[[spoiler: By the time of the Fall Tokyo Tournament, they had completed their training on the Balista formation, which drastically strengthened both their offense and defense. The Devil Bats fought the White Knights once more at the semi-finals of the Kanto Regional, and defeated them after a very tough battle]].

Coach Shoji, however, noticed his potential and favored him over the taller Sakuraba. A few months of training later, Shin had turned into the ace linebacker he is today.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Shin [[NoSocialSkills does not seem to be socially well-adjusted]] or able to make any friend outside his football team. He also has limited facial expressions and ''very'' narrow interests. Agon lampshaded the last point by calling Shin a "training geek".

* DitzyGenius: While Shin is smart, widely considered a genius, and extremely well-read about fitness and sports, his WalkingTechbane tendency is jarring. He also has a strange habit of walking around shirtless and apparently doesn't see anything wrong with it.
