* Jerkass: In one episode, the General callously declines his Lieutenant's offer to evacuate the Bagge house upon learning that it's about to be struck by an oncoming meteor, despite the fact that there was presumably ample time for him to do so. The Lieutenant, for his part, does not protest or question his commander's order in the slightest.

Creator/BillieLouWatt

Eustace's mother. Rather equally a {{Jerkass}} to her son
as he is to Courage, she insults Eustace at every opportunity; and as a contrast to her son, she is nice to Courage. Occasionally she is the guy who narrates the show's opening.antagonist of a few episodes, especially when it has something to do with her wig-making company.

* FlatCharacter: He's not given much of a role beyond being the intro's narrator or an occasional reporter.
* KentBrockmanNews: Often appears to report on something unusual for local TV news.
* NervesOfSteel: Even in a TORNADO he doesn't even do anything CLOSE to panicking.
* TheNarrator: He describes the premise of ''Courage the Cowardly Dog'' during every opening sequence.
* NoNameGiven: He's never even addressed by any in-universe nickname, let alone by his real name.
* NoodlePeople: Like nearly everyone else, his limbs and torso are long and thin.
* ThePollyanna: He manages to remain cheerful in spite of the kinds of bleakness and disasters he has to report that only Nowhere would provide. The only time he's ever seen frowning is when he's affected by Dr. Zalost's unhappiness bombs in "The Tower of Dr. Zalost".
* SharpDressedMan: He wears a suit befitting an anchorman.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: He's got bright pink hair, which suits his optimistic disposition.

AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: The only time he's ever seen frowning she shows some affection for her son is the end of her debut episode, despite being mean to him most of the time.
* BaldOfEvil: She's bald, but she covers it up with her wig.
* BaldWoman: Her baldness makes her very insecure.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: She hasn't appeared in any episodes after "Scuba Scuba Doo", which may have been because of her voice actress's death.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: She's the [=CEO=] of Growth Industries, and occasionally does things that are unethical and/or illegal for her company's sake. It helps having many people on her payroll.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: She seems to like Courage. Downplayed after her debut episode
when he's affected by Dr. Zalost's unhappiness bombs she becomes more of a {{Tsundere}}. For example in "The Tower Sand Whale Strikes" she's initially friendly to Courage but then spends the rest of Dr. Zalost".

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: He's got bright pink hair, FieryRedhead: Well, she's bald but has a red wig. The "fiery" part still applies, though.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Much like her son, she has glasses and a LackOfEmpathy.
* FreudianExcuse: "[=McPhearson=] Phantom" implies her own childhood was pretty bad, too.
* {{Gonk}}: "I'm ugly! UGLY! UGLY!"
* HateSink: She is a greedy, selfish, slimy abusive parent. The fact that she makes the audience feel sorry for Eustace, who is a HateSink in his own right, speaks volumes about how horrible she is.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Makes fun of her son for being ugly and bald, even if she has the same problem and is aware of it.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's just as nasty and unpleasant as Eustace himself,
which suits [[TroubledAbuser explains]] where he got it from in the first place. In fact, she's such a jerk that ''[[NiceGirl Muriel]]'' of all people [[EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes hates her]] and doesn't mind showing it.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Downplayed, but it's implied that she has a love-hate relationship with Eustace, in the rare moments when she's more kind/vulnerable in front of him. However, she prefers to show her "heart of gold" [[PetTheDog to her son's dog instead]].
* LanternJawOfJustice: She has a huge chin, minus the justice.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: Much shorter than her son (who is not exactly young, either).
* MoralityPet: Seems to be this for her son [[{{Jerkass}} Eustace]]. Ironically, since she's always mean to him.
* MyBelovedSmother: She treats Eustace like Eustace treats Courage. Probably just a coincidence.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: To Muriel, so much that she's one of the few people [[AllLovingHero Muriel]] openly dislikes.
* OpaqueLenses: Much like everyone else in the series, her glasses completely obscure her eyes.
* ParentalFavoritism: She cared way more for Horst than [[TheUnfavorite Eustace]].
* PetTheDog: Sometimes she does show her nice side around Courage. This honestly just makes her worse though, because she's more than capable of being a kind person to Eustace, but still treats him like crap just because he isn't Horst. Whenever she treated Courage kindly, she only did it in front of Eustace which hurt
his optimistic disposition.feelings because she never treats him the same way.
** In "Bad Hair Day", she ''does'' give her son a scarce Pet the Dog moment by giving him and Courage collector's item wigs after escorting them out of Growth Industries.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: She's shorter than Eustace but also much stronger than him.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Her debut episode shows her being nice to Courage, when her later appearances seem to have her become harsher and more hostile toward him.
* UncertainDoom: It's never said for sure, but it's implied that she met her end in "Scuba Scuba Doo" when she got swept back by a tidal wave.
* UnnamedParent: Unlike her husband Ickett, her first name is never revealed.

Eustace's deceased brother.

* AbsentMindedProfessor: More specifically, an absent-minded doctor.
* BackAlleyDoctor: {{Lampshaded}} by Eustace. His knowledge and license seem questionable at best.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He's extremely absent-minded and incompetent. His response to getting ''mauled'' by a Weremole Muriel is to state that it's a bad case of ''chicken pox''.
* DressedToHeal: Though much of the time it feels that being dressed to give some useless advice and deny any possible solution would be more appropriate.
* EinsteinHair: A doctor with gray Einstein-esque hair.
* FunnyForeigner: He's a funny Indian {{Cloudcuckoolander}} who talks with a thick accent.
* GeniusDitz: Despite all of his incompetence, he has occasionally been a great help.
** In the episode "Invisible Muriel" he actually gives sensible advice to Courage, such as removing the invisibility stone to see if that'll make Muriel visible again, and when it's brought to him he figures out enough of its properties to know that it wouldn't work on dogs and make some headway in curing the condition, even if he discovered the actual cure by accident.
** In "The Transplant" though he's responsible for transforming Eustace into a Kangaroo Monster in the first place, he transforms Courage into a Kangaroo Monster as well so that he can rescue Muriel and, at the end of the episode, successfully removes the shard of bone from Courage and returning him to normal with (almost) no side-effects.
** In "Mondo Magic" while he admits there's nothing he can do, he correctly points out the cause of Muriel's transformation is black magic and his advice to Courage that "magic must be fought by magic" ultimately allows him to defeat the MonsterOfTheWeek.
** In "Goat Pain" he points Muriel and Courage towards the magic spring to heal her injured back.
* MadDoctor: Sometimes. He ranges from "incompetent and unhelpful" to "batshit insane and grossly unqualified."
* MadScientist: He did use an ancient creature's bone to try and turn Courage into a giant monster that could save Muriel. Most of the time however he doesn't feel as intelligent enough to be mad.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: His degree explicitly reads "M.D. Quack". He is also awfully easy to buy off, as he was willing to the sell the secrets of his ''doctor-patient confidentiality'' regarding Muriel. A
Paul Schoeffler

The sunny, upbeat anchorman of Nowhere News. You'll know him as the
guy of implied Chinese descent that makes small cameos in episodes where he almost runs into Courage (usually in his car) and says his catchphrase.who narrates the show's opening.

* AllThereInTheScript: He's never referred to by name, though his name is known.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Although he doesn't look like royalty, apparently his aunt is a Chinese empress (or at least has a claim to the throne). Di Lung and his aunt are definitely both evil though.
* AscendedExtra: Went from being a background character to an occasional antagonist.
* AsianAndNerdy: He's Chinese-American, and a genius scientist.
* AsianRudeness: He speaks with a Chinese accent and loves to hurl insults at people.
* AsianSpeekeeEngrish: He can speak English okay for the most part, but his grammar is kinda off.
* AwesomeMcCoolName: His name in English means "Big Dragon".
* BrainyBrunette: Has dark hair and is seemingly very smart, able to invent serums which transform people into animals, as well as a robot dog which can outperform a regular dog in practically every way.
* BreakoutVillain: He was popular enough with the fans to get a few major roles in episodes.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Watch where you're going, [[YouFool ya fooll]]!"
* ChewToy: Somewhat. What makes his appearances entertaining to watch despite him being an awful person, is the fact that he usually gets just enough time to say his Catchphrase and then suffer some either cartoony or outright lethal injury.
* CoolShades: He wears black sunglasses.
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Courage vs. Mecha Courage", "Courage The Fly", and "Squatting Tiger Hidden Dog".
* TheDragon: He is this to his Auntie Empress but at least twice he went freelance.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
The only time she shows some affection for her son is the end of her debut his episode "Mega Muriel the Magnificent" particularly suggests this, as he sees Courage risking his life to save others in spite of his fears in a new light and writes a happy ending for Courage's memoirs without prompting.

Paul Schoeffler

Nowhere's resident doctor (described as "M.D. Quack"). With poor medical skills and even worse observational skills, he tends to pass over clear problems (such as Muriel's massively swollen head) with his "advice" of "just keep soaking it". He's also willing to pass out patient records for large sums of money as shown in "Bad Hair Day". He is shown having a lot of fancy stuff like a pet pink elephant and a submarine as well.

* AmbiguouslyEvil: We know next to nothing about his personality, but given that his wife and both their sons are huge {{Jerkass}}es, it would be totally unsurprising if he was also an [[AbusiveDad unpleasant person]]. At the very least, we know he wasn't above stealing a sand-whale's accordion and leaving his family to deal with the consequences.
* TheGhost: We only see a photo of him, but he never appears in-person, not even in any of Eustace's childhood flashbacks.
* NoodleIncident: Long ago, he once [[ItMakesSenseInContext stole an accordion from a Sand Whale]], leading to an inter-family feud that lasted up to the present day.
* PosthumousCharacter: Muriel outright states that he's "no longer with us", while Ma Bagge believes Eustace can't fill up his late father's shoes (both figuratively and literally).
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks ''exactly'' like Eustace, down to wearing the same clothes, except Ickett had a [[BadassBeard big white beard]] and wore no hat. He's also implied to have a bigger shoe size than Eustace, according to his widow. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Eustace doesn't see any resemblance]].

* FunnyForeigner: He's a funny Indian {{Cloudcuckoolander}} who talks with a thick accent.
* GeniusDitz: Despite all of his incompetence, he has occasionally been a great help.

In "The Transplant" he's willing to use the fossilized bone of a Kangaroo Monster (a kangaroo the size of a T-Rex) in back surgery.

* JerkJock: He was an athletic and muscular braggart and very mean to his skinny younger brother Eustace, calling him useless and not a real man like him. Though it seems that he was also more intelligent.
* LanternJawOfJustice: Like the rest of his family, he has a large chin, minus the justice.
* NiceHat: As part of his explorer outfits.
* PosthumousCharacter:
AllThereInTheScript: He's already dead when we first hear of him, although Eustace does contact Horst's soul in the afterlife through Shirley's seance ritual, talking never referred to him by name, though his name is known.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Although he doesn't look
like royalty, apparently his aunt is a phone conversation.
* SinisterShades: Like
Chinese empress (or at least has a claim to the rest of throne). Di Lung and his family he wore glasses, aunt are definitely both evil though.
* AscendedExtra: Went from being a background character to an occasional antagonist.
* AsianAndNerdy: He's Chinese-American,
and like the rest of his family he was evil.
a genius scientist.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Less so than his brother. Horst looks almost like his dad, but AsianRudeness: He speaks with more muscle, a tan, Chinese accent and no beard.loves to hurl insults at people.

* {{Troll}}: CoolShades: He hid the key wears black sunglasses.
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Courage vs. Mecha Courage", "Courage The Fly", and "Squatting Tiger Hidden Dog".
* TheDragon: He is this
to his money box Auntie Empress but at least twice he went freelance.
* EvilGenius: He is very competent in robotics and also dabbles in alchemy and the occult, being capable of not only creating shapeshifting potions, but also knowing how to use the dark arts in a case of PoweredByAForsakenChild, to sacrifice the bones of a pure person (Muriel) to reclaim his diabolical aunt's power.
* FunnyForeigner: As blatantly stereotypical as he is, the way Di Lung speaks with his thick Chinese accent (and sometimes [[{{Engrish}} imperfect English]]) is used as a source of humor.
* HypocriticalHumor: Despite his catch phrase [[NeverMyFault he's just as likely to be the one not paying attention]], [[IWasJustPassingThrough or whoever he says it to didn't have a choice
in the last place where matter]]. Sometimes he even puts himself in harm's way (for example, one time he stood in the middle of the street before getting hit by a truck). [[JerkassHasAPoint Even Eustace sort of points this out]] [[BorrowedCatchphrase by using the catch phrase himself]].
* InkSuitActor: He is modeled after Tim Chi Ly (the guy who did his voice).
* InsufferableGenius: He's very smart and has a rude and stuck-up personality.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's very rude to all passers by.
* JerkassHasAPoint: On the rare occasion where he says his catch phrase [[NotMeThisTime and wasn't in the way first]]. Not that it will change the result...
* LackOfEmpathy: His [[{{Sadist}} amusement at the beating]] that Courage gets at the hands of his robot gradually turns into frustration and anger, not out of any concern for the opponent of course, but because [[EvilCannotComprehendGood he really doesn't understand why he just won't give up and let him win]].
* LaserGuidedKarma: Like Eustace, he will usually pay for being a jerk.
* LeanAndMean: A skinny {{Jerkass}}.
* MadScientist: He has created the Mecha-Courage robot, and also potions that can [[BalefulPolymorph turn people into]] [[{{Animorphism}} flies or buffalo]].
* NoodlePeople: Very long and thin body.
* RecurringExtra: He
would look: often pop up very briefly to utter his catchphrase. He was essentially an extra until about halfway through the series, when he became more active in the plot.
* RedRightHand: For some doubtlessly bizarre reason, he gave himself a sixth toe on his left foot.
* RepeatingSoTheAudienceCanHear: Whenever the Evil Empress says something in Chinese, he reiterates it in English.
* SinisterShades: A sinister person who always wears glasses, and at times he has sinister plans.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He is over-confident
in his hat's brim.talents to the point that he calls himself "perfect".
* SmarterThanYouLook: He's actually quite smart when you think that he was able to build things like Mecha-Courage or create magic potions (even if at first he failed at making what he wanted: a water buffalo). He was also a former student of the "Perfect" Teacher.
* TheSociopath: He has absolutely no moral qualms. He can hurt a dog out of sadism, or horribly kill an old lady out of a desire for power, even if said power is for someone else. If he wasn't used as a background character most of the time, he would take more credit as one of the show's evilest villains.
* TotallyRadical: He may be an {{Asian|AndNerdy}} MadScientist, though you probably wouldn't know that at first, because of his casual clothing, irreverent attitude, and use of street slang.
* TriangleShades: As seen in the image, his sunglasses have triangular lenses.
* VerbalTic: Has a habit of adding "[[YouFool ya fool']]" to the end of certain catchphrases.
