* SkillGateCharacter: Compared to the likes of Henrietta, who needs to be reasonably well-upgraded, and Evil Ash, who relies on setting the battlefield up to do most of his damage, Eligos is the easiest to just pick up and play. And for the first couple of matches for a new player, he's quite a powerhouse who can ride the Possession train with ease due to his increased Fear generation and plethora of ways to do tons of area-of-effect damage that shreds Survivor groups. However, his pressuring capabilities fall off sharply when coming up against more experienced Survivors, who can manage their Fear better, know how to negate his mooks' explosions with takedowns, and dodge out of his Thunderstruck, Eligos becomes a pushover instead due to how limited his damage potential is. His units' lackluster survivability and low damage without their on-death explosions also leave a lot to be desired. As such, it's significantly rarer to be matched up with a high-level Puppeteer in online play than the other two, and even rarer still to be pitted against one who can actually demolish groups instead of the other way around.

* AdaptationalWimp: Whereas his counterpart in the series is effectively immortal unless banished by the Necronomicon or damaged by his own powers, and in the former case could simply BodySurf into a nearby mortal as he did with at the midpoint of season two, the playable Baal is as physically vulnerable to gunfire and melee attacks as his minions, cannot jump to a host to save himself, and can be driven off after taking enough damage. Additionally, his talons have also lost most of their lethality in the name of gameplay balancing, as they can no longer flay his victims instantly and only act as conventional claws to slash them with.

* TookALevelInBadass: Compared to Evil Ash, who was a powerful commanding figure of an entire Deadite army in Army of Darkness, and Baal, who is an extremely dangerous demon, Henrietta Knowby, Eligos, and the Witch were basically low-level fodder in their source materials, with the latter two being explicitly described as a weak demon. In this game, they're all boss-tier units with their own regiments of mooks to throw at the Survivors in addition to a plethora of upgrades that turn them into actual menaces instead of just possessed flesh for Ash and his friends to destroy.

* TheTurretMaster: Evil Ash and the Witch play like this, with each of them relying on strategically placing a buff totem in order to support themselves and their minions in combat with additional gimmicks. Played with in that the "turrets" aren't actually capable of offensive actions, and can be destroyed relatively easily by attentive Survivors if discovered, or if the Demon player isn't vigilant enough to defend them from damage.

To this end, he's deliberately designed to be fragile as napkin paper and incapable of defending himself.

* AbsurdlySharpClaws: Baal's weapon is his right index talon that is sharp enough to cut skin from flesh with ease.
* BadassFingersnap: His Fatal Snap ability has him snap his fingers and unleash a damaging shockwave around himself.
* BloodyMurder: His Skinned Proselyte units are able to manipulate their blood to create sharp spikes or tendrils in order to damage Survivors.
* TheChessmaster: He's a very strategic Demon that is able to manipulate everyone and everything in his favor. Fittingly, his unique icon is a knight chess piece.
* FlayingAlive: Baal's units are skinned humans who were used by him to disguise himself.
* MasterOfIllusion: A lot of his abilities are made to make the Survivors feel unsettled at all times, like his unique possession trait is to make every other Survivor appear as his victim.
* MindRape: Baal's grab ability, Embrace the Darkness, has him flood his victim's mind with horrifying images before slicing them with his claw.
* TrapMaster: A large part of his kit is dedicated to make traps he sets up deadlier.

* GroundWave: Her attacks are powerful waves she sends out by swinging her arms.

to:

* GlassCannon: Her basic skeleton units are as fragile as any other trash mob, but they make up for this frailty by doing a lot of damage with their twin swords that they really like to spin around with. Getting caught by a spin attack in a bad spot can end up wrecking your health and shield bars way worse than the other three kinds of mob abilities.
* GroundWave: Her attacks are powerful waves she sends out by swinging her arms. The Pit Deadite can also project directional shockwaves by stomping the ground.

* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: The Plaguebringer's units don't have cooldowns for their attacks, at a cost of nearly everything they do expending large amounts of Infernal Energy.

* DamageIncreasingDebuff: If a Survivor is hit by her plague potions, they will take more damage to health and shield for a few seconds.
* DamageOverTime: The other gimmick of the Plaguebringer is Blight, a special status effect that acts as a Bleed and is inflicted by most of her unit attacks and abilities.
* EarlyBirdCameo: The Witch's elite unit is the Pit Deadite, which officially made its game debut in Lord Arthur's singleplayer mission.

* CompositeCharacter: The Witch is a blend of Warlord and Necromancer gameplay-wise, where her core kit revolves around placing a buff totem-type unit and has to actively defend it to benefit from the various combat buffs it provides.
* MagicCauldron: Her kit revolves around maintaining one, which creates a buff aura that makes her units hit harder, take less damage, and cost less Infernal Energy to possess. Survivors who got within this radius also receive less healing from all sources.

Added DiffLines:

* FlunkyBoss: All of the boss units qualify. Despite their overall greater presence, boss units are only tough to deal with if they can keep pressure on the Survivors, and on their own can be rather easily defeated if the rest of the group gang up on them. This gave rise to the need for additional mooks to screen for them, and Evil Ash in particular is at his deadliest when he can have a pile of skeletons to reanimate and buff with his skill.

Added DiffLines:

* FlunkyBoss: Although he can be a pretty effective frontline unit, Evil Ash works best when he's entrenched behind a wall of mooks that he can reanimate and buff with the skeletal flutist to overwhelm the Survivors with. It would be a cold day in hell if a lone Necromancer ever tries going up against a whole group without his entourage, since even with Irreparable Damage, he can only withstand so much punishment before going down and setting the Demon back a lot of infernal energy.

Added DiffLines:

* LargeAndInCharge: Boss units generally have a larger visual profile to them, to differentiate them from their common mooks. The most notable example of this trope is Henrietta, who despite being slightly shorter in height than her Elite Deadites, has a much more notable presence due to her sheer size and distinctly inhuman movement patterns.

Added DiffLines:

* KingMook: He's basically a Demi-Eligos, but blue and slightly larger, making him the boss unit that resembles his minions the most.
