[[folder:St. Gloriana Women's Academy]]
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/GUP_St_GlorianaSmall_124.png]]
The schoolship representing Kanagawa Prefecture, St. Gloriana (named after UsefulNotes/ElizabethI) uses British tanks ([[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matilda_II_(tank) Matilda]], [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churchill_tank Churchill]] and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusader_tank Crusader]] are all seen, along with a [[http://www.warwheels.net/Landy2PinkieINDEX.html "Pink Panther"]] scout car, while supplementary materials also include a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cromwell_tank Cromwell]]), and maintains a very [[StiffUpperLip British attitude]]. They have a tradition of sending tea to teams they deem worthy rivals.

They are the first school ÅŒarai face. It was a practice match ending in [[spoiler:St. Gloriana's victory.]] Miho's skills impressed St. Gloriana's team leader, Darjeeling, enough that the latter takes a shine to the ÅŒarai girls and attends all their subsequent matches in the tournament proper. Unfortunately, no rematch ever takes place, as St. Gloriana is taken out by Kuromorimine in the semifinals.

In the movie [[spoiler: ÅŒarai and St. Gloriana get their rematch, joined by the Chi-ha-tan Academy and Pravda High School for each team respectively. Unfortunatly for ÅŒarai the match also ends in St. Gloriana's victory. They later show up to help ÅŒarai in the University match, fielding their Churchill, a Matilda and a Crusader.]]

* BadassCreed:
--> ''"Be elegant at all times". This is St. Gloriana's sensha-do.''
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: They are always shown drinking tea even while in a match.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvU8LaE0-xw The British Grenadiers]].
* MightyGlacier: Their main tank lineup, composed primarily of Matildas and a [=Mk7=] Churchill. Their philosophy is also based on this, preferring a slow but steady advance.
* ProperLady: Most of the named members fall under this trope [[spoiler:with the sole exception of Rosehip.]]
* ThemeNaming: Almost all of them named after varieties of tea.
----

!!Darjeeling
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_darjeeling_6508.png]]
->''"[[IceCreamKoan Let me tell you a proverb of England]]"''

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, Churchill Mk. VII
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EriKitamura (Japanese), Kara Greenberg (English)

St. Gloriana's commander. Commands from a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churchill_Mk_VII Churchill Mk VII]] during the St. Gloriana-ÅŒarai practice match. Also seen in the same tank in preview shots for TheMovie.
----
* TheAce: In addition to being [[spoiler: the only commander to defeat Miho during the series]], chapter 11 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', in which the Gloriana girls visit an arcade, reveals that she seems to be peerlessly good at anything she turns her hand to, defeat Pekoe and Assam at ping-pong (at the same time, when her only previous experience was tennis), winning a pile of coins on a fruit machine, winning at pool, bowling, arcade games, karaoke, and poker, and finally matching the two of them in a pillow fight at once.
-->'''Pekoe''': I don't think we'll match Darjeeling-sama in our lifetime...
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Darjeeling is the only commander to have defeated Miho. ''Twice!''
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Supplementary materials reveal that she has a great many passing random enthusiasms, such as horse-riding, cooking, restaurant service, competing in lotteries, and English romance novels among other things.
* BadassBoast: Declares that she will defeat ÅŒarai without spilling a drop of tea.
* CatchPhrase: She is fond of saying "Do you know this proverb/story?" before giving the said proverb or story to whoever she's talking to.
* CombatPragmatist: Is not above using superior numbers against a lone tank. Which, given that it's Miho's tank, is entirely understandable.
* CosplayOtakuGirl: In the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' manga, she's shown to be fond of wearing various costumes, such as a maid outfit, the tank restaurant's uniform, and a nurse outfit.
* CrazyPrepared: After a day losing to her in an arcade, Pekoe and Assam decide to ambush her in a pillow fight. She swiftly reveals two pillows she had already readied in anticipation.
-->'''Pekoe''': Let us take the first move for once!
-->'''Assam''': Darjeeling-sama, prepare yourself!
-->'''Darjeeling''': ''Surprise.''
* DramaticDrop: Drops her teacup in the middle of the battle (in spite of declaring she never would!), as a sign of facing pressure from ÅŒarai.
* EdibleThemeNaming: Darjeeling is a type of tea.
* EnglishRose: Here, as an InvokedTrope. Darjeeling strives to present the look and behaviour of an English Rose, despite being Japanese herself.
* FanOfUnderdog: Towards ÅŒarai.
* FleetingPassionateHobbies: Her random enthusiasms are a RunningGag in many supplemental materials.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler:Doesn't mind her school's loss to Kuromorimine. In fact, she seems to prefer it, as it gives her the opportunity to observe how much ÅŒarai (and Miho in particular) TookALevelInBadass.]]
* IAmVeryBritish: Her Japanese has [[{{Keigo}} a very refined angle to it]]; the kind that only Hana can match.
* IceCreamKoan: Her jokes and pearls of wisdom are... difficult to grasp if you're not English.
* LadyOfWar: Lampshaded by herself.
-->"All's fair in love and war."
* LethalChef: Chapter 5 of the official spin-off manga portrays her as this. Much to the displeasure of her subordinates [[spoiler:and Anglerfish Team.]]
-->'''Yukari''' (*''sotto voce''): ''"Is this an [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meal,_Ready-to-Eat#Criticisms MRE?]]"''
* {{Meido}}: Dons a short-skirt version in Chapter 5 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', again to her subordinates' dismay.
* OfficerAndALady: Commander of St.Gloriana's tanks and a ProperLady.
* QuintessentialBritishLady: St. Gloriana's national theme is the British Empire and so Darjeeling enjoys tea, uses english idoims and acts like a ProperLady.
* ProperLady: Polite, dignified, dresses modestly and drinks tea with impeccable poise.
* SpiritedCompetitor: She plays to win but doesn't turn Sensha-do into SeriousBusiness like Kuromorinmine.
* SpotOfTea: Drinks tea out of elegant china ''while riding in a tank''.
* StiffUpperLip: Has no qualms watching the ÅŒarai-Pravda match out in the open, despite how cold everyone else finds it.
* TeamMom: ''Tries'' to be this to her tank crew and Pekoe-chan in particular. [[MyBelovedSmother Pekoe is having none of it.]] In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', she seems to be this towards the other teams, calling them together for a meeting about how to defeat ÅŒarai.
* WorthyOpponent: How she sees ÅŒarai; she sends them tea as a sign of her respect. The feeling is mutual.
----

!!Assam
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_assam_2198.png]]
->'''Position:''' Gunner, Churchill Mk. VII
->Voiced by: Creator/SatomiAkesaka (Drama CD and Movie)

Darjeeling's gunner.
----
* AscendedExtra: Downplayed in the movie. She gets more screen time and more lines, but she's still a supporting character.
* ChekhovsSkill: In the practice match of the movie, she is shown to read some kind of data concerning their unit's firepower and survivability in combat. [[spoiler: It turns out that Assam gathers data on their opponents. This comes into good use in defeating the University Team's T28 Super Heavy Tank.]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: She's not been seen nor mentioned again after the St. Glorianna battle, in any of their later cameos, until the movie.
* EdibleThemeNaming: Assam is a type of tea.
* InformedAttribute: She's said to like jokes, but never speaks. This is remedied in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', where she has dialogue, although her jokes aren't very good, to say the least.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Like Darjeeling, she wears this combo as part of the 'refined british lady' image of St.Glorianna.
* RapunzelHair: Especially evident in Chapter 11 of Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu, when she unties the towel around her hair and lets it loose.
* TheVoiceless: In the anime, Assam is well known for being silent (however, this can be slightly justified since she's got very little screen time).
----

!!Orange Pekoe
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_orangepekoe_5617.png]]
->''"Pardon?" (When reacting to Darjeeling's proverbs)''

->'''Position:''' Loader, Churchill Mk. VII
->'''Voiced by:''' Mai Ishihara (Japanese), Ally Piotrowski (English)

Darjeeling's loader and tea partner.
----
* BadassAdorable: Despite being one of the smallest and demure characters in the series, ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' reveals that not only is she more than prepared to put Darjeeling in her place, but all that loading of heavy shells means she's stronger than Darjeeling and Assam combined.
* BigOlEyebrows: Not the most extreme case out there, but they are noticeable, and in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', she's a bit insecure about them.
* EdibleThemeNaming: Orange pekoe is a tea grade, indicating tea made from only the fresh buds and young leaves.
* HappyPlace: Her strategy for coping with Darjeeling's frequent bizarre enthusiasms (and awful cooking) and Assam's terrible jokes is to go here and just ride out the storm. Represented in MLLSD with a small fairy-Pekoe which hovers above her head.
* HonestAxe: In "Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu," she has a dream about Darjeeling falling into a pond, and Assam asking if she would like a golden or silver version of her; she asks if she has to choose. In one of Darjeeling's dream, Pekoe is the axe in the pond, and Darjeeling [[TakeAThirdOption says she wants them all]]
* SatelliteCharacter: Her role (besides being Darjeeling's Loader) is being the {{foil}} reacting to her occasional weirdness.
* {{Squee}}: Her ''only'' independent action upon seeing [[CavalierCompetitor Kay]] embrace Miho and cheerfully [[BadassCreed explains to her]] [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen the sportsmanship angle of Sensha-do]]. Darjeeling keeps her calm disposition, but Pekoe brings her hands to her mouth in a endearingly girlish way.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Orange Hair is the exact color of iced tea, which is made with Orange Pekoe.
----
!!Rukuriri
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rukuriri_gup.jpg]]

->'''Position:''' Tank Commander, Matilda II
->'''Voiced by:''' Natsumi Takamori

Commander of a Matilda II.
----
* WrongGenreSavvy: She tries to invoke [[GenreSavvy genre savviness]] in the movie by anticipating [[spoiler:Duck team's appearance behind her at the car garage. She fails to notice a Type 95 Ha-Go to her right however.]]
----

!!Rosehip
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosehip_gup.jpg]]
->''"You can't run away from the top speedster of St. Gloriana!"''

->'''Position:''' Tank Commander, Crusader
->'''Voiced by:''' Natsumi Takamori

Introduced in the movie. Commander of St. Gloriana's Crusader tank battalion.
----
* AttackAttackAttack: In contrast to the [[MightyGlacier slow and steady advance]] of her peers, Rosehip prefers to just dive into the fray, using the Crusader's speed to quickly take out opponents. This borders on LeeroyJenkins as sometimes, she doesn't really think ahead of what the opponent might do or who her opponent is and has to be reigned in by Darjeeling. [[spoiler: For example, she expected to face Chaffees when the University team broke through the gate they were protecting and was the first to dive to the fray, only to come face-to-face with a T28 Super Heavy Tank.]]
* FragileSpeedster: Commands the crusaders, very fast tanks but also highly vulnerable.
* FieryRedhead: So much, being the more spirited member of the St. Gloriana team, and for having her namesake hair color.
* HotBlooded: She's loud, full of energy, and always ready to dive into action.
* LowerClassLout: A very much [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]] example. She comes from a poor, low class family and has trouble keeping up with the elegance shown by her upperclassmen such as preventing her tea from spilling. She also favors the speedy but weak armored cruiser vehicles over the elite's preference for the slow and heavily armored infantry tanks.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: According to a drama CD, she comes from a poor, low class family where she lives with 18 family members, 7 of which are her siblings.
* NoIndoorVoice: In comparison to Darjeeling, she is usually speaking on the top of her lungs.
* RememberTheNewGuy: According to the audio dramas, Rosehip was actually present during St. Gloriana's practice match with Oarai.
* TooFastToStop: She crashes her Crusader on Klara's T-34/85 during the practice match in the movie, causing both to be buried in the wreckage of a store they destroy. [[spoiler:Ends up embedded in a wall while taking out one of the university Chaffees.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Does the tank version of this to protect St. Gloriana's flag tank]] in the movie.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Pinkish red, much like the color of her namesake tea.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Saunders University - High School]]
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/GUP_SaundersSmall_7264.png]]
A very [[{{Eagleland}} American-themed]] school, representing Nagasaki Prefecture. They use a wide variety of [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_tank Shermans]]. [=M4A4, M4A1(76)W, M4A6=], and Firefly models were all seen.

----
* {{Eagleland}}: Saunders has distinctive American traits, such as being rich, using GratuitousEnglish, and mostly relying on numbers as their Sensha-do style.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10vnuku2VrI The Battle Hymn of the Republic]]
* ThemeNaming: the names of the important Saunder's characters have similar pronunciations in both English and Japanese; Kei/Kay, Arisa/Alyssa and Naomi[[note]]which is pronounced as Na-o-mi in Japanese and Nigh-o-mee in English[[/note]]
* ZergRush: Their specialty is to deploy a lot of Shermans and simply overwhelm the opponent with superior numbers. They have enough tanks to have three full Sensha-do teams.[[note]] official Sensha-do rules allow a maximum of 10 tanks per school in the tournament with the exception of the final round, which allow up to 20 tanks per school[[/note]]
----

!!Kay
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_kay_6078.png]]
->''This is Sensha-do, not war. [[BadassCreed Your tank will cry if you are a bad person!]]''

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, M4 Sherman
->'''Voiced by:''' AyakoKawasumi (Japanese), Creator/EmilyNeves (English)

Saunders' leader and commander of an [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Sherman M4 Sherman]] during the Saunders-ÅŒarai match.
----
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: While Alise and Naomi are outraged by Yukari's infiltration of Saunders, Kay breaks down in uncontrollable giggles at her KellysHeroes reference and compliments her when they meet again just before their match.
* BadassCreed: See her quote above. Let's put it in perspective: in a world where Sensha-do is SeriousBusiness enough to justify [[spoiler: disowning one's daughter over preferring lives to victories]], she firmly believes the [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen opposite]]. She utters it only once, so it could be a BadassBoast, but she then she lectures [[spoiler:Miho]] about it, after having behaved that way all the battle [[spoiler:and before and after it]], making clear it's a creed and not a boast.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Saves Alisa from ÅŒarai's pursuit.]]
** In the movie [[spoiler:they show up to save ÅŒarai's tanks when the school is closed]]
* BigEater: Downplayed, but she is supposed to be American-themed, so this trope is naturally present: during the final, she is seen munching her way through a tub of popcorn roughly the size of her torso. In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', it is revealed she wears some sports-channel fat burner belt so she can eat more fried chicken.
-->'''Nonna''': You could just eat ''less''...
** Apparently shares this trait with her direct subordinates, as the end credits scene of the movie would point out: [[spoiler:Worfing popcorn inside the cockpit of their school's transport plane, and even taking a large bite out of Arisa's burger.]]
* BoisterousBruiser: Typically American boisterousness combined with a typical American 30-ton war machine leads to this.
* CavalierCompetitor: Being spied upon? No biggie. Losing first blood to the enemy? Surprising, but interesting! For her, tank combat is ''fun''.
-->''"Exciting!"''
-->''"That's'' Sensha-do!"''
* {{Eagleland}}: Not actually American, but she represents the Noble variety as the friendly sportsman with a lot of firepower.
* {{Expy}}: Of sorts to [[Manga/{{Saki}} Touka Ryuumonbuchi]]; both have the same hairstyle, and both are {{Large Ham}}s. The only difference is that Touka is a more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, compared to Kay who is at least more open as long as she gets to enjoy the sport.
* {{Foil}}: Nicely contrasts with Manga-Anchovy, given that she's laid-back and enjoys exciting matches, while Manga-Anchovy values victory above all else. This is nicely emphasized in that Kay's match is shown in the anime, while Anchovy's in the manga.
* GenkiGirl: Her energy during a match (or outside a match) is unrivaled in her team.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: Embraces Miho after her loss to ÅŒarai, then teaches the latter her creed.]]
* GratuitousEnglish: Liberally sprinkles her speeches with American English.
* InformedAttribute: Darjeeling's claim that Saunders often uses "dirty tactics" becomes this after Kay is shown in action, unless Darjeeling somehow knew about [[spoiler:Alice intercepting radio communications]]. She probably assumed that Saunders' foreknowledge of Gloriana's positions in previous matches was Kay's own doing, if she didn't know about [[spoiler:Alice]].
* LargeHam: A genki girl that loves her sport in a sherman tank? Yes, this is the result.
* LetsFightLikeLadies: Only pursues ÅŒarai with four tanks, because [[spoiler:one of her teammates was intercepting their radio transmissions]].
-->''"This is ''Sensha-do'', not war."''
* MeaningfulName: She may be named after the British Sherman Firefly driver and historian of armored combat Douglas Kay.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: While [[GenkiGirl genuinely energetic]], she becomes stern and subdued while telling Alice that she wants a word with her regarding [[spoiler:her radio tapping, which ended up backfiring and costing them the match. When she first finds out about Alice's radio tapping and screams "YouFool" at her down the radio so hard Alice cringes. She brings Alice to the final with her, though so it seems she wasn't too mad.]]
* PassThePopcorn: Munches on a nice container of the stuff in Episode 12 watching the battle with Miho and Maho. Justified because it is a sporting event.
* PhenotypeStereotype: Like Darjeeling, she has the Anglo-Saxon blue eyes and blonde hair gig going for her. Her hair is more strawberry blonde as opposed to Darjeeling's paler color to give off the more wild American vibe.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Believes in the concept of fair play and condemns dirty tricks like [[spoiler:radio interception]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Kay, or Kei, depending on translator
* WhoWearsShortShorts: She does, and so do the rest of Saunders as part of their combat uniforms. Their school clothes are more typical, just in West Point Grey.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade-B in contrast to Darjeeling's full tights. Again, this is for the 'wild american' vibe.
----

!!Naomi
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_naomi_9267.png]]
->'''Position:''' Tank Commander/Gunner, Sherman Firefly
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MariyaIse (Japanese)

Saunders' second-in-command. Serves as gunner on the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Firefly Sherman Firefly]] in Saunders vs ÅŒarai.
----
* BoyishShortHair: This is how it looks in comparison to her superior's longer hair.
* TheCasanova: In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', she is said to have many girlfriends and in one scene, is shown to be able to charm St.Gloriana's Assam.
* ChewBubblegum: While blasting away, she's chewing gum. She even runs out of gum right before kicking [[spoiler:Anglerfish's]] ass.
* FriendlySniper: Down three ÅŒarai tanks with her Firefly.
* FunbagAirbag: When she slumps back in her seat with a "sigh" at the end of their onscreen battle, her head finds some... [[UnusualEuphemism comfortable pillows...]] courtesy of her startled loader.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: While visibly disappointed by their slim margin of defeat, she nevertheless harbors no ill will towards Ooarai at the end of the day.]]
* LadyLooksLikeADude: [[BoyishShortHair Conspicuously so]]. Outside the tank it's not so conspicuous, due to her bosom.
* NumberTwo: To Saunders as a whole.
* WorthyOpponent: Considers Hana as this in the spin-off manga.

->'''Position:''' Tank Commander/Radio Operator, [=M4A1(76)W=]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyaHirano (Japanese), BrittneyKarbowski (English)

Saunders' third-in-command. Commands the flag tank, an [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Sherman_variants M4A1(76)W]], during the Saunders-ÅŒarai match.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Mentions a guy she likes called "Takashi" who doesn't like her back while her tank is fleeing from Ooarai, though considering her [[VillainousBreakdown mental state]] at the time, she could have just been babbling. She also implies that [[LoveTriangle Takashi likes another girl]], but gives no indication as to whether his love is requited. It's a very cryptic ShoutOut: Hirano voiced Suzumiya Haru''hi'', and [[VisualNovel/RumblingHearts Takayuki Narumi]] is whom Suzumiya Haru''ka'' is in love with.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: She might not be the best tank commander around and clearly needs a remedial course on good sportsmanship, but episode 5 shows why she's Saunders' Vice-Captain:
** She accurately guesses ÅŒarai's positions at the time of the radio transmission (time-distance calculation + terrain analysis), translates the very vague "leftwards direction" into a specific set of coordinates (more terrain analysis) and accurately estimates how fast Rabbit Team would get there (time-distance calculation, and it wouldn't have worked unless she got the first two approximately right). She then coordinates the movements of two platoons so the platoon moving in the open comes into view shortly before the flanking platoon moves in through the forest and counters ÅŒarai's reinforcing element by moving in Naomi's platoon (latter is not quite as impressive because her team has visual contact now, but still requires time-distance calculations). She also figured out the feasibility of withdrawing two tanks back out of commitment and into envelopment ahead of ÅŒarai's tanks (same). Keep in mind that all this was accomplished using only a radio and a map, without even seeing the battle unfold.
* BlatantLies: Claims her knowledge of Ooarai's positioning comes from "female intuition". Kay only doesn't notice because she's too pumped up.
* BoisterousWeakling: For all her boasting, she's an ineffective tank commander, whose panic over Oarai catching her results in. In an amusing symmetry with her calling ÅŒarai "weaklings". This is {{Discussed}} in the second recap episode (and downplayed because Miho is ''that'' [[NiceGirl nice]]).
* ButtMonkey: After her master plan against Ooarai falls to pieces, she seems to fall into this. ''Especially'' in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', where she gets caught trying to infiltrate Ooarai and humiliated, and later in the Christmas installment, [[ItMakesSenseInContext where Kay, dressed as Santa, crowdsurfs a sled into the back of her head and knocks her into a cake.]]
* CombatPragmatist: She's willing to seek every advantage in battle.
* DickDastardlyStopsToCheat: Saunders had numerical superiority, better tanks and more experienced crews, but Alice just ''had'' to cheat regardless. This enables ÅŒarai to turn the tables.
* EvilLaugh: She lets rip with one after intercepting another transmission, getting some startled looks from her crew.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler: In Episode 6, when her Sherman flag tank was being pursued by Oarai's tanks, she stressfully asked why such a school was participating in the tournament and that she knew that it was supposed to be abolished soon. This happened way early even before the Student Council President of Oarai stated that if they lost the tournament, the school would be abolished.]]
* GirlishPigtails: Which make her look like a loudmouth brat after tangling with ÅŒarai.
* GutFeeling: [[BlatantLies She claims]] that her knowledge of ÅŒarai's positions comes from this.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: The reason the numerically superior Saunders units ended up out-of-position, leaving her tank at ÅŒarai's mercy and convincing Kay to bring matching numbers of tanks during their counterattack? She fell for fake communications (when Miho [[DangerouslyGenreSavvy deduced that their radio transmissions were being intercepted]]), fooling her into [[AttackAttackAttack emptying her guns without informing her allies]].
* LargeHam: She's LaughingMad as she's running for the hills and [[ChewingTheScenery combining these mad laughs with non-sequiturs]].
* LoopholeAbuse: Technically, intercepting radio transmissions isn't cheating, but it's not good sportsmanship either. To further elaborate, using radio interception ''airplanes'' is illegal in the Sensha-do tournament. She gets around this by using a radio interception ''balloon.''
* MissionControl: Serves as one for Saunders and helped by the radio intercepts.
* {{Munchkin}}: Her team already had a two-one advantage in numbers, better tanks, and many more veterans, yet she still decided to eavesdrop on her opponent's communications to further increase the odds of winning. Imagine how bad she would be in World of Tanks!
* OhCrap: After realizing Kay disapproves of her actions and wants a word with her in an [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness uncharacteristically stern tone]].
* PaperThinDisguise: [[spoiler:In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', she only uses a pair of fake sunglasses as a disguise.]]
* {{Revenge}}: [[spoiler: In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', she decides to infiltrate ÅŒarai to steal its classified information in revenge for Yukari infiltrating Saunders. However, her disguise is... less than stellar, as Leopon Team finds her suspicious immediately]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Depending on the translation, is "Arisa", "Alisa" or "Alice."
* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: When TheCavalry appears she goes back to her ''eeevil'' ranting.
* VillainousBreakdown: When she finds out she was outsmarted and led into a trap, she doesn't take it well and starts babbling incoherently as her tank drives for its life.
* YouthfulFreckles: Her attitude brings to mind a BrattyHalfpint who didn't grow up.

Two nameless crewmembers of Alice's flag tank during Saunders vs ÅŒarai. Left and right in the pic, respectively.
----
* BeleagueredAssistant: Crewing Alice's tank is not a cake walk.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: The "ineffectual" part being because their tank is cramped with [[DickDastardlyStopsToCheat radio spying equipment]], to the point of the loader being unable to find her shells in a hurry.
* NoBadassToHisValet: It's clear they don't have a high opinion of Alisa's capabilities.
* NoNameGiven: Hence the fan nicknames.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: When Alice finally gets out of her VillainousBreakdown and stops distracting them, they become quite effective. {{Discussed}} by Miho in the second recap episode.
* SilentSnarker: They ''do'' speak, but most of their frustration at Alice's antics and command (or lack thereof) style is conveyed through exasperated facial expressions.
* ShowDontTell: They get lots of characterization in a very limited screen time. See SilentSnarker above.
* TheReliableOne: They fill the trope so closely that quoting verbatim the first two paragraphs of its page would accurately describe their on-screen time.

[[folder:Anzio Academy]]
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/GUP_AnzioSmall_860.png]]
An Italian themed school, representing Aichi Prefecture. Noted to be highly motivated, they have been shown to deploy a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carro_Armato_P_40 Carro Armato P40]], a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semovente_75/18 Semovente 75/18]], and a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L3/33 Carro Veloce L3/33]].

Despite being a mere footnote in the main anime, their match against ÅŒarai is given more depth both in the manga and later on in ''The Real Anzio Battle'' OVA, [[spoiler:but with completely different circumstances]].

In the movie [[spoiler:they show up to help ÅŒarai in the match against the University team, helping to take out the Morser-Karl as well as providing recon for ÅŒarai's team by riding the roller-coaster tanks. They field one CV-33 in the match]].
----

* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: During the introductory stinger of the said OVA, Anchovy was giving a speech towards the school's Sensha-do team. Just as she was about to reveal their "Secret Weapon", the bell tower tolls to signal noon time. Cue everyone present (save for Anchovy, Carpaccio, and Pepperoni) charging up the stairs towards the cafeteria.
* BigEater: An entire school of them. In the OVA, Anchovy states that in order to buy a new tank for their school, she had to cut the meal times from three times to two. They also have food stalls that make it seem that they have a school festival ''every day''. In the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' manga, some of their students exhaust the pasta supply ''for the entire ship'' after just a day of staying in Ooarai.
* EdibleThemeNaming: All main characters of the school's Sensha-do team are named after Italian food and ingredients.
* EnemyDetectingRadar: In the movie [[spoiler:they provide this role for ÅŒarai against the University team by riding the the roller-coaster tracks above the amusement park.]]
%%* FragileSpeedster: All their tanks, save for the P40, are these, which means they are capable of doing MultiTrackDrifting (See entry)
* GratuitousItalian: Almost everyone tends to pepper their speech with bits of Italian words in between.
* MultiTrackDrifting: As perfectly executed during the match's 5-on-1 "dogfight" involving Duck Team's Type 89 and a "squadron" of Carro Veloce Tankettes.
* PerpetualPoverty: With the kind of meal costs they have, its no wonder. This is also the RunningGag with Anzio, that they are one of the few schools even poorer that Ooarai.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Their default school uniform includes a short black skirt to contrast their white pantyhose.
* SupremeChef: Practically most of the Academy's student clubs have food stalls around their complex. Their justification is that they have to earn their budget since Anzio itself is cash-strapped.

->''"Confidence and enthusiasm!"''

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, Carro Armato P 26/40
->'''Voiced by:''' Maya Yoshioka (Japanese)

Anzio's squadron commander. Commands from a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carro_Armato_P_40 Carro Armato P 26/40]] during the quarterfinals match against ÅŒarai.

While portrayed in the manga as a {{Jerkass}}, her anime version is practically a completely different character, being nicer and less tyrannical.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy: Is far more of a jerk in the manga.
* BadassCape: Wears one in the anime.
* BreatherEpisode: The battle against her, sandwiched between Saunders and Pravda, both highly regarded schools that pushed Ooarai onto the brink of defeat, is considerably easier. It's also PlayedForLaughs, as ÅŒarai didn't even have to fight all the way until sundown.
* ButtMonkey: Apparently, [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/214682/girls-und-panzer-motto-love-love-sakusen-desu_ch7_by_ak-scanlations/4 Chapter 7]] of the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' spin-off manga portrayed her as this: first, her appearance [[spoiler:during the meeting of the teams who got beaten by ÅŒarai Academy during the tournament (including St. Gloriana)]] was apparently blocked with a conveniently-placed speech bubble; second, she later got hit in the face (knocking her out in the process) by a scale model of a dragon wagon (courtesy of an irate Katyusha); and third, she was apparently left behind at the said meeting place, unaware that the others have left.
** Extends even to her teammates at Anzio in the post-credits stinger of the Seventh OVA: [[spoiler:she takes the entire team to the battleground (in the middle of the night) to cheer ÅŒarai on in the Tournament Finals. They made camp there, but apparently slept for the entire day, ''completely missing the match itself.'']]
** She gets subjected to quite a bit of [[SlapstickKnowsNoGender physical comedy]] in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', e.g. getting almost drowned while practicing swimming.
* DartboardOfHate: Manga only. Hits a photo of Miho with a riding crop, and appears to have one of Kay posted on the same bulletin board.
* DefensiveWhat: Manga only. After Miho [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asks her if she believes that her and her teammates' efforts are meaningless because they lost]].
* DrillHair: Has a couple of these as part of her MegaTwinTails.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Manga only. When Miho points out that [[ThePowerOfFriendship her bonds with her comrades]] are most important, Anchovy points out that it’s a commander’s responsibility to bring victory to them.
* {{Foil}}: Manga and Anime versions are this to different characters:
** Manga version nicely contrasts with Kay, given that she's values victory above all else, while Kay prefers exciting matches. This is emphasized in that Kay's match is shown in the anime, while Anchovy's is shown in the manga. She also contrasts with Katyusha in that both look down on Miho and insult her decision to [[spoiler:save one of her tanks at the cost of the tournament win]], but while Anchovy strives for victory out of a feeling of responsibility to her comrades, Katyusha mainly does it for the sake of her own pride, and [[spoiler:Anchovy is a SoreLoser while Katyusha is a GracefulLoser]]. She also contrasts nicely with both of them in that the other two are good commanders, while she isn't.
** Anime version is a foil for almost every other school's team commander, as they are from schools that take Sensha-do very seriously and their teams often follow an almost military structure (or even their captains have actual authority in their schools), while in Anzio Sensha-do is just another club playing for fun, apparently no more important than the other clubs, and whose captain leads through personal charisma.
* FullNameBasis: Likes calling Miho Nishizumi by her full name in a manner reminiscent of [[VisualNovel/AceAttorney Franziska Von Karma]], in addition to the latter’s attitude toward winning. Downplayed in the anime version, where she drops the FullNameBasis when congratulating ÅŒarai for their victory.
* GeneralFailure:
** In the manga only, her plan to lure Oarai into a trap briefly gives her the advantage, but she gives Oarai far less trouble than their other opponents despite outnumbering them. Unlike other matches, the match doesn't go down to isolating and disabling the enemy flag tank.
** In the anime, her defeat was [[SurroundedByIdiots Pepperoni's fault]].
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: Manga only. When telling Miho that she doesn't accept her way of Sensha-do, this trope makes the statement all the ruder.
* GracefulLoser: in the OVA, she's shown to have no ill feelings towards Ooarai after her defeat, even going as far as to invite them to their feast after the match and even making an effort to cheer for Ooarai for the finals[[note]]which they miss due to partying so hard the night before[[/note]].
* HiddenDepths:
** In the manga version, while obsessed with victory, she says it's a commander's obligation to her team, and as she and Carpaccio are walking away after Anzio's loss, Anchovy apologizes to her, indicating that [[ItsAllMyFault she blames herself for the loss]], in spite of her anger toward Miho and her school.
** In the Anime version, the carefree actitude of her team is revealed at the end to be [[spoiler:the Anzio Sensha-do style: highlighting the "sport" part and downplaying the "martial arts" part and having as good a time as possible when practicing it while still striving for victory.]]
* HotBlooded: Both versions show her as a high throttle girl.
* InsistentTerminology: Wants to be referred to as "Duce Anchovy"; she even corrects Anzu when the latter called her "Lil' Chovy".
* ItaliansTalkWithHands: She may not actually ''be'' Italian, but both versions do this.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** In the Manga she openly calls Miho's way of Sensha-do weak before the start of their match, and makes disparaging allusions to Miho's decision to sacrifice victory to rescue her teammates. After losing, she outright accuses Miho of [[spoiler:being responsible for her team's defeat in the last tournament finals]].
** This is completed averted with her anime version,
* JerkassHasAPoint: Manga only. [[spoiler:ÅŒarai’s continued existence, something everyone is willing to fight to protect, rides on her team's success in the tournament, although Miho doesn’t know that and it’s unclear whether Anchovy does.]]
* JokeCharacter: The anime (prior to the seventh OVA) doesn't show the fight, just [[CurbstompBattle the result]].
* LargeHam: In the OVA, she's loud, bombastic, and pretty much likes being the center of attention.
* MegaTwinTails: Easily the largest set in the whole show.
* NiceToTheWaiter: Anime only. After every game, win or lose, Anzio offers a huge feast, not just for both teams, but also for the game staff.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: In the manga, Anzio starts out with the advantage. In the anime, her cunning and tactics allow Anzio a chance to get that advantage. At least until they botch it.
* PuttingOnTheReich: Her school's uniform is almost a carbon copy of Mussolini's fascist army uniforms, and she is also seen in the OVA wearing various extremely gradiose copies of Mussolini's wardrobe, such as a massive cape and riding crop.
* RedBaron: "Il Duce"
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: In the first few pages of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' Chapter 17, [[spoiler:she got a request from some of her "fans" to model in a bikini with her subordinates. She wasn't that much into the idea, but with some whisper-to-ear persuasion from Carpaccio, and with the rest of Anzio cheering her on, she obliged. Immediately, she shied away after the shoot (despite the fact that she had pretty decent proportions).]]
* {{Retcon}}: Of the {{Rewrite}} variety. The OVA that depicts the Anzio fight (previously seen only in the manga) was radically different. Anchovy's personality and behaviour (alongside about 75% of the tropes related to her) was completely inverted, changing her from a victory-obsessed SoreLoser to a fun-loving charismatic commander.
* SayMyName: Manga only. Screams “Miho Nishizumiiiiii!” just before her defeat.
* SecondPlaceIsForLosers:
** In the manga, she thinks that it's a commander's duty to bring ''first place'' to her subordinates.
** In the anime, she is seen tired of other teams thinking of Anzio as "losers", and strives to reach semifi- nah, FINALS!
* SecretIdentity: Of the KingIncognito variety, according to [[http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1732891?tags=girls_und_panzer this]] ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' strip.
* ShutUpKirk: Manga only. After Miho says there are more important things than victory, namely her comrades, Anchovy tells Miho that if her comrades are so important, she should do her job as commander and win.
* SoreLoser: Manga only. Doesn't take her defeat at ÅŒarai's hands well. Averted with her anime version, where she's a {{Graceful Loser}} instead.
* VillainousBreakdown: Manga only. Late in the match, and into the post-game, she freaks out.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Green, hair, actually. Though some supplemental materials imply she dyes it.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Is a brunette when first introduced in the manga, but becomes a blonde in all the advertisements for the Anzio OVA.
** Happens InUniverse, too, as the teaser page of chapter 20 of the manga shows her being dyed blonde by Anchovy, Katyusha and Nonna

* MellowFellow: Unlike most of Anzio, she's cheerful in a serene way.
* NumberTwo: Anzio's second-in-command.

----
* BoundAndGagged: In Chapter 17 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', [[spoiler:Duck team apparently kidnaps her after ÅŒarai successfully retrieved Momo from Anzio.]]
* BoyishShortHair: The only giveaway that she's a girl would be a braided strand hanging on her left.
* {{Determinator}}: Fitting, as her Veloces' opponent is Duck Team's Type 89. Several times the latter tank repetitively shoots the 5 tankettes, and they still kept coming since their flags aren't out yet. When her own tankette got flipped, she got thrown out of it before she starts running and pushing it right side up.
* TheDitz: Not exactly the sharpest among Anzio's Sensha-do crews.
* HotBlooded: She is prone to loud outbursts when she gets fired up. In the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' manga, she's recruited by Duck team twice[[note]]the first when she poses as an Ooarai student to learn how to cook the Ooarai Tank-katsu and the second when the Duck team kidnaps her during their rescue of Momo[[/note]] because of this trait.
* IdiotBall: [[spoiler: She's put in charge of deploying the decoys to be used in fooling Oarai. Unfortunately, she puts up ALL 11 decoys when Anzio only has 10 tanks, leading to Oarai seeing through the deception.]]

* LargeHam: Rather boisterous aboard one of Anzio's tankettes, serving as tank commander.
* LooseLips: Unwittingly reveals the type of tank Anzio just recently purchased to Yukari during the latter's infiltration of Anzio.
* NoodleIncident: Her cock-up [[spoiler:in setting up all of Anzio's cardboard decoys]] in the seventh OVA wasn't the first time, as inferred from Anchovy's statement:
-->'''Anchovy:''' I kept reminding her about this! Why would she forget about it?

----
* ACupAngst: In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', it's indicated that she's slightly jealous of Nonna's large breasts, as she tries to pretend she has a pair of her own.
* AnalogyBackfire: Suggests that her terms for ÅŒarai's surrender are generous because she has a heart as large as the Siberian plain. Nonna then asks her if that means her heart is extremely cold.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: WordOfGod (via {{Twitter}}) has it that she got her position because she fired the winning shot during last year's finals.
* BrilliantButLazy: She's a superb commander, but she'll negotiate a ceasefire so she can take a nap.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: It bears repeating: a school like Pravda would likely never normally have a commander as self-absorbed, infantile, insecure, and bad tempered as Katyusha... except that she really is just that good.
* CuteLittleFangs: They just peek out, probably accenting her cocky nature.
* DefensiveFeintTrap: She's an expert at these. ÅŒarai's DarkestHour is caused by one of them.
* EvilCounterpart: To Anzu, in a sense of the OpposingSportsTeam. Aside from a certain haughtiness (like [[spoiler:rubbing Kuromorimine's defeat last year into Miho's face)]], which is largely explained by [[TheNapoleon her own insecurities]], she's yet to display any truly evil behavior. She's also shown to be lazy and relying on her HypercompetentSidekick.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Tends to be very bossy and arrogant, not to mention [[spoiler:rubbing the blame for Kuromorimine's loss last year to Miho]], but is nevertheless a decent kid at heart, whose attitude can be easily explained by [[NapoleonComplex her severe stature issues]]. ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' reveals that she is at least somewhat self-aware about it; whilst her raging Napoleon Complex is usually PlayedForLaughs, it's quite poignant when one thinks about it.

* TheNapoleon: She's very short and is not proud of it. Sometimes she has Nonna give her a piggyback so as to appear taller.
* NiceHat: Has a 1980s-vintage Soviet tank crewman's winter helmet which is a few sizes too big for her. In fact, it adds a good half a foot to her height, which is probably why she wears it (beyond it's practical value):

* RedBaron: "Snowdrift" Katyusha.
* SandInMyEyes: [[spoiler:Tried to deny to Nonna that she is about to break down crying after their semifinals loss.]]
* SweetTooth: Usually seen munching on sweets; some of them ending up on her cheek. She even eats jam directly without spreading it on bread or mixing it with tea! To [[ProperLady Darjeeling]], this ammounts to JabbaTableManners.
* TemptingFate: In the movie, she names the hill they were to capture "203 hill".[[note]] in reference to an important site during [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Port_Arthur the Siege of Port Arthur]][[/note]] The Hippo team, being history buffs, [[LampshadeHanging comments if she intends to lose]]. [[spoiler: Sure enough, her company almost gets annihilated by the [=UST=], and [[YouShallNotPass it takes Clara, Nina, and Nonna's units delaying the pursuing forces]] in order for Katyusha to escape.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: At her most egotistical, she even appends "-sama" to her own name.
* TinyTyrannicalGirl: The shortest girl in the series, a BrattyHalfPint threatening serious punishment and with a huge [[TheNapoleon height complex]].
* TokenMiniMoe: Shorter than even Anzu at a mere 127cm ([[TheNapoleon and incredibly insecure about it]]).
* YouHaveFailedMe:
** Katyusha warns her teammates that, should they be get taken out, they'll be punished with... 25 days of supplementary classes in a dark classroom. It's unlikely she is serious about that -- after all, sacrificing a few tanks in a DefensiveFeintTrap, as well as protecting the flag tank [[TakingTheBullet with the bodies of the other T-34s]], which implies getting taken out, were her own orders.
** In Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu's second omake, she and Nonna grill Nina about seeing Yukari and Erwin disguised as Pravda students in the fifth OVA. Thankfully, Nina pulls her coat over her head, making her seem even shorter than Katyusha.

----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She's [[HugeSchoolgirl tall]], [[BoobsofSteel stacked]], has dark hair and pale skin. She fits the personality as well, being a [[ServileSnarker loyal yet snarky]] CoolBigSis.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Taking care of Katyusha is hard.
* BoobsOfSteel: Among the most well-endowed girls in the entire cast, and one of the best gunners.
* TheCastShowOff: Creator/SumireUesaka is not only a foreign language major specializing in Russian, but is also a ''huge'' Russia otaku, so she understands her [[GratuitousForeignLanguage Gratuitous Russian]]. [[WordOfGod An official tweet]] even said that the "Cossack Lullaby" in Episode 9 was ad-libbed by Uesaka herself (the original script called for her to sing any lullaby).
* ColdSniper: Knocked out all of ÅŒarai's tanks that were hit during the match. [[spoiler:The flipping of the Pz.38(t) was particularly brutal.]]
* CoolBigSis: Serves this role towards the childlike Katyusha by keeping her line and also giving her piggyback rides.
* DeadpanSnarker: A particularly dry, literal variety:
-->'''Katyusha'''': Katyusha's has a big heart! As big as the Siberian plain!
-->'''Nonna''': So it's full of ice?
* EyeScream: Victim of an accidental poke in the eye by Katyusha. Luckily, she only needed to get eye drops from the nurse.
* GentleGiant: She's enough of a terror on the battlfield to deserve the nickname "Blizzard", but acts incredibly sweet and motherly around Katyusha, and has a beautiful singing voice.
* GratuitousRussian: Speaks it when conversing with Clara, which angers Katyusha as she can't speak it.
* HugeSchoolgirl: The tallest girl in the cast, with official materials listing her height as 172 cm. This fact is highlighted even further given how she's paired with the diminutive Katyusha.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Without Nonna , Katyusha would spend too much time napping and let her ego get away with her. Katyusha realizes this; when she discovers [[spoiler: that Nonna keeps a "Katyusha diary", she is ''terrified''.]]
* IsThatCuteKidYours: She occasionally gets mistaken for Katyusha's mother.
* MeaningfulName: Pravda's best gunner shares a name with a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2S9_Nona long-ranged killing machine]].
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite her serious and stoic demeanor, she enjoys fooling around with Katyusha in the bath.
* TheQuietOne: Rarely raises her voice, talks to Katyusha only to point things out (or [[ServileSnarker snark]] at her) and to others only to make (sincerely) polite noises.
* RedBaron: "Blizzard" Nonna.
* ServileSnarker: Katyusha’s second-in command, and the only person who can tell Katyusha to wipe her face, point out her ulterior motives and make fun of her analogies and get away with it without getting yelled at.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Seems aloof and detached most of the time, but shows a warmer side around Katyusha, and smiles when she and Katyusha greet Miho before the finals.
* TeamMom: Takes care of the child-sized Katyusha. In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', bystanders assume she ''is'' Katyusha's mother.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: It's not uncommon for her to be mistaken for a grown woman.

!!Nina

One of the crew members of Pravda's [[http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=210 KV-2]]. She appears in OVA 5.
----
* BadassAdorable: Smallest girl in the series, and one of the cutest. Her offhand mention about how reloading her KV 2's gun is tiring, however, shows that she's one of the loaders of the biggest (152mm howitzer), heaviest (40 kg ''each round'') gun seen in the entire series.
* CuteClumsyGirl: In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' she accidentally tips over and breaks Katyusha's statue. [[spoiler:''Twice.'']]
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: In the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' omake, she's handed a picture of Yukari, and recognizes her from near the tank. She then remarks aloud about what she's wearing (the picture of her is in an Oarai uniform), and realizes that she had talked to an Oarai student.
* NiceHat: While other characters in the show wear ushankas, Nina has this as a character identifier.
* OcularGushers: When she realizes that Katyusha and Nonna have learned of her leaking intel and are going to punish her.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: One of the smallest and youngest girl in the series is in charge of loading a ''152 mm howitzer with 40 kilogram shells''. In the movie, She and her co-loader are able to load three of those rounds in ''30 seconds''[[note]]From a technical standpoint, 3-4 rounds in one minute for the 152 mm gun is already pretty good[[/note]].
* SempaiKohai: Mistakes a disguised Yukari and Erwin for her seniors, indicating that she's likely a first-year.
* ServileSnarker: Likes to gossip about Katyusha behind her back.
* SmallGirlBigGun: The KV-2 she crews packs the largest-caliber gun of any tank, even bigger than the main gun on Kuromorimine's ''Maus'' (152mm on the KV-2 vs 128mm on the Maus).
* YouHaveFailedMe: Despite escaping the wrath of Katyusha, it's assumed that she still suffered ''some'' kind of punishment in the ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' omake, as Nonna drags her away in the final panel.

Heavily associated with the famed Nishizumi family, they are renowned for winning the National Tournament 9 times in a row and came close to a 10-win streak [[spoiler:when an act of charity by Miho, then commanding their flag tank, towards the crew of a sinking friendly tank cost them the championship to Pravda]].

In the movie [[spoiler: They show up to aid ÅŒarai in the match against the University team, fielding Maho's Tiger I, Erika's Tiger II and two Panthers.]]
----
* DavidVersusGoliath: The most prominent example as far as all of Ooarai's enemies go. Kuromorimine has the advantage of having more and superior tanks, a more organized and experienced squad, and is led by ''the'' Nishizumi style heiress.
* TheDreaded: The school is highly renowned for being associated with the Nishizumi Style of Sensha-do, and prior to their loss the year before the storyline, won 9 straight national championships. No school underestimates Kuromorimine.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: The main antagonists of the series, although [[AntiVillain Maho]] fights for an ultimately selfless purpose, and they have considerable difficulty lightening up, as shown in Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu.
* GermanicDepressives: Most of the members that have been seen are quite serious most of the time.
* GermanicEfficiency: They incorporate this in their tank battles, and are good at going in formation.
** {{Blitzkrieg}}: Their strategy is a quick and direct offense to break enemy lines. Their initial strategy against Ooarai during the final match was to set up an ambush by going through a forest, causing Ooarai to be caught off guard.
* GratuitousGerman: Interestingly enough, unlike the other schools, most of this comes up in translations, rather than actual dialogue. The name of the school is typically either translated as "Black Forest Peak", "[[GratuitousJapanese Kuromorimine]]" or "Schwarzwaldspitze".
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Erika". Coincidentally apt due to one of the team's tank commanders.
* {{Unskilled But Strong}}/{{Crippling Overspecialization}}: They have the worst reaction of all the teams to Oarai's ConfusionFu tactics. It's clear that they've trained extensively to fight in formation while relying on the superiority of German heavy armor and cannons but fall apart when unable to do so.

!!Maho Nishizumi
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garupan_maho_7815.png]]
->''"As long as I'm the inheritor of the Nishizumi school, Miho will be free."''

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, Tiger I
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RieTanaka (Japanese), Kim Prause (english)

Miho's older sister, heir to the Nishizumi school of Sensha-do, and leader of Kuromorimine's teams. She commands from a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_I Tiger I]].
----
* TheAce: She's spent her entire life being groomed as the Nishizumi heir, and boy does it show. Both the main show and ''Little Army'' feature her being voted MVP at some tournament or other.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Miho. As early as ''Little Army'' Maho never fell for her sister's unconventional tactics. When someone brings up the Nishizumi around Miho, it's to compare her to her elder sister.
* AloofBigSister: She sometimes appears to treat Miho coldly, because she's the heiress to Nishizumi-style Sensha-do and so she can't go against her mother's edicts, no matter how much she secretly encourages Miho's path.
* AntiVillain: The "Villain in Name Only" variant, because deep down she genuinely cares for Miho and her chosen path in life, even if she has to overtly break her heart.
* BadassBoast: To Miho in ''Little Army'':
-->''The Nishizumi-school's ''Panzerkraft'' is "Always Advance". And it never loses.''
* BadassCreed
-->''"Nishizumi-ryuu Panzerkraft means [[{{Determinator}} always finding a way to move forward]]."\\
"There is no running away in the Nishizumi-style."'' (said just before [[spoiler: her duel with Miho]] begins in the finals)
* BeneathTheMask: Her [[EmotionlessGirl poker face]] is prominently shown throughout the anime -- mainly when her family is involved. ''Little Army'' shows us that she loves Miho dearly.
* BenevolentBoss: In Chapter 8 of "Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu", it's shown that while she's not as close to her troops as Miho, when they fear being held accountable for their mistakes, she reassures them that they followed her orders well, [[spoiler:and that if anyone, she is responsible for their loss]].
* BiggerStick: Her game plan in defeating Oarai was this. [[spoiler: Eight low-tier tanks against TWENTY high-tier tank destroyers, with one superheavy and almost indestructible tank, can be considered a {{Hopeless Boss Fight}}.]] When she was ordered to defeat Oarai, SHE WASN'T PLAYING AROUND.
* BrokenAce: A rare case of being ''intentionally'' broken. She follows the strict edicts of the Nishizumi Style of Sensha-do and upholds its creed all the time, thus becoming the sole heir of their family's traditional Sensha-do style. Because of this, she acts aloof, emotionless, and dismissive of Miho. [[spoiler:As noted at most of the other spoilered entries below, she does this because she cares for Miho, wants Miho to find her own style of Sensha-do, and not be constrained by the pressures of adhering to their family's "win-at-all-costs" belief. By the end of the anime, [[EarnYourHappyEnding her sacrifice pays off, and despite her loss, feels happy nonetheless.]]]]
* BusmansHoliday: Played with in ''Little Army''. She spent her entire summer break at the tournament, but gets some time out of school to compensate for that. She ends up getting in a tank match to help Emi reconcile with Miho and learn more about her, and is once shown coming home from helping out with Shiho.
* ByronicHeroine: Midway through Episode 10, she even does the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderer_above_the_Sea_of_Fog iconic "back to the viewer, lost in her thoughts" pose]] as straight as it can be played in front of an army of tanks instead of a turbulent sea of fog. That is: a lot.
* CombinationAttack: [[spoiler: The game winning strategy she executes with Miho in the movie is having her Tiger I shoot the Panzer IV from behind to give it a speed boost in order to take out Alice's Centurion.]]
* TheComicallySerious: In “Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu.”
-->'''Erika''': So you really mean today is a Christmas party, after all?
-->'''Maho''': Haven't I said that since the beginning?
* CoolBigSis: ''Little Army'' and the flashback in the movie reveal that she UsedToBeASweetKid, especially to Miho.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: She knows all about Miho's combat pragmatism and is aware that underdogs shouldn't be underestimated. She watched every one of Miho's matches in the tournament and her practice match against St.Gloriana.
* DeathGlare: Gives one to Katyusha in the movie.
* DeclarationOfProtection: ''"As long as I'm the inheritor of the Nishizumi school, Miho will be free."''
* {{Determinator}}: As mentioned above, this is a fundamental principle of the Nishizumi school of Sensha-do. [[spoiler: It also applies to her personally. She took up the mantle of school heiress so Miho would be free to find her own path.]]
* DeusExitMachina: In the last chapter of ''Little Army'', when Miho secludes herself inside a tank [[spoiler:while burdened with her doubts about continuing with Sensha-do and Emi's impending departure]], Sakuyo points out that Maho was usually the one to coax Miho out, but Maho has since returned to school.
* DuelBoss: [[spoiler: Careful ([[HeroicSacrifice and with high toll]]) maneuvering on Miho's part sets the fight into this instead of HopelessBossFight.]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After [[HeroicSacrifice sacrificing her own freedom to secure Miho's own]], only to [[NiceJobBreakingItHero fail when Miho followed her anyway]], a [[CrackDefeat last-minute loss to Pravda]], and being forced to [[LoveAcrossBattlelines fight against]] [[DeclarationOfProtection what she wanted for Miho]], she ''finally'' succeeds in [[GoalInLife helping Miho find happiness in her own path]].]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: A subtler example than most, but her decision to PetTheDog by [[spoiler:loaning Mako her team's helicopter despite Erika's protests]], and subsequent justification of it as also being part of Sensha-do, not only shows her kinder side, but also a belief that kind acts are not exclusive from adhering to [[SeriousBusiness the Nishizumi approach to Sensha-do]].
* {{Expy}}: To [[Manga/{{Saki}} Teru Miyanaga]]. But unlike her, Maho never disavows Miho's existence and even secretly encourages her path in life.
* FamedInStory: She's won MVP titles at every tournament she's in, she's the face of the Nishizumi style of Sensha-do, and only complete novices like Miho's crew do not know who she is. In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'', it is shown that she gets chocolate from both within Kuromorimine and from outside the school during Valentines Day.
* FinalBoss: Not only the head of the final opposing team, but she also commands the flag tank, [[spoiler:and her and Miho's tanks wind up facing each other one-on-one]].
* FriendlyEnemy: To Miho during the practice match, which was the result of a challenge Miho made in order to reconcile with Emi and help her learn more about Maho.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: She doesn't mind losing to Miho in the finals. After all, she won on a personal level -- to allow Miho to succeed in her own Sensha-do style.]]
* HeirToTheDojo: Raised in the Nizhizumi-Ryu and raised the school values (best described as CombatPragmatist meets SecondPlaceIsForLosers) to an art form, and in doing so was assigned as the official heir to the dojo.
* HeroicSacrifice: Metaphorical example; by becoming the perfect Nishizumi-style practitioner, she sacrifices her own sense of morality so Miho would be free to follow her heart.
* HiddenDepths: ''Little Army'' shows that she is a kinder individual than she first seems, especially toward Miho [[spoiler:for whose sake she strives to live up to being the Nishizumi heir]]. ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' shows that she's somewhat socially awkward (but better at hiding it than Miho is because she's more confident) and has difficulty lightening up.
* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler: Downplayed, but she could have simply waited for Erika to force the rest of Kuoromorimine's tanks past Ooarai's wrecked Tiger(P) and avoided Team Anglerfish's Panzer IV until then, all but guaranteeing her victory. Instead, she engages Miho one on one rather than run away. Again, there is not such a thing as a strategic retreat in the Nishizumi-style! On a more subtle level, dueling Miho one on one also gives her sister the chance to show how good a tank commander she is and how effective her style is.]]
* IceQueen: She seems very cold and distant, but ''Little Army'' confirms that this is just an act to complete her image as the Nishizumi family heir.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: In ''Little Army'', when Miho asks her if she [[spoiler:ordered her tank to fire on Emi's older sister's team's flag tank when it went to rescue another tank from Maho's team]]. There is some indication that she may be pretending this is the case, as she seems pained when it it is first brought up.
-->"...Miho. What I did was in tune with the Nishizumi-style. [[spoiler:I gave the order to shoot]]."
* JerkassFacade: She's forced to act abrasively towards her little sister in order to allow her to follow her style. During ''Little Army'', she's friendly toward Miho until Shiho arrives, at which point she has to coldly brush off Miho when she asks about her decision to shoot the enemy flag tank that was trying to save her teammate. After Miho summons the nerve to ask their mother about the necessity of such an action, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness which Maho noted was unlike her]], she later privately apologizes to her for her sudden change in attitude.
* TheLancer: To Miho in the movie.
* TheLeader: Of Kuromorimine. Like her sister, she overlaps in the types: planning ([[spoiler: hide a Maus in the town in case Miho tried to force UrbanWarfare]]), levelheaded (TheStoic), and charismatic (the perfect Nishizumi style practioner).
* MeaningfulName: Most likely the Nishizumi clan is related to Nishizumi Kojiro, a famous tank hero during the Sino-Japanese War.
* MsFanservice: Although not apparent in the Anime, [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/216449/girls-und-panzer-motto-love-love-sakusen-desu_ch8_by_ak-scanlations/8 chapter 8]] of the second spin-off shows that she can fill a sexy Christmas-themed dress quite well.
* NervesOfSteel: ''Never'' panics or loses her composure. It's rare for her to even raise her voice.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Implied. [[spoiler:For all her efforts in keeping Miho from the pressures associated to being a Nishizumi, this is all came to naught when Miho follows her into Kuromorimine anyway.]]
* NiceToTheWaiter: She's friendly and courteous to the Nishizumi family maids, in contrast to her mother.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she is seen as a stern, yet calm leader of Kuromorimine's Sensha-do team, chapter 8 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen'' portrays her as this (See below entry.)
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Around the time her mother is [[spoiler:considering disowning Miho]], Maho starts more openly expressing her opinion on matters when such opinions go against Shiho, when this would be almost unthinkable for her before.
** Played for laughs in the second spin-off manga. She acts friendly toward her teammates in the holiday party, [[spoiler:which takes place after their defeat in the finals]]. Unfortunately, they notice that she's not acting like herself and (mistakenly) fear that she’s planning to hold a review meeting to take them to task for their mistakes.
* PetTheDog
** Allows her team chopper to [[spoiler:carry Mako quickly to the hospital to see her bedridden grandmother]].
** When Shiho seems ready to conclude that Pravda will beat Ooarai, Maho asks her to stay, convinced Miho has a chance to turn it around, which indicates that she thinks more of her and Ooarai's potential than she lets on, as does her statement that the win was a result of her own skill, rather than her opponent's carelessness.
** In ''Little Army'', she gives Emi some ointment after she hits her head on the inside of the tank. Emi, who had previously hated her, takes note of the action, and begins to warm up to Maho.
* TheStoic: She rarely shows emotion, as befits the heir of the Nishizumi school. [[NotSoStoic The one time she lets her facade slip when she's trying not to]] is when she sees that Miho has brought her friends over in order to ask her mother [[spoiler:whether it was necessary for her to fire on the flag tank that was rescuing her teammates]]. Her expression turns surprised as she says "Miho...". Then there's her idea of [[spoiler: a Christmas party invitation (See entry below). Cue terrified members of Kuromorimine's Sensha-do Team.]]
* TerseTalker: In her e-mails, as shown in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen''. ("Those without anything for Christmas, come.")
* TragicHeroine: [[spoiler: It's revealed at the end of ''Little Army'' that the reason she puts on her JerkassFacade is to free ''Miho'' from the constrictive Nishizumi-style Sensha-do, so she can find her own way, only for it to be voided when Miho takes up the style anyways between prequel and anime and then quitting Sensha-do altogether. Then she is forced to confront her sister while wearing the JerkassFacade she put on trying to protect her. Thankfully, in the end, Miho succeeds and declares that she has found her own way of Sensha-do]]
* UngratefulBitch: What Emi thought of her orders to [[spoiler:shoot down the enemy flag tank en route to rescuing one of ''her own'' teammates]]. Dowplayed, in that she seems genuinely remorseful over that.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: ''Little Army'' and the movie reveal this, both in her interactions with Miho until their mother returns home (in the manga), and flashbacks showing the two as young children. As she gets older, she adopts a more aloof facade, but still cares for Miho as much as ever.
* VillainRespect: When [[AbusiveParents Shiho]] attributes Ooarai's success [[spoiler:against Pravda]] to blind luck and the enemy's carelessness, she openly disagrees and explicitly atributes it to Miho's intellect and Ooarai's motivation and teamwork spirit. In the practice match against Miho in ''Little Army'', she seems pleased when Miho manages to avoid a few of her shots.
* WalkingSpoiler: A fair number of her tropes are spoilers, particularly [[spoiler:how she truly feels about Miho]].
* [[WellDoneSonGuy "Well done, Daughter" Gal]]: Maho appears to be striving solely for her mother's approval, but it turns out that she has an ulterior motive for doing so- so that Miho can live her own way.
* WhamLine: [[spoiler:Admitting to shooting the flag tank during its rescue mission]] in ''Little Army''.
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Quite possibly her reaction to her mother telling her that [[spoiler:shooting the German flag tank]] was the right thing to do, since she doesn't seem at all happy about it.

----
* AdaptationalVillainy:
** She's not exactly sweetness and light in the anime, but she's far more hostile and openly cruel to Miho in Chapter 15 of the manga, a scene that only happens in that adaptation.
** This also comes into play in the light novel. Her attitude and actions regarding Miho come off as even worse when you consider that [[spoiler:she was among those saved as a result of Miho's decision, making her come off as [[UngratefulBastard terribly ungrateful]].]]
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: She's pretty smug about both being in Kuromorimine and a follower of the Nishizumi Style of Sensha-do, to the point of calling Miho's approach "heretical and insulting to the Nishizumi style." She outright tells Miho to not get too confident because she thinks all of Miho's victories were a fluke and that Kuromorimine will "crush her heresy."
* ButtMonkey: Seems to be going this way in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', from getting an Anglerfish Dance suit in Chapter 9 to getting lost with Miho as a result of losing her cell phone and falling asleep on the bus in Chapter 12.
* CharacterDevelopment: For most of the anime, she's a spiky ball of hatred, but her [[spoiler: graceful acceptance of defeat suggests at some decency, and her appearance in chapter 12 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' suggests she's matured quite a bit since then. Finally, in the film she shows up together with Maho (dressed in Oorai's uniform!!) to give Miho much needed help in her match with the University Team and after Oorai's victory is shown smiling and letting a rejoicing Katyusha ride on her shoulders. ** Also gives one to Miho when she asks if Erika [[spoiler: "got left behind without everyone noticing"]] in Chapter 12 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu''.

Or possibly she used the panthers as a ramp. As Oorai did with the Hetzer.]] The mind boggles.
* TheDragon: She's Maho's NumberTwo, and because of Kuromorinmine's status as the team to beat, she qualifies as the bad guy's champion.
* TheDriver: In addition to piloting Kuoromorinmine's helicopter, she is also briefly seen driving their truck in the finale and the team's Zeppelin in the movie.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Immediately greets Miho with a sarcastic reference about being her predecessor as vice-captain. While leaving, she suggests that ÅŒarai is definitely going to lose, with the only question being how badly, and should not even have entered the tournament.
* EtTuBrute: Mentions in her speech to Miho in the manga that she feels betrayed by Miho's decision to abandoned Kuromorimine and join Oarai.
-->''You're awfully calm for someone who stabbed us in the back like that...During the tournament raffle, when you appeared as ÅŒarai's representative. What a commotion you caused among our comrades. How do you think I felt in that moment? Our commander was there too.''
* {{Expy}}: To [[{{Manga/Saki}} Sumire Hirose]], as the sidekick to the main rival team's leader. [[spoiler:She's also not able to do the cool things in the battle because her opponents do their best to thwart her.]] Alternatively, she could be considered one to Awai, as a result of having a considerable ego and [[spoiler:failing at a few crucial points for the team]].
* {{Foil}}: To Yukari. Yukari likes Nishizumi ''Miho'' while Erika likes ''Nishizumi'' Maho (notice the emphasis). Erika quotes Guderian, while Yukari would like to claim Guderian as a ''nom de guerre''.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: [[spoiler:The series director vowed there would be no PantyShot in the series, but dared the animation team to go and try to sneak one in. * GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: In Manga Chapter 15, when announcing that she will crush Miho.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: After her VillainousBreakdown during the final match over her tank falling to a tactical trap and shock at seeing Maho's flag tank disabled, she was last seen in a calmer mood and wearing a smile of resignation, vowing to ÅŒarai that [[WeWillMeetAgain the next time they meet it will be Kuromorimine's time to shine]].]]
** In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', [[spoiler: she and Miho mend fences over a cake]], suggesting she managed to come to terms with it.
* HumiliationConga: Episode 11-- [[SmugSnake big on ego, but lacking Maho's discipline]], she gets increasingly infuriated as the "nobodies" from ÅŒarai [[SpannerInTheWorks keep making unpredictable moves]], leading her to make more and more amateur mistakes. [[spoiler:She ends up trying to chase ÅŒarai by herself before her Tiger throws a track and lands ignominiously in a ditch, leaving her unable to do much more than [[VillainousBreakdown throw a temper tantrum on national TV]].]]
* {{Jerkass}}: Insults Miho, insults ÅŒarai, acts all arrogant and protests one of Maho's pet the dog moments.
* KickTheDog:
** In addition to her insults toward Miho, she ''protests'' Maho's PetTheDog moment. From this moment you know she's a jerkass. [[spoiler: It's not clear if Kuoromorimine's helicopter is Maho's to give, and she was the one who had to fly it.]]
** In the manga, she flies over to Oarai to give Miho a brutal TheReasonYouSuckSpeech. It's possible that she had been ''holding back'' while Maho was around.
* MsFanservice: Just like her superior, she has quite the appropriate proportions, as evident when she [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/216449/girls-und-panzer-motto-love-love-sakusen-desu_ch8_by_ak-scanlations/21 wore the infamous Anglerfish Dance outfit]] in Chapter 8 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen''.
* OhCrap: [[spoiler:When she saw Miho defeating Maho. Also when her track snaps, denying her the winning shot of the battle ''again''.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: So, it's Christmas, and Maho is having a party. Everyone else from Kuoromorimine [[GermanicDepressives turns up in their school uniforms.]] Erika, the prim, serious, abrasive, and haughty vice-captain turns up wearing...[[spoiler: a ridiculous novelty reindeer costume.]]
* PetTheDog: In Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu Chapter 12, she compliments Miho and buys her a cake, after the two get lost together and are forced to work together to find their way back to their respective school carriers.
-->'''Erika''': You've come to the point where I can call you quite something... Miss Kommandant!
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: In Chapter 15 of the manga, [[spoiler:she delivers a long and angry speech against Miho, calling her out on her decision to save the tank and accusing her of acting without consideration for her school]].
* SeriousBusiness:
** For Erika, victory is the only thing that matters. {{Graceful Loser}}s are "too laid back". Incidentally, that's the core rule of the Nishizumi Sensha-do school.
-->''(To Miho, right before the finals)'' [[BadassBoast "I'll crush your heresy."]]
** The Light Novel adaptation reveals that she will even place victory over her own physical safety (and by extension that of her crew); [[spoiler: she was in the tank Miho rescued in the previous final. She would rather ''risk drowning than risk Kuromorimine losing''.]]
* ShutUpKirk
** In the anime.
-->'''Yukari''': "[[WithDueRespect If I may say something]], I don't think Miho-san's decision was incorrect in the match we had."
-->'''Erika''': "I think someone needs to mind their own business."
-->'''Yukari''': "I'm sorry."
** In the manga, she does an angrier variant.
-->'''Yukari''': And those who like Panzerkraft and those who start to...
-->'''Erika''': OUTSIDERS STAY QUIET!
* SkewedPriorities: As revealed in the Light Novel, when she says victory is the ''only'' thing that matters, she means it. [[spoiler: Drowning inside your Panzer III? Meh. Losing the national finals and not winning ten in a row because your team-mate comes to rescue you? ''Unacceptable!'']]
* SmugSnake: Maho appears to be the only person she treats with a modicum of respect.
* TantrumThrowing: [[spoiler: When she was unable to use her main gun against ÅŒarai, she fires her tank's machine gun at them in frustration over not being able to retaliate while they disappear from the smoke.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: When forced to work together with Miho after the two get lost in chapter 12 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu''. They unclench by the end.
* [[UngratefulBastard Ungrateful Bitch]]: The ending of the last light novel reveals that she [[spoiler: was in the tank whose crew Miho rescued from drowing at the cost of a victory]]. She shows no gratitude for it [[spoiler: until after her GracefulLoser moment]] but instead acts like a total {{Jerkass}} towards [[spoiler: her rescuer]] (see the rest of her tropes for abundant examples).
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:When her Tiger II suffers a breakdown in Episode 11 due to no reason other than being a [[ShownTheirWork historically]] breakdown-prone Tiger II, she curses, screams, raises her fists and stomps the ground; on national TV.]]
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Silver-haired, and one of the nastiest opponents in the series.

[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jagdpanther-chan_4645.jpg]]
-->''"We just fixed that! ({{beat}}) Hey! Those tracks were heavy!"''

The [[NoNameGiven unnamed]] commander of a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdpanther Jagd]][[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin panther]] in Kuromorimine vs. ÅŒarai, whose tracks Anzu destroys twice. [[spoiler:Joins ÅŒarai in the movie as part of the Kuromorimine reinforcements aboard a Panther.]]
----
* AscendedMeme: In Chapter 8 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen '', she shows up late to Maho's holiday party.
-->'''Jagdpanther Commander''': Fuu~ made it on time.
-->'''[[spoiler: Panzer VIII Maus]] Commander''': "Made it on time"? Like hell you did! Read the mood!
* ButtMonkey: Her role is comedic abuse (or rather, abuse on behalf of her tank).
* {{Determinator}}: She fixes her tracks ''twice'' in the same match in time to form alongside Maho.
* MissFixit: She (and presumably her crew as well) works very hard to repair her tank's tracks in record time to return to battle.
* MyNewGiftIsLame: She's horrified and traumatized to receive the model of the tank that caused her so much trouble in the finals, but noticing that Maho is looking her way, hides those feelings and says she's grateful to Miho.
* ImpersonationGambit: She's in the receiving end of this when Turtle Team then [[spoiler:takes Jagdpanther-chan's intended position in Kuromorimine's battle line.]]
* MilkingTheGiantCow: Her reaction at the above (also see her first quote).
* NoNameGiven: Hence the FanNickname "Jagdpanther-chan". In Pixiv, she was designated as "Ritaiko" (aka "Track Girl").

-->''"I've been worried ever since you left. Since we caused problems for you, and everything... But I'm glad you didn't quit Sensha-do, Miho-san."''

A member of the Kuromorimine Sensha-do team [[spoiler:whom Miho saved from drowning in the last tournament. Also joins ÅŒarai in the movie as part of the Kuromorimine reinforcements aboard a Panther.]]
----
* FriendlyEnemy: Despite being on an opposing side, she’s glad that Miho’s still doing Sensha-do.
* IOweYouMyLife: [[spoiler: She is grateful to Miho for saving her, as Yukari predicted]].
* ItsAllMyFault: She blamed herself for Miho leaving Kuromorimine.
* NiceGirl: She’s cheerful, friendly and grateful toward Miho.
* NoNameGiven: Her name is not revealed anywhere in the series itself, and instead is first revealed in one of the card extras from the Blu-Rays.
* OnlySaneMan: The only one of Maho's guests who doesn't obsess about her mistakes during the holiday party, and the only one who immediately recognizes the holiday party for what it is.
* TearsOfJoy: You can see them in her eyes when she says she's glad Miho didn't quit Sensha-do.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: She seems to see herself as such, [[spoiler:given that the fallout from Miho saving her and her crew resulted in Miho leaving]].
* WalkingSpoiler: Her entire character is based around a fairly significant plot point.

!![[spoiler:[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_VIII_Maus Panzer VIII Maus]]]]
Kuromorimine's secret weapon, which they bring out for the finals of the tournament. This is the only non-ÅŒarai tank to be treated as a character.
----
* AttackItsWeakPoint: [[spoiler: Taken down for good by Hana firing at the air slits on the back.]]
* BonusBoss: A non-video game example. It's a tougher-than-the-FinalBoss obstacle that could have been avoided.
* TheDreaded: Even Katyusha is intimidated by seeing it.
* FluffyTheTerrible: One of its WWII designers had a... sense of humor. This is {{Lampshaded}} by one of its victims.
--> '''Sodoko:''' "What's so '[[spoiler:mouse]]' about something that big?!"
* HeroKiller: It has the best record of taking out ÅŒarai tanks of any single opposing tank. [[spoiler:Mallard and Hippo Team are taken down, and Turtle Team is damaged to the point of collapse in the process of defeating it.]]
* TheJuggernaut: Its armor is so strong that ÅŒarai's tanks can't hurt it. Five of them fire simultaneously but it shrugs off the shots and continues moving. [[spoiler: Miho's plan to defeat it includes stopping it as step 1. She had to shove Turtle Team under its tracks and then direct Duck Team over Turtle to block its turret]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Panzerlied".
* MightyGlacier: It shrugs off everything ÅŒarai can throw at it and can take any of them out with one hit (even near misses can toss their tanks around), but is ''very'' slow.
* WalkingSpoiler: The nature of this tank is a big deal for the FinalBattle.

* DavidVersusGoliath All of them have an advantage over ÅŒarai's Sensha-do team, yes even Anzio has a numerical advantage.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: They become friends with ÅŒarai's Sensha-do team after losing to them.
* DreamTeam: [[spoiler: The best high school Sensha-do practitioners working together in the movie.]]
* NationalStereotypes: Invoked with each school, even though they are all ethnically Japanese. To elaborate, St. Gloriana is Britain, Saunders is America, Pravda is Russia, Anzio is Italy, and Kuromorimine is Germany.

* BadassCreed:
--> ''"Be elegant at all times". This is St. Gloriana's sensha-do.''
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: They are always shown drinking tea even while in a match.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvU8LaE0-xw The British Grenadiers]].

-->'''Pekoe''': I don't think we'll match Darjeeling-sama in our lifetime...
-->'''Assam''': Darjeeling-sama, prepare yourself!
-->'''Darjeeling''': ''Surprise.''
* FanOfUnderdog: Towards ÅŒarai.
* LadyOfWar: Lampshaded by herself.

!!Assam

->'''Position:''' Gunner, Churchill Mk. VII

->'''Position:''' Loader, Churchill Mk. VII

->''"You can't run away from the top speedster of St. Gloriana!"''

->'''Position:''' Tank Commander, Crusader
->'''Voiced by:''' Natsumi Takamori

----
* {{Eagleland}}: Saunders has distinctive American traits, such as being rich, using GratuitousEnglish, and mostly relying on numbers as their Sensha-do style.
->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, M4 Sherman

* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Saves Alisa from ÅŒarai's pursuit.]]
-->''"Exciting!"''
-->''"That's'' Sensha-do!"''
-->''"This is ''Sensha-do'', not war."''

->''"Confidence and enthusiasm!"''

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, Carro Armato P 26/40
->'''Voiced by:''' Maya Yoshioka (Japanese)

* GeneralFailure:
* HiddenDepths:
* {{Jerkass}}:
* RedBaron: "Il Duce"
* SecondPlaceIsForLosers:

* {{Foil}}: She contrasts with Anchovy (both manga and anime versions) in that while both look down on Miho and insult her decision to [[spoiler:save one of her tanks at the cost of the tournament win]], Anchovy strives for victory out of a feeling of responsibility to her comrades, but Katyusha mainly does it for the sake of her own pride, and [[spoiler:Manga-Anchovy is a SoreLoser while Katyusha is a GracefulLoser]]
* FreudianExcuse: A flashback in ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'' indicates that some of her schoolmates didn't take her seriously because of her height.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: Mentions that she not angry at losing to ÅŒarai.]]
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: [[spoiler: Due to her laziness and overconfidence, she gave Oarai three hours worth of ceasefire. This allowed them to recuperate, repair their damaged tanks, send spies to pinpoint the location of each of Pravda's tanks and create a strategy for a counterattack. Lampshaded by Shiho that Oarai's victory was due to Pravda's carelessness.]]
-->(*imagining the contents of Nonna's "Katyusha Diary", ''terrified'' about it): ''"Cheeky despite being small: plus 50 rubles."''
* KneelBeforeZod: Her ultimatum to the cornered ÅŒarai. It has a FreudianExcuse.
* MeaningfulName: Shares a name with the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyusha_rocket_launcher ''Katyusha'' Rocket launcher platform]]. [[spoiler: Can also be seen riding in one prior to their match with ÅŒarai Academy.]]
-->'''Pekoe''': Why does Katyusha have a toaster hat?
-->'''Darjeeling''': [[IncrediblyLamePun To keep her head toasty.]]
* NoBadassToHisValet: Nina tends to make fun of Katyusha's childish tendencies when a disguised Erwin and Yukari, whom she mistakes for her seniors, bring her up.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Seriously, would ''you'' believe she's in high school?
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** When congratulating ÅŒarai, she ''gets off Nonna's shoulders''.
** In ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu'', after she accidentally [[EyeScream pokes Nonna in the eyes]] while trying to regain her hold on her head, she is horrified and apologizes profusely.
* RedBaron: "Snowdrift" Katyusha.
* YouHaveFailedMe:

Pravda's second-in-command. Initially commands a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-34#T-34-85 T-34/85]] during the semifinals against ÅŒarai, then switches to the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iosef_Stalin_tank#IS-2 IS-2]] later during the same match.
----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She's [[HugeSchoolgirl tall]], [[BoobsofSteel stacked]], has dark hair and pale skin.
* MeaningfulName: Pravda's best gunner shares a name with a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2S9_Nona long-ranged killing machine]].
* RedBaron: "Blizzard" Nonna.
----

!!Nina
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ninagup_7393.jpg]]

----
[=OVA=]

->'''Position:''' Squadron Commander/Tank Commander, Tiger I
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RieTanaka (Japanese), Kim Prause (english)

* BadassCreed
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
* PetTheDog

->''"I find you participating in Sensha-do 'rude'. You're just some no-name school. There's an unspoken rule that everyone knows: schools that will just embarrass Sensha-do should stay out of the tournament."''

->'''Position:''' Tank Commander, Tiger II/Pilot, Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 Helicopter
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HitomiNabatame (Japanese), Elizabeth Bannor (English)

Maho's vice-captain. Commands a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_II Tiger II]] during Kuromorimine vs ÅŒarai. She also pilots Kuromorimine's [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focke-Achgelis_Fa_223 Focke-Achgelis Fa 223]] helicopter.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy:
She has really matured quite a bit.]]
* CryCute: In the manga, [[spoiler:after losing to Oarai]].
* DeathGlare: She's very good at these. She gives one to Kuomei Akeboshi in the anime when she [[spoiler: thanks Miho for rescuing her in the previous finals.]]
** Also gives one to Miho when she asks if Erika [[spoiler: "got left behind without everyone noticing"]] in Chapter 12 of ''Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu''.
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler: Admittedly it's largely born out of panic, but when Maho ends up facing Miho's tank alone, Erika somehow manages to force her 70-ton Tiger II ''over'' the wreckage of a Jagdpanther, a Panther, and Leopon Team's wrecked Tiger(P) to try and reach her.
* KickTheDog:
* SeriousBusiness:
* ShutUpKirk
** In the anime.
-->'''Yukari''': "[[WithDueRespect If I may say something]], I don't think Miho-san's decision was incorrect in the match we had."
-->'''Erika''': "I think someone needs to mind their own business."
-->'''Yukari''': "I'm sorry."
** In the manga, she does an angrier variant.
-->'''Yukari''': And those who like Panzerkraft and those who start to...
-->'''Erika''': OUTSIDERS STAY QUIET!

-->'''Jagdpanther Commander''': Fuu~ made it on time.
-->'''[[spoiler: Panzer VIII Maus]] Commander''': "Made it on time"? Like hell you did! Read the mood!

* {{Leitmotif}}: "Panzerlied".
* MightyGlacier: It shrugs off everything ÅŒarai can throw at it and can take any of them out with one hit (even near misses can toss their tanks around), but is ''very'' slow.
* WalkingSpoiler: The nature of this tank is a big deal for the FinalBattle.

[[folder:Chi-Ha-Tan Academy]]

A school shown in the movie, little is definitively known about this academy, except for it's extensive use of the Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank. It was also the first school to be [[CurbStompBattle annihilated]] by Kuromorimine in the main series.

Their role is somewhat expanded upon in the movie's beginning [[spoiler: in which they participate in a exhibition match allied with ÅŒarai against St. Gloriana and Pravda. Unfortunately, they lose the match, having lost the bulk of their forces because of their strategy [[LeeroyJenkins (or lack of thereof)]].]]

----
* BigDamnHeroes: Members of all schools get a spoilerific BigDamnHeroes moment at a certain crucial point, but in the case of Chi-Ha-Tan, it involves ''their whole team, including reserves''.
* ChekhovsGunman: They are the first team [[CurbStompBattle defeated (or more like crushed)]] by [[FinalBoss Kuromorimine]] in the anime, albeit off-screen.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: See StealthPun and VisualPun below.
* HonorBeforeReason: their school's traditions dictate that all battles must end with a wild charge against the enemy and, oh boy, do they respect them!
* HotBlooded: Fitting of a school that lives and dies by [[LeeroyJenkins bum rushing opponents without any semblance of strategy]] [[SelfDestructiveCharge or self preservation.]]
* LeeroyJenkins / SelfDestructiveCharge: No bloody wonder why they lost, even if it's to [[TheDreaded Kuromomine]]. Chi-Ha's philosophy is dead focused on charging blindly into the fray [[FatalFlaw with no semblance of self-preservation]]. [[spoiler: In the beginning of the movie, this flaw arguably costs them and ÅŒarai the match, as they rush a seemingly cordoned off Darjeeling (along with 3 other units) only to lose the bulk of their forces outright, while later Nishi charges after a comms breakdown and mishears the command.]] Since they are an heavy Japanese-themed school and they repeatedly stress that they do so to uphold their traditions, this also counts as an ironic ShoutOut (very unusual in a Japanese piece of fiction) to [[KatanasoftheRisingSun the war ethos of the Japanese Armed Forces during WWII]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''Yuki no Shingun''/''The Snow March''. Interestingly, Erwin and Yukari were previously heard singing it while doing recon in the Pravda match.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler: In the latter part of the movie, they realize that recklessly engaging opponents would only be detrimental to ÅŒarai's victory and start to employ ambush tactics together with Duck team against the university teams. They manage to take out a significant portion of the opposition before being taken out by Alice's Centurion.]]
* StealthPun: Their name strongly resembles ''shimapan'' (blue-and-white horizontally stripped panties). See also VisualPun below.
* TrueCompanions: To a degree second only, ''maybe'', to Oarai Team. When [[spoiler:Oarai was forced into a 8 vs 30 battle]], the other schools [[spoiler:sent [[BigDamnHeroes some tanks]]]], crewed by their commanders or by those who were friends with [[spoiler: the Oarai girls]], [[TheCavalry in their help]]; the process involved [[spoiler:a "[[LoopholeAbuse short termn transfer]] of schools]]. Chi-Ha-Tan sent '''twenty-two''' tanks (and a sensha-do team usually involves a maximum of ''20'' tanks), meaning that their [[spoiler:rescue team]] made up of those who considered themselves friends enough of the rescued ones to get involved in all that trouble was ''the entire team''.
* VisualPun: Their logo strongly resembles ''shimapan'' (blue-and-white horizontally stripped panties). See also StealthPun above.

* LeeroyJenkins: The best example of this in the movie. She's always the first to charge towards opponents and seems to not go a sensha-do match without charging blindly towards the opponent. * AntiVillain: Like Maho, she is Type IV: a "villain in name only". She doesn't hold any malice or grudge against Ooarai, and is only doing what she was tasked to do. Her only request for participating is that her mother be the sponsor for the Boko Museum if she wins.
* {{Badass}}: She's a very capable tactician who more than gave the high school team a run for their money. [[spoiler: Once she personally joins the battle, she takes out ''half of the high school team's tanks'' '''by herself'''.]]
* BadassCreed: Her favorite character Boko Bear's main trait of how he'll fight again and again no matter how many times he gets beaten, is her personal creed. [[ThemeMusicPowerUp Boko's character song is her own personal battle song]].
* ChekhovsGunman: The Shimada school of Sensha-do is mentioned in passing in the Anzio OVA. It turns out that the Shimada school has a sort of rivalry with the Nishizumi school.
* ChildProdigy: She's a university student at the age of ''twelve''. She's also implied to be the best sensha-do practitioner in the university level.
* CompositeCharacter: Of the Nishizumi sisters. She's adorable, shy, somewhat socially awkward, and loves Boko dolls like Miho. She's also a calm and calculating tactician, the best sensha-do practitioner in the University Teams, and is [[HeirToTheDojo the heiress of the Shimada-school]] which is her resemblance to Maho.
* CuteBruiser: Small? Check. Adorably shy? Check. [[spoiler:Good enough to take out half of the enemy team by herself? Check, check and check.]]
* DuelBoss: [[spoiler: The final tank battle has her pitted against the Nishizumi sisters. In a way, it can be said that the final battle was the Shimada-style of sensha-do against the Nishizumi-style of sensha-do.]]
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: She LOVES Boko, a trait she shares with Miho.
-->(From the movie drama CD, her team-mates ask Alice about her first love)
-->''Boko''
-->("Who else?")
-->''Miho''
-->("Isn't that a girl? What do you like about Miho")
-->''Miho also likes Boko''
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler: She personally congratulates Miho for winning against her and even awards her the rare Boko stuff toy from the Boko Museum that Miho let her have as a medal.]]
* FamedInStory: There's a magazine article about her being able to defeat adult sensha-do practitioners in the movie
* HeirToTheDojo: She's the sole inheritor of the Shimada-school of Sensha-do.
* HomoeroticSubtext: PlayedForLaughs, but ''absolutely [[IncrediblyLamePun straight]]'' when the Bermuda Trio (the team's three company commanders) actually mistake her interest towards Miho with romantic attraction[[note]]see details above under GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals; that the three of them were [[HardDrinkingPartyGirl more than a bit tipsy]] at the time didn't help either[[/note]]; when they learn moments later that she specifically wants to be her ''friend'', their sigh of relief is actually [[PlayedForLaughs louder than their usual voices]].
* KnightOfCerebus: [[spoiler:As soon she enters into battle, the whole cheerful sound suddenly change and turns more dramatic action as she begin to make a few scores.]]
* TheLeader: Of the university teams. Like the Nishizumi sisters, she overlaps all types; being the lead strategist, a levelheaded individual, and charismatic enough that her much older subordinates respect her and follow her orders without question.
* NotSoDifferent: Besides being a CompositeCharacter of the Nishizumis, her primary motivation to fight Oarai is to save a place she cherishes from being closed down from a lack of support, in this case the Boko Museum.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: She may be young, but don't let that fool you, she's one amazing tank tactician.
* RousingSpeech: Of sorts. When her subordinates start to waver due to the high school team's tactics and their ability to outmaneuver them, Alice starts to sing Boko's character song. They immediately regain their spirits because their leader is now joining the battle and start their counterattack. This is similar to how Miho sang and danced The Anglerfish Song to raise her team's spirit in the anime.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Refuses to lodge an objection when ÅŒarai suddenly has 22 tanks show up on the day of the match which was well within her rights. After all it would not reflect well on her and her team if she did, it would imply that they had no stomach for a real fight.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp / BadassCreed: If you hear her singing the Boko Bear song at top of her lungs, you know things are getting serious.
* TheStoic: She never loses her cool during the match even as her strategies fail and shows a cold, stone faced expression while taking down opposing tanks left and right.
* WorthyOpponent: By the later stages of the match, she states that the high school teams are similar to Boko in that [[{{Determinator}} they keep getting back up despite being weaker.]] This prompts her to personally join the battle. [[spoiler: The Alice War [=OVA=] shows that she changed her mind about going to ÅŒarai High school because she wouldn't be able to fight Miho anymore if they became team mates.]]
