Though it's most likely not Eddy's real last name but just something made up by [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Ed]] to use rhyming words.

* ForcefulKiss: Gives a big, fat, juicy one to Edd in the episode "[[Recap/EdEddnEddyS4E12YourEdHere Your Ed Here]]" because he was blackmailed by Kevin.

** Funnily enough, he also pulls this on Jimmy sometimes, even if it's usually for manipulative purposes like, "Ed in a Halfshell".

* {{Acrofatic}}: He is overweight, but he can move around with no effort. In fact, whenever the Eds are seen running, he's usually seen in front of them.
* AllMenArePerverts: He owns/owned a porn stash and [[ADateWithRosiePalms has lots of used tissues under his bed]].

* CasanovaWannabe: He's always talking about where "chicks" hang out/what they like, but his attempts are often pretty unsuccessful.

** And he puts up a "Win a Date with Eddy! Sign up here!" sheet when he learns about the school dance, but the only person who who signs it is Ed.

* TheChewToy: Usually gets it worse than his friends.
* DeadpanSnarker: Usually towards Ed.

** SevenDeadlySins: It's probably not intentional, but he seems guilty of all seven of them, although Gluttony is debatable.

* OverlyLongTongue: Not all the time, but it can stretch to absurd lengths. Sometimes it even trails behind him when he runs.
** As revealed in "Laugh Ed, Laugh", he can wear it on his head like a turban.

* PornStash: Eddy is implied to have one, or have had one, in "The Luck of the Ed".
** He seems to found it at the end of "It Came From Outer Ed."

* RunningGag: His lack of a neck.
** And his flat head. Rolf even rests a teacup on it in one episode.

* SeriousBusiness: Has tendencies of this when his scams are ruined.
** He also takes being "manly" rather seriously.
* ShipTease: With Edd (especially in TheMovie), Ed, Nazz, and Lee.
** There's a bit of it with [[BelligerentSexualTension Sarah]], at least in the boomerang episode.

* SmallNameBigEgo: Very much so.

* SpoiledBrat: Although not as much as Sarah, he shows tendencies of this, especially on the Christmas special when he was acting like a brat because he didn't get the presents he wanted, saying, "Christmas is the time of year where your parents are supposed to buy you everything you want!" He even tried tricking the rest of the Cul-de-sac into giving him ''their'' presents.

* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Subverted in TheMovie.

* WouldntHitAGirl: He's often heard saying to Sarah several times, "If you weren't a girl, I'd-!" (Presumably because he knows Sarah could clobber him, but still.) Also Nazz punches him in the face in one episode - knocking out several of his teeth - and he makes no effort to fight back.

* DramaQueen: A rare male example.

* GentlemanSnarker: Usually.

* HehHehYouSaidX: Edd saying [[GettingCrapPastTheRadar "Sextant"]] in TheMovie draws this reaction from [[AllMenArePerverts Eddy]] and [[CovertPervert Ed]]. [[LateToThePunchline He's a little slow to get what they're giggling about though.]]

* LargeHam: He can tend to overreact over the simplest things, being a NeatFreak and all. Case in point, in "Out With the Old, In With the Ed", he broke down crying when he forgot the ''paperclips'' for his school supplies.

* LovableNerd: A sweet, {{Adorkable}}, cute nerd.

** And he was called "Lambchop" by [[CrackPairing May]] in the Valentine's Day episode.

* {{Adorkable}}: Oh ''so much''. He's cute, geeky, neurotic, endearingly shy, kind, polite, and quite a ShrinkingViolet, especially around girls. And that's why all the girls (In-Universe and out) find him adorable.
* AffectionateNickname: He's usually called "Sweetie" or "Muffin" by [[StalkerWithACrush Marie Kanker.]]

* AllLovingHero: Despite being in a SadistShow, he's incredibly kind and caring towards everyone around him, no matter how much the other characters act like jerks. See TokenGoodTeammate.

** He once managed to make a motorized go-kart out of stuff lying in an alley.
** Then, he made a working plane out of common stuff found in a school. It makes you wonder why he doesn't try out for the [[KidsNextDoor KND]].
*** Especially since it's confirmed that the two shows take place in the same universe.
*** He could be too old.
** His best work would be the Thigamajig from Season 4. [[{{Magitek}} It's the mechanical equivalent to a genie's lamp with unlimited wishes]]. And it's still made partly out of cardboard.
** In ''FusionFall'', he constructs working cardboard ramparts to keep out the Fusion monsters.
*** To put the above into perspective, [[WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory Dexter, THE boy Genius of Cartoon Network]] creates energy forcefields around infected areas that the invaders are implied to be able ot travel through. Edd's fortress keeps them out enitrely. True, it is charged with Imaginiary Energy, being boxes from Fosters, but these invaders are made of goo, and are good at slipping through any crack.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: He is ''much'' more relaxed and willing to go along with Eddy's schemes in early episodes, compared to how he is always second-guessing Eddy's schemes and spazzing out at the first sign of trouble in his later appearances.
** [[JustifiedTrope Sort of justified with time progressing since he'd have seen schemes fail multiple times prior to the change in attitude.]]
*** Also, in early episodes he was more "normal" in the sense that, while he still smart and fussy, he was fine with things like monster movies or dumpster-diving to find glass bottles to recycle, while in later episodes he'd decry the former for being violent and the latter for being messy.

** CluelessChickMagnet: He's still shy and awkward around girls.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: Despite taking part in Eddy's scams, he's probably the most innocent and morally righteous character on the show, in contrast to [[{{Jerkass}} Eddy.]]

* CovertPervert: "Hand me Down Ed" has a boomerang that affects the holder in strange ways. What happens to Double D when he holds it? He [[GettingHotInHere complains how hot it is]], and then begins to [[GettingCrapPastTheRadar strip sensually with no shame whatsoever]] [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything (he even clings on to a pole!)]], so much it even gets Eddy shocked. Subverted, since when Eddy takes the boomerang away from him, he's suddenly aware of his lack of clothing and instantly goes embarrassed, trying to cover himself up.

** His SesquipedalianLoquaciousness tendencies can make him use words that can fly past younger viewer's heads, such as "amorous". He even has to explain the word to Eddy!
*** In similar lines, he picked up on Eddy's "[[GettingCrapPastTheRadar Snowjob]]" joke pretty quickly.

* CrazyPrepared: If "To Sir With Ed" and "Thick As An Ed" are any indication, he carries a loofah and an ''entire shower'' around with him at all times.
** Taken UpToEleven with his school briefcase. The sheer number of devices, compartments and items it contains stretch even ToonPhysics to their limits.
* CursedWithAwesome: He's an excellent pedal steel guitar player, but he detests the instrument, which makes you wonder how he got so good.
** His parents probably got him lessons taught by a good tutor if Edd can play it with ''his feet'' while ''reading''.

* DeadpanSnarker: ''Very'' snarky and sarcastic, especially towards Eddy. His most snarky episode by far is "Dim Lit Ed".
** Really, he's pretty much snarky to everyone. Not even [[DudeMagnet Nazz]] is free from it!

* DisguisedInDrag: Dresses up as a mermaid to cheer up Jimmy in "Tinker Ed".
** Then in "Little Ed Blue" where he is dressed up as a cavewoman in the film they watch.

* DramaQueen: A male example. See LargeHam below.

* FriendToBugs: He collects them.
** He's also the only one of his friends who isn't scared of bugs - when Ed freaks out over a spider on his shoulder, Double D simply chastises him for "frightening it" and deposits it out of the window.

** Also in "A Fistful Of Ed" when he hurt the kids ''by accident''.

* NervousWreck: Tends to be extremely neurotic, especially from season 2 onwards.

* NiceGuy: While he's quite snarky and judgmental, he's overall pretty good-natured and a surprisingly loyal friend.

** Also in "3 Squares and an Ed". You have to wonder what caused Edd to invent an opera-singing machine.
*** Or a model volcano that acts as a high-power vaccum that sucks Eddy's ''entire head into it.''

* RunningGag: His chin and his fixation on his hat.

* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Often to the annoyance of his less-educated peers.
** To the point where in "All Eds Are Off" the boys bet that they can go a whole day without doing certain habits, Edd's is doing this.

* ShrinkingViolet: He has trouble standing up for himself because of his timid nature. And he becomes extremely shy and awkward around girls, as seen in "May I Have This Ed?"
** In the opening credits, he even faints right at the end of the song.

* StraightMan: The most fitting of the role.
* SuperOCD: He has some tendencies.
** This even becomes rather problematic in the Movie- Edd's obsession with labelling everything means that he keeps leaving clues for the other kids to track the Eds down.

* TearfulSmile: In "A Fistful of Ed", when he looks after the sprout of a flower while crying, he turns around when he hears a sound. Hoping it's Ed who's come to make up with him, he smiles tearfully.

* TokenGoodTeammate: The most moral of the Eds (Ed is also good, but ''very'' [[HanlonsRazor stupid]]). In fact, he's the only Ed the other kids treat with anything resembling respect.
** Being the OnlySaneMan and a genuinely NiceGuy in a SadistShow, he can be considered the TokenGoodTeammate not just of the Eds, but ''of the entire main cast''. While he ''has'' his NotSoAboveItAll moments, he doesn't fall into the KidsAreCruel territory as much as everyone else.

* WouldHitAGirl: Believe it or not, in "Is There an Ed in the House?" he nearly attacked Sarah for harassing him. Ed has to hold him back.
** Also, he didn't hesitate to get into a fight with Lee as "The Masked Mumbler". He got [[CurbStompBattle utterly crushed]].

* PowerTrio: One of the most famous cartoon trios. See ComicTrio, FreudianTrio, BigThinSgortTrio...

* {{Badass}}: He's the strongest kid on the show and has no hesitation in standing up for his friends. Plus, making him angry is a bad idea.
** A good example of Ed being badass is in ''Is There An Ed In The House?'', where he menaclingly throws Jimmy out of the window just to show who's Sarah's real big brother, or in ''Little Ed Blue'', where he nearly beats up everyone in the episode, and manages to destroy everything around him eith his bare hands.
** BadassAdorable: He's as strong as he is lovable.
** BadassArmfold. In "Little Ed Blue".
** BadassPacifist: Ed can't bare to see people fighting each other, but once you've made him angry, he will make you regret that you've ever tried to annoy him in the first place.
** CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Go ahead, piss him off (which is no mean feat outside his known {{Berserk Button}}s). [[PunctuatedForEmphasis You. Will. Regret. It.]]
* BagOfHolding: Ed's {{stomach| of holding}} apparently works like a storage facility or refrigerator sometimes.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Despite her constant abuse of him, Ed loves Sarah and is pretty protective of her.
** He also extends this protection to Jimmy sometimes.

* BigOlUnibrow: He can't make funny faces without that!
** At one point, he's standing on his head and actually [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/801863bdc94e219eb1ea437ecd2423f3/tumblr_miwccmYRrp1rpmov4o1_500.gif moves across the ground using it.]]

* CovertPervert: Is partly the reason for the HoYay.

* TheDitz: Though by the series finale he seemed to go back to at least his Season 1 intelligence.
** GeniusDitz: He's got an encyclopedic knowledge of B horror and sci-fi movies, and he can play the flute like a pro. Plus a few of the things he says are sort of profound, if you think about them long enough.
** Plus, he's the one who defeated Eddy's Brother via steel door and Newton's First and Third Laws of Motion.

* DumbIsGood: Played straight, usually.

** It runs in the family, apparently, as Sarah once slammed a ''car'' on top of Nazz.

* GirlsHaveCooties: "Yucky, squishy, MUSHY GIRLS, Double D!"
** He doesn't have this problem with Nazz, though. Also in some episodes ("Honor Thy Ed", "Key to My Ed") he doesn't mind the Kankers and seems less repulsed by them than Edd and Eddy.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Pretty often. Like in the Valentine's Day episode where his response to May giving him a Valentine's Day card is to scream and accidentally trample her.
** Also this in "I am Curious of Ed":

* [[KarmaHoudini Karma]][=/=]IdiotHoudini: Occasionally. Like in the Halloween Special.

* TheMillstone: See NiceJobBreakingItHero.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Most of the Eds attempts usually fail because of his stupidity.
** {{Subverted|Trope}} in the movie where he not only saved the Eds via Flintstone style transportation but also defeated Eddy's Brother.

* RunningGag: His lack of a chin.
** And his terrible hygiene.

* SimpletonVoice: He has one.

* SuperStrength: Ed can ''lift a house as if it was a flower!''
** Oh, & one instance of him doing that, he was a ''toddler''.

* TheUnfavourite: Implied.

* AntiVillain: Most of the time they want to make money, no matter the means. However Ed and Edd are {{nice guy}}s and have a stronger moral code than some of the characters, especially Edd. Eddy also turns out to be one. See below.
** Ed and Edd are [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Villains in Name Only]], while Eddy is revealed to be a Woobie Anti-Villain.

** IronButtMonkey: To a truly extraordinary extent. They attract all kinds of AmusingInjuries.

* ExtremeDoormat: All three of them get pushed around easily to some degree and they never put a fight when the kids or Kankers attack them. Ed lets himself get bullied by his sister, Double D hardly stands up for himself when he gets blamed for something or mistreated by his friends or neighbors, and Eddy (despite being louder and more outspoken than the other two) almost never fights back when he's assaulted by the other characters.
** In the movie, Eddy is revealed to be this to his brother. He attempts to stay collected and calm while he's getting brutally beaten up, even when it's become clear to everyone that his brother's a vicious bully.

** Ed - Ego: Big, dumb, brutish, and easily swayed
** Edd - Superego: NeatFreak, The SmartGuy
** Eddy - Id: Schemer, the leader, ruled by his desires
** Depending on the nature of the episode, they sometimes switch roles: Rules-obsessed Edd can become the limiting Superego, while {{Cloudcuckoolander}} Ed can act as the Id. Ironically, when this happens, it puts no-self-control Eddy in the Ego position by default as he tries to reign in the extreme behavior of the other two and keep them focused on their goal (jawbreakers or money).
* GuiltByAssociationGag: They ''always'' fall victim to this, especially Edd. Edd is always beaten up along with the others when Eddy's schemes go south even though he's usually the voice of reason, trying to convince the other two that they should be doing something productive instead.
** Thankfully averted in some episodes like "One Size Fits Ed", "Brother, Can You Spare An Ed, "A Case Of Ed", "Too Smart for His Own Ed" and "Truth or Ed".
* HeterosexualLifePartners: They are rarely seen apart.

* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Edd and Ed are this to Eddy. When Edd decides to leave Eddy for real in the movie, he shatters apart like glass, and [[TearJerker is genuinely crying for the first time in the series.]] Because of his brother's abuse coupled with the neighbor kids' neglect, they must really mean a lot to Eddy.
** Really, the three are this to each other. Edd is broken after thinking his friends are dead, and Ed's worst fear is the Eds falling apart.

* MadeOfIron: These guys can really take a beating (and in fact, this trope applies to almost everyone else in this show). Edd, the weakest and most frail Ed, can survive having a house crush him at a toddler age.
** The only characters who doesn't apply to the above trope is Eddy's Brother (who is [[GlassCannon knocked-out cold by a flying iron door]]).

* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: The Kanker Sisters seem to inspire abject terror in the Eds due to their constant romantic pursuits.
** Ironically, in "A Twist of Ed", they seemed to enjoy being the ones doing the chasing, at least until it backfired on them.

* OnlyOneName: Like most characters (except Nazz and the Kankers) their last names are never revealed.

** ComicTrio: Eddy is the Schemer, Ed is the DumbMuscle, and Edd is the NoRespectGuy.

** Speaking of this, it could be the reason Edd didn't go batshit at Ed for what Eddy ''and'' he did in TheMovie. Edd only directed his calling out on Eddy because he knew Ed was too stupid to know better. It goes like this: Edd begins yelling at Eddy, Ed shouts "I helped too!" in his defense, in which Edd responds by glaring at him. He then proceeds to go back yelling at Eddy.

* WithFriendsLikeThese: [[NoRespectGuy Edd]] with Ed and Eddy. Especially evident in TheMovie, but subverted near the end.
** [[{{Jerkass}} Eddy]] in general towards both his friends. A good example is the episode "Pick an Ed" where Eddy (suspicious that the other kids are badmouthing him) goes undercover as a new kid named Carl, and then decides to ditch his friends and hang out with '''Kevin''' and the other kids.

* [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling Annoying Older Sibling]]: This is how Sarah sees him, despite Ed not trying to be annoying at all.

* FriendlyEnemy: Rolf, Nazz, Jonny and (sometimes) Jimmy can be this to the Eds. At least, until they aren't pushed too far by their scams.

* NiceHat: His trademark black hat. It hides something on his head, so much so that he's completely unwilling to take it off and would rather die then do so.

*** Or a model volcano that acts as a high-power vaccum that sucks Eddy's ''entire head ino it.''

* TheNicknamer: Has a complicated nickname for every character and character group, such as "snake-in-the-grass Ed boys", "Jonny the Wood Boy" or "Go-Go Nazz girl." Humorously, he once called [[BrattyHalfPint Sarah]] "She-Who-Gives-Migraines".

* FauxHorrific: Ed and Eddy's reaction to seeing broccoli.

** Insufferable genius he may be, but it's not like he's ''wrong'', given that his friends are often engaging in behavior that is either crazy or downright unethical. Edd can probably be excused, given his particular situation, for thinking highly of his moral standards in comparison.
*** It still doesn't change the fact he is an InsufferableGenius. For example, in "Too Smart for His Own Ed", he had already prepared his medal stand for the Spelling Bee competition that year, despite the fact he hadn't won it yet, and he didn't (Ed did).
*** Then there's also in "Dim Lit Ed" where he says that he's "SurroundedByIdiots", word by word. [[OnlySaneMan While it's]] [[JerkassHasAPoint partly true]], it's still a pretty smug assumption.

* GirlinessUpgrade: In the first four seasons Nazz was a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak and more or less OneOfTheBoys. In the school episodes she becomes a full blown GirlyGirl, a cheerleader and she starts wearing dresses more often.

* OnlySaneWoman: While she later becomes something of a ditz, she's always the most mature of the cul-de-sac kids.

* BookDumb: In "Too Smart for His Own Ed" he's unable to spell ("CURSE THIS MONKEY RITUAL OF ENGLISH WORDS!") and in "Mission Ed-Possible" he gets a D in typing on his report card. His other grades are unknown but in "Pick an Ed" he's seen feeding the results of his failed English tests to his goat ("This alphabet F confounds Rolf to no end!).

** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She shows genuine kindness and concern over her friend Jimmy. Also, while she generally can't stand Ed and his friends, she has a soft spot for Edd. She becomes a full-fledged one in the movie when she gives her brother a hug and starts being nice to him, Edd, and Eddy.
** JerkassHasAPoint: A lot of the time her perpetual anger at Ed isn't justified, but there are occasions where she is within her rights to be angry (Eddy stealing her diary, Ed spending her money on jawbreakers in "Brother, Can You Spare An Ed" and her room getting trashed ''several'' times over the series, for a start). She is also right in telling Ed he can't keep a bunch of farm animals in the house in "Who's Minding The Ed?", even if she went about it in her typically obnoxious way.
*** She also rats out Ed to the Kankers when he accidentally steals their Ship-Inna-Bottle, but they were tearing the cul-de-sac apart looking for it.

* ParentalIssues: See FreudianExcuse.

* CoolLoser: To some extent. She dresses like a punk rocker, and she's a smart, pretty LittleMissBadass. She's much cooler than Lee and May and has the least annoying voice of the three. However she's still a creepy stalker/bully like her sisters, and this explains why she's an outcast and Edd doesn't like her.
