** In the original series, Suiko was the Tatsunagi sister to receive the least attention, thanks to Kourin being an AscendedExtra in ''Link Joker'' and Rekka forming a PowerTrio with Mai and Emi. Here, Suiko not only has an expanded role as a neutral party after losing to Ibuki and commentating on current events, she becomes one of the leads opposite Ibuki in ''Extra Story -If-'', making her a main character.

* ScrewDestiny: The [=PSYQualia=] Zombies gain the ability to foresee visions of their victory against their opponents. Some characters such as Kai, Ibuki, and Ren are able to defy those visions.
* SequelHook: The end of the Shinemon arc leaves the door open for a future adaptation of the ''G'' storyline along with several unanswered questions and loose plot threats which include [[spoiler:Rive's whereabouts, the purpose of the Singularities, Chronotiger Rebellion's goal and why Cray units appeared on Earth in the first place.]]
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: The plot of the Extra Story -IF- Arc is Ibuki, Suiko and the Blaster pair fixing distortions made in both the past and future with the first one being Ibuki putting the deck in Chrono's shoelocker.

** The Shinemon arc recap has Kanzaki drawn in ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure JOJO]]'''s SignatureStyle. Doubles as ActorAllusion since he is voiced by Creator/TakehitoKoyasu, the same voice actor as Dio.
** During the -If- arc, multiple characters (Ren, Emi and Shuka in -If- 6, Ibuki in -If- 9 and Rekka in -If- 13) present themselves as [[Series/KamenRiderDecade "Just a regular high school student/pair of magical girls/beautiful warrior woman, passing by"]].
** In -If- 8, Mask the Dark introducing himself by throwing a Blaster Dark card in between Emi and Misaki, much like [[Manga/SailorMoon Tuxedo Mask with his roses]].
** In -If- 9, Shuka wears a detective outfit similar to the one worn by [[Anime/TanteiOperaMilkyHolmes Nero Yuzurizaki]] when interrogating Ren/Mask the Dark if he was the one who spiked Emi's tea with ghost pepper. He actually asks her "which Holmes is she supposed to be".
** In -If- 11, many of the proposal for a Vanguard Association mascot are references:
*** Tonori and Nanami's first idea is of [[Manga/{{Doraemon}} a robot cat from the future]]. The sketch shown is [[GagCensor pixellated and covered with a Jammer mark]], and Kanzaki rejects it because [[YouWannaGetSued they would be sued if the association used it]].
*** Oyama's presentation is a chibi version of Mask the Dark called [[Series/KamenRiderBlackRX Mask the Vanguard RX]], who is also presented as a "child of the wild"[[note]]Kamen Rider BLACK RX presented himself as a "child of the sun"[[/note]].
*** Kanzaki's presentation is a CombiningMecha made of kitties called [[Anime/{{Voltron}} Meowtron]][[note]][[Anime/GoLion Gonyanion]] in the original version[[/note]], whose cat head emerges from a more Franchise/{{Gundam}}-like head.
*** Ryuzu and Tetsuya's mascot is [[Series/SpaceSheriffGavan Interspacial Vangabang]], complete with parody of the BallOfLightTransformation.
** In -If- 12, Ibuki knocks out that world's Ren with a punch in the gut when it became obvious that the guy was out of control. The scene is an almost shot-for-shot recreation of a similar scene in ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV''.
* ShroudedInMyth: Due to the fact Gear Chronicle only made one public appearance, it gained the rumor of being a legendary clan that may not even exist.

** As the plot of ''G'' is largely kept to the final two episodes of ''Shinemon'', and only covers Chrono's introduction to Vanguard, most of the G cast are giving cameos at best, with Shion, Tokoha, and Kumi in particular being shown watching Chrono from afar at school. The few exceptions are ones giving connections to the prior cast, such a Mamoru forming a bond with Kai, or the characters tied to Shin's past.

* DemotedToExtra: Many side characters from the original series here make only brief cameos. Kamui's two pals Eiji and Reiji appear only in a flashback where Kyou defeats them in a Serious Fight and they quit playing Vanguard because of that, various minor characters from original Season 1 like Osamu or Team Brilliant Stars appear briefly to get curb stomped by Aichi in his fight against Foo Fighters members, while the other two members of Team Caesar, Jillian and Sharlene, and the Miyaji High school council have only brief cameos in early episodes of the second arc, Albeit the High School council became relevant in the third arc.

* AdaptationExpansion: Compared to the manga. More time is spent focused on the characters; some elements are also added from the original series, making this a combination of both the original series and the manga.

* RealityEnsues: Because the Shinemon arc is far more grounded compared to the previous seasons, you tend to see a lot of this with the arc.

*** As it turns out luck and ContrivedCoincidence sometimes doesn't truly exist since it turns out the person who bought the tuna from them was actualy [[spoiler:Esuka's butler in disguise]].
*** While they did manage to make a fun event, they weren't able to make profit from it since they are all too young to understand how the business side of a store works.

Cardfight!! Vanguard (V series) began airing in May 5th, 2018. The first three arcs which follow Aichi's journey once more were based on the manga made by Akira Ito, but spun around its own story when its material ran out. Also unlike the previous series, the V series goes through various time periods and even other worlds.

*** Lock was always a controversial mechanic, thus Link Joker decides to use other mechanics while giving it more offensive options. Deletors still delete the Vanguard, Brandt switches trigger effects, and Messiahs still lock themselves. As sort of a spiritual successor to Lock, Darkface and Darkface Gredora of the Megacolony clan both include the Cradle ability, which wipes away their skills, power, and thier ability to attack or boost, essentially they are soft locked as they still have presence on the field as units and can be replaced, but upon retiring the cradled unit, the player causing the cradle gets a card of the same grade as the retired unit to discourage replacing them.

** While not shown in its entirety, the fight between [[spoiler: Emi and Kai in the final episode of If is basically a repeat of the first duel between Aichi and Kai, complete with her riding Blaster Blade while Kai already got Dragonic Overlord on the field.]]

** Happens at least once per episode in the -If- arc - mostly characters complaining about animation errors.

* TokenNonHuman: In the -IF- arc, [[spoiler:Shuka]] reveals to Suiko that [[spoiler:she is in fact a Cray Elemental]] and asks her not to tell Emi.

* WolfPackBoss: Episode 11 of the -IF- card has Emi and Shuka facing against [[spoiler:Chronotiger Rebellion, Claret Sword Dragon and Draconic Vanquisher]] all at once.

* DenserAndWackier: The ''Extra Story -iF-'' series is this in spades. Aside from the initial premise alone (Emi as a magical girl), the episodes are chuck full of several comedic gags, scenarios and dialogues complete with meta humor and the occasional fourth-wall breaking.

** During the -If- arc, multiple characters (Ren, Emi and Shuka in -If- 6, Ibuki in -If- 9 and Rekka in -If- 13) present themselves as [[Series/KamenRiderDecade "Just a regular high school student/magical girl/beautiful warrior woman, passing by"]].

** Played with. In the -IF- arc, Mask the Dark is clearly Ren in a PaperThinDisguise, something that Ibuki immediately lampshades. However, he acts exactly as this trope towards Emi and Shuka, who have no idea who he is (they never met him), helping them out in pinches to even the odds, only to disappear right afterwards. In addition, there's no indication how he even knows about the Jammers, anomalies, or how he's time traveling.

* TheReveal: In the -If- arc, it's revealed that [[spoiler:Kai is completely absent rather than simply not mentioned.]]

** As Kyou is an AscendedExtra here, Team Avengers is never formed, and his would-be teammates are never shown.

** The Quatre-Knights aren't formed here, and as such its unclear if their members even exist in this continuity.

* '''Extra Story -IF- Arc''': Jammer has distorted the world into a place where things are not resolved by Vanguard. Ibuki and Suiko travel to the -If- world where they meet the Blaster Pair comprised of MagicalGirl Emi Sendou and the fairy of cards Shuka. The four of them start their journey to recover the world's true history.

** [[spoiler:-If- 12 reveals that Ren has a Mysterious Backer on his own that helps him with his stuns, though the only information on that person is that they're female, and that's solely going by the voice.]]

** Both Ren and Emi in if 6 (and Ibuki in if 9) present themselves as [[Series/KamenRiderDecade "Just a regular high school student/magical girl, passing by"]].
** In if 9, Shuka wears a detective outfit similar to the one worn by [[Anime/TanteiOperaMilkyHolmes Nero Yuzurizaki]] when interrogating Ren/Mask the Dark if he was the one who spiked Emi's tea with ghost pepper. He actually asks her "which Holmes is she supposed to be".

* DenserAndWackier: The ''Extra Story -iF-'' series is this in spades. While it has a storyline, the episodes are chuck full of several comedic gags, scenarios and dialogues all throughout.

* LighterAndSofter: The High School arc and the beginning of Shinemon arc are very lighthearted and goofy with tones of comedic scenes. ''Extra Story -iF-'' is this in spades.

** Due to the Shinemon arc being a prequel, it's already set in stone that Shinemon will succeed in protecting Card Capital and will officially become the manager of the shop. Also due to the state of the shop, there were already subtle hints [[spoiler:Shinemon would not win the National championship since if he used to be a famous professional cardfighter, the cardshop would be much busier.]]

** Both Ren and Emi in episode 6 (and Ibuki in episode 9) present themselves as [[Series/KamenRiderDecade "Just a regular high school student/magical girl, passing by"]].

*** Base powers have been universally increased. More specifically, Grade 3 units that are in a Force clan are at a base power of 13,000, Grade 3 units in the Accel and Protect clans are at 12,000 base power. In addition Grade 4 units have only been released for Force Clans.

*** Shield values have also been adjusted. Heal Trigger units are 20,000 shield, Front and Critical Trigger units are 15,000 shield, most Grade 1 units are 10,000 shield, and some Draw Triggers have the Sentinel keyword (though all sentinels are still 0 shield no matter what grade they are). Vanilla units (units with no skills) have also been adjusted to do one of two things, either gain more base shield [note]Grade 1 units would have 15,000 shield and Grade 2 units would have 10,000[/note], or lose all shield to have more power. Later expansions also introduced Critical Triggers with 30,000 shield and the Sentinel keyword.
