* ''Fanfic/InfinityTrainFanFic'': While Tulip can be a bit of a {{jerkass}} in the [[WesternAnimation/InfinityTrain canon Book One]], this version of Tulip always has a rude remark or quip at the ready, can be quite self-centered in her actions, and holds a [[HairTriggerTemper short fuse for any and all silliness]]. Her CharacterDevelopment involves [[TookALevelInKindness shedding this behavior]]. In addition, while canon Tulip is a realistically smart kid for her age, the fic's version is a full-on TeenGenius with a talent for computer engineering [[HiddenDepths and music]].

* Jin Kisaragi in ''Fanfic/BlazBlueAlternativeRemnant'' notably lacks the obsessive, murderous insanity he had whenever he was in Ragna's presence that he had in the games.

* In ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'', Naofumi started out as a soft-spoken otaku before being broken down unto a KnightInSourArmor. In ''Fanfic/ASpecialKindOfMagic'', he is more of the AbsentMindedProfessor-type who is more interested in learning the ins and outs of Melromarc and its magic system to even notice whatever conspiracies are going on around him.
* Calvin in ''FanFic/KingdomCrossovers'' seems to have had his personality pulled from ''FanFic/TheCalvinverse'', being a focused GadgeteerGenius badass rather than the normal, hyperactive little boy he was in ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes''.
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11701126/1/Anything-Goes-Game-Changer Anything Goes Game Changer]]'':
** [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Ranma]] is considerably more polite and responsible due to a chance meeting with [[Manga/{{Sekirei}} Miya Asama]] and her agreement to become his sparring partner in exchange for acting as a handyman for her inn.
** Downplayed with Genma who, due to having to train more to keep up with Ranma, has regained his pride as a martial artist. Ranma notes he's still far from TheParagon but he's a much better person than he'd otherwise have been.
** Because Ranma sent a postcard to Ryoga, who also managed to get in contact with Miya, he knows Ranma didn't abandon their fight and so didn't follow him to China. As a consequence, Ryoga not only doesn't have a curse, he's a FriendlyRival to Ranma rather than an outright enemy.
* ''Fanfic/{{Heimatfront}}'' ends up with very different portrayals of a few characters, largely the result of taking place during World War II, rather than during a high school sports tournament in which no one's supposed to get hurt.
** Maria Nitzschmann[=/=]Miho Nishizumi. Miho is a somewhat shy and not entirely confident girl who [[IJustWantToHaveFriends wants friends]], but also happens to be a highly talented tank commander. Maria, however, is somewhat wary toward Saori and Hana's counterparts at first, since she realizes that people do often turn in their friends for possible disloyalty in Nazi Germany. While Maria is as kind as Miho is, in the scene in which Meike (aka Mako) hears of her grandmother's collapse, she's unable to go over to comfort Meike, due to feeling the need to keep a certain distance from her subordinate in this situation.
** Anzu Kadotani[=/=]Anja Konigsberg. Anzu is a cheerful but lazy StudentCouncilPresident who despite appearing to have a devil-may-care attitude, can be serious, as well as highly competent, [[LetsGetDangerous when the chips are down]]. Anja, however, is far more consistently serious and cold, considering the circumstances, such as when she bluntly tells Meike (aka Mako) that she doesn't have time to think about whether to go home or stay with the BDM girls and continue fighting.
** The Porsche Tiger's crew. In canon, they're a group of female auto enthusiasts. In the fanfic, they're composed of some male army members who aren't happy about taking orders from a woman.

* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/14104653/chapters/32498268 Glassbreaker - Superb Song of the Valkyries]]'':[[Literature/{{Worm}} Taylor Hebert]] goes from a ShrinkingViolet who is a massive BullyMagnet to a BullyHunter with a spine of steel, although she is still a massive fan of capes.
** [[PointOfDIvergence Due to never joining Sophia's clique]], Madison Clements is the BullyMagnet. Luckily for her, Taylor makes it a habit of defending anyone who is being bullied.
** Due to Kanade surviving [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique her zesshou]], [[Anime/{{Symphogear}} Tsubasa Kazanari]] was able to avoid [[TookALevelInJerkass taking a level in jerkass]] like she did in canon.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13193683/1/Ere-we-go-Pluz-Ultra Ere we go, Pluz Ultra!]]'', Izuku is reimagined as a BloodKnight GadgeteerGenius due to having the psychic energy of an entire [[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Ork tribe]] as his Quirk.
* ''Fanfic/TheMarvelousWorldOfDC'': Grigori Rasputin is not TheCasanova that his historical counterpart and canonical self was, never interacting with women in any non-platonic way.
* ''Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomingTrail'': Chloe Cerise, in the few times she's been seen in ''Pokémon Journeys'' was usually aloof, snarky, wanted nothing to do with Pokémon and was unsure of what she wanted to do with life. In the story, we see her kind, compassionate, but with a slightly shorter fuse, known to have bouts of self-deprecation and quick to make dark quips if it suits her fancy.
* ''Fanfic/NothingIsImpossible'': [[WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot Jenny]] in this story is more submissive and less willing to go against orders than the original, who often disobeyed her mother to try and engage in more human activities. By contrast, Nora here is more open and encouraging of the idea of getting Jenny to socialize, while her show counterpart originally never let her leave the house unless there was a threat she needed to stop.

* In ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'', Izuku could best be described as BadassAdorable; an altruist who wishes to be the next symbol of peace. The version of Izuku in ''Fanfic/SwitchTheColors'' is much more cynical and sarcastic, routinely defacing All Might's billboards with graffiti and throwing shade at other people. Sure he's still very much hero material, but he's far from the idealist his canon-counterpart was.
* In ''[[https://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-32155/bakenandeggs+Influenced+Out+of+Normality.htm Influence Out of Normality]]'', Xander is changed from BookDumb to BrilliantButLazy while Willow is a BitchInSheepsClothing, particularly towards Xander. He notes at one point that Cordelia usually doesn't mean the mean things she says, while Willow always means it if she says something cruel.
* ''Fanfic/GuardiansWizardsAndKungFuFighters'': While a power hungry tyrant like in the cartoon and comics, this story also makes Phobos paranoid and emotionally unstable, which he was not in canon.

* In ''Literature/TheEminenceInShadow'', Cid Kagenō never thought the Cult of Diabolos were real, believing them to something he made up for his fantasies. In ''Fanfic/TheEminenceInShadowTheShadowsWeb'', due to Arachne explaining to him, Cid fully believed in the Cult's existence and thus, took the situation with them far more seriously.
* ''Fanfic/TheParliamentOfHeroes'': While [[Characters/{{Deathstroke}} Rose Wilson/Worth]] was well adjusted in the comics prior to her time under Slade, after the fact, she became a temperamental, vulgar-tongued JerkWithAHeartOfGold on her best days and borderline AxCrazy on her worst, not to mention outright UnableToCry due to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Here, while still a bit of a LadySwearsALot, she's ultimately a NiceGal who, at her worst, is just socially awkward and aloof, with her being able to shed tears and grieve openly. In addition, Rose in the comics was ''disturbingly'' promiscuous for a teenager, while here she's rather oblivious to such concepts.

* ''FanFic/ToHellAndBackArrowverse'': Several, due to the nature of the premise of the story.

* In ''Fanfic/TheStalkingZukoSeries'', there are a few examples, and some of the ones that don't fall into other tropes are as follows.

* ''Fanfic/RepublicCityBlues'': This version of Asami is an AxCrazy MafiaPrincess who is capable of murdering entire rooms of people and feeling no remorse. Korra is also a lot colder here, mostly due to her background as an ex-cop.

* Damian Wayne still displays shades of being a SpoiledBrat when introduced in ''Fanfic/TheChangelingSequence'', but not as entrenched as his canon portrayal since he's implied to be younger. Jason managing to healthily bond with him and the trauma resulting from his mother's apparent death further help to transform him into a reserved, more affectionate child whose integration into the Batfam proceeds smoother.

* ''FanFic/DanganRonpaAssassinatingFriendship'': While most Monokumas are eager to see plenty of Despair stirred up by the [[DeadlyGame mutual killing games]], ''this'' Monokuma claims that he wants to see ''Hope'' instead. He also comes off as significantly more of a ButtMonkey than other incarnations, having a much harder time commanding respect from the participants or his Kubs.

* ''Fanfic/CoolCatSavesVietnam'': Daddy Derek is actually disillusioned with his son and views him as an AttentionWhore, and making movies about him is how he convinces him he's special.
--> Cool Cat, his dearest and very genetically related son, hadn't been in a film for almost 4 years. It was weighing down on him hard since convincing Cool Cat that he's famous was how Daddy Derek kept him off Daddy Derek's back for a while. But Daddy hadn't had his alone time with Mama Cat in a long time. That was unacceptable.

* Sora undergoes a radical change of personality in ''FanFic/Digimon02TheStoryWeNeverTold'' compared to her original ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' counterpart. In canon, she adopts a more girlish personality after her [[Anime/DigimonAdventure original adventure]] like playing tennis instead of soccer, becoming YamatoNadeshiko flower seller with little trace of her tomboyish personality, and as an adult, become a fashion designer. Here, she's a literal FieryRedhead, becoming the captain of the girls soccer team, [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan slapping Yolei when she gets hysterical]], gives a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech facing down Gargomon, and straight up punching Yolei, [[spoiler:who was being a bitch and ridiculing Sora [[KickTheDog over her parents and her feelings for Tai]]]].

* Isabela, due to not being under constant pressure to be the perfect one and being Alma's least favorite in ''Fanfic/HowFarDoTheseRootsGoDown'', has developed a rebellious streak towards her, having realized that gaining her approval isn't worth it.

* ''FanFic/ABrighterDark'' does this for numerous members of the VideoGame/FireEmblemFates story. The [[AdaptedOut exclusion]] of Anankos allows readers to see a Garon who is less OmnicidalManiac and more WellIntentionedExtremist, living by an IDidWhatIHadToDo philosophy (though this comes as [[InformedAttribute more informed than seen]] )even at the expense of his familial relationships.
** Corrin probably sees the most drastic change. Going from an AllLovingHero to a {{Ladette}}, lustful, NoSympathy for others BloodKnight.
* A few characters in ''Fanfic/FireEmblemThreeHousesFifthPath'' are slightly different from their canon counterparts but Byleth is the most notable. In canon, Byleth is serious, silent, and rarely smiles or cracks jokes, even after what little character development she gets. In this fic, Byleth is loud, outgoing, and loves cracking jokes.
** Hilda also undergoes a personality change though not to the extent of Byleth. While she is still lazy, she is also mildly ADD and has difficulty sitting still. Additionally, while in canon she's usually in control of the situation and is a master manipulator, here she's rarely in control, finding herself in uncomfortable or dangerous situations because of the actions of others.

* ''Fanfic/OfBloodAndSteel'' has a significantly different portrayal of Erwin than ''Anime/GirlsUndPanzer'' canon. In canon, Erwin doesn't have much of a personality besides her love of history, and seems fairly unflappable. In the fic, she's bitter about her father's death forcing her family into poverty, doesn't get along with her mother, is bored and listless about everything besides tankery and clashes with Jackie over who gets to lead the team[[note]]Not only does Erwin not express any interest in leading Oarai's team, but she's technically not even the leader of Hippo Team- she commands the tank in battle, but Caesar is head of the club and the representative in the commanders' meeting in Episode 4[[/note]], making her more of a standard teenager. In the fic, Erwin is, albeit reluctantly, forced to leave her iconic hat and jacket at home in order to fit in, contrary to how she continued wearing them in spite of Sodoko's objections (unlike Oarai, Raven's Peak does not have a uniform).
* ''Fanfic/{{Turtles}}'', like the above example, expands on a character who had relatively little personality in the original- in this case, Koume, the girl Miho saved in the previous tournament finals. In canon, Koume's a NiceGirl who's deeply grateful to Miho. Here, she's rather bitter and snarky toward the student council, for everything from forcing Miho into tankery to [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking being named after fruits]][[note]]Keep in mind that Koume's name means "little plum"[[/note]] and nicknames Momo, who's a member of the student council and Koume's sempai "Peachy." In canon, Koume doesn't appear to have any issues with serving under Maho or [[JerkAss Erika]], but here, she resents Maho for being an AloofBigSister and not showing Miho enough sisterly affection.

* In ''Fanfic/ForgetMeNotDontLeaveMeBehind'', as a result of being raised by his mother away from Cloud Recesses, Wangji is more open and befriends Wei Wuxian more easily.
* In ''Fanfic/SecondBiteOfTheCherry'', Wei Ying isn't as wild and secretly depressed as her canon counterpart, as [[GenderBender she]] was raised in the very strict Cloud Recesses with a distant but caring Lan Qiren as her Parental Substitute

* We have this with Satsuki from ''Fanfic/MaimDeMaim''. In canon, you can't say that she was the nicest, nor could you say she could lighthearted but, in this fic, she's actually one of the sweetest, silliest, and an all around most kindhearted person one can meet, on top of a being a stoner and a pacifist. This also occurs for Ryuuko, who, in canon, was more a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, while in this fic, she's meaner, an a drinker, a tyrant, and a {{spoiled brat}} but, like canon, her more negative traits mellowed with CharacterDevelopment.

* ''FanFic/FurAndPhotography'': Max was very introverted in the game. Here, being an alpha werewolf with her own support group and a history of leadership to a pack in Seattle have given her a much needed confidence boost, slapping around Nathan whenever he gets out of line and intimidating Victoria whenever she tries starting something.

* In ''FanFic/{{Starbound}}'', Mondo, originating from ''Anime/MonColleKnights'' as simply upbeat and casual, is {{flanderized}} to be "[[TotallyRadical cool]]", in direct contrast to [[TheOjou Miyuki]] upon first meeting her and appearing himself. His habit of hitting up on girls is also gone, even though he does brag to two different parties about having spent a night with a whole bunch of girls at Rokuna's house.

* While she's based on the [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU's]] naive, dorky rendition of Peter Parker, Peta in ''Fanfic/PetaParker'' is far more confident and snarky, baring a closer similarity to the original comic book.

* ''WebComic/ScarletLady'':

* The ''Fanfic/AbraxasHrodvitnon'' version of Ren Serizawa, having begun writing before ''Film/GodzillaVsKong'' came out, is quite different in terms of personality from the canon Ren. Instead of murderously despising Godzilla, regarding all the Titans as obstacles to human progress that should be either corraled or eradicated, and preferring technology to nature; this version of Ren initially has a neutral outlook on the Titans, but he comes to respect them as forces of nature after seeing Godzilla, Rodan, and Monster X fight [[UndeadAbomination the Many]]. Although this version of Ren still resents his late father for not showing him more praise or attention, he doesn't help an evil corporation to mercilessly put millions of innocent people in Godzilla's firing line so he can seek revenge over it. Whereas the canon Ren was quiet and sinister, this version is more sarcastic and [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold gold-hearted]].

* In ''Fanfic/LockedInDigital'':

* ''Fanfic/{{Continuance}}'' does this with a few ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' characters:

* ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' has done this to several characters:

* Akane in ''Fanfic/RanmaSaotomeChiMaster'' drops her {{Tsundere}} attitude and becomes a genuine NiceGirl after Ranma cleanses her of her anger-induced chi. Ranma himself is less misogynistic and antagonistic due to his Guru cleansing him a couple years before the story's start.

* Oobleck in ''Fanfic/RubyAndNora''. While an eccentric man in canon, this Oobleck lacks all of the seriousness and professionalism of his canon counterpart, instead making him a PluckyComicRelief.

* In canon, Carmelita was an ill-tempered Interpol agent with unflinching faith in the law and a compassionate center, only teaming up with Cooper when she has no other choice and otherwise having a DatingCatwoman dynamic. In ''Fanfic/SlyCooperAndCarmelitaFoxAndTheThieviusRaccoonus'', she is far less committed to the strong-arm of the law despite having pride in her Hero Cop family legacy, considering she makes special exception to the Cooper Gang and is dating their leader.

* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/8491420 We Are The Chatroom Gems]]'' has quite a few cases of this:

** Jasper is portrayed as much nicer than in canon, to point of being friends with Rose Quartz.

* [[https://su-mafia-yandere-lapidot-au-blog.tumblr.com/post/166989450627/i-think-a-good-example-of-the-differences-in As Dark Mage of Ylisse herself notes,]] there are significant differences in how she portrays Yellow Diamond and her Pearl (who will be referred to as Limone) from fic to fic.
** Mafia!Yellow is a villainous figure, but has some redeeming qualities. Chatroom!Yellow is an abusive, homophobic, unrepentantly vile woman whose only redeeming quality is her love for her birth daughter. Arcane!Yellow is someone driven to a murderous rage by circumstance. And finally, Wings!Yellow is a broken shell of a woman who, though snarky, actually wants to help people.
** Mafia!Limone is a good girl gone bad. Chatroom!Limone is a child who acts like a brat because she doesn't know any better yet. Arcane!Limone is an outright murderer, though she can still change. Last but not least, Wings!Limone is ashamed of who she is and hides it pretending to be a jerk.
* In canon, Blue Pearl is presented as meek and withdrawn. In ''Webcomic/BlueAuniverse'', she is bubbly and excitable.
* Since Garnet didn't have to fill in as leader for the Crystal Gems in ''Fanfic/PieceOfADiamond'', she seems a lot less stoic than her canon counterpart.

* It's an incorrect quote blog, so naturally, ''[[https://incorrectsmashbrosquotes.tumblr.com Incorrect Smash Bros Quotes]]'' is going to change some things [[RuleOfFunny for the sake of humor]]. The fighters themselves are generally [[DeadpanSnarker a lot snarkier]] than they were in their home games, but more noticeable are the changes made to [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate Galeem and Dharkon]]. In their home game, both were [[GenericDoomsdayVillain Generic Doomsday Villains]], which informed their initial characterizations in [=ISBQ=]: somewhat generic, if eloquent, villains who didn't like the Smashers. Then DivergentCharacterEvolution kicked in, and while Galeem kept some of those initial traits (albeit with a few more HiddenDepths and a ''lot'' more snark) Dharkon was changed completely, going from a terrifying EldritchAbomination to an energetic, reckless {{Keet}}.

* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaCodysRedemption'': Gwen, unlike her canon self, has a deep hatred of geeks, convinced that any niceness they show is nothing but a facade they use to seduce girls naive enough to believe them.

* [[Characters/OldScars Clementine]] in ''Fanfic/OldScars''. While she is still the adorable badass we all know and love, she has become less tough and acts more like the child she is.

* Elphaba in ''Fanfic/{{Verdigris}}'' is a lot more timid and less sarcastic than in canon. This is because she grew up the secluded daughter of a physically and emotionally abusive father.

** While Lila starts out as the same {{Manipulative|Bitch}} BitchInSheepsClothing as {{Canon}}, she is quickly undone by several of her classmates being a little savvier and Scarlet Lady [[DisproportionateRetribution being much crueler]]. With encouragement from Marinette, Rose, Alix and Sabrina, she shifts towards a HeelFaceTurn, showing a penchant for BrutalHonesty in the process.

** While Todoroki arguably changes the least out of the three, he still has some development. He goes from the stoic and aloof prodigy that is dead-set on beating Midoriya, to arguably the [[OnlySaneMan most emotionally stable of the three]], as well as lightening up a significant amount.
