* BlackAndNerdy: He references ''ComicBook/{{Daredevil}}'' #181 as part of a PerpSweating and later [[PersonAsVerb name-drops]] several versions of Franchise/TheFlash. He has also been seen playing on a UsefulNotes/GameBoyColor on occasion.

* BadassNormal: Gunn, Fred, Wesley and Cordy start working with Angel on his baddie-busting without similar powers to his own. This changes over time as they all learn how to fight against the (often superpowered) baddies they face, and Angel straight up acknowledges that by the end of the series, Gunn and Cordelia are almost as good as he and Spike are in a hands on fight.

* FromBadToWorse: If there's anything you don't want to happen to your child, it's happened to Connor: [[spoiler:Before he was even born he was wanted by an assortment of evil people, kidnappers, and a very angry demon. That's just the big things.

** Cordelia and Wesley bicker and taunt each other mercilessly, but they are good friends, and are always there to defend each other in times of danger. If it wasn't for the accent difference, they could almost be brother and sister.

** They get to play around with the implications of a vampire with a human son. Connor isn't averse to many uniquely vampiric weaknesses, and so can go places and do things that Angel can't, but he can die from things that won't kill a vampire, like suffocation or loss of blood. In one of his first episodes back from Quor-toth, Angel loses Connor when he can't follow him into the sunlight, and later has to shield him from a hail of gunfire.

* LikeADuckTapsIntoWater: He seems to never have any trouble or problems adapting his new life on Earth once he accidently stranded there. Than again, it's later revealed he was an outcast in Pylea and never fit in there, fitting much more into Earth with their music and pop culture.

* AlienArtAreAppreciated: In his home dimension Pylea the concept of music and singing is unknown. Once he entered Earth dimension he took such a liking in human music he decided to open a karaoke bar. He's also able to read people's future when they're singing.

* IntercontinuityCrossover: In ''[[ComicBook/FallenAngel Fallen Angel: Reborn]]''.

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: The entire fourth season, with one exception — that brief period when they were all mind controlled into working together. The depths of distrust, resentment, and betrayal spread through the team meant that imminent apocalypse was pretty much the only thing that could get them in the same room. This was especially noticeable between Gunn and Wesley, due to the latter's betrayal over the Connor affair and his interest in Fred. Furthermore, when pressed, Gunn confesses he can never be friends with Angel, his natural enemy. In Season 5 this happens between Angel and Spike, usually PlayedForLaughs.

* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The team consists of a brooding vampire, an upbeat California girl, a sardonic Irish demon, an English ex-watcher turned rogue demon hunter, an ex-gangbanger, a talkative Texas girl who spent five years imprisoned in another dimension and a green-skinned demon who loves showtunes.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: it was rumoured that in season 5 Angel would tell Fred to take down Harmony's "Muscle Bound Hunks" calendar and she would recognise one of the models as the Groo.

* CompositeCharacter: Cordelia embodies several qualities of Buffy's GirlPosse cronies Kimberly and Nicki from [[Film/BuffyTheVampireSlayer the original movie.]] Like Kimberly, she can be the most catty, vapid, and over-the-top ValleyGirl in the room. And like Nicki, Cordelia is the sole person of color in Buffy's high school circle and shows some HiddenDepths by being willing to fight vampires after learning of their existence, even while clearly being terrified by the experience.

* ActionGirl: She gradually becomes this, proving herself time and time again in combat situations with all kinds of weaponry. She's also skilled in unarmed combat and is good enough to take down trained security guards and even military personnel.
* AllLovingHero: Caring and compassionate, most notably her interactions with Spike. When he confided in her that he was being slowly dragged into Hell, Fred worked tirelessly to build a machine that would restore his corporeal body. She was the first to believe that Spike was "worth saving" and though her efforts ultimately failed, she nonetheless earned Spike's perpetual gratitude.
* AmbiguouslyBi: She gushes over Willow to the point where Willow feels the need to tell her she's already seeing someone.

* AGodAmI: She's prone to making grand proclamations of her former Godhood.

* BaitAndSwitch: She's initially set up as a huge threat, destroying one of the main characters to such a degree that she can never be resurrected, and may possibly be an OmnicidalManiac who will use her legions to wipe out mankind. When it turns out her army and empire had turned to dust aeons ago, she's completely lost, eventually settling for becoming an AloofAlly to Angel & co.
