Pre-orcus Hajime would have loved to meet her, as one of his goals was going to the Sea of Trees to encounter a real-life bunny girl, and not as a slave. Heck, even Hajime notes that had he met Shea prior to going through Orcus, he would have happily taken her up on her romantic overtures and done a "lupin dive" right into her chest.

Heck, even Hajime notes that had he met Shea prior to going through Orcus, he would have happily taken her up on her romantic overtures and done a "lupin dive" right into her chest.

There're spoilers on some of the characters' profiles and tropes, keep in mind when reading.

!Hajime's Party
"The World's Strongest" as well as Hajime's UnwantedHarem, they travel across the world looking to conquer the Great Labyrinths; Hajime in the hopes of finding the magic to send him back home, the girls mainly to get into Hajime's pants.

[[folder: General]]
* AntiHero: They're the protagonists but that doesn’t make them heroes. Hajime's main motivation is to find the magic to send him back to Japan, and the girls follow out of love for him.
* RagtagBunchofMisfits:
* WrongContextMagic: PlayedWith in that the magic they use isn't so much unheard of so much as so ''old'' no-one's never heard of it. It doesn't help that two of the group are from races long thought extinct and another's from what is known [[spoiler: until recently]] as the "hippie tribe" of the Beastmen.

The main character, a stereotipical nice guy, who's an otaku and bully victim, his story begins with a slew of bad luck: taken along with his class to a different world by some gods, given a crappy job and crappy stats, falling down to the depths of the Abyss under dubious circumstances, and mentally broken to the point where he decides survival is all that matters. Becoming ruthless and incredibly powerful by surviving the Orcus Dungeon, as well as encountering a vampire girl who becomes his companion, he quickly gave up all thoughs of revenge in search of a way back home after realizing the truth abyss he was trapped in, and will mercilessly deal with anyone or anything that opposes him or his companions in this endeavor. Loves only Yue [[spoiler: and Shea, eventually]] , but cares for all of his companions.

Specialized in Transmutating his environment, He uses a collection of guns crafted by him with this ability using fantasy ores and components. He also has the ability to gain the skills of any monster he eats.

----

* AccidentalProposal: When Hajime crafts the depleted God Crystal into jewelry for Yue and a MagicEye for himself, she immediately takes it as a marriage proposal, and she doesn't let him say "no."
** Used again by Tio in volume 6, this time Hajime denies her very clearly.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: In the manga, Ishtar and the nobles have even less justification for calling him "incompetent" as he's noted asking intelligent questions and trying to gather as much information about the world of Tortus, his own abilities and the abilities of others while everyone else is too busy preening and pumping themselves up with their own perceived superiority.
* AdrenalineMakeover: Hard to believe they're the same person, though Hajime does note that his personality has ''greatly'' changed thanks to his experiences in the Orcus dungeon, to match the change in appearance.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: He loves to pet Yue on the head when praising her, and she loves being pet on the head. He later does the same to the rest of his harem when he wants to show them genuine kindness.
* AllTheOtherReindeer: He got bullied, alot. Partially because he's the {{Otaku}} son of two otaku parents, but additionally because the most popular girl in class gives him the time of day.
* AndThenWhat: In universe and out. He's well aware that returning to Japan as he is now is going to cause problems, not to mention bringing Yue along for the ride. It's the primary reason he gave up on vengeance, because he can't really be bothered by what comes after. It's still his goal to return home, however. He'll just deal with those problems when he faces them, as he's got too much on his plate to deal with right now to even think about it.
* AnArmAndALeg: First thing that happens in chapter 5 of the manga is getting his arm ripped off by the Talon Bear, because it was still hungry after eating the Kicking Rabbit.
* ArtificialLimbs: In the Orcus dungeon, [[spoiler: he builds an artifact to replace his lost arm.]]
* AuraVision: He eventually crafts a "demon eye" to replace his own lost eye and it allows him to see the flow and patterns of mana in spells.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He's the only one able to hold off Behemoth because he used his lone "Transmute" skill in very creative ways when nothing the others had could even scratch it.
* BadassLongcoat: Takes up one while traveling through the Orcus dungeon.
** BadassInANiceSuit: In the manga, Hajime's post-Orcus outfit is slacks, a button-down shirt, and necktie, topped off with a [[WaistcoatOfStyle waistcoat]]. All worn under the badass longcoat, natch. His LN outfit is similar but more Victorian in style, with an ascot tie.
* BattleCouple: With Yue, even when other members join the party, their teamwork is always the best, since they don't even need to talk to each other to work in tandem.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He curses Shirasaki and the three top "cool kids" in his heart, wishing they'd all be whisked away to another world, so he'd be left alone. His whole class winds up being thus whisked away, including himself.
* BerserkButton: Don't even have bad intentions against his companions, you can curse him all you want, but even try to touch any of them and you will find a whole new meaning to the terms "fear" and "pain."
** Myuu becomes a gigantic BerserkButton for him, to the point [[spoiler:he casually threatens Freid with genocide against the devil folk if something happens to her, when she gets kidnapped.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Complete with RescueRomance. Once to whole class, twice to Shizuku.
* {{Bishonen}}: The light novel and the manga draws him on the 2 types: he appears more youthful and has a round face in the LN while he has sharper features in the manga.
* {{Bookworm}}: He starts life in Tortus studying every book of lore he can get his hands on. Transitions into BadassBookworm after taking a few levels in badass as a result of his experiences in the Orcus dungeon.
* CameBackStrong: As pictured above, the effects of having his body broken down and rebuilt constantly in its attempt to survive after drinking the Sacred Water converted Hajime's GeekPhysique into a leanly muscular one due to his body "overcompensating" for the injuries it sustained before and during the healing process. Even more importantly, all of his stats got massive boosts on top of gaining the ability to [[CannibalismSuperpower gain the powers of demons and monsters by consuming their normally toxic flesh.]] Combined with his anger over being betrayed and his ruthless ingenuity, our ClassicalAntiHero quickly became an AntiHero OneManArmy.
* CessationOfExistence: After ehito snatched Yue's body and he recovered to some extent, [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge He proceeds to lash around]] with this newfound ability,And victims are many.
* ChickMagnet: Gains the feelings and love of multiple women as the story goes on.
* {{Chuunibyou}}: In the past, when he was in middle school. It's also how he thinks his current appearance looks, having an eyepatch that covers his MagicEye and a black artificial left arm. This realization made him VERY depressed, but he got over it.
* ClassicalAntihero: At first, he had all the signs, including horrifically poor self-esteem. The bullying and insults he received for his "incompetence" didn't help. Being betrayed and dumped into the Abyss, and the horrific circumstances down there very nearly made him a VillainProtagonist.
* CleanPrettyReliable: When Shea drowned and was unresponsive after the party was literally flushed out of Raisen dungeon, into a lake, Hajime does give her proper CPR, but both Shea and Yue interpret his actions as a romantic overture. Fortunately, Yue allows it as she believes that ''just this once'', Shea did earn it.
* DeathFromAbove: [[spoiler: [[KillSat Hyberion]] and its "light of condemnation. As the chapter name implies. ]]
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: While it may not matter much to a western audience, to a Japanese audience, taking up a gun as a weapon, for a law-abiding citizen, is a major taboo. So this serves as a metaphor of how badly he's fallen. Even after teaming up with Yue, he doesn't go back to using anything else.
* {{Defrosting Ice King}}: Slowly, as the story goes on the girls manage to soften him.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: In manga,We got this gem.
--->'''Hajime''': Now that you're our [[TrueCompanions companion]],If you go off and die,I will have to beat you to death.
--->'''Shia''': Hajime-san,you are not making any sense.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Comes quite close to completely cross it, at the very least the grief of losing Yue made him unlock a conceptual magic of [[CessationOfExistence ''denying all existences'']], since to him, if Yue isn't in this world, this world doesn't deserve to exist.]],cue GetAHoldOfYourSelfMan .
* DevotedToYou: Post-Orcus, Yue is the only thing in his mind, apart of wanting to go home, no love confession will work, no amount of seduction will sway him (other than Yue's, of course, in that case is always a CriticalSuccess.) and he treats all other females as annoyances that should go home. [[spoiler: The only reason the UnwantedHarem stopped being so is due to Yue, who is as devoted as Hajime, slowly getting him to approve of Shea.]]
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: He knew eating magical beast meat was a lethal poison, but being half-crazed with starvation, and having no other food source, he did it anyway. If it wasn't for the God Crystal he found, he would have died. Even with the God Crystal, he was given a nice taste of hell.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler: He is the ''GodSlayer'' in his own right. ]]
* DiseaseBleach: The enormous strain inflicted on his body from being torn apart by the consequences of eating lightning wolf meat and being put back together by the God Crystal changed his hair from the standard Japanese black, to MysticalWhiteHair, and gave him TaintedVeins.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Are you his enemy? Then you are most likely dead. Examples of this, a Criminal Group kidnapped little Myuu and tried to abduct Shea in the process. The result was the total annihilation of said group.
* DrillSergeantNasty: As he's training the Haulia, he frequently compares himself to the Sergeant in "Full Metal Jacket," the movie that named the trope.
* DudeWhereIsMyRespect: He finds himself on both ends of the trope, on one hand, not many take him seriously, and MuggingTheMonster is a common occurrence, on the other, it's usual for him to deny any and all respect to those in power, to the point the only leader in Tortus that had a polite treatment from him was Tio's grandfather, for causes completely unrelated to his rank.
* TheDulcineaEffect: He went from being willing to abandon Yue in her sealing room, to fight a very tough fight against the scorpion guardian for her sake in a spam of five minutes tops. Their common experiences with betrayal is what motivated him.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: His eyes post-transformation lack most of the glint or life they used to have, instead being a constant blood red with tiny pupils.
* EveryoneHasStandards: While it is true that he doesn't give a whit about the problems of Tortus natives, unless they happen to impact his own interests, he pointedly strives to avoid making them worse, if he can help it. He holds Yue back [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil when some Imperial Soldiers/Slavers threaten to rape her]], not because he was concerned about her bloodying her hands with human refuse, but to test precisely how much power he should use to penetrate their armor without having to worry about the bullet passing through the soldiers, and blowing up the house behind them, killing the completely innocent dwellers within.
* EternalLove: Hajime has no intent of dying before Yue and leaving her alone... and Yue is immortal due to her self-regeneration. [[spoiler:By the time of the after story he wonders if he has a lifespan anymore due to his irregular nature, and still has vampirism, metamorphosis magic, soul magic and apostle conversion to ensure he won't die of age.]]
* ExtremeDoormat: Pre-Tortus, pretty much the entire class picked on him. The SchoolIdol actually being nice to him only served to make this worse as the jealousy generated resentment directed at himself.
* EyepatchOfPower: He covers his Magic Eye with this.
* EyeScream: In the battle with the Hydra, he loses his right eye while protecting Yue.
* FatalFlaw: As exposed in the Fea Bergen dungeon, Yue is his greatest weakness, since without her he stops caring about details such as friendly fire, or mercy and gets angry much quicker. [[spoiler:This weakness is exploited quite harshly by Ehitorujue, when he possesses Yue, almost making him cross the DespairEventHorizon and turning him into a WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds.]]
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: He and Kaori actually met before high-school, back when he was an early middle-schooler, but he had forgotten all about it, until Kaori went and mentioned it, and he still didn't remember it.
* FoolForLove: He's an extremely cynical anti-hero who cares not about others and needs to be convinced to land a hand even in the most simple of circumstances, he's also head over heels for Yue, forgets any basic etiquette rules if he's charmed by her, and his cool facade will quickly crumble into a mushy pink space if they start staring into each other's eyes. This happens quite often.
* FriendToAllChildren: He cares for children, and his first public act was to humiliate himself so a bully would spare a small child that ''accidentally'' splashed his clothes with a soda. Even after his despair, he still manage to be a older-brother/father figure to Myuu.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: [[spoiler: After Yue got possessed]], [[TokenMiniMoe Myuu]], of all people,is the one to pull this on him. And it works, following with a conga line of punches from the rest of his party.
** On the other hand, much earlier, he gave one to Cam and the rest of Haulia clan who, at that time,[[KillEmAll started being genocidal]] to the bearmen army. This only happened in the manga, though.
--->'''Hajime''': "Excuse me for misunderstanding, because your [[NightmareFace expression]] [[HeWhoFightsMonsters look like that of the soldiers attacked you long time ago]]."
* GatlingGood: Metzelei(Means [[KillEmAll massacre]])
* GenerationXerox :Both himself and Oscar Orcus are "synegist" and was ridiculed by their peers, their attitude is at mainly creation magic.
* GenreSavvy: Being an otaku, he's well aware of the TrappedInAnotherWorld trope and its implications. In the light novel, this makes him far, far more calm and composed than the rest of his class, including Aiko-sensei, who all as went into a full blown panic when Ishtar said they couldn't go back. In fact, he happily lampshades that it could have been worse. They could have been summoned as slaves.
* GoodIsNotNice: When entering Tortus, he was the penultimate NiceGuy. After his experiences in Orcus dungeon, he's come to the conclusion that he can no longer afford it. As such, he's rude, crude, and highly unpleasant, with little to no moral scruples about doing whatever it takes to make it home to Japan alive. Still, he's a decent and upright individual and doesn't attack you unless you go out of your way to provoke him first.
* GratuitousGerman: He tends to name his weapons in German when he isn't naming them in Japanese. For example, "Donner"[[note]]Thunder[[/note]], "Orkan"[[note]]Hurricane[[/note]], and "Schlagen"[[note]]to hammer, hit, or strike something[[/note]].
* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: His HeroicSacrifice in holding off the Behemoth was quashed by Ishtar, and the nobles of the human kingdom in Tortus. Not only do the classmates delude themselves into thinking he fell down into the Abyss from his own clumsiness, but the nobles all sigh in relief, spreading rumors that "only the incompetent one died" and even Ishtar clamped down, forbidding any kind of investigation into his supposed death, pressuring the king to do the same. Captain Meld of the knights was clearly not pleased with that decision, but was powerless to overturn it.
* TheGunslinger: Types A and C, mainly.
* GunKata: He fights with his two guns.
* HandCannon: His guns amount to miniature rail cannons in pistol form that reduce most monsters to a bloody paste.
* HandicappedBadass: Lost and arm and an eye in Orcus dungeon, doesn't stop him from kicking ass, taking names, and then kicking more ass.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: While he did miss out on some rather nifty powers when he found out he was a "Synergist," the way he applies his one and only skill not only allowed him to restrain the Behemoth, alone, but allowed him to survive the first level of the Abyss, for ''40 days'' when any of the "cool" kids that got all those nifty powers and abilities wouldn't have lasted '''40 seconds.'''
* HeroicNeutral: He doesn't give two shits about Tortus or its people, regardless of race. All he cares about is getting home and keeping his TrueCompanions safe and sound. Anything that aligns with that, you've got yourself a powerful ally. Oppose it, and may the gods have mercy on your soul, because he won't.
* {{Hammerspace}}: Which he calls "treasure warehouse"
* ICallItVera: He has a penchant for naming anything and everything he builds, like his first rail-gun being named "Donner." [[note]]meaning "Thunder"[[/note]].
* IdiotHair: Has a notable ahoge at the start of the story, but loses it after his transformation, representing his loss of innocence and his newly lethal ingenuity.
* IGaveMyWord: The one virtue of his that universally survived his experiences in Orcus dungeon is that he keeps his promises, to the best of his ability. [[GoodIsNotNice That being said, one may not like the manner by which he keeps them.]]
* ImNotAHeroIm: In the beginning, he really had a poor sense of self-esteem and didn't see himself as worthy of being called "hero" or having the affections of Shirasaki.
* ImplacableMan: When he is at full blown rage he will wipe all enemies out '''Personally''' with nothing to stop him
* ImprobableAimingSkills: By the time he starts training the Haulia clan to defend themselves, he has mastered the "pointless" skill of being able to hit his target, without fail, by using ricochets off of anyone and anything nearby, making his aim truly unpredictable.
* InvincibleHero: After Orcus, Hajime only met three enemies that forced him to go all out [[spoiler:the apostle Nointo, Freid, who almost killed him with an ambush, but still only managed to get a draw, and Ehitorujue, who in their first fight utterly curbstomped him and left him for dead.]] Other than them? ''nothing'' was able to even slow him down. Even fighting against a doppleganger of himself in a SecretTestOfCharacter, instead of following the rules to weaken his enemy, Hajime simply decided to improve himself in the middle of the fight and overpower his opponent the hard way.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Yue, a vampire.
* InsecureLoveInterest: At first. He really wasn't feeling up to being asked out by a girl, especially the SchoolIdol.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For all his unpleasant qualities, he still has a noble and decent core to his personality, and every follower he has follows him, willingly, because of it.
* KavorkaMan: While he's not exactly hideous, the female followers he has follow him precisely because he's jagged around the edges. This is because he shows the world his personality as it really is, as opposed to hiding behind delusions of his own grandeur (Kouki), or pretending to be someone he isn't to draw people to him and then exploit them (Hiyama). The latter two who attract women purely on good looks or a personality that's entirely false can not comprehend this.
* KidnappedByTheCall: He and his entire class were summoned to Tortus, supposedly by the god, Eht, to help against the war with "Demons," completely without anybody's informed consent.
* KlingonScientistsGetNoRespect: As a blacksmith, he gets no respect from the flashy magicians or "mighty warriors" whose weapons he may well need to craft. At least before he meets Yue in the Orcus dungeon.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He never would have survived the Orcus dungeon if he hadn't rescued Yue and won her loyalty.
** Even if mostly unwilling, or reluctant, his good deeds come back to him over and over, and in the end guide him to victory, he would have never prevailed alone, or with only Yue.
* LoveRedeems: He was ''this'' close to become a brutal VillainProtagonist, were it not for meeting Yue and mellowing enough to later be able to hear Shea and Aiko out.
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: To the hilt. All the bullying he's received plus the betrayal while fighting the Behemoth made him reach the point where he's StoppedCaring about the rest of his class, or social etiquette, period. If being polite and pleasant gets you killed, why bother?
* MasterOfAll: As far as his stats are involved, Hajime has no peer at any role, subverted since his magical aptitude is abysmal, so while his magic power ''doubles'' Yue, it's usefulness is limited to those skills he can acquire from devouring monsters, artefacts, God magic, or transmutation.
* MagicEye: After losing his right eye to the Hydra, he crafted a new Artifact one with Creation Magic, called the Devil/Magic Eye, which is equipped with all sorts of magic sensing abilities. It always glows, forcing him to wear an eyepatch.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler: In the end he caved in and simply chose to marry everyone, Yue is still the main wife, though.]]
* MegaManning: And how. Every time he eats the meat of a new species of Magical Beast, he gains its unique magical ability, at least as long as the new beast is at least as strong, if not stronger than ones he's eaten before.
* MuggingTheMonster: On the receiving end, to the point of RunningGag. Considering that very, very few of his enemies live long enough to get the word out...
* NiceToTheWaiter: While he doesn't see any merit in being needlessly polite, he will respond in kind if people are polite to him and his first, especially if they're in any kind of service industry. He treats the adventurer's guild receptionist he meets in volume 2 with respect because, even though she's somewhat snarky, treated him professionally and courteously first.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: He rescues the entire class from the Behemoth, at incredible risk and effort, only to get blasted by one of the fireballs that was supposed to be the cover-fire for his own escape, sending him down into the Abyss for his troubles. This clearly does not do good things for his mental stability. Freeing Yue also got him attacked by a Magical Beast that was way out of his class, but at least he got rewarded for that, and big time.
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: For a while, he objected, quite loudly, every time Yue "pushed him down," even though the truth is that he greatly enjoyed the experience.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Victim of this when the bridge he was standing on broke and he was dumped into the Abyss. He got washed down a bunch of little waterfalls, like a waterpark slide from hell, until he woke up on the Abyss floor's first level.
* {{Oblivious to Love}}: Averted, he was aware of Kaori's feelings, and he actually felt grateful for them, but still kept his distance, since her affections meant getting bullied more. With Yue he was well aware of their mutual attraction, but still tried to keep his distance due to her young appearance and the dangers of the abyss, once those dangers passed he was immediately assaulted by her, and his meagre resistance ended. Post-Orcus he's quite sensitive to the unrequited feelings of all to come near him, but still shoots them down due to his absolute loyalty to Yue.
* {{Otaku}}: He has a game developer and a manga artist for parents, he wouldn't have come out any other way.
* PapaWolf: Towards Myuu, just don't scare, hurt or try to do anything to her.
* PragmaticHero: Yes, he is firmly on the "heroic" scale of morality, even if it is protagonist centered; however, he's not too hung up on the legality of his actions, or nuanced moral debates. He makes most of his decisions purely on cost-benefit analysis. That being said, don't try to strong-arm him into breaking his word, as he has no hesitation in going to ''all-out war'' to uphold it.
* RazorFloss: At his utmost rage ,he release a storm consist of something like a chain which dancing in the air,cut anything it touched [[UnblockableAttack ignoring any defense]] and [[CessationOfExistence erased them]],with himself as a center. this ability [[RealityWarper overwrote the information]] of the target that said ‘exist’ into ‘doesn’t exist’.
* RedBaron: [[TheDreaded "The Demon king"]] ,Which fits his ruthless behavior rather perfectly.
* RescueRomance: Because he rescues Yue, she falls in love with him. This also happen with Shea, albeit on a somewhat larger scale
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: When Myuu is seized from the local equivalent of a police station by the criminal gang that kidnapped and enslaved her, [[RefugeInAudacity using explosives]], said gang made one critical mistake, they sent him a ransom note and put his face on a wanted poster. Say hello to the total annihilation of the gang.
* RunningGag: He suffers from two of them. The first is that he's the near constant victim of MuggingTheMonster regarding one or more of the attractive ladies in his party, all of whom pestered him to let her join, one way or another. The second is the constant event of Yue and Hajime getting lost on each other's eyes and creating a "Pink space", to the annoyance of all unrequited love interests. It should be noted that if left uninterrupted, these pink spaces tend to heat up, quickly.
* SanitySlippage: Subverted. Meeting with Yue saved him from going psychotic, but he was still briefly DrivenToMadness by his ordeal.
* ScienceHero: While his stats are sky high, he never stops developing new tools to ensure his advantage is as strong as possible, it can range from a capsule that gets melted inside his stomach, releasing Ambrosia, to a KillSat capable of purging a hundred thousand enemies.
* SingleTargetSexuality: After becoming a couple with Yue he more or less forgets other girls in the world exist, but he still can recognise their attractiveness, it's just that if Shea, Kaori, Tio and Yue were to try the same clothes, or suggestive actions, while he will acknowledge the former's actions, he will be instantly smitten by the latter. [[spoiler:Eventually opens himself to Shea, admitting that he also loves her, and post story he allows the other harem members to be pampered by him.]] Still, only Yue is special and if forced to choose he will always chose her in a heartbeat.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: He's not opposed to smacking his girls around in a comical, painful, but decidedly ''not harmful'' or destructive manner when they get on his nerves or out of line. Tio is a specially common target of this.
* TheSoCalledCoward: The kids who bully him are fond of calling him "a gutless wimp," but in chapter 4 of the manga, he holds off the Behemoth, ''alone'' while the rest of the class tries to break out of the trap Hiyama sprung with his grade-A idiocy.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: On the receiving end. Ishtar and the human nobles of Tortus only had nasty things to say when they heard he "died" in Orcus dungeon. Kouki, of all people, was the most incensed by it.
* StockLightNovelHero: Double subverted. He never wanted to be the hero. He was perfectly content to hang out in the background and provide support with his "Synergist" skill, learning to use it in creative ways, despite the cruel treatment he got from his class. Then he saved them from a Behemoth, only to get blasted down a pit for his trouble and left for dead. Then as he crawled his way back out, meets Yue, falls in love, gives up on vengeance, and gets a harem so unwanted, he's shot at some of them, repeatedly, and that still doesn't stop them from following him around and trying to get into his pants.
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: Averted by the narrowest of margins, and then only because he met Yue. If not for her, he would have easily become an true and utter sociopath, caring only about his own survival and killing everyone and everything in his way.
* TerrifyingRescuer: The way he rescues what remains of the Haulia clan from the Imperial soldiers/slavers is so brutal, by Haulia standards, that Hajime utterly terrifies them, and remember, this is with Hajime holding back to gauge the minimum force required to breech human armor while minimizing collateral damage.
* TookALevelInCynic: At the start of the story, he would have rescued Yue without hesitation. After his nightmarish ordeal in the Orcus dungeon, he came very, very close to abandoning her in her prison because he believed her existence was nothing more than SchmuckBait. Fortunately, he does ultimately decide to rescue her, even if it was for pragmatic as opposed to moral reasons.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In the beginning, he was adorkable, for being an insecure otaku, too scared of bullying to chat with a pretty girl. Then the "cool kids" betrayed him and dropped him into the Abyss of the Orcus dungeon, where he damn near lost his mind with thoughts of vengeance.
* TrueLove: With Yue, the relationship is strong enough Hajime was able [[spoiler:to solve a SpotTheImposter situation instantly even before her fake got to say a word. Also, when he saw her turned into a goblin he didn't mind her new look that much, and his inner thoughts made it clear that even if he wouldn't have been able to turn her back, he would have loved her all the same.]] Their relationship is strong enough that even when their feelings got temporarily reverted, they still worked in tandem, with just the barest amount of backstabbing.
* {{Tsundere}}: After meeting again with Aiko, Hajime stops rejecting all help requests instantly, but he still plays it tough, usually wordlessly asking Yue (who never says not to anything he wants to do) and making it look like he only does it for the profit, even if there is no profit, or said profit is of no consequence to him. He just can't admit caring about anyone other than his important ones. He even gets called this InUniverse.
* TsurimeEyes: After his transformation, his TaremeEyes became these in order to emphasize how hardened and cynical he is now compared to before.
* UltimateBlacksmith: He has crafted and designed all his weapons (plus Shea's hammer) along with many other artifacts, between them there're Unmanned Flying Reconnaissance units, a two and four wheeled vehicles, a whole set of communication items, a flying ship, etc...
* UnluckilyLucky: To the point of CosmicPlaything. His ability is the worst and weakest in the class, but he's the only one who can deal with the mightiest monsters. He gets blown off a bridge into a chasm and lands in the water-slide from hell... and on down the line.
* WaveMotionGun: [[{{Pun}} Did we mention]] Hyperion? ,[[DeathFromAbove see ABOVE!!]]
* WeakButSkilled: At the very start of the story, this trope fully applied. While the rest of his class either blew through their mana like water, or relied on large, powerful moves to deliver ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill, he used his very non-combat class in unique and intelligent ways, like paralyzing monsters with "transmute" before killing them. This impressed the knight training them beyond measure.
* WeWantOurJerkBack: The prevailing reaction, especially among the Haulia, post training, when he acts in what they think is a decent and merciful manner. When they find out CruelMercy is in effect, they actually sigh in relief.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: At the start, the only skill he had was "Transmute," and his starting stats were horrible compared to the rest of the class; the official training didn't help very much. As such, he honed that skill into a mighty weapon, despite Kouki's "advice." Ishtar and the nobles are clearly wrong to call him "incompetent."
* WouldHitAGirl: Out of all the things Hajime lost in the Orcus dungeon, chivalry was definitely one of them. He has no problems with hitting women should they sufficiently piss him off, try to attack him, or get in his way. Prime examples being Shea and Tio, who he regularly slaps around because they are damn annoying.

[[caption-width-right:350:Taken directly from the cover. It's about the only SFW image available in the early volumes.]]

Vampire Princess who was betrayed (read:deceived) by her family for fear of her power[[FridgeLogic (indeed)]], was [[MadwomanInTheAttic imprisoned away in the depths of the Orcus Dungeon]], her powers kept her alive for over 300 years, Hajime rescued her and promised to take her along. Is in love with Hajime and mostly the only one who's feelings are reciprocated. Not as strong as Hajime but can use all types of magic, she doesn't need to chant and can combine them.

----

* ACupAngst: Downplayed, but present. When Shea [[BerserkButton foolishly starts bragging about having a bigger set of breasts]], Yue turns to Hajime and point-blank asks him if he likes them bigger. [[GenreSavvy Hajime wisely dodges the question.]]
--->'''Hajime:'''"It's not their size that's important, it's who they're attached to."
* AllWomenAreLustful: ''She'' is the one who always takes the initiative in the bedroom with Hajime, and she doesn't take "no" for an answer.
* AndIMustScream: She had been sealed down her torso in the dark room for total 300 years [[spoiler: by her uncle who desperately protect her from the MadGod who intend to use her as the vessel for his manifest in tortus.]]
** [[spoiler:While possessed by Ehitorujue she was aware of what was going on, while he was slowly destroying her soul, every bit of resistance against such destruction meaning only crippling pain.]]
* TheArchmage
* BathtubBonding: To the point of ShowerOfLove. The first thing she does when Hajime actually finds a genuine bathtub is barge in on him, and take his virginity. She's insisted they bathe together, whenever possible, ever since.
* BattleCouple: With Hajime. As illustrated in the manga, their synergy in battle is a work of art.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' suggest she's lacking in her chest. The consequences are pretty grim.
* BlackMagicianGirl: She actually knows protective spells, and later restorative spells, but she's always focused on launching extremely destructive offensive spells, especially if she doesn't need to protect anyone, since she can rely on her regeneration to keep her going and just focus on dealing damage faster.
* TheBet: She promises to speak on Shea's behalf, allowing her to join the party, if Shea can manage to ''land a scratch'' on Yue by the time their 10 days of training is over. Shea manages to pull it off when a near miss hits Yue's cheek with a tiny fragment of rock.
* CommonalityConnection: Hajime turns to free Yue when he hears her say "I was betrayed," and falls in love with her because they were both betrayed and abandoned in The Abyss of Orcus dungeon by their respective people.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The way she's styled in the manga feeding on Hajime the second time is wildly suggestive. It doesn't help that she's completely naked except for Hajime's borrowed coat, sitting on him Cowgirl style, and moaning in an almost orgasmic manner.
* {{Expy}}: She bears a strong resemblances to [[Anime/MahouSenseiNegima Evangeline A.K. Macdovel]],You see,They're both blonde-haired immortal vampires, elite sorceress, have an adult version of themselves and They leave the bitemark on neck of their respective protagonists ''no less than once'',Their personality didn't match,Though.
* FakeMemories: [[spoiler: Courtesy of Denreed and his associates just before he entombed her.]]And her true one triggered in the last great dungeon,[[spoiler:leave her vulnerable to the resident BodySnatcher to [[GrandTheftMe takeover her body ]]not long afterwards. ]]
* TheFashionista: She finds that she has great talent as a tailor and fashioned not only her own clothes, but Hajime's and eventually Shea's.
* FirstGirlWins: Played with. While Kaori is the first to actually confess to Hajime, Yue is the one who took his virginity, and after his AccidentalProposal entry, she considers herself his wife. Thus any and all suitors ''have to get her approval'' before they can even think about merely flirting with him.
* FromASingleCell: As long as she has mana in her body, her "Auto-Regeneration" ability will completely restore her unless her entire body is destroyed all at once.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler: By eht,at the DarkestHour.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's golden-blonde and is one of the kindest women in the entire story.
* HappilyMarried: As far as she's concerned, she's Hajime's legal wife, and is quite happy with playing that role.
* KarmicJackpot: Her people betrayed, sealed and, abandoned her in Orcus dungeon as a "monster." They're now extinct. Hajime frees her, and gains not only a powerful ally, but a lover far, far better than anything he could have ever imagined.
* {{Kuudere}}: She rarely shows any emotion, except when it comes to Hajime, of course.
* LastOfHerKind: Her fellow vampire were long gone.
* {{Lecherous Licking}}: In the abyss of Orcus Great Dungeon, she licks her lips as she tries to seduce Hajime several times.
* LoveableSexManiac: As adorable as she is, her libido is utterly insatiable. She is always looking to "push Hajime down" at any and every opportunity that presents itself. What irritates her most about Shea joining the party is that she's almost never alone with Hajime anymore.
* MadwomanInTheAttic: For her own safety, courtesy of Denreed, She isn't insane either,But she's that powerful,[[spoiler: And the resident BodySnatcher aim for her body.]]
* MagicalGirlWarrior: She's the best Magic user around, by miles.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: With Hajime. His human lifespan is, on average, about 70 years, and he's already 17. She's immortal and does not age. Unless something huge happens, she's condemned to eventually watch him grow old and die. [[spoiler: It is later revealed that his body modifications and the use of soul magic are able to extend his initial lifespan.]]
* MoralityPet: Combined with MoralityChain. Not only does she help Hajime reconnect with his kinder, gentler persona, but she serves to keep him a good and upright individual, even though she can't stop him from being a bit of a jerk.
* NakedFirstImpression: Hajime meets her basically nude while entombed in the Orcus dungeon,[[PleasePutSomeClothesOn Hajime's reaction to that is rather awkward. ]]
* NotGrowingUpSucks: She's afraid of what may happen with her relationship with Hajime since she will always look 12. [[spoiler: After beating Ehito she is able to freely change her outer appearance into older versions of herself.]]
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: About the only thing she holds in common with traditional vampires is that she sucks blood. Everything else is wildly different from her fellow vampires.
* PleaseIWillDoAnything: As she was pleading with Hajime to free her from the Orcus dungeon.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Her wardrobe of choice once she actually gets her hands on clothing. [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl When she actually wears clothes, that is.]]
* PhysicalGoddess: Her level fits here to begin with,[[spoiler: and with the help from Hajime, she takes her own body back from Ehito , '''along with his power''']]
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Being a vampire she's over 300 years old, but she has lived most of that trapped in a dark room alone. Even by the standards of her species she's already long lived, since most vampires live up to 200 years.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As a vampire, her eyes are red, and she's not someone you want to provoke, [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold even if that is a very hard thing to do.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: When it comes to Hajime, she doesn't leave anything concerning her body or sex-appeal to the imagination. Despite his protests, Hajime is actually very, very grateful.
* SleepCute: Even though it is so suggestive as to be NSFW, the first time she's illustrated sleeping beside Hajime in the Light Novel is {{Moe}} personified.
* TheirFirstTime: Combined with GladToBeAliveSex. [[spoiler: She barges in on Hajime in the bath and successfully seduced him, completely overcoming every bit of his reservation.]]
* TopWife: [[spoiler:Even after Hajime is eventually persuaded to MarryThemAll, there's no question that Yue is far and away first in his heart.]]
* VampireMonarch: Averted for two reasons, she never desired power, only to keep her kingdom safe and because her family was too afraid of her not keeping that idea and decided to imprison her,[[spoiler:They fooled her ''''Hard''''.]]
* YouNoTakeCandle: In the original light novel, she spoke in broken words and phrases. The manga removes this aspect of her character. Even in the original source, she overcomes it quickly, once she's fully recovered from her imprisonment.

[[folder: Shea Haulia]]
[[quoteright:347:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shia01.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:347:[[{{Gainaxing}} Boing, boing!]]]]

A Cursed Child of the Rabbit people, she has the ability to see the future. Originally hidden away for her white hair and precognitive ability, for petty reasons she used her power and exposed her existence to the other demi-humans. This resulted in her and her whole tribe being banished from the Sea of Trees, making them essentially marked for death bluntil a "chance" encounter with Hajime and Yue. decided to be their companion in her own whims, she barely manages to join the two of them on their journey.

She is physically gifted naturally, but training grossly enhances her strength and magic, which can in turn be into physical reinforcements. She uses a sledge hammer in battle to deal massive damage.

[[spoiler: she is the second girl Hajime gets romantically involved with, with Yue's consent.]]

----

* AchievementsInIgnorance: She's the one who finds Reisen dungeon, and purely by accident.
* AllTheOtherReindeer: Her whole race were the outcasts of the demi-human peoples. Then Hajime came along...
* AxeCrazy: She hates battle and seeks peaceful resolution whenever possible. That said, if you're a fool who antagonizes her enough, or ''makes her fight'', you will soon regret it, as Grid Half learned to his horror. [[spoiler: She merrily piled up a mountain of imperial troop corpses as if she was collecting kindling for winter, and as for Grid himself, when he was on the brink of death, she ''literally'' punched him to the moon, but even she doesn't know if he made it all the way... Then when more imperial troops showed up, happily went right back to the slaughter, piling up even more corpses.]]
* BareYourMidriff: To Hajime's annoyance, even after Yue gets her proper clothing, she still shows off her belly and abdomen. In her case, it's justified in that "proper" clothing both doesn't fit well, and seriously interferes with her FragileSpeedster (in her case LightningBruiser )style of fighting, which is a Haulia racial trait.
* BlessedWithSuck: Her "Precognition" ability is truly powerful and useful, but it consumes most, if not all, her mana in a single use, triggers on its own when she's in mortal peril (even once being shown activating in her sleep, to Hajime's annoyance since he presumed it was an EroticDream), and even when she does consciously use it, she has no control over what vision(s) she receives, and those visions can change on her without notice. [[spoiler: She prophesied that she and Hajime would be HappilyMarried, for starters, but Hajime was blasted into the Abyss and met Yue first.]]
* BringMeMyBrownPants: After being comically skewered by arrows in Reisen dungeon, she wets herself, however, she found Reisen dungeon when she was [[UnusualEuphemism "looking for flowers"]] at the time.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Quite literally. Not only does she actually have bunny ears, (which Pre-orcus Hajime would have loved to play with) but as annoying as Yue and Hajime find her personality (again a personality pre-orcus Hajime would have greatly enjoyed), she is a good addition to the party, if for no other reason than her stats are roughly 60% of post-orcus Hajime, and that's easily '''four times the power of Kouki''', TheAce of Aiko-sensei's class, who maxed out at 1500 in all stats.
* ButtMonkey: Life seems to love making Shea suffer. She is introduced being chased by a huge demonic beast that resembles a two headed Tyrannosaurus, spots Hajime atop his motorcycle, and promptly runs towards him in tears and tries to jump onto him for safety, pleading pathetically for help. He, being Hajime, refuses and drives the motorcycle away from Shea, causing her to land face first onto the hard solid ground, twitching in pain. It only gets worse from there. [[spoiler: it becomes far less after she and Hajime get together.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: It seems to be a racial trait of the Hualia as the rest of her clan has the similar thought process that she does, and she's quite odd.
* TheConscience: She serves the role of making sure her loved ones don't stray too far from the path of righteousness.
* {{Determinator}}: She never gives up , on anything,be it a fight, be that hajime, and hard work paid her dearly.
* DramaticIrony: Thanks to a prophetic vision, she set out from the Haulia tribe to search for Hajime, and has been searching ''for months'', only to encounter him after he's been hardened by the experiences in Orcus dungeon, which make him find her annoying, on a good day.
* DropTheHammer: She uses a sledge hammer crafted by Hajime. Her Body Strengthening magic lets her make great use to great effect. She later receives a stronger one equipped with a wide assortment of gimmicks, an example being a built in stake, from Hajime. He dubbed it "Doryukken".
* FastballSpecial: When Hajime was finally conscripted into rescuing her people, the first thing he does with her is throw her at the monsters threatening them.
* HappinessInSlavery: Subverted. While the world at large thinks she's Hajime's slave, and Hajime certainly encourages this misconception with the way he publicly treats her, she follows him, not only of her own volition, but actually pestered Yue and Hajime until they let her tag-along.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Has blue eyes and is childishly innocent.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: In volume 8, she's set upon by imperial soldiers, who have a history of treating any beast-man, especially of the rabbit clans, as a DisposableSexWorker, and that's the ''kind ones'' while she's wearing an elegant ball-gown. Doesn't stop her from piling them up as corpses like she was collecting kindling for winter.
* LittleBitBeastly: Bunny ears and cotton tail.
* MamaBear: As nasty as Hajime is when Myuu is threatened, she's ''even more brutal.'' Hajime will use what he believes is the ''minimum'' force to make people never able to hurt her again. Shea... will squash them like grapes, '''slowly''', if she's feeling generous.
* NobodyPoops: Averted! She finds Reisen Dungeon as she was looking for a place to use as a toilet.
* {{Precognition}}: She can see the future.
* TheRival: Her relationship with Yue starts out this way, before ultimately becoming more sisterly.
* SaveTheVillain: She stops her people from utterly annihilating the bear clan, despite the fact that her people were more than justified, as the bear-clan, under Regin, was trying to utterly genocide them. She doesn't do this because she has any mercy in mind for the bear-clan. She does it so her people don't cross the MoralEventHorizon and basically become the Beast-man equivalent of the same Imperial soldiers who happily bragged about raping, murdering, and enslaving every beast-man they came across.
* ShippingGoggles: In-universe. To herself and Hajime. She is very, very quick to interpret even the tiniest act of kindness on his part as a show of romantic affection. This irritates the hell out of Yue and Hajime. [[spoiler: eventually however, this does bear fruit.]]
* SlaveCollar: Subverted. Hajime does indeed slap a collar on her, that she hates, ''to make it look like she's his slave'' so as to minimize the problems of having a beast-man in his party while in human controlled towns. However, he later reveals, when he's confident they're alone and not being overheard, that Shea's collar actually has numerous magical enhancements that serve to protect her from imminent harm, and allow her to contact him ''by thought'' when she's in genuine distress, and allows him to track her position at all times. She considers herself his PropertyOfLove from that point on, to Yue's chagrin.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Just look! ,Oh ,Which she justify herself in manga that her gorgeous figure is difficult to fit any clothes she found there.
* TookALevelInBadass: In just 10 days of training under Yue, she is, by Yue's estimation, near 60% of Post-Orcus Hajime's power. [[ReadingsAreOffTheScale That's a terrifying thought...]]
* {{Womanchild}}: She's very immature.

[[caption-width-right:350:An awakened pervert]]

Member of the secretive Ryuujin Race, was on a mission to gather information about Hajime and his class but fell asleep and was mind controlled by an evil magician, during the battle with Hajime she learned about her S&M predisposition, turned into a masochist and calls Hajime her Master. Her human form's strong, compared to even the heroes, her dragon form surpasses them at least a couple times.

----

* BullyingADragon: The problem when she actually likes it.
* BrokenPedestal: For Yue. Yue had long heard that Dragons were the epitome of wisdom, dignity, and elegance. Tio once was, and then Yue unwittingly flipped her "M" switch. Now she's just a pervert, to Yue's disgust.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: When she's not indulging her masochism, Tio is frighteningly intelligent, knowledgeable, and deadly. It's just that she's almost always indulging her masochism...
* ButtMonkey: After joining Hajime's party she turns into the main target of his punishments, not that she minds, since she will outright demand to get some if she feels left behind.
* CasualKink: She's a masochist.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The party tends to forget that she's the longest lived member of the party, and before meeting Hajime and turning into a pervert she was the ''really'' respected princess of the dragon race. While it's unusual, when she drops her antics and behaves seriously all advice that comes from her is completely sound.
* CupidsArrow: Not an arrow but a huge stake fired from Hajime's ''Pile Bunker'' weapon [[AssShove into a very delicate place]] while she was dragonized. This incident awoke her masochistic traits and from that point on she followed Hajime as his "slave" affectionately.
* EverybodyHasStandards: PlayedForLaughs. She’s a masochistic pervert that enjoys being insulted, but bringing down her species’ prestige (or in this case: Yue’s opinion of her that extended to her species) just hurts too much.
* FrickinLaserBeams: Her main Breathe attack in her dragon form is a black laser beam she fires from her mouth. She can use it in her normal form too.
* GagBoobs: The Light Novel never stops emphasizing just how big her chest is. If Shea is a melon, then Tio is a watermelon.
* LoveAtFirstPunch: From what she said,Hajime is the first person ever to deliver such heavy defeat on her(not to mention [[AssShove what]] he did to do it, while none of her [[BestHerToBedHer candidates]] can even land a scratch.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Obvious from the character's description.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Well over 500 years old, she was around to know Yue's real name.
* SenseLossSadness: Compared to the rest of her kin, her defenses were so strong, she couldn't even feel anything, good or bad, no matter what they did. Then along came Hajime and made her feel pain again...
* TechnicolorFire: She can breathe black fire in her dragon form and fire it from her hands in her normal form.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Beside Hajime, she mostly resides in her human form, but she can serve as a mount for high-speed air travel or as a reliable tank in her dragon form. [[spoiler: In one of the last fights against Freid, she exposes her ultimate trump card: [[OneWingedAngel " ''Dragon God Manifestation'' "]]. She exceeds her usual western dragon form and bears the appearance of an eastern dragon, being over 100 meters long.]]

One of Hajime's classmates and school idols, the pure hearted girl brought plenty of problems back on earth where she made a lot of people despise him for being close to her. Was in love with Hajime even back on earth but never told him, heartbroken from watching him fall into the Abyss pushed herself and decided to follow him when they met again. She's a user of healing magic, later in the series she acquired an Angel body that let her fight using disintegration magic.

----

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Since the scene where the class is served by very attractive maids is removed in the manga, her [[{{Yandere}} jealousy, slasher smile, and killing intent]] are not seen (for now anyway), making her seem like the perfect girlfriend to Hajime.
* BadDreams: In what turns out to be truly prophetic, she witnesses Hajime "disappear" in Orcus dungeon the night before they actually go. It proves a SelfFulfillingProphecy because her going to his room to warn him is what actually puts him in danger thanks to the petty jealousy and cruelty from one of his classmates.
* {{Bishoujo}}: Alongside to Shizuku, she was one of the two Goddesses of the school.
* BrokenPedestal: She doesn't take Hajime's new personality too kindly and she's quite shocked of his callous attitude, especially towards his old classmates.
* ClingyJealousGirl: From the first chapter after being summoned to Tortus, she sought to monopolize Hajime's attention. Even as the class is being served their meal by attractive maids, he wisely kept his gaze focus directly ahead as he could sense her killing intent.
* DeathIsCheap: she get her soul inhabit in the body of angel that hajime had [[TorsoWithAView slain ]]recently before her death.
** And now she had god-level magic of soul and regeneration, which means DeathIsCheap [[UpToEleven '''For everyone!''' ]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: She promises to use her healing magic to protect Hajime in the Orcus dungeon. Needless to say, through no fault of her own, she fails, badly.
* {{Determinator}}: Even if Hajime says he's devoted ''only'' to Yue, she won't quit. [[spoiler:It bears fruit in the WN after story]]
* [[FirstGirlWins First Girl Ties]]: [[spoiler: Eventually, Hajime accepts the rest of his UnwantedHarem, including her.]]
* GenerationXerox: She is very similar to her mother when she was younger. They both fell for a NiceGuy and both manifest a [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure stand]] when they’re in {{Yandere}} mode [[note]] (a Hannya for Kaori and a Shiro Yasha/White Demon for her mother, but also originally owned the Hannya)[[/note]]. But like her father, Kaori is generally nice even to her rivals in love, while her mother treats her rivals as cockroach and an even more yandere, though still a nice person.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: By [[spoiler: Hiyama.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: She genuinely did mean well back on Earth when she paid way, way too much attention and affection on Hajime. She just couldn't comprehend that her efforts only served to make his situation worse, thanks to the resentment of the "cool kids."
* InsecureLoveInterest: After meeting with Hajime again, she starts feeling inferior to Yue, both in combat progress and in the race for Hajime's heart, makes sense, since Yue is the BlackMagicianGirl to her WhiteMagicianGirl role, and at that point, Hajime already belonged to Yue. This insecurity gets dragged to the point Hajime warns her to snap out of it or leave the team.
* TheLoad: She's actually an amazing healer that kept Kouki's team alive for a long time, and she could be perfectly considered the most valuable person in that team. Alas, she's a WhiteMagicianGirl in a team of monsters who can destroy anything on their path with zero effort, so her chances to be useful are limited to helping people ''outside'' of the team. This makes her insecure to no end, especially compared to BlackMagicianGirl Yue, who's second only to Hajime in power. [[spoiler:She powers up after stealing Nointo's body and becomes strong enough to be able to fight with Abyss' monsters while covering Ryuutaro and Suzu.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: Combined with SamaritanRelationshipStarter. She saw Hajime kneeled toward a bullying delinquent to save another kid. She reasoned it's normal the strong people could solve problems by force but weak people who stand up against adversary, like pre-Tortus!Hajime, are more admirable.
* LoveConfession: As early as chapter 3 of the manga, shortly after they find themselves in Tortus, she spells out her feelings for him. Although he himself feels completely unworthy of her at that point, he does accept her admiration. Sadly, the events of Orcus dungeon cut their relationship tragically short, for a while. [[spoiler: Later, when Hajime saved her in Volume 4 she confesses her feelings for him and decides to follow him.]]
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Inverted. In the side-stories, and when the POV of the light novels switches over to her, she somehow senses that Hajime's been "snatched away" by another girl, ie Yue (and Shea). [[ClingyJealousGirl She is clearly not thrilled with the revelation.]]
* TheRival: To Yue for Hajime's affection, or at least she thinks she is, later on she admits she's more ''Shea's'' rival for the position of second lover.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: Kaori and her best friend Shizuku.
* SchoolIdol: Described as one of two idols in their school.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: She just could not comprehend that all her efforts at making Hajime "her charity case" were getting him nothing but resentment from the rest of the class, even when Kouki and Sakagami flat out said, right next to her, their plans for beating the snot out of Hajime ''precisely because Kaori was being "too kind" to him!''
* ThisIsUnforgivable: She can find herself neither forgiving nor forgetting the fact that somebody blasted Hajime with a fireball while he was trying to run from the Behemoth. While Kouki has deluded himself into thinking it's an unfortunate accident, and the fault lies entirely with the Behemoth smashing the bridge Hajime was on, she knows better, and the only reason the perpetrator doesn't wake up to find himself face down in a pool of blood is because she doesn't know who did it.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Her friendship with Yue.
* WhiteMage: She's a cheat on this school of magic.
* WhiteMagicianGirl: She's really into this role but then tries to pull away [[spoiler: because she feels like she's not contributing to the group where all are powerhouses]].
* WrongGenreSavvy: She expects a number of romantic tropes to happen, only to get shot down over and over by Hajime himself. When she finds out about Hajime's relationship with Yue she quickly considers herself Yue's main rival and confesses her love to Hajime to enact a LoveTriangle, only to be immediately rejected without a hint of doubt, then she tries to turn their relationship into a BalancedHarem where no one can get too close to Hajime, demanding Yue to stop kissing Hajime without permission, once again being rebuffed by Hajime, since he is Yue's lover and he doesn't need anyone's permission to kiss her or flirt with her. Finally she decides to simply be close to him, expecting the current relationship to end at some point and her being there to catch Hajime, he then points out that in the unlikely case that happened, it doesn't mean she would become his lover.

!The "Hero" Party
Hajime's former classmates so-called due to the de-facto leader's, Amanogawa Kouki, having the status of '''Hero''' whose purpose is to save mankind from the threat of the Demons.

[[folder: General]]
* DramaticIrony: After Hajime's "death" a contingent of students led by Kouki attempts to conquer the Orcus Labyrinth, reaching the 90th floor after four months of slowly making their way through the Magic Beasts within. (a) The first 100 floors are more or less a training ground for the '''true''' Labyrinth below & (b) Hajime in that time had already claimed the second Labyrinth along with the Orcus one, emptying them of anything valuable or useful. Needless to say, it can both funny and a little sad to watch them struggle through battles and celebrate their victories [[spoiler: while Hajime's party level half a city and take out 60,000 monsters by themselves.]]
* {{Foil}}: To Hajime's Party - The "Hero" party made-up of Hajime's former classmates are made of over twenty people and has the backing of the Church of Ehit; their goal being to save humanity and the world from the threat of the Demons. Hajime and his girls are all that make-up their group (around 5 or so) and are only out for themselves, usually helping others for their own reasons, benefit, or simply a side-effect of their real goals.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Back in Japan, they all ganged up on Hajime for being an otaku and "worthless" despite drawing the attention of the SchoolIdol. It only got worst when they were brought to Tortus and everyone, but Hajime, got impressive skills, magics, and stats. After Orcus, Hajime is stronger than all of them combined and only grows stonger as he conquers more Labyrinths; the true karma is that they're now so beneath him in terms of power, Hajime's former class isn't even worth the effort to ''think'' about revenge against them.
* {{Unwitting Pawn}}s: The class believes that they were chosen by the gods in order to save humanity from the threat of the demons and will be returned home if successful. In reality, the pantheon of Tortus' gods use all life as a pieces on a game board and couldn't care less about sending them home.

[[caption-width-right:265:Fight on, Ai-chan!]]
The social studies teacher who was handling the class at the time everyone was summoned to another world.

* AffectionateNickname: The class is fond of calling her "Ai-chan" to her chagrin, due to her childish body.
* AllLovingHero: Played with. She very much cares about the people of Tortus as a whole, but mess with her students and she will retaliate. [[spoiler: As Ishtar found out.]]
* BigGood: Her official role in the final battle.
* TheComicallySerious: In-universe. The harder she tries to do her job as a school teacher, the more "childish" she comes across to the students.
* FantasticNuke: From a ''methane explosion.''
* AGodAmI: She becomes the "Goddess of fertility" thanks to Hajime's propaganda after the battle of Ui. Of course she got no say on it, and her title got used again in the final battle.
* HeadDesk: Her thoughts where it concerns hajime. Regarding [[KissOfLife how he saved her]].
* HoneyTrap: '''INVERTED!''' The Holy Church of Eht keeps sending "hotties" (very attractive male knights) to seduce her to join their ranks, so they can monopolize her "Farmer" class. She winds up mesmerizing the Knights instead, [[ObliviousToLove though she's totally clueless about it.]]
* ImprobableAge: She's a twenty-five year old teaching a class of high-schoolers.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: One wouldn't think '''farming''' would be a dangerous weapon... until the Church of Ehit started aiding the "angel" that kidnapped her, tortured her, put her in a cage, and straight-up tried to murder her. [[spoiler: Boom goes Pope Ishtar and his flunkies in a FantasticNuke methane explosion.]]
* MoralDissonance: Which even she lampshades. She's caught between not wanting her students to fight as soldiers in an alien war, so they can more easily adapt back to life in Japan, should they ever find a way to return, but she can't bring herself to just turn her back to the suffering and peril faced by the denizens of Tortus, where she and her students find themselves.
* MoralityChain: By the time volume 6 rolls around, she becomes one of the very few people Hajime still listens to, as she honestly does her best to help him, and all the other students for that matter, retain enough of their personalities that they can adapt back to a peaceful life should they all ever make it back to Japan.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: While she did mean well in trying to stop Hiyama's bullying and taunts regarding Hajime's initial very lack-luster class and stats, she actually goes and makes him feel worse because even though her stats are worse than his, her profession and talents are both numerous and highly valuable, while he's SoOkayItsAverage.
* {{Oblivious to Love}}: Aiko seems unaware of the feelings of the templar knights for her.
* OlderThanSheLooks: She looks like a middle-schooler but she's 25 years old.
* SenseiChan: Due to her short height and youthful appearance, she's considered the class pet, rather than an authority figure most of the time.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: of 18 volumes she appears a bit at the beginning, then volume 6, 10 and then the final battle, but she's still the person responsible of managing to turn Hajime from a very selfish anti-hero into someone willing to help others to avoid living "a lonely life", her heartfelt words immediately saved thousands and her own life, and in the long run both worlds.
* TeacherStudentRomance: She developed feelings for her former student, Nagumo Hajime, after he saved her life from poisoning by feeding her a potion via mouth-to-mouth. While she refers to the students as "children" in her mind, only Hajime is called “he.”

[[folder: Yaegashi Shizuku]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizuku_1.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:The team's mom.]]
Shirasaki's best friend. She's both the only girl, and the only one marginally nice to Hajime.

* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She has an air of "quiet dignity" that gives others the impression of being the ideal Samurai. The fact that she's a kendo champion only serves to accentuate this appeal.
* {{Blackmail}}: A comedic version. This is how Shizuku got Hajime to accept and look after Kaori. She threatens him with giving Hajime over-the-top and embarrassing nicknames and spreading them among the general population.
* {{Bishoujo}}: Alongside to Kaori, she was one of the two Goddesses of the school.
* CoolBigSis: Hajime considers her as this towards her other childhood friends, her main role was restraining Kouki when he got out of hand.
* CutenessProximity: Really loves cute things.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Switch to a black katana made by Hajime later on. Justified in that she is familiar and her style is based on one, so using other type of swords make it difficult, not to mention the katana as she got it was only marginally worse than the PurposelyOverpowered holy sword. When he upgrades it again, that katana is the best sword in the world bar none.
* LadyOfWar: Graceful, elegant, wields a blade with great speed and skills in battle.
* LoveEpiphany: She gets more than one during her adventures in the great dungeons, it takes her a while to finally admit loving Hajime.
* RescueRomance: Later on, she fell for Hajime after he came to her help time and time again.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: Shizuku with her best friend Kaori.
* RunningGag: [[spoiler: Kaori and Yue periodically muse about Shizuku possibly being the "final boss" in the battle for Hajime's affections, due to her ability to overpower Hajime verbally (see {{Blackmail}} above). This only increases after Shizuku confesses her feelings and joins their group.]]
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She's the only girl in the "cool kids" group.
* TeamMom: For the front line training in the Orcus Dungeon. Often more like team Kindergarten Teacher. She is quite sure the stress is giving her wrinkles and making her go bald.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: While she's less girly than Kaori at a first glance, she actually loves cute things and she's quite feminine and sensible, so in a harem where most members aggressively strive to get into Hajime's bed, Kaori included, she can ''faint'' from a mere kiss.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Hajime initially describes her as cold, rigid and aloof on one side, sweet and sensitive on the other.
* TokenGoodTeammate: She's not only Shirasaki's genuine friend, but the only one that treats Hajime near kindly.

[[folder: Amanogawa Kouki]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kouki02.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:He only thinks he's the epitome of justice.]]
The "perfect man" of the class.

* TheAce: On Earth, at least. He was known for being the best in academics and athletics. In the world of Tortus, this went straight to his head.
** [[spoiler:After joining Hajime's team it doesn't take long for him to turn into a BrokenAce.]]
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the light novel, he's illustrated with some kind of light-shaded hair, as shown in the page image. In the manga, he has the typical Japanese black hair.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Decides to return to Tortus to redeem himself for his actions during the story, then he gets summoned to ''another world'' as the hero.]]
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: To Kouki, there's only right (his view) and wrong (others). Anybody who doesn't follow his view is wrong.
* BookDumb: Inverted. He's great in a purely academic setting. In a practical environment, where he actually has to think, he's completely helpless if left to his own devices. He also tends to make things worse when faced with an unfamiliar situation unless someone's nearby that can do the thinking for him.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Eri mind controls him at the climax to keep her as her lover and use him against his friends.]]
** MoreThanMindControl: [[spoiler: Even after Shizuku broke the main control he kept fighting, since a part of him truly believed that Hajime had brainwashed all around him and couldn't accept not being the center of all attention.]]
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:The only ones who still respect him after the story ends are Shizuku, Ryuutaro and Suzu.]]
* {{Chick Magnet}}: In the Earth (and also on Tortus) many girls have confessed to him, and on Tortus he has a fan club formed by several girls infatuated with him.
* TheChosenOne: Ehitorujue intended to summon only him due to his hero class to counter Freid's influence on the status quo, the other classmates were summoned simply because the call spell couldn't be precise enough. [[spoiler:Also intended to snatch his body after he powered up long enough.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: Shizuku and Kaori, having known him since childhood, are well aware that he has absolutely no clue how his "cliche lines" and winning smile affect women. In fact, they often address him as "the typical dense harem lead."
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: ''Constantly.'' When even an musclehead like Ryuutaro can bite his tongue...
* CondescendingCompassion: How he normally addresses Hajime, and Shirasaki, always sarcastically calling her "kind" because she actually treats Hajime like a human being.
* {{Determinator}}: By the end of his LastStand against the shadow beings he wasn't even conscious, but he still slashed at anything that came near him.
** earlier when he is still immersed in his delusion see HeroicRROD below.
* DumbassHasAPoint: He yells at Hajime that all of [[spoiler: Eri]]'s victims might have been saved if the class had been warned, to which Hajime retorts that not only would Kouki disbelieve the warning, but would be enraged at Hajime accusing or insulting a classmate, and even Kouki has to grudgingly admit Hajime's right.
* EntertaininglyWrong: To the point of RunningGag, albeit it's seriously not funny. Since he's always twisting the situation and what he observes to fit his own preconceived world view, he very often makes careless statements that, while correct on paper, are wholly inappropriate or just plain wrong, and remains blissfully clueless as to why people don't appreciate his "sage wisdom."
* EntitledToHaveYou: Demonstrated in a way that [[EveryoneHasStandards makes even the rest of the class cringe]] in Volume 4: he outright tells Kaori that since she's his childhood friend, she should stay by his side forever, and clearly feels the same about Shizuku. It's not clear, even to him, whether this is out of romantic feelings towards them or a more self-centered "I'm the star and you're my supporting cast" attitude, but neither Kaori nor Shizuku is impressed by it.
* FakeUltimateHero: He sincerely believes that just by being the hero he's entitled to save the world no matter what and everyone summoned with him is supposed to follow his lead. His defeat against Gahard was only the start of a severe chain of defeat after defeat and when he joined Hajime's party, far from being one of the strongest members in the party, he was quickly identified as TheLoad.
* FatalFlaw: His own "sense of justice" is noted by many characters, particularly Shizuku, as being his greatest flaw.
* {{Foil}}: To Hajime, both are heroes in the story, but while Hajime behaves like an AntiHero unconcerned about using lethal means and only cares about those he considers important to him, Kouki behaves like a KnightInShiningArmor who considers chivalry as important and will always pick to save the many, even if he needs to sacrifice the few.
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: In a UsefulNotes/VictimBlaming kind of way. In the light novel, Hajime specifically mentions that Kouki simply can not comprehend the concept of ForTheEvulz. As such, if he sees someone being bullied, he immediately believes that the victim must have clearly done something to provoke it. When he sees Hajime physically dragged off the training grounds by Himaya and his three flunkies so the four of them can use Hajime as a punching bag, Kouki honestly believes it's Hajime's fault "for not taking the training seriously" and falling behind, despite the fact, that from the beginning, the training program was clearly not working for Hajime, period, regardless of how much effort Hajime put into it.
* GreenEyedMonster: He is jealous of Hajime's ability and how it has improved (and his harem). As the story continues his envy increases, and (after knowing that Kaori and Shizuku fell in love with Hajime), he deludes himself into thinking that Hajime is a manipulator that uses brainwashing to achieve his goals.
* HateSink: In the web novel version, and even very quickly in the manga, his UsefulNotes/VictimBlaming, SelectiveObliviousness, and fervent insistence that he's always right and righteous have seriously drawn the ire of the fanbase. It is at the point that comments wish he'd get a "wake-up call" in the "got eaten by a monster and laughed at by Hajime for it while he's begging Hajime for help" kind of way.
* HereWeGoAgain: [[spoiler:A year after the end of the main story he gets summoned to yet another world to be a hero again.]]
* HotBlooded: He's seldom seen considering the long-term consequences of his actions, makes snap judgments, and frequently gets in over his head because he acts first, thinks second, later, maybe.
* IdiotHero: While he may be TheAce where it concerns academics, he's got his head so wrapped up in his "ideals," (read: up his own ass) that he comes across as a complete bumbling oaf, and in what little bit of truth Emperor Gerard could tell him, the Mercenary Emperor actually said as much. Of course, [[SelectiveObliviousness It flew over Kouki's head.]]
* ImNotAHeroIm: He openly refuses to be called "hero" during his personal arc, he's shown to be visibly uncomfortable when called that.
* HeroicRROD: or rather villainous ,he continue to abuse his remaining (life)power after shisuku cut him from eht's power sources
* KnightTemplar: He honestly can not, for the life of him, comprehend how his mindset can ever be incorrect, about anything.
* LargeHam: Once in Tortus, and he learns what his special class is, he acts in loud and wildly exaggerated ways.
* ObliviouslyEvil: The phrase "the path to hell is paved with good intentions" clearly applies to this guy. Not in the [[WellIntentionedExtremist "I knew what I was doing was wrong, but expected it to turn out okay because I meant well"]] kind of way, but in the "I don't know how my words and actions could possibly be wrong because I have no ill intent" kind of way. As such, while he isn't actively kicking puppies, he does constantly trip over them, especially where Hajime is concerned, then simply goes on his merry way, completely oblivious to the damage he's done, and his friends, and Ishtar, have to constantly apologize for him [[TautologicalTemplar because as "The Hero." he obviously can do no wrong.]]
* ObliviousToLove: As narration puts it, he treats Eri like yet another GirlOfTheWeek.
* SelectiveObliviousness: As lampshaded in the narration by Kaori and Suzuku, he's very, very talented at completely missing or ignoring anything and everything that doesn't align with or outright defies his preconceived world-view, and only hears what agrees with him.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: He gets hit quite a bit by this, his point of view of what is a hero includes sparing any and all humanoid enemies, including the genocidal and AlwaysChaoticEvil devil folk, and he cannot quite understand why is it preferable to threaten the imperial family to abolish slavery, instead of fighting some guards to free ''one'' slave.
* SkilledButNaive: He's the top when it comes to combat related skills, and he's not too shabby when in command of a party, but he honestly believes that humans are incapable of intentional ill intent, even when he sees it with his own eyes. As such, he's quick to forgive genuinely evil people at the slightest show of repentance, no matter how faked, and comes down on the victims with extreme prejudice for the crime of ''being victims.''
* StockLightNovelHero: A dark deconstruction. The "hero" job he gets on coming to Tortus goes straight to his head and makes him go full-tilt TautologicalTemplar, thinking that his way, and only his way, is the epitome of righteousness, no matter how reckless, stupid, or suicidal his actions. It often takes violence to make him see how wrong he is, or keep him from endangering himself and others, and even then, he doesn't always get it.
* StupidGood: At his best. It can honestly be said that he's almost completely free of malicious intent (his resentment towards Hajime aside).
* TautologicalTemplar: Since his class is "hero," he believes he's always noble and just regardless of his actions or the situation.
* TakingYouWithMe: A comedic example at the end of his personal arc: [[spoiler:when he was summoned to the fourth world, he didn't hesitate in using limit break just to grab Hajime to get dragged together.]]
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: A firm believer of this, when forced to pick in a SadisticChoice between saving his love interest, or saving much more people in the final battle against the shadow beings, he chose the many [[spoiler:he got lucky Hajime and the others appeared to lend him a hand.]]
* ThouShaltNotKill: He is very frightened of the mere idea of slaying an intelligent opponent, it takes him being part of a GuiltFreeExterminationWar against the shadow beings for him to finally being able to use lethal force.
* TooDumbToLive: His actions in volume 4 should have gotten his entire class slain several times over. It's only the fact that the Demon was ordered to capture them alive (to enslave), if possible, and the fact that they were rescued which kept this from happening, and he still goes and tries to provoke their rescuer into a fight while the class is still inside a dungeon, too exhausted to fend for themselves...
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Over and over, he never quite understands how immense the power gap between Hajime and him is, and every time he gets just a little stronger, he quickly assumes he's about to reach Hajime.
* UngratefulBastard: Despite how many times Hajime saves him, he antagonizes Hajime to no end.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Eventually he admits to hate Hajime, to the latter admitting thinking the same, in universe this moment is treated as as heartwarming moment, since both stepped up from dismissing each other.
* WhatTheHellHero: He ''never'' approves of Hajime's actions and he's quite vocal about those that include mercilessly killing foes. [[spoiler:Or helping the Haulia butcher the imperial family to threaten Gahard into abolishing slavery.]] Of course he also disapproves of those times Hajime ''doesn't'' take action, even if it is because there is no need to move, or he has a better plan ready to get the best results available.
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: One of his few PetTheDog moments. He was incensed when the Nobles started mocking Hajime's death in Orcus dungeon, and wrongly giving Kouki the full credit for getting his class out alive, when everyone on the scene knows that the lion's share of the credit for that should go to Hajime. Needless to say, that while the ''open scorn'' gets squashed as a result, the nobles only take this as a further "proof" that Hajime's "only an incompetent who brings trouble to others" and Kouki is a "soft-hearted man who cares even for the incompetent," [[EntertaininglyWrong which isn't entirely incorrect.]] This line of thinking gives Hajime a great deal of grief for the rest of the story.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Sakagami Ryoutarou]]
Of the top trio of the "cool kids," he doesn't bother to hide his distaste for Hajime, and does his best to drive Hajime out of Shirasaki's life.

* DumbMuscle: Hajime describes him in the light novel as "even his brain seems made out of muscles."
* HiddenDepths: While he's every bit as DumbMuscle as both narration and characters mention, he's also one of the most sensible classmates, able to support Kouki without a doubt, carrying a flame for Yue, while understanding it will never work.
* HumanPopsicle: almost gets turned into one due to trying to reach an easy way out inside a great dungeon.
* LoveAtFirstSight: With Yue, he understands how hopeless that is and is content with just watching from the sidelines.
* PairTheSpares: He and [[spoiler:Suzu become a couple after the story, and decide to go back to Tortus together.]]
* RatedMForManly: One of his fights in the last of the great dungeons consist on him exchanging punches with a ''frost golem''.
* UndyingLoyalty: He sincerily believes in Kouki and never gives up on him, even if that means fighting against him.
* VoluntaryShapeshifter: He cannot use metamorphosis magic on magical beast,so he uses it on himself.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Hiyama Daisuke]]
One of the "cool kids." While not in the top three who harass Hajime, he is the most dangerous, due to his own sense of entitlement to Shirasaki and his own stupidity. He is also the one Hajime rightly hates the most.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Inverted. A side effect of the manga's AdaptationDistillation removes a great many of his KickTheDog moments, making him look foolish and misguided as opposed to the outright evil he actually is. This makes his attempt to kill Hajime come out of nowhere and seem a little far for a simple bully.
* BetaTestBaddie: He's introduced, by Hajime's description, as spending every day looking for new and interesting ways to harass Hajime, as if it's his assigned homework, which is SeriousBusiness in Japan. In Tortus, he's overcome with murderous fury because he sees that Hajime and Kaori can hook up just fine, but he will never be good enough for her and he knows it.
* DirtyCoward: He's perfectly fine attacking weaker people, like pre-Orcus Hajime, four on one, and attacking monsters when there's a large party covering for him, but when he's at a tactical disadvantage, he either sucks up, kowtows or runs away.
* GreenEyedMonster: He knows he's clearly ''not'' worthy of Kaori's affections, but chancing upon her going into Hajime's room late into the night, wearing only a flimsy negligee, and selfishly thinking Hajime's even ''less worthy'', due to his own selfish MightMakesRight philosophy, drives him into a murderous rage which is what ultimately inspires him to back-stab Hajime in the Orcus dungeon.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:After he stabs Kaori to death,[[KickTheSonOfABitch Hajime kicks him and wounds him severely]], then he gets [[EatenAlive Devoured by monsters]], with special mention to his arm, mirroring Hajime's experience with the bear. ]]
* NeverMyFault: After he blasts Hajime down into the abyss, and everyone else miraculously gets out of the dungeon alive, he goes into a dark corner, curls up into a fetal position and, while pretending to be distraught about Hajime's supposed death, starts giggling, happily blaming Hajime, and calling it "divine retribution" that Hajime was blasted back into the Behemoth by his own fireball.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: His betrayal of Hajime in the Orcus dungeon, dumping the poor boy into the Abyss, allowed Hajime to rescue Yue and take numerous levels in badass that would have never happened otherwise.
* PoisonousFriend: Kouki sees him as a friend. He's just sucking up to Kouki for his own protection. [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil Kouki just can't bring himself to see it.]]
* SchmuckBait: Falls victim to some in chapter 3 of the manga. Despite being told, repeatedly, by the rest of the class, and the knight that was training them, not to go after the shiny gem in the ceiling, he continues to do so, calling everyone else "cowards." This triggers a trap that teleports everyone into a chamber where they come face to face with a Behemoth, and the only exit is blocked by an endless wave of skeletons, composed of prior adventurers that fell in the 58th floor, a place far, far above their current level. It was only Hajime's genuine courage that gave anyone the ''chance'' to escape.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Unknowingly subject Hajime into TrainingFromHell where he found Yue , He thrown a biggest spanner to god's chestboard. He just live not long enough to see his success.
* TooDumbToLive: In chapter 3 of the manga, he threatens a complete collapse of the dungeon the entire class is in by going after a gem, embedded in the ceiling, that's obviously too big to carry just because Shirasaki said it's beautiful.
* UngratefulBastard: His response to Hajime saving his life at terrible risk and effort? Have the fireball that's supposed to be cover-fire for Hajime's own escape actually turn and hit him InTheBack, so he falls down into the Abyss, to be LeftForDead.
** He did it again during [[spoiler:Eri's betrayal, this time disregarding Hajime's mercy to his previous betrayal. This time he paid the price.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: While he intetionally tried to kill Hajime, he probably never thought that his "death" would bring too much despair on a student that they're driven to villainy (e.g Shimizu). Though he never found out about this.
* VillainsWantMercy: Combined with AintTooProudToBeg and EasilyForgiven. Once everyone had calmed down, long after fleeing the dungeon, due to Hiyama springing the trap that nearly got everybody killed and regained their composure, they rightly turned on him for putting them in that predicament in the first place. His response was to run to Kouki, kneel on the ground and shed CrocodileTears, thus earning Kouki's forgiveness and getting the criticism to stop. He even winds up on Kouki's party close to his LustObject, Kaori.
* {{Yandere}}: Especially after Hajime's "murder" in the first volume for his obsession with Kaori.

* TheResenter: They resent Shirasaki being friendly with Hajime and bully him relentlessly behind her back as a result.
* SmugSnake: They are in no way as smart, clever, or popular as they think they are, but they love to rub their supposed superiority in Hajime's face at every opportunity.

* HeroicResolve: Even after learning that Tortus isn't a fantasy game, and is actually a very, very dangerous place, she still overcomes her HeroicBSOD and chooses to go with Aiko-sensei into danger to help others.
* IOweYouMyLife: Towards Hajime. She wouldn't be alive if he didn't intercept the Skeleton Knights' sword swing at her.
* KnifeNut
* PassingTheTorch: On the receiving end. She inherits the kindness, idealism, and childish wonder Hajime was forced to throw away to survive the Orcus dungeon.
* ShipTease: To Hajime, to the point that their classmates and ''even her own parents' worry that she might end up as a mistress if "she's not active enough".
* TookALevelInIdealism: Hajime's HeroicSacrifice leads her to become a better person, despite her own fears and insecurities.

[[folder: Nakamura Eri]]
A bespectacled beauty, giving off the air of the stereotypical librarian.

* AbusiveParents: Her mother blamed her for her father's death. To the point she [[DrivenToSuicide wants to die]]
* [[spoiler:AxCrazy: She's completely deranged, feels nothing of killing people (and her body count is quite impressive) and the moment she stops caring about appearances, even her speech becomes slurred.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She's not anywhere near as nice as she pretends to be, but she's got the entire class fooled.
%%* BadPowersGoodPeople: A shy girl with necromancer power? Yup.
%%** [[spoiler: BadPowersBadPeople: Until it turns out it's this]]
* {{Blackmail}}: [[spoiler: She blackmails Himaya into being her slave by promising to keep quiet regarding the fact that she knows he's directly responsible for intentionally blasting Hajime into the Abyss with a fireball.]]
* BlackmailIsSuchAnUglyWord: [[spoiler: While actively blackmailing Himaya, she specifically lampshades the trope. Acting incredulous that he would even imply the thought of her blackmailing him.]]
* {{Bookworm}}: She not only loves books, she was on the library committee before being brought to the world of Tortus.
* ComplexityAddiction: Her plans for Kouki have to be among the most convoluted method to achieve her goals. [[spoiler: She could have simply taken advantage of his LeeroyJenkins tendencies and let him die as a result of his own devices to then "resurrect" him as her puppet, but instead, she blackmails Hiyama, contracts with the Demons, sabotages the defenses of the human city, and uses a ZombieApocalypse to critically injure all her classmates so she could try turning them to her puppets one at a time while forcing the rest to watch.]] Not only does this ultimately fail, but she completely enrages and alienates Hajime who is only stopped from giving her a FateWorseThanDeath by Freed's armed invasion.
* DrivenToSuicide: Twice proper, first time from AbusiveParents, second time from LoveHurts, where she finally succeeds.
* HimeCut: She is described as having a natural "bob cut" hairstyle.
* InterruptedSuicide: By Kouki.
* LoveHurts: [[CluelessChickMagnet Kouki]]'s neglectful [[ObliviousToLove behavior]] is what drives her off the deep end.
* TheNecromancer: As she officially has the Necromancer class.
* {{Meganekko}}: She wears glasses.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: [[spoiler: She promises Hiyama to give him Kaori as a "girlfriend" if he serves her as a slave, exposure as a murderer if not.]]
* PowerIncontinence: Can barely control her Necromancer power. [[spoiler: This is a complete lie, she's quite talented with Necromantic magic and wipes out the Heiligh government by herself.]]
* ShrinkingViolet: She is very meek and shy, in public. [[spoiler: In private, she's utterly psychotic.]]

A chibi with inexhaustible energy and spunk.

* BarrierWarrior: She has the "Barrier Master" class which allows her to summon barrier magic even able to hold off a Behemoth, though she got this only after months of very hard training, long after Hajime "fell" in the dungeon.
* BiTheWay: while she crushes on Yue and looks rather interested in a number of female characters [[spoiler:in the end she and Ryuutaro become a couple.]]
* GenkiGirl: She's got so much energy, she's constantly bouncing off walls.
* GirlishPigtails: To highlight her extremely childish personality, she wears her hair like this.
* {{Mascot}}: In-universe. She's officially the class mascot.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Every time she's sad it's a clear sign of how dire things are.
* PairTheSpares: She and [[spoiler:Ryuutaro become a couple after the story, and decide to go back to Tortus together.]]
* PersonalityPowers: BarrierWarrior but it also reflects her [[spoiler: "[[StepfordSmiler mask]]"]]
* StepfordSmiler: Her way to cope with loneliness, she also fears of being rejected, which the SecretTestOfCharacter pokes here.
* SchoolgirlLesbians: Has a small crush for a while on Yue, and her relationship with Eri has quite the HoYay context.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Yukitoshi Shimizu]]
Introduced in Volume 2, but named in Volume 3, he showcases what could go wrong if an {{Otaku}} who fantasizes about being whisked away to another world actually is.

* BadPowersBadPeople: He specializes in Dark Magic, strong in causing all sorts of debuffs, including brainwashing, and uses it to amass a monster army [[spoiler: to annihilate the city of Ur, soldier and civilian alike, to kill his teacher, Aiko and the rest of his class]] purely to be a "hero" in his own eyes.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He spent his whole life wanting to be whisked away to another world so he could become the "hero" and get a harem devoted to him... He gets the first part, and finds he doesn't like it.
* DarkIsEvil: He's gifted with "dark magic" when he comes to Tortus, and he's a completely depraved person.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: He shows that being a fan of "other world" harem animes to the point of immersion is not the best strategy to prepare for such an event actually happening. In fact, if you can't hack it in the real world, where life is ''relatively easy'', you're not likely to do well if you suddenly find yourself in a setting like those common to "other world" anime, harem or otherwise, because you're not going to be strong enough, physically, mentally, or morally to deal with a life and death situation.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Taking Aiko hostage was a sound plan to avoid arrest and execution for treason... or would have been if not for saying the Demons tasked him with assassinating her first.
* GeneralFailure: Unlike Hajime, who attended and studied Meld's tactics and strategies sessions, and learned from them, he only focused on the aspects of his "Dark Magic" that served him, particularly the brainwashing. As such, when he found himself in charge of the large army of monsters he spent weeks building up, his "plans" were a complete disaster, not even preparing an exit strategy or an orderly retreat. By the time he realizes he's in over his head and tries to run, it's already too late for him.
* HaremSeeker: And a complete failure at it. He does not have even one character or personality trait that would be attractive to the opposite sex, but refuses to believe it. The only reason he hasn't tried to make a brainwashed harem of sex-slaves is that it's too difficult, too unstable, and too time consuming to use on actual people.
* HeroicWannabe: He will do anything and everything to be a "hero," no matter who he has to side with or kill.
* IneffectualLoner: Seeing Hajime get bullied made him withdraw into himself in class and avoid others. Upon coming to Tortus, he continues to sulk and sneak off alone...
* LonersAreFreaks: Even his parents and family were rightly concerned that he devoted so much of his life to his "other world" fantasies that he had basically no social contact.
* NeverMyFault: To InsaneTrollLogic levels. Despite the fact that he withdrew from the class, and rebuffed anyone who tried to approach him, he insists his loneliness is their fault for ignoring him.
* RantInducingSlight: Seeing Hajime's "chuuni" new look pissed him off, but then seeing Yue try to comfort him turned him red, then green, then white with rage.
* SayingTooMuch: Even Hajime was sympathetic to his plight [[spoiler: after the Demons fired through him to try to get at Aiko]] until he promises to provide Hajime with a harem of brainwashed sex-slaves. [[spoiler: This makes Hajime realize he's too far gone into his delusions to be rescued and gives him a MercyKill.]]
* ShadowArchetype: To Hajime. He's far, far more chuuni than Hajime will ever be, and when he finds reality doesn't match his imaginations, he retreats even further into his fantasies.
* StockLightNovelHero: Oh, he would very much like to be one, but he's so fixated on the benefits that he completely ignores the perils, and completely falls apart, retreating even further into his fantasies, the moment even the tiniest little thing goes wrong.
* SuperLoser: He does actually put in the effort to learn and master every aspect of his gifted "Dark Magic" ability, and through carefully applied brainwashing, manages to amass an army of tens if not hundreds of thousands of monsters, but his ego is so fragile that he completely falls apart if even the tiniest thing doesn't go his way.
* UnskilledButStrong: Deconstructed. He hones his "Dark Magic" ability into a force to be reckoned with, even managing to subdue Tio when he catches her napping. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a clue as to what he's doing so his battle debut becomes a complete disaster.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: He hates "chuuni bastards" with a passion, but he's the most "chuuni" character in the whole setting, and is completely oblivious to it.
* ZergRush: Deconstructed. He never bothers to learn the strengths and weaknesses of any of the species of monsters he manages to subdue. He just sends them at his target all at once. When this encounters the battle-hardened Hajime's party, it utterly fails him.

!Church of Ehit
The religion of Mankind who worship the god Ehitorujue and responsible for introducing Hajime's class to the Tortus, not to mention some of the more wide-scale issues.
[[folder: Ishtar Langbard]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ishtar01.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Behold the pope of Eht!]]
The Pope of Eht (Ehit), and the one who explains the reason why Hajime's class was summoned to Tortus.

* MoralDissonance: He's confused and somewhat insulted that Hajime's class panicked at the thought of being forcefully summoned to Tortus and upon learning that they can't go back, as if it's somehow an insult to Eht-sama itself. When Kouki's RousingSpeech gets the class on board with being in a ChildSoldier army, he's smugly satisfied.
* MrExposition: He spends the vast majority of his screen-time explaining the world of Tortus to the audience and Hajime's class.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: He's totally obedient to Ehit, no matter what the latter does.
* ObviouslyEvil: Just look at him!
* SummonEverymanHero: The reason for his summoning ritual.
* WrongGenreSavvy: He's expecting everyone summoned from Hajime's class to be a NormalFishInATinyPond and save Tortus from the demon threat. They're all normal humans without special powers and have to undergo serious training to get, learn, and effectively use abilities and talents. Most of them don't even use their heads in a fight and just go for the biggest and flashiest moves and spells they can on any opponent, regardless of the situation.

[[folder: Simon L.G. Levellair]]
An exiled bishop of Ehit introduced in the epilogue of volume 7, along with his granddaughter.

* KingIncognito: He walks in the capital city of Heleigh hiding his identity as a bishop of Ehit to learn what's really going on, instead of taking the propaganda at face value.
* ObfuscatingInsanity: He escaped execution for "heresy" by pretending to be a little nuts. Even in the present, he still acts a bit odd to get people to lower their guard.
* {{Manchild}}: He's introduced sucking his thumb for no reason.
* ReassignedToAntarctica: Before the story began, he was exiled to a remote backwater village in the desert for the "heresy" of saying beastmen amd demihumans should not be abused, and then only because he recanted, or he would have been executed. He's brought back to the capital by princess Lilliana's official summon.
* SecretKeeper: He's been holding on to a "legend" passed down along his family...
* SpotTheThread: He realized the cover-story for what happened to the royal church of Ehit isn't exactly accurate.

!Kingdom of Heleigh

[[folder: Knight Commander Meld Loggins]]
The knight in charge of training Hajime's class to be the "heroes" who save the world of Tortus.

* DidNotSeeThatComing: In a good way. He figured Hajime's Synergist class was useless in a fight, until he saw Hajime use "Transmute" to hold a monster captive before finishing it off. This impresses him beyond measure.
* HeroicBuild: He fits the stereotypical image of a Knight.
* HoldTheLine: Subverted. In the manga, he is illustrated trying to hold the Behemoth at bay so the students can escape, but Kouki trying to come to his aid, and Hajime actually restraining Behemoth with "Transmute" allows everyone else to escape.
* IgnoredExpert: He was tasked by both Ishtar and the king to mentor and train the students in Aiko's class to be effective soldiers in the war with the demons, but his experience and wisdom is ignored in favor of political expediency in the matter of the "accidental" fireball that caused Hajime to be driven down to the depths of the Abyss. He knew that if left unattended, it would only get worse, not better, over time. If it was actually an accident, without proper counseling, the guilt would build until those that felt responsible cracked under the pressure and turned on humanity, feeling themselves completely beyond redemption [[spoiler: which actually happens as early as Volume 2 when most of the too-traumatized students listen to a demon promising to make them "heroes" if they killed their own teacher, Aiko-sensei]]. If it was deliberate, as it clearly was, then the one responsible needs to be found, and quickly, to be brought to justice and to prevent further sabotage. Because Kouki kicked up a fuss, Meld was forced to stop the investigation, and leave the students to their own devices.
* KnightInShiningArmor: He embodies everything an ideal knight strives for.
* MentorArchetype: He's tasked with teaching the students how to fight, and win, battles with the Magical beasts that compose the majority of the demonic threat.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Though it is his job to make Hajime's class effective child soldiers, he doesn't want them to die. Thus he does his best to balance the difficulty of their tasks so they're challenging but not too life-threatening. Hiyama completely screws that plan over.

[[folder: King Eric S. B. Heiligh, Queen Luaria, Prince Randell]]
The royalty introduced in the opening of the light novel, greeting Hajime's class as the coming "heroes."

* AdaptedOut: They don't appear in the manga, at all.
* FlatCharacter: They get little to no characterization.

[[folder: Princess Liliana]]
Daughter of King Eric and Queen Luaria and big sister of Randell, she shows quite the insight for her age and is proactive about her kingdom's needs.

* AwfulWeddedLife: What she was expecting after marrying prince Baius. [[spoiler: Averted when the Haulia show up and behead said PrinceCharmless.]]
* ButtMonkey: The moment she gains focus in the story, things stop going her way, at all.
* DudeWhereIsMyRespect: She's quite hurt about Hajime's completely nonchalant attitude towards her rank.
* PrincessClassic: She thinks she's this and expects some advantages out of this, sadly, she lives in a world that cares little about her privileges.
* WhenSheSmiles: On those rare occasions where she smiles genuinely, as opposed to forced, formal "courtesy" smiles, she lights up the room. [[spoiler: As highlighted when dancing with Hajime in the Hoeschle imperial ball.]]
* {{Workaholic}}: A trait shown during after, she can get depressed if things aren't stressful enough, and when Hajime told her to get a ''part-time'' job she ended up getting more than half a dozen, including managing a chain of restaurants.
* YouAreInCommandNow: Since she's a princess in a HeirClubForMen, the throne will be for Randell, but her father's death forces her to take charge of what remains of the Heiligh kingdom.

!Hoeschle Empire

[[folder: Emperor Gahard Hoeschle]]
The ruler of the Hoeschle mercenary empire. He has serious doubts about Kouki's effectiveness as "Hero."

* CommanderContrarian: He ''really'' does not want to put the hopes of humanity on the "Hero" Kouki and if it wasn't for Ishtar's influence through the church, he wouldn't.
* DefensiveFeintTrap: After asking for a duel to test Kouki's talents and abilities, he takes up a "defenseless" stance to lure Kouki into attacking carelessly. Kouki falls for it, hook, line and sinker.
* EntitledToHaveYou: To Shizuku. He insists she's "his," no matter how much she rebuffs him, and has the gall to get jealous if she shows affection to anyone else.
* HaremSeeker: He already has a wife, several concubines, and he's still looking for others, especially Shizuku. She is clearly ''not'' pleased with the attention.
* KingIncognito: He disguises himself as the bodyguard of one of his country's ambassadors, and the disguise was very effective on everyone, except Pope Ishtar.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Subverted, while the Haulia coup went perfectly, he still tried to play it tough, just to cause his son's death, he still resisted, only to give in when the threats went up to bombing civilian centers.
** When it comes to Hajime he's much quicker to warn all his followers not to challenge him, unless they wish a quick death.
* MightMakesRight: The prevailing opinion of the Empire, which he runs.
* TheUnapologetic: While he ''does'' technically apologize, the apologies are so insincere as to be nothing more than lip-service.
* VirtueIsWeakness: What he hates more than anything else about Kouki is his "idealism."

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Prince Baius Hoeschle]]
The first born of Emperor Gahard Hoeschle.

* AltarDiplomacy: To secure the Empire's alliance to Lilliana's kingdom, he and Lilliana are to be married...
* ArrangedMarriage: To Princess Lilliana. She is clearly not pleased with the arrangement.
* AssholeVictim: Even his father doesn't mourn him.
* AttemptedRape: Of princess Lilliana. [[spoiler: Fortunately Hajime had ways to stop him, unnoticed.]]
* TheBully: As he lampshades himself. What he loves most is to torment and break those who defy him.
* HaremSeeker: He already has several concubines, but he seeks to make Lilliana his wife, purely so he could [[MaritalRapeLicense legally rape her.]]
* KilledMidSentence: He never got a chance to finish insulting the Haulia and identifying himself before his empty head went flying.
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: Exactly like Hiyama and his flunkies, he beats up knights under the pretense of "sparring" or "training."
* OffWithHisHead: How he dies.
* PrinceCharmless: He's a total boor, at his best.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: As the crown prince, he constantly abuses his position to outright ignore imperial decree, especially rulings against violence.
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: He defaults to violence in everything.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Imperial Soldiers, and "Boss"]]
A company of soldiers encountered by Hajime and the remnants of the Haulia tribe after emerging from Reisen Gorge.

* AggressiveNegotiations: Thinking they had an overwhelming tactical and strategic advantage over Hajime, they began making all sorts of demands and threats... Seeing Hajime unfazed only served to make their "offers" more and more despicable and depraved, rather than make them realize that maybe, just maybe, there's something seriously, dangerously wrong about the situation they're in.
* AssholeVictim: No tears were shed when they met their bloody end.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: They see Hajime, unscathed, ''walking out'' of Reisen Gorge, a place so dangerous it's commonly used as an execution ground, and which they are too scared to enter, yet they go out of their way to provoke him. There are thousands of reasons why this is suicidal in tactical and strategic terms.
* AHeroToHisHometown: They were given a hero's funeral in Hoeschle empire, despite their actions being anything but heroic.
* MuggingTheMonster: Sure, they're an army company, and Hajime's burdened with the then defenseless Haulia tribe, and Yue looks like a child, but before provoking Hajime, they should have considered that maybe there's a damn good reason he emerged from Raisen Gorge, unscathed.
* NoNameGiven: None of them is ever named.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: The moment they saw Hajime emerge from Raisen Gorge, the Haulia in tow, they immediately proclaimed their intent to rape all the female Haulia, and while "negotiating" with Hajime, their commander openly proclaimed his desire to rape Yue as well, while forcing Hajime to watch "as a free lesson to a brat who doesn't know how the world works." To the last man, they did not live long enough to regret their actions.
* SuicidalOverconfidence: They see Hajime walk out of Raisen Gorge, and immediately presume they've already won the fight with Hajime. They never paused to consider why he's emerging unscathed and is completely unfazed by their threats.
* TooDumbToLive: Really, provoking a guy who confidently walks ''out'' of an execution ground, unscathed?
* VillainsWantMercy: After the utter elimination of the rest of the company, the last man, who had dropped his weapon in a panic, begged, pleaded, and offered his complete surrender to Hajime if he'd be spared. Hajime only spared him long enough to get critical information regarding the rest of the tribe, who are all either killed or long gone into imperial slavery by that point, before killing him too.
* WouldHurtAChild: They see Yue cling to Hajime's arm, and immediately threaten to rape her, after cutting off Hajime's arms and legs so he's ForcedToWatch.
* WrongAssumption: They see Hajime with the Haulia and presume he's a simple slave-trader that they can bully around. They completely neglect the fact that they've seen him come out of Reisen Gorge, unharmed.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Grid Half]]
The imperial soldier who lead the slaver soldiers who captured, raped, and killed many Haulia before Shea could find Hajime.

* MoralMyopia: He leads a group of "soldiers" who are little more than mindless raping, murdering thugs, responsible for genocide upon the Haulia, but upon seeing Shea, alive, in Hoeshcle castle, as Hajime's escort, while his soldiers listed under Imperial Solders and "Boss" are dead, drives him to a near apoplectic rage.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: He's very loyal to the Hoeschle empire, and Garhard himself, regardless of their many, many sins.
* StupidEvil: He gathered together an army to lead a genocide against the Haulia, just so he could capture and enslave Shea [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil for his own exclusive use.]]
* SuicidalOverconfidence: He sees Shea, alone, throw his men around like ragdolls, and he ''still'' believes she's nothing more than "a weak rabbitman" who his troops can beat with ease.
* ThisCannotBe: When he sees Shea, ''a rabbit man'', punch one of his subordinates, fully equipped in platemail, across a courtyard with a single blow of her fist, he can not believe his eyes.
* VillainsWantMercy: When Shea's wiped out the rest of his men, leaving him barely alive, he begs for her to spare his life, making all sorts of promises, including leading Shea to her missing family. She complies by ''literally'' sending him [[ATwinkleInTheSky flying to the moon, without a rocket.]]

[[/folder]]

!Beastmen/Demi-humans

[[folder: Cam]]

Shea's father and leader of the Haulia clan, what's left of it.

* ActualPacifist: Prior to meeting Hajime, he, and his whole tribe, were so pacifistic that they would jump out of the way of ''flowers and bugs''. Needless to say Hajime didn't respond well to that, at all.
* CategoryTraitor: He and his people are seen as "criminals" and "traitors" because they defied the demi-human's rather foolish "everyone with inherent Mana Manipulation ability is a monster and must be executed" law and chose to raise Shea in hiding instead.
* {{CloudCuckoolander}}: He makes Shea look normal by comparison, and that's not easy.
* EvilGloating: Hajime's training is just a bit ''too'' effective at training the Haulia to become killing machines, and he starts to sadistically gloat over Rejin of the Bear clan, after utterly annhiliating Rejin's squad, before preparing to sadistically slaughter what remains of the bear clan, in direct retaliation for untold ''years'' of abuse at their hands. Shea and Hajime both put a stop to it, not because of any mercy towards the Bear clan, but because neither Hajime nor Shea wanted the Haulia to become as depraved as imperial slavers. The fact that Hajime had a bit of CruelMercy to deliver unto Rejin is also a factor.
* KillerRabbit: By the time Hajime finishes training them, the Haulia clan is a force to be reckoned with, and he is no exception, and the Haulia are all rabbit-people.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Because he and his clan had the unmitigated gall to ''raise Shea kindly'' instead of letting her be executed as a baby, due to the fact that she was born with the inherent "mana manipulation" skill, his entire clan was labeled as criminals, chased out of the Sea of Trees and hunted down by imperial slavers "because they gave sanctuary to a 'monster' like ''her.''"
* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters: Which he lampshades telepathically to Hajime in Volume 8. However, when Emperor Hoechle complains aloud, Cam reminds him of his country's and his own treatment of Beastmen, [[PayEvilUntoEvil and how the Hoeschle Empire is being judged by its own standards of war.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Jin]]

[[spoiler: Former]] leader of the Bear-clan. He does not take the arrival of Hajime and the Haulia tribe well. In fact, he is one of those who utterly brutalize the Haulia while Hajime is trying to negotiate a visit to the Great Tree. [[MuggingTheMonster Big Mistake.]]

* BearsAreBadNews: Subverted. While he is a bear, and is quite hostile, by the time he appears in the story, Hajime is way, way past him. He realizes this far, far too late.
* GameBreakingInjury: Hajime retaliates to Jin trying to rip his head off with claws, by breaking Jin's arm and rupturing several internal organs and bones. While Jin survives the experience, he loses the ability to ever raise his paws in combat again as a direct result. ''This is Hajime being "nice."''
* AHeroToHisHomeTown: He is beloved by the people of the Bear clan as their strongest and "most noble" warrior. Due to the fact that he treats the Bear clan, and only them, kindly.
* MuggingTheMonster: He attacks Hajime, intending to brutalize "the human intruder." He gets so curbstomped, he can never fight again.
* SuicidalOverconfidence: Despite the fact that Hajime showed clear and irrefutable proof that he cleared the Orcus dungeon and is someone the people of the Sea of Trees don't want to antagonize, he thought he could "remove" Hajime easily. He would live to regret it.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Regin]]

Jin's successor. He stages an ambush at the "Great Tree" to avenge Jin's defeat. He would live to regret it. His men don't.

* AintTooProudToBeg: In volume 8, he goes and grovels before the Haulia tribe, seeking aid for Verbergen against the Demons. Cam and the Haulia find it an eyesore, but help fight off the Demons anyway.
* AvengingTheVillain: Though Jin is AHeroToHisHomeTown, he's a villain to just about everyone else. As such, Regin didn't take Jin being crippled by Hajime well and went after the Haulia tribe instead, for a bit of RevengeByProxy. That particular plan backfired, spectacularly.
* TheBully: The narration shows that he loved to throw his weight around in The Sea of Trees, prancing around like he owned the place. His utterly humiliating defeat at the hands [[KillerRabbit of the Haulia]], not to mention Hajime's CruelMercy that spared his life, all brought an end to that, permanently.
* MuggingTheMonster: He and his "merry band" attacked the Haulia, expecting them to be pushovers, due to their long, long pacifistic tradition. Little did he realize Hajime had been training them to defend themselves, and he just volunteered himself and his men to be part of a live-fire exercise, showcasing what they've learned.
* RevengeByProxy: Since he's well aware that he's no match for anyone who can take Jin down in a single blow, he decides to "make Hajime despair" by going after Hajime's Haulia "guides" believing them to be the same ultra-pacifistic pushovers that have been the demi-human's whipping boys for years if not generations. Boy, did he ever wind up regretting that.
* VillainsWantMercy: After he got utterly trashed by the Haulia, he surrendered and begged for his life. The Haulia were planning to slowly and sadistically kill him anyway until Shea and Hajime showed up, and made a living example of the bear clan instead.
* WrongGenreSavvy: He fully expected the Haulia to be so utterly pacifistic that they jumped out of the way of bugs and flowers when he set upon them, and that Hajime would never see the Bear Clan coming, until it was too late. He was dead wrong on both counts.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Tiger Captain of the Guard]]
The first demi-human encountered by Hajime upon entering the Sea of Trees.

* AbominationAccusationAttack: Upon spotting Hajime and the Haulia, he immediately accuses them of being an invader and traitors, respectively. He wisely backs down in a hurry when Hajime demonstrates just how strong he is.
* IntimidationDemonstration: On the receiving end. Before he can even finish saying the word "charge," Hajime shoots a bullet that grazes his cheek and obliterates the tree behind him and then aims at Zam, one of the men hiding in ambush, waiting for the order to attack. The tiger beastman wisely backs down.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: After seeing how ''easily'' Hajime could have wiped him and his entire patrol out, he backs down and negotiates in good faith with Hajime.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: He is very loyal to his home country of Verbegen, and even though he knows he doesn't stand a chance against Hajime, he is still willing to die, if need be, to keep his people safe. Hajime is impressed by this beyond measure.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Once he learns that all Hajime wants in the Sea of Trees is to visit the sacred tree, Uralt, and the reason why (to visit the "true labyrinth"), he happily would have let Hajime and the Haulia go there, and get out of his hair, but being a mere Captain didn't have that authority, so he asks to call for one of the Verbegen elders. Hajime agrees, and is greatly impressed that the Tiger beastman offered up such a rational solution.
* ThisCannotBe: He is openly shocked upon seeing the ring Hajime brought with him bearing Orcus' crest.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ulfric Heipyst]]
An elf, and the first elder to meet with Hajime in the Sea of Trees forest.

* MrExposition: He provides Hajime, and the audience, a great deal of information regarding the Great tree and the unique "fog" conditions to gain access, as well as a great deal of trivia regarding the rules and traditions of Verbegen.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: Unlike the haughty and proud elves of most fantasy stories, Ulfric is pleasant, kind, and highly reasonable, greeting Hajime warmly despite having every reason to consider him a threat and an enemy.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: The most reasonable by far in Verbegen. He honestly strived with all his might to avoid needlessly antagonizing Hajime or the Haulia who were under Hajime's protection, even once proposing spreading the word that the Haulia were Hajime's slaves so they'd be considered "dead" rather than "traitors" by the population of Verbegen and thus be left alone. He did this because of Shea's "death penalty" sentence as a direct result of her inherent Mana Manipulation ability and the Haulia covering for her.
* TakeMeInstead: He goes to the Demons and promises to guide them to the "True Labyrinth" if they spare the civilians of Verbegen. The Demons foolishly gloat their desire to raze the city anyway. [[OhCrap Then the Haulia show up...]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Zal]]

The leader of the Tiger Clan.

* ThatWasntARequest: He foolishly informs Hajime that the Hualia, including Shea, especially Shea, were all marked for execution irrevocably, for the "crime" of raising her kindly instead of turning her over upon birth because of her inherent co-genital, Magic Manipulation skill. This was done with the explicit intention of strong-arming Hajime to do things Verbegen's way. Needless to say, Hajime doesn't take that well.
* ThisMeansWar: On the receiving end. Hajime doesn't take Verbegen's threat on the Haulia, at that point under his protection, well as a result of Zal's foolish declaration. Fortunately, the rest of the council of elders were more... reasonable.

[[/folder]]

!Demons
The race with whom Humanity is at war. They recently upset the war's balance with the capacity to acquire unknown and very powerful monsters.

[[folder: Freid Baghur]]
The Demon encountered by Hajime in the volcanic dungeon.

* AlphaStrike: Pulls a great one on Hajime in the Grand gruen volcano, nearly killing him instantly with the help of his dragons.
* BarrierWarrior: One of his beasts, a turtle magical beast, has the ability to manifest a powerful protective barrier.
* TheBeastmaster: He controls and summons Magic Beasts.
* FantasticRacism: He is fully convinced that Demons are inherently superior to humans in all respects.
* GlassCannon: He is able to unleash powerful attacks that can even trump [[OneManArmy Hajime]], but he is completely incapable of taking a hit. In fact, he panics when Hajime and his allies start wearing away his turtle-monsters' summoned barriers, and he starts summoning more and more turtles to compensate.
* AGodAmI: He constantly refers to himself as Ehito's "disciple."
* HumansAreInsects: He sees humans as pests to be exterminated.
* LoadBearingBoss: Invoked. He deliberately destroys the volcano dungeon's protective artifact when it looks like Hajime actually has a chance to beat him.
* MilesGloriosus: He's constantly boasting of being the most powerful and talented being that is or ever was. In truth, he hides behind the abilities of his summoned magic beasts, and when it looks like someone can get through or around them, he puts all his efforts into fleeing and exterminating his opponent ''indirectly'' like blowing up the volcano they're fighting in.
* MonsterProgenitor: He gained metamorphosis god magic, necessary to create magic beasts from the glaciar's dungeon.
* SpannerInTheWorks: The reason the plot starts at all is due to him acquiring age of the gods magic from one of the dungeons, just with metamorphosis magic he was able to completely upset the world's balance and forced Ehitorujue to summon Kouki and his classmates.
* WorthyOpponent: Sees Hajime as one, which is decidedly ''not good'' for Hajime, as it makes the demon more desperate, despicable, and cowardly.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Cattleya]]
The demon tasked by Freid to clear the Orcus Labyrinth, she also intended to recruit Kouki's party

* DidNotThinkThisThrough: If only she had managed to stay calm for a few seconds, she could've understood Hajime's power by the fact he pierced the supposedly ''indestructible'' floor between levels instantly killing her best monster. She still lived to regret her rashness for a few minutes.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: She outright demanded for Hajime to hurry up and not to bother trying to capture her.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Her love towards Mikhail gave her the victory against Kouki's party, her last words were also directed to him.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: She did try to flee the battle against Hajime, only a bit too late.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Mikhail]]
Cattleya's lover.

* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler: While he regrets not being able to avenge his lover, he does die, satisfied that he put forth his best effort.]]
* MotiveRant: He goes on to proclaim Cattleya's [[InformedAttribute supposed virtues]] when fighting Shea, and finding himself on the losing end. Shea calls him out on it in that if the situation was reversed, he wouldn't want her ranting at him if he had harmed her loved ones and she came at him for revenge.
* RevengeByProxy: Since Freed was fighting Hajime at the time, he went after Hajime's companions, starting with Shea, just to spite Hajime. Turns out Shea was stronger than he is.
* RevengeMyopia: Which Shea calls him out on. He is hell-bent on avenging Cattleya. The fact that Cattleya tried to murder Hajime's class, and Hajime himself, refusing to back down when given the chance, is completely irrelevant.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Davros]]
The demon tasked with conquering Verbegen's "true labyrinth."

* FantasticRacism: Looks down on all non-Demon races, especially beastmen.
* GeneralFailure: He's nowhere near as good a commander as he sees himself. The only reason he had any initial success in his raid on Verbergen is that Freed equipped him with overpowered monsters. The moment he faces an actual challenge, he completely falls apart.
* GlorySeeker: He doesn't care a whit about anybody's well being. All he wants is his own name being glorified in the Demon race's history books.
* HairTriggerTemper: The moment even the slightest thing goes wrong, he completely flips his shit.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He "fights" using every dirty trick in the book. Yet when he runs into the Hialua and they use guerrilla warfare on him, he completely flies off the handle at their "dishonorable" fighting style. This goes double when he demands a one-on-one duel with Cam. When Cam hits him with his own [[AnArmAndALeg tactics]] he completely breaks down, calling the Hialua clan as a whole "cowards" for crippling him.
* OffWithHisHead: How he meets his end.

[[/folder]]

!Misc.
[[folder: The Seven Liberators]]
The people who designed the great Labyrinth dungeons. They are the protagonists of the Arifureta ZERO prequel novels.

%%* GoodIsNotNice
* HeroWithBadPublicity: They're acting to free the people of Tortus from the gods' Jerkass behavior, but said gods have a very effective [[VillainsWithGoodPublicity propaganda]] [[ChurchMilitant machine]] in place...
* PrequelInTheLostAge: The Arifureta ZERO novels.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: Much as they want Tortus free of the gods, their labyrinths are designed so that only the truly capable are capable of penetrating them to the end (and gaining the god-level magic ensconced within).

! Oscar Orcus:
The creator of the Orcus dungeon.

* AffectionateNickname: Miledi Reisen's ghost still calls him "O-kun" centuries later.
* AlliterativeName: '''O'''scar '''O'''rcus.
* TheAwfulTruth: His recording reveals the real reason for the fight. The gods are, without an exception, each and every one of them, a MadGod.
* DefectorFromDecadence: He's a direct descendant of the gods.
* {{Misblamed}}: The world, universally, hates him and his brethren as mortal enemies. If his recording can be believed, he was actually fighting against the gods to protect them.
* RageAgainstTheHeavens: Presumably. The legend is that he, and his six compatriots rebelled against the gods to try and destroy the world of Tortus. [[spoiler: His story is that he and his six brethren are actual descendants of the gods, and rebelled against the gods' complete lack of respect for life, using the world as their own personal chess board, only for their own amusement.]]
* TheSpook: Almost nothing is known about him, even after [[spoiler: Hajime encounters a recording of him, triggered by beating the dungeon.]]
* TakeUpMySword: The true intention of the dungeons. They were built to test the mettle of men so that hopefully someone would arrive who had the skill, the power, and the moral character to which they could bequeath their power. Unfortunately, Hajime arrived LateToTheTragedy.

! Miledi Reisen:
The creator of the Reisen dungeon.

* AllForNothing: Invoked. Even getting past all her traps is no guarantee that you've beaten the dungeon. To add injury to insult, and insult to injury, trying to map out the dungeon is useless as it randomly, and completely, morphs its basic design after a certain amount of time has passed, making any maps useless.
* AnimatedArmor: [[spoiler: Her spirit inhabits a giant golem.]]
* {{Antimagic}}: The dungeon, ''and the entire gorge the dungeon resides in'' seriously screws with the usage of magic. This makes Shea, who only uses body-strengthening magic, at most, ''the best choice'' to conquer the dungeon.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: She has a small core, and destroying it is the only way to beat her.
* CrazyPrepared: Her traps are designed to be sprung without fail, even if the hapless dungeon explorer manages to avoid tripping the switch, they go off anyway. Hell, in a "cliche" boulder-staircase trap, destroying the boulder causes ''a second boulder'' to come forth that also sprays acid as it rolls.
* FinalBoss: She's the boss monster of the Reisen dungeon.
* GhostReunionEnding: [[spoiler: The last thing she sees before dying is her old companions, the liberators.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Ensures Hajime and Yue can escape Ehitorujue's realm, at the cost of her life.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: She literally flushed, as in a toilet, Hajime and his party out of her dungeon after she gave them her Age of Gods Magic and important materials as a reward. Before they fully went down the drain, Hajime tossed a knife with a grenade at her. Realizing too late it was an explosive, it blew her up, severely damaging her Golem body, leaving her all alone, broken, and weeping. She deserved every bit of this.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: [[spoiler: Is this to Oscar Orcus in the Arifureta ZERO novels.]]
* MarionetteMaster: [[spoiler: She remote-controls an army of golems, reconstructs and repairs them when they get damaged.]]
* ThePrankster: The dungeon is full of traps, with signs just afterwards, that showed they were meant as pranks, ''deadly'' pranks, mind, but pranks nonetheless.
* PsychopathicManchild: Supposedly. All the dungeon's signage is written in an overly cutesy and energetic tone.. and linked to traps that would have been deadly if Yue and Hajime weren't already grossly overpowered thanks to their experiences in Orcus dungeon.
* {{Troll}}: The signage in the dungeon is clearly intended to irritate, annoy, and seriously piss off anyone who comes across it.

! Lyutilis Haltina:
The creator of the Haltina Labyrinth and the Sea of Trees forest where the demihumans and beastmen live.

* BenevolentPrecursors: The demi-humans and beast-men would have been either wiped out or enslaved long ago if she hadn't set up the Sea of Trees for them, and built Verbegen as their capital city, a wonder the beast-men are all quite proud of.
* {{Druid}}: It is strongly implied that she built the Sea of Trees as a refuge for the demi-humans and beast-men to live in harmony with Nature.
* OnlyTheKnowledgableMayPass: She built the entrance to the "true labyrinth" in such a way that only someone who had cleared at least four other dungeons could enter.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Magic Beasts]]
The primary antagonists of the story.

! Ratmen: The first monster encountered by Hajime's class in Orcus Dungeon.

* ZergRush: Their only tactic is to overwhelm their foes with sheer force of numbers.

! Rockmount: The first challenge the students face in Orcus dungeon.

* ManiacMonkeys: It's a gorilla with the ability to camouflage itself like a chameleon.
* RoarBeforeBeating: It roars a challenge and beats its chest before attacking. Just like an Earth gorilla.

! Behemoth:
The first major named antagonist.

* ChargedAttack: It can heat up its "Helmet" and launch itself at enemies, impacting like a meteor.
* FoeTossingCharge: It charges like a bull, throwing people aside like rag dolls.
* HeroKiller: It has the final responsibility for knocking Hajime into the Abyss by smashing the bridge they were standing on, but this wouldn't have happened if ''someone'' hadn't launched a fireball at Hajime first.
* ALoadOfBull: It's basically a giant, super-charged bull.
* WakeUpCallBoss: It showed the people of Hajime's class, who were having a way too easy time in Orcus dungeon, a taste of how dangerous Magic Beasts really are.

! Kicking Rabbit:
The very first creature encountered by Hajime in the Abyss, and among the most dangerous, despite its appearance. The first one got named Inaba much later.

* AlwaysABiggerFish: At first glance, it looks like the Kicking Rabbit is the undisputed "king of monsters" when Hajime sees it in action, [[OhCrap then the Talon Bear shows up...]]
* DanceBattler: Hajime compares the way it attacks to break-dancing at one point.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: While Inaba wasn't defeated by Hajime, his victory over the bear made him the level's king in its eyes, when they reunited much, much later, Inaba showed a very deep degree of respect of Hajime and requested being named.
* ExtremityExtremist: It fights exclusively with kicks.
* FlashStep: Its special ability allows it to move so fast it can spawn after-images.
* ItAmusedMe: It attacks and kills not for food nor self-defense, but for fun.
* JustToyingWithThem: It could have killed Hajime in the blink of an eye, when he tried to run away, but slammed him around and pinned him to the wall simply because its more fun that way, [[LaserGuidedKarma naturally this bites it in the ass, literally, as the Talon Bear is attracted by the noise of the scuffle.]]
* KillerRabbit: Literally. Even when the Lightning wolves pile on, six to one, they don't stand a chance.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Had it not attacked Hajime, and let him pass in peace, he would have backed up right into the cave where the Talon Bear was sleeping. The odds of Hajime surviving that would have been far, far less than what he ''did'' go through, and even that [[UnluckilyLucky was a minor miracle.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Its eyes are blood-red and it's insanely dangerous.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: The moment it sees the Talon Bear, it stops toying with Hajime and flees with all its might. Didn't help it one bit.
* TheWorfEffect: Built up as being very, very dangerous, but then the Talon Bear comes along and delivers it a OneHitKill without even connecting.
* TookALevelInBadass: The very rabbit that attacked Hajime survived long enough to drink some of the god water, powering up on the same manner than Hajime got by eating monster meat, then it decided to explore Orcus to become even more powerful, it was eventually discovered and recruited by Suzu, under the promise of making it more powerful.

! Lightning Wolves:
Contrary to their size and power, they are the ''weakest'' of the monsters Hajime encounters in the Abyss.

* SacrificialLion: They are showcased purely to display both how dangerous the Abyss is, and how far down the Slippery Slope Hajime has fallen when he sadistically butchers them.
* ShockAndAwe: When pressed, they can attack with lightning.
* TaintedVeins: As with all the monsters in the first level of the abyss, they have glowing red veins on their skin. Theirs are the most pronounced, however.

! The Talon Bear:
The Floor Boss of the first level in the Abyss. The only hope you have of surviving an encounter with it is running away with all your might, and those odds are still mighty slim, unless you've spent 40 days building railguns, grenades, and other nasty things.

* AnArmAndALeg: On both ends of this. It rips off Hajime's arm and eats it right in front of him. Hajime returns the favor, in its entirety.
* BearsAreBadNews: It's a bear, and it's not a good idea to let it see you.
* CavalryBetrayal: It shows up, kills and eats the Kicking Rabbit, then starts eating Hajime, one piece at a time. The last part allows Hajime to escape its grasp, literally by the skin of his teeth.
* DiskOneFinalBoss: While it is the boss monster of the first floor of the Abyss, the lower floors have even more dangerous creatures.
* ImpossiblyGracefulGiant: It's amazingly fast and agile for its size.
* LightningBruiser: It hits hard and fast, and even dodging its claws can still kill you.
* NothingPersonal: It doesn't attack with malice; it's just hungry, and you happen to be food.
* RazorWind: Its special ability is sending compressed air with such force that it slices through people and things.

! Oil Shark:
A shark-like creature that lives in the napalm-like level of the Abyss.

* InTheBack: How it prefers to attack prey, which Haijime exploits while fighting it.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: It is described as having lots and lots of teeth.
* OffWithHisHead: The way it tries to kill Hajime.
* ScaryTeeth: Its teeth are long and razor sharp.
* StealthExpert: In addition to hiding in the oily napalm of the Abyss "sludge" level, it also has the "Conceal Presence" skill that allows it to circumvent the "Detect Presence" skill.

! Basilisk:
It lives up to its name.

* DeadlyGaze: Its gaze can petrify living things.
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: It's a lizard creature.
* TakenForGranite: The fate of its victims.

! Cyclops:
The two door guardians over Yue's prison.

* AttackItsWeakPoint: Their skin is NighInvulnerable, except for their eye.
* {{Hammerspace}}: As Hajime notes, they pull four-meter-long swords out of "god knows where."
* ItCanThink: Unlike most of the monsters prior, these guys actually learn from the actions of their enemy and carefully decide their actions as opposed to operating only on instinct. Didn't help them as Haijime was an OutsideContextProblem for them.
* VillainsWantMercy: While the Right one attacks immediately and gets a BoomHeadshot in response, the left one tries to surrender and beg for mercy when Haijime's gun is pointed right at its eye. Haijime kills it without a second thought.

! The Steel Scorpion:
Yue's final guardian.

* BewareMyStingerTail: It has ''two'' stingers, one shoots acid, the other flechettes.
* FlechetteStorm: One of its tails shoots out tons of tiny darts.
* HollywoodAcid: It shoots an acidic poison from one of its tails that can eat through stone.
* LightningBruiser: Moves fast, hits hard.
* MadeOfDiamond: It took Yue's ultimate spell, Azure Sky just to weaken its armor so Hajime could shoot it. He tried everything else first, including napalm at the temperature of lava (3000 degrees celcius). Even then, Hajime had to shove an incendiary grenade inside the bullet wound and set it off inside the monster to kill it, and ''three'' shots into its open mouth to make sure.
* RasputinianDeath: Just look at the MadeOfDiamond entry.
* RoarBeforeBeating: It shrieks before every attack.
* StealthyColossus: It was completely undetectable until Haijime activated his "Detect Presence" skill and then it was literally right on top of him.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler:It's real purpose isn't to maintain Yue sealed, but to ensure whoever tries to get her out of there really cares about her.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: In-universe. Hajime realizes, after the battle's over, that the scorpion's armor ''is an ore'' and he could have used "Transmute" on it, making the battle far, far easier. Needless to say, he's not happy about this revelation, but he decides not to let Yue know it.

! The Alraune:
A plant based monster that controls the natives of the "jungle" level.

* PowersDoTheFighting: It relies entirely on its controlled puppets. If they're bypassed, it's helpless.
* PuppeteerParasite: It's actually quite harmless itself. What makes it dangerous is that it can take control of allies and make them attack.
* SquishyWizard: While its PuppeteerParasite is quite versatile and dangerous, the monster itself got felled with a single well-aimed shot.
* WhatTheHellHero: Hajime shooting Yue's flower shocked even the Alraune, to Hajime's frustration.

! The Hydra:
The supposedly final boss of Orcus Dungeon.

* AdaptationalWimp: While the hydra is still a fearsome monster in the manga, in the original light-novel, it is far, far more overpowered. [[spoiler: After the RasputinianDeath entry below, it reveals a seventh platinum head that unleashes light based attacks so corrosive, even the Ambrosia produced by Hajime's God's Crystal could only barely keep up, and Hajime had to drop the ceiling on it ''again'' just to distract it long enough to FeedItABomb, and put it in a blast furnace so Yue's Azure Sky spell would reduce most of it to its constituent atoms!]]
* AdaptiveAbility: Sort of. Each of its head serves a specific purpose, and it can quickly adapt to anything thrown at it. Therefore, it never falls for the same attack twice.
* BreathWeapon: It breathes fire.
* DegradedBoss: The hydra reappears when Hajime and Kaori return to Orcus to gear up for the final battle. Unlike the first time, where Hajime and Yue barely won and he lost an eye, this time it was a CurbStompBattle without any issue.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: It attacked Haijime when he was using his "Divine step" ability to run across the roof. Of course, that triggered a cave-in.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Its careless use of its breath weapon caused a cave in, which stunned it long enough for Yue to use Azure Sky on it and kill it.
* MadeOfDiamond: Even more so than the Steel Scorpion.
* MultipleHeadCase: It has numerous heads on one body, and each head has a specific function.
* RasputinianDeath: Shot by Hajime's regular gun, at full rail-gun power, several times. Shot by Hajime's anti-materiel rifle, at full rail-gun power. Shot by Yue, using Hajime's gun. Blasted with several powerful spells by Yue. Had the cavern ceiling collapse on it. Finally finished off by Yue's Azure Sky ultimate spell. Eesh. That sure as hell wasn't an easy battle.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Gods]]

! Ehitorujue:
The God of mankind and the one behind the abduction of Hajime's class

* AGodAmI: He likes to call himself a god, and when Hajime observes his soul it shines silver, differentiating him from other souls.
* BigBad: ''Everything'' bad that happens in the story is his fault.
* CompellingVoice: Divine statement.
* ComplexityAddiction: Justified. He's an insane, sadistic "god" who gains entertainment from watching "pawns on the game board" struggle and suffer, so he deliberately ignores and disregards the simple and effective solution for any "problem" or "anomaly" and goes for the most bizarre, convoluted, illogical, inefficient, and immoral method he can, just so he can sit back and see what happens, and to generate the most collateral damage possible.
* CreateYourOwnHero: It was his purpose to bring Kouki to Tortus [[spoiler:to acquire a vessel capable to leaving his realm and be able to travel to other worlds.]] Hajime wasn't something under his calculations.
* FatalFlaw: Pride, and big time. While he is every bit as powerful as he claims, that doesn't stop him from gloating all the time, giving the heroes a chance to strike back.
* {{Foil}}: To Hajime, he's considered as what would've happened to Hajime if he hadn't met Yue and regained his humanity.
* ForTheEvulz: What his attitude towards Hajime could be surmissed as, he wishes for Hajime's despair, and while he could've easily killed him multiple times, Hajime is the perfect toy to torture for all eternity.
* GodIsEvil: Thousands of years after becoming the last survivor of his world, after the others simply gave up and passed on peacefully, he finally came to consider than the mortals were only there for his amusement, and suffering was the finest entertainment.
* GodOfHumanOrigin: At first he was a normal human in a [[LuddWasRight world where magic was really advanced]], but after acquiring concept magic and modifying himself over and over, it wouldn't be a stretch to consider him a real god.
* IShallTauntYou: He doesn't stop taunting Hajime after [[spoiler:acquiring Yue's body.]]
* OmnicidalManiac: Due to considering the suffering of mortals as his only source of entertainment, his final goal is to [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt exterminate]] tortus before abandoning the world and starting anew in other worlds, starting with Earth.
* OneWingedAngel: After Hajime expels him from Yue's body and puts a bullet in him, he [[VillainousBreakdown absorbs his creations(angels and monsters alike)]],he becomes a[[EldritchAbomination monster that consists of a big lump of meat]].
* VillainBall: He grips it with a death grip, he could've come out victorious at any point with zero effort of his part by simply either teleporting Yue to the devil's castle or teleporting Hajime back home before he acquired conceptual magic. Then he only sends one apostle after Hajime when he finally detects him, instead of, say, a hundred of them, when he had ''thousands'' available.
** Even after he acquires Yue's body and defeats Hajime with zero effort, instead of killing him right there and be done with it, he announces when he will come back to destroy the world and gives Hajime the chance to recover and strike back,to be fair, Yue was FightingFromTheInside to some degree to stop him.
** Above all else, he could have whisked Hajime away back to Earth, where Hajime ''wanted to go'' and got him out of the way, perhaps permanently, but instead antagonizes him at every moment, just for his sick pleasure.
--->Hajime: “I’ve had the knowledge of all seven of the liberators that fought against your god shoved into my brain. Did you never think for a second that they would have at least been aware of your god’s abilities? They spent a millennia preparing various tests to prepare someone strong enough to fight god, but you never consider that they didn’t spend a second thinking about the challenges of that fight? Are you stupid or something?”
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:He goes berserker after Hajime outplays him in the final battle and Yue regains control of her body]]
