* NonstandardCharacterDesign: By contrast to most other characters, Hortensia's design is a mix between clowns and ''Literature/AliceInWonderland'', making her look less medieval-like as a result. And like Yunaka, she has a tattoo on her face, which isn't what one would typically see in ''Fire Emblem'' characters.

* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: If you're willing to pony up the 90,000 Gold to finish Elusia's donation chain, the primary reward is the Nodus, an S-Rank staff that ''fully charges the whole party's Engage meters''... but has only 1 Durability. In someone else's hands, Nodus is a [[TooAwesomeToUse one-use panic button]]. In Hortensia's hands, her promotion's ''World Tree'' skill rolling a chance to ''not consume staff durability'' means it's possible to keep everyone Engaged for the entire map. That the Nodus comes from Hortensia's own homeland is surely not a coincidence.

* VillainousHarlequin: With her striped, poofy outfit and candy-colored hair, she begins the story as a clownish minion of the Fell Dragon.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Hortensia is the last royal to join the army, and unlike all the others, Rosado and Goldmary are not officially her retainers. As Goldmary points out in her B support with Hortensia, they're Hortensia's classmates who followed her to war, and did not receive approval from King Hyacinth([[spoiler:who has been dead for several chapters by the time the support can be viewed]]) to serve under her.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: Anna's starter class is an Axe Fighter, meaning she carries a rather large weapon as her weapon of choice and can still fight efficiently.

* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She is only 11 years old but is a great merchant who knows hows on making a profit. Some of the adults are astonished that someone so young is so good at her business.

* AccentUponTheWrongSyllable: His odd manner of speaking has him placing random emphasis on certain words and syllables. In the subtitles they're written with asterisks around them.

* BoobsOfSteel: She ties with Zephia as the bustiest sharacter in the game, with a 220% modifier in the game data for her bust, and she starts in the physically-oriented Hero class.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: The Japanese script has Emblem Lucina express admiration towards Goldmary's "voluptuous figure."

* MsFanservice: Along with Zelestia she ties as the most voluptuous of the playable characters (having a 220% modifier in the game data for her bust with the others at 200% or less), and she is quite open to using those good looks to get the attention of others.

* MasterOfNone: Unfortunately, Rosado joins in a mediocre state, despite his excellent starting class (flying with access to multi-range weaponry) and his decently-high starting level. Even on Normal Mode, his Strength is a bit too low to make quick work of anything by himself (at least in his joining chapter), while his Defense is a bit too low to tank hits without taking notable damage; this isn't an ideal combination, to say the least, [[ATasteOfPower though it lets him visibly benefit from the Emblem Ring he starts with]].
** Fortunately Rosado [[MagikarpPower has rather good growth rates]], including a tie for the highest (non-{{DLC}}) Strength rate in his personal list, and even a decent Magic rate if you want to switch him to [[ThePaladin Griffon Knight]] (for Staves) or [[MagicKnight Mage Knight]] (for Tomes).

* IWillFindYou: She joins Alear's group both to expand her business model and to find her missing family.

* WeaksauceWeakness: Have a problem with Rosado? Just [[BlowYouAway blow him out of the sky]], or use an arrow! Once you have him, you'll have to keep this weakness in mind; the chapter he joins in has multiple Bow Knights armed with magic arrows, who will make short work of him even in Normal Mode, and even while he's [[SuperMode Engaged]].
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Can wear outfits designated for female units, which applies to both the custom Somniel outfits and generic class outfits[[note]]He still cannot wear the Sword[=/=]Axe[=/=]Lance Flier class outfits, as those classes are female-only classes[[/note]] if changed from his starting Wyvern Knight class. His default armor also has a frilly skirt, and his Somniel outfit is an off-the-shoulder midriff-baring shirt with matching skirt and stockings, and high heels.

** Hortensia uses Lucina when encountered as a boss in chapter 7. Hortensia rides a Pegasus, similar to one of[[note]]And the most likely one, provided that player isn't using a female Robin[[/note]] Lucina's potential mothers and the sister she would have with that mother.

* SignificantNameShift: In her supports with [[spoiler:Veyle]], she is the only person besides [[spoiler:Alear, Veyle's elder sibling]] who refuses to call the latter "[[spoiler:Lady Veyle]]," out of rudeness due to [[spoiler:her blaming Veyle for her father's death]]. This changes in their A support, when they do become friends.

* DemotedToExtra: [[spoiler:After having been freed from Zephia's brainwashing and reuniting with her retainers]], Hortensia immediately falls off of the plot after chapter 16, and therefore no longer appears or contributes dialogue in the cutscenes.

** Kagetsu best-fits the "[[VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Navarre]]" archetype among Engage's roster. In the story sense, he's a vagrant swordsman serving a foreign land to initially oppose you, before joining your side on behalf of a single character. Gameplay-wise, he's a [[CriticalHitClass critical-hit-focused]] swordsman with high Speed and notable Strength who is first fought as an enemy, though his joining time is rather late for the role. Other "Navarres" include [[VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar Ayra]], [[VideoGame/FireEmblemThracia776 Mareeta]], [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBindingBlade Rutger]], [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade Guy]], and [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones Joshua]].

* UndyingLoyalty: She isn't officialy Hortensia's retainer. Before the war started they were just friends at the academy but she and Rosado insisted and accompanying Hortensia and later show their willingness to betray Elusia just to get a chance at rescuing Hortensia. In her A-support with Hortensia she also mentions that she wants to stay with Hortensia even after the war is over.

* PlotArmor: In Classic mode, she won't die if her HP drops to 0, due to her story presence being necessary in certain cutscenes. However, after she's played her role in the story, her plot armor expires and she will die.

* ResistantToMagic: Hortensia is ''extremely'' resilient against magic attacks, sporting a massive Resistance growth, and her Resistance caps at a massive '''54.'''

* CorruptedCharacterCopy: A downplayed example towards Elise from ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates''. Both are younger siblings of an antagonistic nation who fight as mounted healers. Elise was a SpoiledSweet girl who always disagreed with her ObviouslyEvil father and never antagonized the player on any path, while Hortensia can act like a spoiled brat who [[RecurringBoss makes a lot of trouble for the player]] out of [[WellDoneSonGuy desperately seeking her father's approval.]] Even when recruited, Hortensia can still be a brat in her supports, but she is still a genuinely good person deep down.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: Rosado hails from the village of the Fair Folk, where everyone is [[InhumanlyBeautifulRace supernaturally beautiful]] and androgynous, and who seem to have minor superhuman abilities such as never tiring. It's never made clear if Rosado is actually not human, but the Fair Folk do sound an awful lot like [[TheFairFolk the fey.]]

* LavaIsBoilingKoolAid: Lindon calls lava "red water" while commenting on Chapter 23's setting, indicating that he has [[MundaneObjectAmazement absolutely no experience with the stuff.]] [[spoiler: Indeed, the volcanoes had been underwater for a thousand years, and the only other volcanic region in Elyos is on a little-known island behind Firene.]]

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Many Elusians consider Sombron to be their god and worship him. Sombron [[SarcasmMode rewards Elusia's fervent worship of him]], [[spoiler:by having hundreds, if not thousands of Elusian civilians killed and turned into Corrupted]].

** He's a skilled, sword-wielding warrior from a foreign land with unique speech quirks, like [[VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses Petra]] and [[VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Athena]]. Additionally, he also starts out on the enemy's side before joining the player's army, following in the footsteps of the archetype set by [[VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Navarre]].
** [[spoiler:As the prince of Pale Sands who keeps his royal lineage a secret, he's ''Engage's'' answer to the "secret noble" archetype]], similar to [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade Raven]] or [[VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar Lewyn]]]].

* GuideDangIt: Lindon can be recruited by having Alear, Ivy, or Hortensia talk to him, which is easy to achieve. However, since he is the only recruitable enemy in the entire game (as all other characters that appear as enemies join you automatically), and the game does not state that some enemies can be recruited, recruiting him is also easy to overlook, unless you catch sight of the little speech bubble icon next to him when moving Alear, Ivy, or Hortensia, or actually paying attention to the dialogue where he bemoans how fallen Elusia became. As a result, it is possible to accidentally kill him without realizing it beforehand. It doesn't help that he appears alongside a personal-skill-toting character who ''won't'' join your team.
