Added DiffLines:

* AdaptationalWimp: In the novel, Kyouhi was far more active and courageous in standing up to Dakki than in any other adaptation: she publicly defied Dakki by not applauding at the end of the concubine's lewd dance, and later she verbally tore her to shreds during the monthly meeting of all concubines with the empress. The best part was that being a concubine of low rank, Dakki did not have the right to address the empress, so she just had to sit there and take it. Later, when Kyouhi was accused of treason and brutally tortured, she withstood that and maintained her innocence even after having her hands burned and an eye gouged out. In the manga, she becomes depressed after Dakki's arrival and laments her weakness to her young son. She ends up [[spoiler: killing herself off-screen]].

A vivacious doushi living with her father in the Kingo Islands, Sengyoku is introduced in the story as a spy sent by Bunchuu to gather information about the leaders of the Shou and Taikobou's movements. She takes her job seriously at first, but falls head over heels in love with Doukouson (to everybody's surprise) and [[HeelFaceTurn switches sides]]. Her ball-shaped paopei Gokouseki is the source of many humorous scenes in the manga, as it follows its target around and magically applies too much makeup on whoever it hits. Sengyoku also has a terrible fear of birds due to a trauma from the past.

The favorite wife of Emperor Chuuoh, Dakki appears to be a stunningly beautiful and innocent young woman who wants nothing more than to enjoy herself. In reality, she is an ancient fox spirit formerly affiliated with the Kingoto Islands who took over the body of a woman brought before the Emperor, and used her supernatural skills to gain absolute power. Her backstory reveals that she has been doing that for hundreds of years in order to live in luxury, but lately her powers have increased considerably and her exploits have taken a decidedly vicious turn, as she began to drive the country to the brink of starvation and civil war for no apparent reason. She lives in Chouka, the capital of the empire, surrounded by her underlings, for which she throws lavish parties at the cost of the populace.
