A race of beings that live in the Light World.

Natives of the Dark Worlds. They take their form from Fountains that reflect locations and objects found in the Light World.

* DarkIsNotEvil: Most Darkners are friendly folk that adore Lightners - a lot of the Darkners from the Cyber and TV Worlds are nothing short of ecstatic when they finally get to meet Kris and their companions.

* GoshDangItToHeck: It's very rare to hear a Darkner swear - and most Darkners who do swear have a self-censor of some kind. For example, Spamton's swears are filtered out by his verbal tics, Loma and the Stagehands of the TV World produce absolutely ear-splitting bleeps instead, and Primrose mentions she has a "filter" that temporarily makes her lose control of herself when she attempts to swear.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Darkners are a strange case - in theory, every single one of them is ancient, but when they're able to reflect something from the Light World, they take their age from how long their Fountain has been around for.

* ServantRace: A recurring question throughout the story is whether or not Darkners really are only meant to serve Lightners. Darkners like King are certainly happy to "get back" at the Lightners who he thinks abandoned his kind, while the Purple Knight admonishes Loma for falling back into her "programming".

* TakenForGranite: It's mentioned that a Darkner who makes their way into a Dark World that they didn't originate from (aside from Castle Town) will be petrified. With the use of a Shadow Mantle, however, this fate can be averted. Petrification can also happen to certain Darkners within their own Dark Worlds as well, such as the Show-ons - as they reflected TV programs that constantly phased in-and-out of production, they had to regularly shapeshift in order to still "fit in" with the TV World.

older resetters especially so.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Arimetto, Flowey and Sethrona have quite a few years on Jevil, Spamton and Primrose - Arimetto is about two hundred years old, Sethrona is just over fifteen hundred years old, and Flowey is several thousand years old - and it's said that he's older than all the other resetters combinedfor reference, the Fountains that Jevil, Spamton and Primrose take their forms from all sprouted within the last thirty years.

* FloatingLimbs: Arimetto's hands and fingers look separated from the rest of their body, but the narration describes a hidden string that connects them.

* Jerkass: Put simply, Arimetto is a prick. They look down on people who aren't able to reset, view most others as things rather than people, and have a history of inflicting horrific violence.

* GreekChorus: The Stagehands Kris and Ralsei meet constantly chatter to them and amongst themselves about what's happened, and what's currently going on - with a fair amount of ragging on Cecil and Loma being done as well.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: The Stagehand called Cecil is consistently singled out by his fellows - his fervent obsession with Kris, even by Darkner standards, proves to be quite grating to those around him.

* BigShutUp: He does this at one point to quiet the other Stagehands. It works and then some.

* TheLeader: He's the leader of the Stagehands, who hold a deep respect for him - as soon as he begins to openly talk about how he's not a good director, his crew is very quick to tell him otherwise.

"Every Day He Would Have A Conversation With Someone On The Phone" The image flickered, as if taken from a thousand different cameras, all put together to form a 3D image. "He Brought The Phone With Him When He Moved In And Cried When He Got Ghosted" Queen was almost monotone as she said this, the hologram switching to a view of a lobby, of sorts. "Then He Did Nothing For A Bit" Spamton was... praying, in the image. Added DiffLines:

* HidingBehindYourBangs: Susie's eyes are obscured by her hair a lot of the time. The first time Kris sees Susie's eyes in full is when they tell her and Berdly that, if they really care more about continuing their feud rather than help save the world, then they ought to look at one another dead in the eyes and tell the others so. Ultimately, Kris Susie and Berdly do look at each other in the eyes, unobscured, but none of them dare utter that stopping the Roaring is less important than continuing to go for each other's throats.

Added DiffLines:

* ParentalNeglect: There's a lot of signs that point to Susie's home life being quite grim - her reaction to the room Ralsei gives her in his castle suggests that she's used to far less comfort. She's also quick to push away the question of where her parents are after the heroes seal the Purple Fountain, looking quite awkward as she grunts that they're not at church.

--> Susie turned, walking slowly up to them, and put a hand on their shoulder.
--> Not aggressive.
--> They clamped down on any emotion, as she stared them straight in the eyes. "How's Free Ham Sandwich Day 2 sound, freak?"
--> They closed their eyes. Nodded, giving the scene the gravitas it deserved. "Like the titles of the shitty giant human movies you admitted to watching, asshole."
