Ununnilium:

  • A few Code Lyoko fans belive X.A.N.A might be a virus.

That's "a virus", not The Virus. As far as I've seen in the show, it doesn't act like The Virus.

Lale: It has caused a few Zombie Apocalypses, not just with humans but bees, rats, birds... The Virus is just one of the "demonic artificial intelligence's" many and varied M.O.s.

Citizen: "Jesse is dead! You have to remember that when you see him, you're not looking at your friend. You're looking at the thing that killed him." <— I read "Jesse" as "Jesus" at first glance. I somehow have to wonder if there's a lesson in that. =P
  • Lime: I did too. ._.

Purged quotes:

"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
The Borg, Star Trek

"You need not fear. We will remove fear. We will remove age and sex and class. You will become like us."
Cyber Leader, Doctor Who

"Do not be afraid. I am eternity. I am peace. I run a timeless course, join your voice with mine, and sing victory, everlasting!"
The Gravemind, Halo 3

washington213:

Should O'Malley be classified as The Virus? Pretty much every other example has the virus spreading. O'Malley seems cloer to a body surfer.

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: Started editing this, and then realized I was in over my head. If the last explanation in the chain is true, this doesn't belong here, but Naruto has long been a rich source of accidental MindScrews, so...

  • Naruto's Orochimaru is currently in a condition similar to The Virus. (As in, he IS the virus, not possessed by the virus).
    • Turns out he is (or was) two viruses: his body infecting Kabuto and his soul (or consciousness or something like that) infecting Sasuke, until Itachi trapped him in an eternal genjutsu.
      • It might be even more complicated. Kabuto remarked he had integrated Orochimaru's soul into his body, while we also know that his soul was in Sasuke. His being trapped in a genjutsu by Itachi seems to count as death, since it activated Sasuke's magekyo sharingan. But the Kabuto/Orochi being is, as far as we know, still alive, so Orochimaru is only half dead... *Your Head A-Splode*
      • This troper thought it was rather straightforward — Orochimaru is dead, his soul was trapped inside of Sasuke because of Orochimaru mistakenly using an eye technique to take over bodies, but escaped when Sasuke was too weak during the Itachi fight to contain him, but the white snake (Orochimaru's last remnants of a soul) was casually killed by Itachi. Meanwhile, Kabuto has completely lost his mind, stole parts of Orochimaru's corpse(s) and used his corrupted medical techniques to replace parts of his body with Orochimaru's dead bodyparts. Regardless, it's a bit convoluted and a serious Thirty Xanatos Pileup.

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: And about the Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch example: is Yuuri's piano-playing contagious? Does it drive others to play the piano, or what?

Cosman246: Let's not include the Real Life examples...there are way too many, plus, they scare people
