* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: All the written notes are in excellent English. The lyrics of the opening and closing songs are also well-written, with good grammar.

* BookCode: The first Crown Handler OVA involves coded messages hidden in government proclamations by the scriptwriter, using a code based on early edition Shakespeare folios.

* TheThingThatGoesDoink: Discussed in Episode 11. Chise builds a ''shishi-odoshi'' out of metal (because she can't find bamboo), but when Princess asks what its for, she doesn't know the answer.

* OffModel: Kicks in hard with episode eight, where basically any face that isn't in a basic angle becomes a blurred mess of dots.

* FullCircleRevolution: The reason why Princess rejects [[spoiler:Zelda's plan to put her on the throne via an outright coup is that even if it works, it would no doubt inspire a later rebellion to return things to the way it was. Her own plan to reach the throne by somehow removing or disqualifying the other heirs would at least grant her the appearance of legitimacy to prevent this. Of course, Zelda doesn't ''care'', as what she really wants is for the chaos of a civil war to grant the Commonwealth an opening to invade.]]

* ZeppelinsFromAnotherWorld: Played with. Given that the series takes place around the turn of the century, the existence of airships isn't totally out of place, but they aren't dirigeables so much as giant flying ships kept aloft by ArtificialGravity manipulation.
