But it started worsening when he was the one who was made to bury the pets in the family, making him see that the only way he could have anything was if he could bury them and call it his own. He started killing animals he liked and burying them, which eventually moved onto people.

* RedemptionEqualsDeath: The initial reason why Rachel seeks death is that she considered the murder of her own father and her own screwed personality to be sinful and unacceptable to 'God'. She still wishes to die after she has come to terms with it, but by then, she wanted to be killed by Zack out of her own desire.

Afterward, his mother sent him to an illegal orphanage, where he spent much of his childhood being abused and neglected by the wardens. * SinisterScythe: His weapon of choice, he is always seen carrying it around. Until later on when Rachel has to borrow it.

* WaterfallPuke: Happens in the anime, when Rachel asks Zack to kill her, he vomits in rainbow colors.

* WouldHitAGirl: He has no problem killing women, whether it be Rachel, Cathy, or a woman who lied to him in the past.

* AbusiveParents: His mother was implied to be of the mental variety.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: At first he seems polite and considerate, but as time passes it's plain to see that he’s not what he appears to be.

* EyeScream: He was born with only one eye.

* FinalBoss: Alongside [[FaceHeelTurn Rachel herself]], he is the last enemy standing between Zack and getting Rachel out of the tower.
* FreudianExcuse: The reason for his obsession with ripping out eyes and {{Yandere}} behavior toward Ray is that she has eyes just like his mother's, which were blue and [[DullEyesOfUnhappiness dull]]. She committed suicide when he was a child due to him only having one eye. Because of this incident, he has felt lonely, and believed that by bringing Ray to the tower, he wouldn't feel lonely anymore.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: Does this to Rachel in the game and anime where he’s caught her trying to escape and is about to perform an experiment to remove her eyes until he notices her change.

* LoveAtFirstSight: He was already obsessed with collecting eyes, but he became infatuated with her after laying witness to her dead, tranquil eyes, stating that it was the most beautiful pair of eyes he had ever seen.
* MadDoctor: He is obsessed with and has a collection of people’s eyes on his floor. He's the one who wants to find and preserve Rachel’s "beautiful peepers".

* SlasherSmile: This is shown after he has captured Rachel, and shows a much more sinister side to his reasons for “helping” her.
* StayingAlive: This guy has the tenacity of a cockroach, repeatedly coming back from what should have been mortal injuries. It takes the whole complex collapsing in on him to finally do him in for good.

* WhamLine: "You see, this... is my floor."

* KarmicDeath: Dies by Zack’s hand and buried by having a giant gravestone dropped on top of him.

* AbusiveParents: Was subjected to this before coming to the tower.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: For the first couple of minutes of the game, Rachel just seems like a normal but quiet teenager. [[TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior And then she sews a bird back together before giving it a proper burial.]] Not only does it show she’s more unhinged than she looks, but it also eerily {{foreshadow|ing}}s her past.

Her EstablishingCharacterMoment is sewing two halves of a dead bird back together, something she did twice in her past, first patching up a dead puppy she wanted to befriend, and then sewing her parents’ corpses together. That way they could all be a perfect family.

* WhatBeautifulEyes: Danny, at least, thinks that her DullEyesOfUnhappiness are beautiful. Hence why he wants to [[EyeScream scoop them out and preserve them]].
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Downplayed. Her hideously AbusiveParents, followed by her father murdering her mother ''in front of her'', caused her to have a psychotic break and, after killing her father in self-defense, she taxidermied their bodies (and a dog she also killed in self-defense) to create something resembling a perfect family. Downplayed in that she later comes to understand what she did was wrong and caused her to become suicidal out of shame and guilt; she tries to kill Zack at one point during a HeroicBSOD, but she was not in her right mind at the time and stops after calming down.

* AdaptationalHeroism: In the game, he's very simpleminded and animalistic, compared to the anime, where's he's more mellow.

* TheBrute: Serves as this for the floor master, being physically the strongest but least intelligent out of all of them.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: He may be an unrepentant serial killer who absolutely loves to murder his victims, especially if it’s in their last moments, but he has some standards:
** He ''hates'' liars with a burning passion, where his own principles dictate he never lies and he will kill someone out of anger if he's lied to.

* EvilLaugh: His trademark expression of whenever he’s about to go on a rampage and wreak havoc.
* EvilVersusEvil: Anytime he fights one of the Floor Masters, who are all worse off than him.

* ForegoneConclusion: After fleeing the orphanage, Zack eventually gets taken in by a blind old man, who offers him food and shelter out of the kindness of his heart. Zack doesn't even feel any desire to kill him. Just when it looked like Zack might gain a place to call home, the old man got mugged and killed while out shopping. While Zack wrought his vengeance, this also completed his transformation into a serial killer.

* CuteAndPsycho: At first appears to be a cheerful and talkative child but comes off as unsettling due to his job as the Tower’s grave-keeper and his unhealthy infatuation with Rachel.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:He confesses his love to Rachel before succumbing to the wounds he received from Zack.]]

* KnightTemplar: She believes herself to be a holy woman who brings judgement upon sinners, but in practice she is simply a self-righteous Sadist and torturer.

* DragonInChief: While he is technically merely the second floor master and servant of Grey, he is the one who recruited Cathy and Rachel to be the building's floor masters, and manipulates both of them to keep Rachel in the tower.

They even became prison wardens together at the same institution and Lucy committed any punishment Cathy asked of her. Sadly for Lucy, [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness Cathy had no qualms about also punishing her for her sins.]]
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Her parents were both doctors and apparently loved her and spoiled her, up until they were murdered by a relative of a failed patient. Averted in that Cathy is shown to not be affected by their death and still acts the same.
