatos during the defence of Makanai's island in Episode 21.
* HandicappedBadass: With the caveat that it is his ''machine'' that is handicapped, not he himself. Despite piloting the Graze Custom, a mangled and crudely-repaired mass-production suit, he held his ground two-on-one against Amida and Azee's AceCustom Mobile Suits. With him becoming the second in the Tekkadan to get a Gundam Frame he's taken an upgrade.
* HeroicBSOD: He really doesn't take it well when [[spoiler:he learns that the enemy pilot who critically injured Takaki is his own brother Masahiro.]]
* HiddenDepths: Don't brush him off as human debris, he's the man Orga trusts with ''running the Isaribi in his absence'', and only the second Tekkadan member assigned to a mobile suit.
* LightningBruiser: The Gusion Rebake, being a Gundam, is this by default thanks to its massive power output. In some ways, it's actually tougher, faster, and stronger than the Barbatos, Tekkadan's flagship suit, thanks to its extra arms, extra thrusters, and massive shield (although Nadi and company soon start work on fixing that).
* LongRangeFighter: By IBO standards. GunsAreWorthless in this setting, so most mobile suit combat is in melee, but while Akihiro is willing to wade in swinging his axe, he shows a marked and unusual preference for gunplay. In the Graze Custom, this is because his inadequate skills and even less adequate suit make sitting back and firing blindly at the enemy his best and safest option. In the Rebake, it's because the custom Gundam's powerful sensors and extra-accurate gun mean it's actually pretty decent at ranged combat.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Akihiro's Gusion Rebake has a large shield that also functions as a thruster pack when stored on the back of its waist.
* MadeASlave: As a child, he and his brother were captured by pirates and taken as [[InsistentTerminology Human Debris]]. While Akihiro was sold to the CGS, Masahiro was sold to the Brewers.
* TheMenFirst: His personal interests are second to the needs of those he leads.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Goes from the Graze Custom to the newly acquired Gundam Gusion.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: The Gusion Rebake has a extra pair of arms located in its back-mounted thruster pods. It's one of several similarities (like the colour scheme and armament) that the suit has with his Turbine friend Lafter's Hyakuri - which, given that the Turbines helped him (re)design it, is probably not a coincidence.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: He makes it clear when Orga talks about taking over CGS that he and the others of their group will work for whoever is in charge, be it the First Group or Third Group, because they have no other option.
* PerpetualFrowner: Noted as being "aloof and unfriendly", the only two expressions he seems to have are "stoic" and "angry". He seems to smile when talking about his younger brother though.
* PoorCommunicationKills: [[spoiler:His choice of wording when trying to give his brother a CooldownHug sent him over the edge.]]
* RagTagBunchOfMisfits: Leads the "human debris" team, which are rag-tag even by the standards of CGS.
* RedOniBlueOni: Among Tekkadan's MS pilots, he's the Red to Mikazuki's Blue, but the Blue to Shino's Red.
* ShoulderCannon: His Graze Custom is upgraded with a large, shoulder-mounted artillery piece after its first battle, compensating slightly for its poor repair and his inexperience with manually-piloted vehicles.
* TookALevelInBadass: While he's a highly talented Mobile Worker pilot, his mobile suit career starts in perhaps the most ignominious way possible, saddled with a [[TheAllegedCar barely-functional wreck]] with a control scheme he's almost totally unfamiliar with. Taking his level in badass requires two stages - first, training with the Turbines to become a genuinely competent pilot, and second, getting a useful, effective mobile suit that plays to his strengths in the form of the mighty Gusion Rebake.
* TragicKeepsake: A unique example in the form of his newly acquired Gundam, Gusion. It serves to remind Akihiro of his little brother, but what makes it even more tragic is that it was the very Mobile Suit that killed him in the first place.
* TrainingFromHell: A constant, self-imposed example. His complex about being a freed slave leads to him spending nearly every waking moment training and exercising so that he might remain useful to Tekkadan.
* WeakButSkilled: An interesting example because it's his initial Mobile Suit that's weak. Still, that he's able to go toe to toe against pilots with far better hardware shows he's not just DumbMuscle.
* WhatAPieceOfJunk: The Gusion Rebake is a downright weird-looking mishmash of Graze, Gusion, and Barbatos parts glued together with whatever the Turbines could find lying around their hangar... but it's also a Gundam designed and assembled by some of the best engineers in the solar system, and that makes it extraordinarily dangerous.

[[folder:Todo Mirconen]]
!!!Voiced by: Yutaka Aoyama (Japanese) and Creator/KirkThornton (English)
One of the First Platoon defectors remaining in Tekkadan, and allowed to sit in on Orga's meetings due to rank alone. Back then his only real role was to yell at the kids and keep them in line, and he's not one to throw out the old ways....
----
* DangerousDeserter: Of a sort. [[spoiler:After being kicked out of the airlock by Orga, he is instructed by Gjallarhorn to stop or slow down Tekkadan, which he does by bribing the Brewers to attack them. And he's currently kept by Montag as his informant and right-hand man.]]
* DirtyCoward: He's a lot less loudmouthed after the CGS takeover, and with good reason.
* HateSink: No one likes him, mostly due to being totally unsympathetic and having [[GodwinsLaw a mustache like Hitler]].
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: After Orga expels the First Platoon, Todo decides to stick around since he saw Orga's squad as his meal ticket. After Mikazuki kills Crank, fearing retailiation from Gjallarhorn, [[spoiler: Todo becomes a Mole and later jumps ship after Orga kicks him out.]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: Shown to get well-off thanks to working as [=McGillis'=] informant at the end of Episode 25.]]
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: [[spoiler:He sells Tekkadan out to Gjallarhorn, only to learn that Gjallarhorn and the Orcus Company don't have any qualms with killing him along with the rest of Tekkadan. Subverted as [[DoWithHimAsYouWill he's delivered to Gjallarhorn alive and well,]] [[BoundAndGagged kinda]].]]
* ShamefulStrip: [[spoiler:After Orga figures out that he betrayed him, he strips Todo down to his boxers and sends him in a pod to [=McGillis=].]]

[[folder:Dexter Culastor]]
!!!Voiced by: Akinori Egoshi (Japanese), Chris Cason (English)
The accountant from First Platoon who would have opted out and made it away with his life... if they didn't have other plans.
----
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: They have no intention of killing him, but as the accountant he knows how the numbers work and how the money flows. He's too valuable right now for them to let him leave, but otherwise he's treated fairly.
* NonActionGuy: Again, accountant.
* PutOnABus: Inverted. He's among the Tekkadan members left on Mars when the voyage to Earth begins.

[[folder:Maruba Arkay]]
!!!Voiced by: Katsuhisa Houki
The ''actual'' head of CGS, which is technically a non-combat role. So fleeing the moment Gjallahorn came knocking? [[BlatantLies Totally reasonable.]]
----
* BadBoss: ''Hoo boy.'' Discounting everything mentioned below, he's responsible for enforcing the Alaya-Vijnana system on all the kids, acquired in bulk on the cheap since they're all "human debris", and most likely ''ditching'' the 40% that were crippled in the process. And Orga's most likely the only one he can ''name.''
* CommutingOnABus: Disappeared for about 6 eps, resurfacing only after he'd found new backing... with [[TheFamilyForTheWholeFamily Teiwaz.]] After another 2 eps, he's out of the picture again.
* DirtyCoward: Known mainly for being the first to flee when Gjallahorn showed up.
* MadeASlave: Naze forces him to become a slave miner to repay Teiwaz for the money Maruba's fruitless and unjustified quest for vengeance cost.
* NeverMyFault: Cleared out the safe at CGS before he fled, and still expects Orga to hand over all the remaining assets. This would have included the Barbatos, which he never really knew the true value of.
* SatelliteCharacter: Not even to another character, but to the developments of CGS.
