* ContrivedCoincidence: She needed both Jaune being a Blacksmith and involved in the story to become a high enough Level with specific Skilks, [[spoiler: and Salem granting a wish in such a way as to leave an unearthly metal to make an InfinityPlusOneSword.]]

* UltimateBlacksmith: While he isn't yet capable of making an InfinityPlusOneSword or ArmorOfInvincibility, Jaune is the only known Blacksmith to have acquired [[spoiler:[[FunctionalMagic Runesmithing]]]], and by Book 5 he may well be the highest level Blacksmith to ever exist. Jaune's own father, who himself is a high-level smith and who studied under his own father, an even higher level smith, states that Jaune's creations are easily the best in all of Remnant even when he makes them halfheartedly.

* HateSink: Is as despicable and vile as Raven whom she devotedly follows.

* TheSociopath: Seems to be a requirement in Raven's tribe. But Vernal stands out, as she thinks nothing of cutting up a prisoner just to establish dominance, and threatens death and torture to maintain control.

* LiteralGenie: Will grant her summoner's wish, but will liberally interpret them, or even indirectly undermine them, in order to lead them to both emotional and physical destruction.

* HateSink: Is as despicable and vile as her Raven whom she devotedly follows.

*** First, he and the King devise a plan to have [[spoiler:Jaune infiltrate the Greycloaks]] while not even considering that the Greycloaks may be interested in acquiring [[spoiler:[[UltimateBlacksmith the highest Level Blacsmith in the history of Remnant]]]] for themselves and would be able to easily acquire and isolate said individual considering they are known to have a highly skilled teleporter on their side.

** Holds it a few times in Book 7. The first one [[spoiler:being his and the King's entire plan to have Jaune infiltrate the Greycloaks while not even considering that he could be kidnapped and cut off from any aide.]] The second [[spoiler:when Jaune goes into hiding with Lisa, and sending the Hunters throughout the city, when the only places Jaune knows are closer to Beacon.]]

* ItsAllAboutMe: Everything she does is for the purpose of satisfying her selfishness. She engages in mass slaughter simply to gain Levels. [[spoiler:Sets up a system of gladiatorial fights to increase the Levels of her victims, just to gain Exp when she kills the winner.]] And finally the entire plot of the story is for the purpose of her making a wish to Salem safely.

* BigBad: As the leader of the entire Greycloaks, she's this for the whole story.

* TheDragon: Appears to be Raven's right hand,

* TheJuggernaught: Not to the same extent as Raven, but she's introduced easily manhandling metal cages with people in them, suggesting she's a high enough Level to have great Str despite her Rogue Class.

Yang's mother, and the leader of the Greycloaks.

* AdaptionalVillainy: While canon Raven is far from being a saint, in this story she's little more than a remorseless CardCarryingVillain who cares about nothing but gaining more Levels and power.

* TheJuggernaut: Discussed in-universe. Raven points out that most heroes don't go farther than Level 70, with exceptions making it to Level 80 and there are legends about heroes who allegedly made it to the nineties. When Jaune asks Raven what her level is, her answer comes as quite a shock: ''[[spoiler:Level 112]]''.
* TheSociopath: Let's see: she cares little for the thousands that have died due to her organisation's machinations, or the previous villains the Hunters have dealt with. She [[spoiler:is of a level so high that ''no living hero'' can best her in a fight]], and became that way by [[spoiler:holding gladiatorial contests between her victims, then siccing one of her warriors onto the winner of that, then building on that until she gets someone high-level enough for her to slaughter and gain more experience from]]. And just like in canon, she cares naught for Yang as a mother.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Has this ability, just like in canon.

!!The Greycloaks

A mysterious organization spreading chaos throughout Remnant.

* DemotedToExtra: As a consequence of the story being told solely from Jaune's POV, he's rarely seen. More over with the canon plot thread of his and Salem's millennium spanning secret-war being removed from this story, his role is also significantly reduced as a result.

** As the story is told entirely from his perspective, and he had an initially isolated upbringing, certain facts and observations he makes may not be accurate.

* ChekhovsGun: The [[spoiler: runes]] that Jaune extracted from the armor he gained from [[spoiler:Beacon's vault]]. As they were extracted from the armor before it was reforged, they still maintain a degree of their power [[spoiler: when Jaune welds them into his breastplate while facing a Nuckelavee]].
** Further exploited when Jaune [[spoiler:welds the Rune of Cold Steel from the armor onto a pauldron he forges for [[FragileSpeedster Ruby]], effectively increasing her Constitution by a factor of six.]]

* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Due to not truly being a Hero Class, [[MyGreatestFailure and an early incident nearly killing Ruby,]] he has rather low self-esteem, and constantly worries that he's not good enough to be a Hero.
** This comes to a head in Book 5 after a series of traumatic events causes him to see almost all of his actions since coming to Beacon as being based solely on rash, selfish, and deeply arrogant reasoning, with only some good ultimately resulting from them.

* TheLeader: Jaune continues to develop as one as the series progresses by both inspiring his comrades and often [[IndyPloy providing]] [[BatmanGambit a plan]] that sees them triumphant. The ultimate example occurs in Book 5 where he remains [[HeroicSafeMode calm and focused]] by some unknown means [[spoiler:during a battle between Vale and Mistral forces]] while everyone else is emotionally distraught, and thus provides the rest of the guild the strength to move forward.
** Reinforced in Book 6 when [[spoiler:the rest of Ansel's townsfolk rally behind him to kill the Mistral squadron sent to destroy their home]]; everyone present charges in to help Jaune fight them off.

* MightyGlacier: Jaune's Strength and Constitution stats are his second and third highest parameters respectively. His Dexterity and Agility, however, are his second and third ''lowest''. This means that he often has to immobilize his opponents in some manner so as to effectively hit them.

* NotTheIntendedUse: Jaune's Blacksmith skills are primarily geared towards engraving decorative designs, cooling metals, or heating a forge. This doesn't stop him from engraving so deeply as to compromise a fortification's structure, rapidly cooling a weapon to weaken it, or grabbing his opponents and burning them alive.

* UnreliableNarrator: As the story is told entirely from his perspective, and he had an initially isolated upbringing, certain facts and observations he makes may not be accurate.

* FragileSpeedster: Even at the start of the story Ruby is still incredibly fast. However, her Constitution is so low, despite killing enough Grimm to level up several times, that it's commented on that even Labour Caste members can threaten her.

* {{Foil}}: To Blake. Both put up walls between themselves and others due to a combination of [[DarkAndTroubledPast past tragedies]] and being ostracized for being born with features they can't control (being an Assassin for Blake, [[BlessedWithSuck being forced to only use swords]] for Weiss). But while Blake is silent and anti-social, making it difficult to know her thoughts, Weiss is much, much more temperamental and outspoken, and won't hesitate to express her opinion on things.
** And to her mother, Willow. [[spoiler:Willow was a support mage, who focused on buffing her allies at the expense of directly influencing battles. Weiss on the other hand, due to her past trauma at the hands of her mother's Sentinel and her subsequent trust issues, is a control mage, who seeks to control the field of battle to directly counter her opponents.]]

* AdultsAreUseless: Played with. As Jaune and the rest of the Hunters Guild learn about Torchwick's history of conning students, they frequently wonder how Ozpin or any of the other teachers haven't caught on or done anything about it. [[spoiler:Later is revealed to be justified due to learning of Neo's Illusionist abilities making it easy to operate under false identities and frame others, as well as Ozpin being distracted by outside threats.]]

** Also proves to be one to [[spoiler:the last King of the Ashari]]. Both are royals pushed [[spoiler:to the breaking point by war]]; while the latter [[spoiler:summoned Salem and doomed Vacuo with his wish]], Cinder flat-out refuses to do the same.

* WhatTheHellHero: Delivers a pretty effective one to the rest of the party while in the dungeon. He calls out [[FantasticRacism Weiss and Blake for their continual sniping at each other]], [[BigSisterInstinct Yang for her overprotectiveness of Ruby making them both useless]], [[ChildhoodFriends Ren and Nora for retreating into themselves instead of helping]], and [[IJustWantToBeNormal Pyrrha for foisting leadership and strategy onto him when he has no tactical experience]]. Ruby is exempt from the rebuke, but she still feels bad as her [[spoiler:near death at the hands of a Beowolf]] is what caused a lot of the issues to begin with.
