At the center of the castle's chaos is the titular VillainProtagonist himself, Dr. Crafty. An art college dropout who turned to MadScientist-themed villainy, Crafty still wishes to pursue illustration on his own terms, making it the crux of not just his [=YouTube=] series, but his plan to TakeOverTheWorld... Wide Web. While he is indeed a mischievous showman with a mean streak, whatever threat he poses is usually undercut by his childishness, his undeservedly big ego, his ridiculously awful luck, and his reliance on Nurse Worse to complete most of the heavy lifting--both literally and figuratively. For the most part, he's content to experience the thrills his production brings with his cohorts, hoping to provide as much lucrative quality entertainment as he possibly can through his eccentric means.\\

A significant portion of the show is dedicated to exploring Crafty's past--back when he preferred to go by his real name, Colin Crafterson. The supervillain shtick is tied greatly to how haunted he is by some of the darkest points of his life, with an ex-girlfriend who vanished without a trace being at the center of it all. As these issues inevitably grow too prominent for him to ignore, and legitimately evil foes come to antagonize him and his crew, Crafty's act begins coming apart at the seams. It's during these times that Crafty's inner heart of gold shines brightest, and eventually, he begins letting more of his better qualities shine through his persona--even if it does put his advertised evilness into question.\\

Nurse stays by Crafty's side due to her crush on him, but because of their conflicts, it's a notion that's difficult for her to fully accept, but even harder for her to hide. At times, she drops painfully obvious romantic cues that Crafty never picks up on; from his perspective, he has no idea why Nurse is acting so strange. This leaves Nurse clumsily dodging the subject when she catches herself, and she discourages herself from expressing her feelings directly to Crafty. Not only is this crush a point of inner conflict for Nurse, but it's also deeply tied to a mysterious, sordid past she has no memory of. And when certain antagonists force her to remember some of it--or worse, ''relive'' it--she wishes it stayed forgotten.\\

A FrankensteinsMonster-esque girl reanimated and revived, Nurse Worse is Crafty's short, stout, yet strong right-hand woman, and the main co-host of the Dr. Crafty series. She is quite a bit more down to earth than Crafty, giving drawing tips frequently and trying her hardest at maintaining the natural order of things throughout the castle. Although her patience occasionally wanes, Nurse Worse is forever loyal to the Crafty Crew. She has no trouble indulging in the fun that Crafty's antics provide and will always use her strength to protect her friends against threats, comedic ones or otherwise. A huge contributing factor to this loyalty is her unsubtle crush on Crafty--a crush that Crafty somehow doesn't know about, yet Nurse doesn't have the heart to reveal it to him directly.\\

At first, her past is shrouded in mystery, with her memory only extending as far as when Crafty brought her back to life. Later, it becomes apparent that Nurse is instrumental in the plans of the truly villainous Dr. Mindstein--Nurse's abusive mother--who incorporated a replica of an important relic in Nurse's design. If everything goes in Mindstein's favor, Nurse is destined to unlock the true potential behind the related relics and become an unstoppable goddess, one that could wreak havoc on the universe. However, Nurse refuses to take part in such a twisted plan, having suffered years of mistreatment under Mindstein and having already achieved a fulfilling life with the Crafty Crew. Thus, she will fight tooth and nail alongside her friends, to ensure that her mother will never achieve her goals.\\

Although he failed art college in his youth, he hopes to use his [=YouTube=] series to eventually TakeOverTheWorld... Wide Web. Crafty's brash, egotistical, and quite childish, but most of all, he wants to entertain. He's ready to get crafty at any opportunity and eager to take himself and his Crew through exciting conversations and adventures.\\

All that said, there is quite a bit more to Crafty--or rather Colin, the man behind the act--under the surface. The supervillain shtick is really just one giant coping mechanism he wishes for people to take at face value. Deep down, he's quite a troubled young man, whose past--especially in regards to his ex-girlfriend and his depression--continues to haunt him. As he deals with these issues, it becomes clear that he does have a heart buried inside him, one far larger than his act would imply. Crafty grows much more comfortable expressing his tender side while he tackles these issues, improves his relationship with his crewmates, and faces down legitimately evil people. Yet, despite these problems, Crafty genuinely enjoys his time on the show; that part of himself is very much ''not'' an act.\\
