Because he utterly refuses to believe he can somehow be at fault, he never corrects his behavior, even if he's called out on it in public. Lastly, he uses invisibility cloaks of dubious legality, acquired from a butt-hurt noble who has designs on Rain, to sneak past the guards at the entrance to the dungeon Yoke is exploring and interrupts the exploration at the worst possible time, holding Clover at sword point, when they desperately need to escape to deliver a warning that the dungeon is about to stampede, and refuses to believe it, insisting on forcing Yoke to sign a magical contract that would make lies true, to steal accomplishments he knows aren't his. Naturally, karma's finally had enough and comes for him, for real, and there's nobody that can help him or his party at that point.
