* AlternateCompanyEquivalent:The Preboot version's great strength, warrior persona, axe, and role as an enforcer for the Emerald Empress all make him quite similar to the Sliver Age ComicBook/TheMightyThor villain Skurge the Executioner. The Persuader even has a similar look, with BaldOfEvil and a BadassMoustache concealed by a helmet.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The Five worked together so well that they decided to stay a group and thus became one of the greatest forces of evil in the universe. Better than the Sun Eater gorging itself on our galaxy, though.

* PsychicPowers: He can generate intense blasts of "mental lightning" that stun his foes, a combination of powers from his parents [[spoiler: Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl.]] He also demonstrates a number of abilities such as TrueSight and resistance to psychic attacks at times, again likely due to his heritage.

* RetCon: [[spoiler:After being confronted by Saturn Girl, who pleaded for her son back, Darkseid was impressed by the courage her love for her son gave her to oppose him even as she acknowledged his fearsome power and reverted Garridan back to his human form...until 5YL when it was revealed that he'd actually made Garridan the unaffected carrier of a disfiguring/fatal virus that only infected Winathians and Titanians. 5YL, is, however a different continuity than the mainstream one]].

* PetTheDog: Out of gratitude for the kindness of the natives of Corvan IV, the Five uplifted them technologically and declared themselves the planet's delegates, aiming for inclusion in the UP. They really, honestly wanted to put their evil aside and settle down peacefully with the natives. To prove their sincerity, they even allowed Mano and The Persuader to be held in a UP prison until the Legionnaires' investigation was over. Unfortunately the Legionnaires determined that the natives were being uplifted too quickly for their own good, and the remaining members of the Five attacked them. The battles was stopped by several Corvanians, who thanked the Five for their efforts but politely asked them to leave the planet and let their culture develop on its own. Regretfully, the Five left. When next they surfaced, they were [[HeelFaceDoorSlam mortal enemies]] of the Legion once more.

* TheMole: After hearing about how Bouncing Boy proved himself worthy to join the Legion by beating a villain after being rejected, she decided on her own to infiltrate the Fatal Five and prove she was worthy to join the Legion by tricking them into being beaten. She ''did'' manage to turn the tide during a battle by mind-tricking Emerald Empress into activating the the distress signal on one of the downed Legionnaire's flight rings and Flare into firing upon the telecommunications shield satellite that would have blocked it, but the Empress immediately realized what she'd done and brutally murdered her.

* LoveMakesYouCrazy: Apparently the reason he's so loyal to the Fatal Five is because he's in love with Sarya. Following her death, she becomes a ''lot'' more violent and unhinged.

* KidWithTheLeash: The other members of the Fatal Five are the "kids" to Validus. Tharok, who could control him directly, conditioned the titanic monster to obey them as well. When not being commanded, he acts like a toddler.

* MindControl: Tharok has this power, and usually uses it to control Validus. While trapped in another dimension, hemanaged to expand it to the point where he could influence everyone on the planet Talok VIII into both becoming more war-like and setting the Five free. They then ruled the planet until Tasmia Mallor and the Legion drove them away.

* BoxedCrooks: The five most wanted criminals in the galaxy, originally assembled to help the Legion fight the menace of the Sun Eater in exchange for a full pardon.

* LegacyCharacter: Postboot, several women have posessed the Eye -- or been turned to the dark side by it when they caught its fancy. Preboot, Sarya was succeeded in the role of Emerald Empress by Falyce, who proved even nastier than she.

* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Green Hair]]: All the Empress' have green hair, to fit with the emerald theme.

* {{Telepathy}}: He is, at times mentally able to control Validus. Whether this is due to some device attached to the giant or what is unexplained, but even a few separated components from Tharok's brain were able to link together and communicate with him over a vast distance.

* EyelessFace: And earless. And noseless. How does he smell? Terrible! [[spoiler:But seriously, considering his mom he probably has some sort of psychic blindsense.]]

* CripplingOverspecialization: Her JediMindTrick is useful, but her other psychic powers seem to be rather lacking. Also, she fails when faced with a mind that is strong-willed and aware of her powers, [[spoiler:like the Emerald Empress's]], so she tends to rely on surprise.

* BadPowersBadPeople: "I want acid hands and a super grip!" isn't usually something nice folks tell their doctors.
