* SummoningRitual: Is implied to be the one who pieced together the method to summon Salem and provided it to the Greycloaks.
* TeamKiller: [[spoiler:Killing his Sentinel is what provided the final amount of negativity to summon Salem.]]
* TheyCalledMeMad: Was exiled from Atlas for his questionable research into the Grimm.

!!Glenn Vuori
!!!'''Class''': Lancer

The Sentinel of Merlot, who aides him in his quest for godhood.

----

* AssholeVictim: It's hard to be sympathetic [[spoiler:when Merlot betrays and murders her]] given her willing complicity in the death of so many innocent Labour Caste, and her [[SmugSuper condescending attitude.]]
* BladeOnAStick: Fights with a spear.
* FlashStep: Her Passive skill allows her to instanly move toward where any spear she possess is at.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: [[spoiler:Was completely surprised by Merlot murdering her as the final sacrifice to summon Salem.]]
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Is in love with Merlot and fully supports him [[spoiler:in sacrificing the Labour Caste on the Fang to summon Salem.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Vuori" is Finnish for "mountain." So her name translates to "Mt Glenn".
* MoreDakka: Has a skill that allows her to create a plethora of ethereal spears to throw at enemies.
* ShoutOut: To the Mt Glenn incident not only in canon, but to the Grimm Eclipse game as well.

!!Arthur Watts
!!!'''Class''': Paladin

An ex-Hero and renegade of Atlas. He and Weiss share a history.

----

* AbsurdCuttingPower: His favored runic sword has the ability to cut through people and armor with little effort. [[spoiler:It loses the ability when Jaune uses his Blacksmithing skill to smudge one of the runes powering it, turning it into a mundane blade.]]
* BlindedByTheLight: [[spoiler:Jaune uses [[LightEmUp Salem]] to temporarily blind Watts before he can both kill Blake and stop her from assassinating Willow.]]
* BodyguardCrush: Was the Sentinel to Weiss' mother, [[spoiler:and became jealous and murderous when she fell in love with Weiss' father Jacques instead.]]
* CombatMedic: Is one of the few individuals with a healing Class who chose to attend a Hero academy rather than a specialized healer school.
* EyeScream: Loses an eye [[spoiler:courtesy of Blake with his own dagger.]]
* HealingHands: Has access to healing spells as a Paladin.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** [[{{Pride}} He can't help but]] [[EvilGloating gloat to the heroes]] concerning the supremacy of his [[GeometricMagic rune-enchanted]] equipment and how none of their weapons would be able to harm him. [[spoiler:So Jaune [[PlayingWithFire melts]] one of the runes from Watts' sword, stripping it of its abilities, while also distracting Watts enough for Blake to stab him [[EyeScream in the eye]] with his own enchanted dagger that he had previously fatally wounded her with before she was [[HealingHands healed by Watts' own spell]] [[NiceJobFixingItVillain that had missed its intended target thanks to Jaune.]]]]
** [[spoiler:Happens again, after he makes his wish to Salem. Because he wished for the resurrected Willow to never let themselves be separated, she takes advantage by killing him when she is dealt a mortal blow, so that they could be together in death.]]
* LightIsNotGood: As a Paladin he has light based magic, but is definitely not a good guy.
* TheLostLenore: His main motive in aiding the Grey Cloaks is [[spoiler:to gain access to a wish and ressurect Willow, [[MadLove his former Mage]].]]
* MagicKnight: Is this due to being a Paladin. Though is nominally not quite as good in either melee or magic as dedicated classes, his high level and equipment makes up for any deficiency.
* TheMedic: As a high level Paladin, he can cast effective healing spells numerous times with ease.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: His plan [[spoiler:to murder Weiss' father Jacques in order to have her mother Willow. It may have worked if he didn't continue to try and murder Weiss and Winter after they survived the first assassination.]]
* NeverMyFault: He blames Jacques for Willow not loving him, the death of Whitley, and even Willow's murder.
* SmugSnake: He's an incredibly high level, has access to healing magic, has powerful magical equipment, and is well aware of how formidable that makes him. If he was more focused on fighting than [[EvilGloating belittling his opponents]], the Hunters probably wouldn't have stood a chance against him.
* TalkingIsAFreeAction: Loves to gloat and insult his weaker opponents in the midst of battle, [[spoiler:and even stops to condescend Ms. Goodwitch during their fight.]]
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:[[HoistByHisOwnPetard The ultimate consequence]] of his wish to ressurrect [[TheLostLenore Willow]]. As a part of his wish he demanded that they never be separated. [[LiteralGenie Willow was happy to oblige him after she had been mortally wounded]].]]

!!Tyrian Callows
!!!'''Class''': Paragon

A famed and accomplished Hero of Mistral who fell from grace due to a past failure. He is determined to bring about a more peaceful and inclusive Mistral, but by dark and twisted means.

----

* TheAce: A Paragon is a Prestige Class whose focus is having A ranked stats in all categories (save Resilience), and is thus regarded as the perfect Hero class.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Canon Tyrian is little more than a sociopathic thug. [[spoiler:In this story he's a Hero driven to madness due to being branded a [[{{Unperson}} Forsaken]] for a failure that wasn't his fault, and still retains a noble, if warped, goal.]]
* AxeCrazy: He wants to make Mistral more inclusive and peaceful, [[spoiler:so he summons Salem in order to serve as it's new Queen, and finds the prospect of people being turned into Grimm a fantastic idea.]]
* CharmPerson: As a high-leveled Paragon, Tyrian has an incredibly large Charisma score. This is somewhat implied to be the reason [[spoiler:the villagers went with him of their own volition and why they were so willing to sacrifice themselves to further his goals.]]
* FallenHero: A particularly poignant example. [[spoiler:Tyrian, a noble and accomplished Hero who failed to save the Mistral Queen due to her own cowardice, was made a scapegoat and Forsaken by the Mistral hierarchy to save their reputation, and ends up dying in an (unneeded) attempt to save his new Queen Salem, whom he summoned in a mad attempt to create a more peaceful and inclusive Mistral. [[KickTheDog And then Salem dismisses him as a failure, leaving Tyrian a broken and sobbing mess as he succumbs to his wounds]].]]
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: It's implied that Tyrian being branded a Forsaken was the primary force driving him to madness.
* IdealHero: Dedicated himself to being one and was held as one of the greatest Heroes of Mistral, not only due to his class, but also by accepting every request made to him, while never asking for anything in return. [[spoiler:It later ended up destroying him when his failure to protect the Queen of Mistral due to her own cowardice, caused the King to brand him as [[{{Unperson}} Forsaken]] so no one would know the truth, and was shunned by everyone for it.]]
* PetTheDog: Is angered by Ruby being injured by one of his followers, and immediately fusses over her.
* TheScapegoat: Was made into one by the Mistralian monarchy in order to [[spoiler:keep the truth of the queen's cowardice and idiocy hidden from the rest of the world.]]
* SimpleYetAwesome: The class equivalent, as he shows no special skills in his fight against the guild, but by being a Paragon all of his stats (save Resilience) are ranked A, so he doesn't require any.
* {{Unperson}}: Was branded as a Forsaken [[spoiler:due to the Queen fleeing like a coward and getting herself killed, and the King using Tyrian as a scapegoat to maintain the Royal's reputation.]]
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Is convinced that his intentions are pure and ultimately for the greater good of Mistral.

!!Vernal
!!!'''Class''': Rogue

A member of Raven's tribe and a Greycloak.

----

* AdaptationalVillainy: Is far more openly sadistic and malevolent than canon.
* BreakThemByTalking: Does this [[spoiler:to Lisa after a group of Greycloaks slaughter many New Dawn members and then blames it on her as their leader that rallied them in the first place, and then starts in on her status as the illegitimate princess of Vale for good measure. The resulting negativity is enough to summon Salem.]]
* TheBrute: She's introduced easily manhandling metal cages with people in them, suggesting she's a high enough Level to have great Str despite her Rogue Class.
* TheDragon: Appears to be Raven's right hand.
* HateSink: Is as despicable and vile as Raven, whom she devotedly follows, with Jaune and [[spoiler:Lisa]] even hating her more.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Degrades and insults Jaune at nearly every turn by calling him a dog when he's forced to obey, and a weakling who only gains Levels be killing lower Level opponents. This, while she is almost slavishly devoted to Raven, and torments Jaune and Lisa due to their lower Levels.
* KnifeNut: Wields a pair of wicked curved knives.
* SmugSnake: She enjoys mocking and tormenting Jaune due to his lower Level.
* TheSociopath: While this seems to be a requirement in Raven's tribe, Vernal stands out from the rest as she thinks nothing of cutting up a prisoner just to establish dominance and uses threats of death and torture to maintain control.

!!Raven Branwen
!!!'''Class''': Knight

Yang's mother, and [[spoiler:the leader of the Greycloaks]].

----

* AdaptationalIntelligence: Canon Raven's idea of a plan was to keep herself safe in a way that put her in more danger. This Raven's plans always go her way, has everyone acting as she predicts, and knows everything personal about specific people she uses, [[spoiler:like the extent of Jaune's Blacksmithing Skills, and Lisa's true lineage,]] so that everything works towards her goals.
* AdaptationalVillainy: While canon Raven is far from being a saint, in this story she's little more than a remorseless CardCarryingVillain who cares about nothing but gaining more Levels and power.
* BigBad: As the [[spoiler:leader of the entire Greycloak organization]], she's likely this for the whole story.
* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Qrow's Abel.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Her plan needed Salem conveniently granting a wish for a powerful weapon in such a way as to leave her with [[spoiler:an unearthly and uniquely strong metal for Jaune to eventually forge into an InfinityPlusOneSword.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Her inclusion in the story and ties with [[spoiler:the Greycloaks]] is foreshadowed near the end off Book 4 when Qrow gives his full name to a group [[spoiler:of Greycloaks,]] and they visibly react with uncertainty. Occurs again midway through Book 6 when one of her portals is seen closing after having delivered [[spoiler:sacrifices to Watts in the Vacuoan temple]].
* HateSink: By the first chapter of properly introducing her, Raven's proven to be a woman arguably more despicable and evil than even the canon villains of RWBY.
* HeroKiller: Has naturally killed many heroes in her quest for Exp. But the pronounced example is [[spoiler:when she kills her own brother, Qrow.]]
* InfinityPlusOneSword: [[spoiler:Raven has [[UltimateBlackmith Jaune]] forge her one of these from a [[ThunderboltIron fallen meteor]] and engrave upon it a rune that reads "seal/contain".]]
* InvincibleVillain: Is so high Level that no one can oppose her [[spoiler: and even wields what is likely one of the most powerful weapons in existence after Jaune forges her an InfinityPlusOneSword. Jaune even rationalizes forging such a thing as not really making Raven any deadlier since, irregardless of her armaments, she can already defeat almost any foe with little effort.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Everything she does is out of selfishness. She engages in mass slaughter simply to gain Levels. [[spoiler:Sets up a system of gladiatorial fights to increase the Levels of her victims, just to gain Exp when she kills the winner.]] And finally the entire plot of the story is for the purpose of her making a wish to Salem safely.
* TheJuggernaut: Discussed in-universe. Raven points out that most heroes don't go farther than Level 70, with exceptions making it to Level 80 and there are legends about heroes who allegedly made it to the nineties. When Jaune asks Raven what her level is, her answer [[spoiler:of Level 112]] comes as quite a shock.
* PragmaticVillainy: [[spoiler:Raven easily agrees to allow Jaune and Lisa to go free after Jaune forges her a sword because keeping them imprisoned is simply an additional tax on the tribe's resources (YMMV on how much sense this makes when she deliberately has Jaune kill enough Greycloaks to free more resources than two prisoners), killing Jaune would just deprive her of the world's greatest Blacksmith, killing Lisa would not get any of her followers appreciably closer to a higher Level, and she can simply [[ThinkingUpPortals open a portal directly to Jaune]] if she should ever require use of him in the future.]]
* SmugSuper: Mocks the Hunters while tanking all their attacks without receiving a scratch, and states she doesn't care whether Vale or Ozpin is informed about her, as no one can stop her. [[spoiler:Being Level 112, she's likely right.]]
* TheSociopath: Far more so than canon. She cares little for the thousands that have died due to her organisation's machinations, or the previous villains the Hunters have dealt with. She [[spoiler:is of a level so high that ''no living hero'' can best her in a fight]], and became that way by [[spoiler:holding gladiatorial contests between her victims, then siccing one of her warriors onto the winner of that, then building on that until she gets someone high-level enough for her to slaughter and gain more experience from]]. People are essentially nothing more than a means for Exp for her. And just like in canon, she cares naught for Yang as a mother.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Just like in canon, she has this ability. Though how or why she can do this as a Knight when it's stated to be performed only by magical Classes is yet to be explained.
* ThunderboltIron: Possesses a rare and valuable meteoric ingot that was supposedly taken from a distant star [[spoiler:by Salem to fulfill the wish of a man who asked for a powerful weapon before dropping it on him from orbit. Raven has Jaune forge it into an InfinityPlusOneSword.]]
* VillainsNeverLie: Yang says that Raven considers it a mark of her strength that she need never lie to anyone.
* XanatosGambit: Her current plans for the future are so multi-layered that she sees a potential positive outcome for herself at every turn. [[spoiler: She allows Jaune to go back to Ozpin and inform him of her location. If Ozpin sends an army after her, the Greycloaks will fight them to the death, whittling the army down enough so that once Raven joins the fray, she has an easier time fighting them, earning more Exp for herself in preparation for killing Salem. If the Heroes decide not to act against her, that's fine; she'll just summon Salem herself. Beyond that, if Raven's plan to kill Salem falls through, that's fine as well; Raven would be dead and free from the consequences of unleashing the dark god on the world.]]

!!The Greycloaks

A mysterious organization spreading chaos throughout Remnant.

----

* DealWithTheDevil: They seem intent on making various deals with Salem.
* DidntSeeThatComing: [[OutsideContextProblem The Hunters]] regularly disrupt their plans in ways they couldn't anticipate. Examples include: interrupting their summoning rituals, initiating a guild war against their operatives, being personally acquainted with Salem, and [[spoiler:putting a stop to their rebellions by having the political backing of the future God-Queen of Mistral.]]
* FalseFlagOperation: [[spoiler:Engineered a series of naval incidents to instigate a war between Vale and Mistral.]]
* ForTheEvulz: Their main agenda, as wide spread misery makes it easier to summon Salem.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Little is known about them, not even their proper name, just that they seem dedicated to spreading misery and chaos across Remnant.
* LegionOfDoom: [[spoiler:So far all of the main human antagonists have been related to them in one way or another.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Despite using the same methods, each member's ultimate goals have little in common and are sometimes contradictory.

!!Salem

The Queen and ultimate source of the Grimm.

----

* AdaptationalHeroism: Zigzagged. While this Salem is more horrifying, treacherous, and cruel than her canon self on a personal level, she's presented as simply following her [[EldritchAbomination inherent nature]] instead of willfully pursuing humanity's destruction, and is no longer the driving force of overall conflict in the story, having nothing to do with the Greycloaks except as a means to grant their wishes.
* AntagonistAbilities: Has several. Her very presence [[GravityMaster presses down everyone until they're on their hands and knees.]] Striking her with a weapon will either [[{{Intangibility}} go right through her,]] or [[BareHandedBladeBlock be caught with ease.]] She can easily [[SuperSenses detect the location of those out of sight or the true nature of those in disguise,]] can [[{{Telekinesis}} hurl and grab people without physical contact,]] and [[VillainTeleportation cross distances in an instant.]] All this, ''in addition to'' being the Queen of Grimm, and thus [[MookMaker able to create any kind of Grimm she wants!]]
* BerserkButton: Anyone actually harming her, [[spoiler:as Jaune found out.]]
* EldritchAbomination: Is this in-universe, having no name or class over her head, and exists outside of the [[RPGMechanicsVerse RPG System]] the rest of the world runs under.
* EmotionEater: Feeds off of negativity, though she has a particular preference on the kind of negativity produced.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: PlayedWith. She's observed to express distaste [[spoiler:at Merlot murdering his Sentinel.]] Later revealed that her distaste is due to the kind of negativity being produced with the [[EmotionEater "flavor"]] being rooted in love, while she prefers anger.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Is polite and personable, though in a condescending way, and plays along with whoever summons her, but does whatever she can to twist their wishes and screw them over. Oh, and is also the source of the Grimm, and [[EmotionEater feeds off the negativity around her.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: Is both the ultimate source of the Grimm and the unifying factor behind the Greycloaks.
* JerkassGenie: Salem ''will'' grant her summoner's wish, but will liberally interpret or indirectly undermine her summoner in order to lead them to both emotional and physical destruction.
* KickTheDog: A particularly brutal one [[spoiler:to Tyrian,]] where she plays on his past failure as he lays dying, [[EmotionEater just to emotionally torture him in order to wring out the best kind of negativity]].
* KryptoniteFactor: As a Demonic entity, Salem is weak to [[spoiler:[[WhiteMagic Purified objects]]]]. Luckily for her, no such objects seem to exist [[spoiler:until Jaune makes one out of her amulet]].
* LawfulEvil: Is bound to obey her summoner and grant their wish, [[ExactWords though how she goes about it is completely up to her.]] And in her third appearance it's heavily implied she operates under an even larger set of rules that she can't fully break, but constantly tries to undermine.
* LightEmUp: If Salem is harmed in even the most minuscule of fashions, she releases a blinding flash of light accompanied by a sound like thunder and an outward force. [[spoiler:[[GuileHero Jaune uses this to his advantage by throwing his dagger into Salem's back and subsequently]] [[BlindedByTheLight blinding Watts before he can cut Blake in two.]]]]
* ManipulativeBastard: Almost every interaction between her and another character is for the sole purpose of leading them to both physical and emotional destruction.
* OhCrap: Has a minor one when [[spoiler:she realizes that Jaune's path has been preparing him to combat Salem thanks to [[{{MacGuffin}} her amulet.]]]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Should a wish be made in such a way to allow her to really cut loose, Salem is fully capable of [[spoiler:destroying an entire Kingdom and converting a good portion of the continent it was on into a vast desert.]]
* PhysicalGod: Salem is recognized as a goddess by many ([[SubvertedTrope Though she doesn't]] [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly need prayer badly]]), she [[TimeAbyss calls herself the origin, eternal, and ever-present from a time before the dominion of humanity]], [[NighInvulnerable is seemingly immune to all forms of physical damage]], [[PersonOfMassDestruction and possesses the power to]] [[spoiler:[[PersonOfMassDestruction completely destroy a once fertile kingdom to the point that, centuries later, all that is left of it is a vast desert.]] And, perhaps most importantly, she can be directly harmed when summoned and forced to manifest.]]
* SummoningRitual: She can be made to manifest on Remnant using one. She does not enjoy the experience.
* TimeAbyss: Salem claims to be the origin of all Grimm and speaks of a time before humanity claimed dominion of Remnant when her children freely roamed the land.
