* GameBreakingInjury: Badly mangles his hands during his Berserkerbowl duel with Ryuki, this leaves him at a severe disadvantage against the also bruised yet relatively unharmed Lihito during the tournament's final round.

* UpgradeVsPrototypeFight: After Koga figures out how to anticipate Ryuki's FlashStep during their Berserkerbowl fight, he gets into a PummelDuel with him with Koga using the Niko Style's Indestructible and Ryuki using Gaoh Style's Armorclad. Which one is superior is never answered as this a stopgap exchange of blows where both combatants are more focused on trying to create a lull in their opponent's defenses to bring out their respective FinishingMove.

* MythicalMotifs: While translated as a relatively simple set of ElementalPowers, in Japanese, The Niko Style Katas are named after Buddhist guardian deities related to the four elements, with the Nil Kata representing [[EnlightenmentSuperpowers Akasha]]; Two quick examples being the Adamantine Kata (Kongou no Kata) coming from [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nio Nio]], the god depicted in statues of the [[https://i.postimg.cc/mrWN4wvQ/image.png Kongou Rikishi]] and the Water Kata being named after [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suijin Suijin]]. Several moves from the different Katas such as [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shukuchi Earth-Shrinking]] are also direct references to legendary martial arts techniques from across Japan.

* FlawedPrototype: As its progenitor, the Gaoh Style has many superficial similarities to the Niko Style, but it lacks equivalents for the Redirection and Water Katas, making it a "hard" style that relies on bursts of speed, durability, and power to land hits rather than the more cohesive and flexible techniques available to Ohma. Although Ryuki has been shown to use Weeping Willow, which shows that he's able to use flowing movements.

* WeakButSkilled: Ryuki is skinnier than Ohma and doesn't have the Advance to boost his striking power. Instead Ryuki is trained in the Gaoh Style that mostly amounts to waiting and enduring until an opportunity to kill his oppoenent presents itself.

* FatalFlaw: Many fighters have commented that the Gaoh Style won't get him anywhere in the Kengan Matches. [[spoiler:It's because the style is based on surprise attacks that, once seen, can be countered by fighters. It may have been suitable for ancient Japan or the Inside, where they can kill their target without major repercussions, but is wholly unsuited for fighting in public.]]
** This rears its head up when fighting [[spoiler:Naidan]], who is easily able to counter every technique Ryuki throws at him, even ones not seen by the reader before. [[spoiler:Naidan]] states that the attacks are too direct and the setup has become sloppy.
** Still a problem during the Berserkerbowl where he almost loses in the pool for it. * CowardlyLion: Although he's hopelessly out of his depth in the Kengan tournament and is constantly on the edge of a nervous breakdown, he's still willing to stand up to Erioh Kurei in defense of Ohma and his son, and Kurei even compares him to Metsudo Katahara.

* AwesomeButImpractical: The Advance gives Ohma a massive boost in speed that allows him to overwhelm his opponents. However, its main effectiveness is being able to crush fighters who are as strong as or weaker than Ohma, like Inaba, but the way it works causes his techniques to lack precision and rendering it wild. In the end, the Advance can be used fighting against opponents who are stronger such as Sekibayashi and Raian. And that's not even getting into the fact that it was slowly killing him. By the last round of the tournament, he's refined his control of it to utilize it at a lower output, giving himself a moderate physical boost without the downsides. Unfortunately, he accumulated far too much damage to make a dent against Gensai.

* ChickMagnet: A flock of women started crowding him at a casino (he says he had no idea why). Karura fell for him at first sight, Shion Soryuin finds him attractive even when he's manhandling her, Mihono Suoh slips him her room number and Yoshiko Togawa starts crushing on him based on an [[IWasJustPassingThrough complete misunderstanding from ''one reply'' to her.]]

* CripplingOverspecialization: During his dream battle with Tokita Niko, the ghost Niko informs him that he focuses way too much on the redirection and flame katas of the Niko Style, at the expense of learning all of the techniques completely. He makes better use of all four katas over the course of the tournament.

* DifficultButAwesome: {{Implied}} with the Niko Style as a whole as it takes a variety of skillful usages through which can only be accomplished through hellish training and fully mastering each individual Kata's unique qualities. Luckily Ohma displays being a master of nearly all of the Katas which grants him easier usage to their techniques, but he mostly relies on the Redirection and Flame Katas, with his weaker ones being the Water and Adamantine Katas though he is shown to be just as proficient when the situation calls for it.

* TookALevelInBadass: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-Zagged]] He regains his full mastery of the Niko Style and is able to optimize the Advance with the Niko Style during the final rounds but is severly on the brink of death due to the injuries he sustained during the tournament.

* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Instead of being an immature rambunctious child Ohma moreso had to fight in order to survive the harsh reality of the ''Inside'' where laws don't exist and during this time he was incredibly dangerous and was not a child you wanted to pick a fight with. Especially when he gave the already bloodthirsty and ferocious looking bodyguard Ando a very terrifying look that scared him half to death when falling out of a window.

* TouchOfDeath: After [[spoiler:Kiryu]] teaches him [[spoiler:Rakshasa's Palm]], Ryuki figures out how to incorporate its chief principle into his other moves such as his grapples. Gaoh Style: Shrike is also a technique that can potentially kill or cripple the opponent instantly by stabbing directly at the cervical verbetrae and blood vessels from below the mandible.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: As a child he was capable of injuring several Yakuza members and damn near killing all of them until he was beaten down by Ando and even then he was strong enough to force the bodyguard out the window. However this is subverted when he becomes an adult as he's not only tall but incredibly muscular as well. Though he tends to fight opponents that are much larger in stature in terms of height and weight.

* TouchOfDeath: After [[spoiler:Kiryu]] teaches him [[spoiler:Rakshasa's Palm]], Ryuki figures out how to incorporate its chief principle into his other moves such as his grapples. Gaoh Style Shrike is also a technique that pops a blood vessel with minimum effort by striking below the mandible.

* TouchOfDeath: After [[spoiler:Kiryu]] teaches him [[spoiler:Rakshasa's Palm]], Ryuki figures out how to incorporate its chief principle into his other moves such as his grapples.

* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Justified. Ryuki exclusively uses a single move (Earth-Crouching Dragon) in all of his fights until his match with Akoya; there, he mentions that his grandpa told him never to use any move ''but'' Earth-Crouching Dragon in public.

** The ultimate technique of the four styles together, Demonsbane, is a perfect counter as it can be launched from virtually any attack and the user can add his own power to it. But if any kata is not done perfectly it's just trading blows and breaking posture.

** [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]], when it comes to [[spoiler:killing his opponents. Ryuki's actions make it quite clear that he knows the difference between fighting and killing, primarily killing members of Worm. Unfortunately, his underdeveloped sense of morality nearly causes him to kill Kuroko, and when discussing his most recent murder of a Worm member with Koga, he ends up alienating the latter from himself for a time.]]

* TricksterMentor: Acts as one for Koga, but he's much more straightforward than Niko was with him if still playful.

* KnowNothingKnowItAll: Early on, he's a fine example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect in action. He doesn't know enough martial arts to understand how much of martial arts he ''doesn't'' know, and so he thinks his smattering of skills picked up from dojos makes him a MasterOfAll. The Kengan vs Purgatory tournament gives him a front-row seat for seeing just ''how far out of his depth'' he would've been if he somehow lucked out and claimed a seat on the roster, with even the weakest members of both teams being more than strong enough to crush him.

* KnifeNut: He carried two knives when he lived on the border Tokita Ward which he would use until he grew up enough to kill with his bare hands.

* IdenticalStranger: He looks almost identical to Ohma, but slightly shorter and thinner, and is frequently confused for the latter by those who has met him. Nogi and Metsudo discuss the possibility of him being Ohma's clone, though later reveals would show that both him and Ohma are clones of [[spoiler: Shen Wulong]].

* TrainingFromHell: Koga's training regimen to become a Kengan fighter is downright Spartan considering that he trains under different masters, especially once the deadline for the tournament approaches. [[spoiler:He does ridiculous endurance and strength training with Sekibayashi at 7:00 AM, which involves doing thousands of Hindu squats, pulling Haruo and eating food to bulk up until he pukes. Afterwards, he jogs to Kureishi Dojo at 11:30, where he practices striking on a 150kg sandbag and develops grappling techniques by fighting Cosmo. He recuperates at 4:30 PM by forcing himself to drink protein and vegetable drinks while scarfing down rice and meat. By 7:00 PM, he practices Karate with his uncle by sparring against Rokushin Kaikan black belts, and then ends his day by sparring against Kokuro Utsubuki at 10:30 PM. Oh, and he does cardio by running between each of these destinations to top it off.]] Jose Kanzaki, himself a powerful fighter, thinks Koga is crazy for working out so much. However, Koga brushes it off by napping between sessions, as well as gaining six more kilos in muscle.
