** Kata and Ran both rely on speed and accuracy in their fighting styles while embracing specific emotion of the heart to empower their Jyuken. However, Kata's source power comes from hatred and malice while Ran's source of power comes from justice and honesty.
** Rageku and Retsu put alot of emphasis on the technique side of Jyuken, but Rageku uses her fighting style to show her superiority over those she deems as inferior to her, Retsu does it to express himself as an artist and to find new ways to grow as both a fighter and an creative.

* {{Foil}}: They serve as both an EvilCounterpart and a ShadowArchetype to the main three Gekirangers. [[spoiler: This is highlighted in the final episode when the Kenma teach the triangle trio their respective fighting styles in order to obtain the power to seal away Long.]]

* DeathisCheap: His Madoku ability, *StoryBreakerPower that allows him to "poison" the dead back to life. But the ability can be used a limited number of times depending the number of fingers remaining: He used one on himself to full ressurect during his fight with Mele, two to bring back Kademu and Moriya to aid in his assassination attempt. The last three were taken by Mele with Rio using them to revive the Kenma.

* Co-Dragons: He and Kademu became Braco's co-conspirators when he decided to defect.
* Crippling Overspecialization: While not a terrible fighter, Moriya prefers to leverage his ability to stick to walls and let his opponents come to him where he has a homefield advantage. When his opponent finds a way around this and he's forced to fight on even terrain, however, he soundly gets his tail kicked.

* Dragon Their Feet: His decision to cut and run allows him to outlast Braco, but he's easily taken out by the Gekirangers soon after.

* ScrewThisI'mOuttaHere: After Rio Curbstomps Kademu, Moriya decides to book it and spread fear to gain more power. Unfortunately, he runs afoul of the Gekirangers and is promptly destroyed for the second time.

* Sadist:

* WouldHarmAWoman: Enjoys the screams of women.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: His attempts to overthrow Rio are short lived, but his involvement in the plot leads to Rio getting the True Poison Fangs and reviving the Kenma.

* WallCrawl: His signature technique

* ThemeNaming: Aside from Sha Fu, the Kensei are named after real-life martial artists.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Maku in particular - [[ThisCannotBe even when he's dying he refuses to admit he's lost]].

* BadBoss: Maku, which is why even Kata and Rageku didn't want him back. The first thing he does after being revived is assault them both.
* BattleAura: Maku invented Dorinki, and can blow the Super Gekirangers away with his sheer aura.
* BearsAreBadNews: Maku is bear themed and easily the worst out of the three of them.
* BerserkButton: Maku is naturally short tempered, but he gets really pissed off by anything he perceives as an insult to his power, which is pressed by anybody but the Kensei challenging him.
* BigBadWannabe: Maku. He's one of the most feared beings alive for a very good reason, but the real BigBad is right under his nose, smirking at him. After the [=SaiDain=]'s Beast Power Blossom, Rio is clearly more powerful than him by Maku is too arrogant to admit, and Rio is content to allow the Gekirangers to destroy him. [[spoiler:And it's later revealed he was nothing more than another pawn of Long's.]]
* BullyingADragon: [[spoiler: Retroactively it's revealed Maku attacking Long, while fully aware of his identity, was this. Maku was strong, but Long is an entirely different league, and could have killed him right then and there.]]

* DrivenByEnvy: Rageku's power is derived by pushing oneself through sheer jealousy.
* EvilerThanThou: Maku invokes this on Rio soon after he's revived, taking back control of Rin Juken Akugata from him.
* EvilIsPetty: Maku. He takes nearly anything as an insult to pride, which can be something as simple as an opponent he considers unworthy picking a fight with him.
** Maku's treatment of Rio. Taking back leadership of Rin Juken because Maku was stronger was in line with their beliefs, Rio even accepted it. But Maku saw him as worthless and continuously focused on trying to prove his superiority over Rio, not caring that Rio could be a valuable underling.

* HairTriggerTemper: Maku. We didn't get another bad guy this hot-tempered until ''Shinkenger''.
* ThePowerOfHate: Kata's style derives power through hatred.
* JerkAss: Maku. He tempts Rio with the other of making him his student to get him to revive him, but after coming back, Maku assaults the other Kenma before beating Rio as well. Despite Rio being a surprisingly GracefulLoser and acknowledging as the stronger one, Maku refuses to take him as a student and instead does everything he can to prove he was superior to Rio.

* LightningBruiser: Kata, he's style is heavily involves attacks from the air, and he's durable enough to NoSell most attacks thrown at him.
* MasterOfIllusion: Kata, and oddly, he gets hurt a lot more easily if somebody hits him during them (compare with one punch from Jan pissing him off, to when before the [[{{BFG}} Geki bazooka]] had no effect on him)
* MightyGlacier: Maku. He's doesn't bother with dodging attacks, he just responds to everything with brute force.
* {{Pride}}: Maku (see ArrogantKungFuGuy). He was thrilled to be chosen as Brusa E's successor...until he learned that he asked Shafu first, and Shafu declined. Being the second choice ate away at Maku until he went mad.

* StoneWall: Rageku's style revolves around making her opponent's attacks pass through. That said, it doesn't much to defeat her if an attack actuall connects.
* TrainingFromHell: Kata's motto about training is "There is training in a battle to death." He takes on Rio in match to death just to prove if he is worthy of being his student, and since his strength is derived from ThePowerOfHate, his training for Rio proves so brutal that Rio fears for his well being.
** Rageku's initial training isn't any better. She poisons Rio and then states she is taking Mele as a student while forcing her to fight Sha Fu. As it turns out, the entire plan was done to make Rio jealous of Mele coming close to killing Sha Fu, so the envy would cause him to push himself to attack Rageku in spite of the poison killing him.

* MookPromotion: The monsters are essentially Rinshi (this series' footsoldier mooks) that are stronger than the other Rinshi. Proven by passing through the Chamber of Trials, defeating all the other Rinshi inside single-handedly. Then they can remove their mask and the animal motif on their forehead appears. They also gain the ability to transform into the shows traditional monster form.

* {{Expy}}: A boy raised in a Jungle after a powerful BigBad kills his parents eventually becomes a RookieRedRanger of and animal themed team of Rangers that is led by the Yellow Ranger. This is strikingly similar to Cole Evans from Power Rangers Wild Force.

* AuthorityGrantsAsskicking / AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: They're by far the strongest members of the Rin Juken, and Maku leads because the other two are terrified of him.

** Easily defeats the Gekirangers in their first real fight, with even the [[BFG Geki Bazooka]] failing to scratch him. He is initially dealing this out in the rematch until they figure out how to use Kageki and turn the tables.

* BadassBaritone: Is the Kensei with the deepest voice as well as one of the most badass.
