The whole paragraph was stuffed full of feminist rhetoric, and totally unnecessary. People are here to read about the books, not "male privilege".

* StrawFeminist: Averted ''hard''. You really get the feeling the author (at least by the point of book 3) has educated himself in considerable depth about modern feminism and what exactly frustrates real feminists about men who are clueless about male privilege. He's certainly making a very commendable attempt at educating his audience. To the point where Locke's willingness to see things from Sabetha's viewpoint and his sheer level of ''getting it'' as a mere teenager stretches credibility more than a little - but let's put that down as part of the wish fulfillment fantasy.

* AlwaysSecondBest: She was being groomed for leadership of the gang before Locke came along. She carried a chip on her shoulder over this as a younger woman, but gradually got over it after Locke began to treat her more as an equal partner.
** The problem is that she actually ''isn't'' "second best" - she's objectively better than Locke at almost all the skills Father Chains trained them in, and the few that Locke is better at are more a matter of instinct and inborn talent for him, not the result of drive and hard work. Sabetha naturally concludes that Chains and the other boys decided the much younger Locke would be the gangs's future leader (as well as getting chosen for the full priesthood she desperately wanted, but which he didn't really care about) because he's male and they're living in a patriarchal society.[[note]] It's not quite NoWomansLand, but she does have a point. Camorr is considerably more patriarchal than the other societies introduced in later books. [[/note]]

* RefugeInAudacity: One of his greatest strengths is his sheer brazenness and his willingness to run cons and thefts that any other thief would consider stark madness. His fellow Bastards are in awe of him, but the smart ones don't even ''think'' about imitating "Locke Lamora games."
* TheReliableOne: Capa Barsavi thinks he's this. While he doesn't bring in the largest hauls, he will without fail fence his loot in the proper place, personally brings tribute to the Capa every week instead of sending a messenger, and is scrupulously honest about his take and not ashamed to apologize if it's been a lean week. The fact that Barsavi thinks this is, of course, one of Locke's biggest cons yet.
