So...what is the difference between an Otaku who is female and an Otaku Surrogate? Does any female Otaku qualify?

LO Rd: Removed Dentaku's They Are My Noble Masters example because well...it didn't seem to have a lot to do with the trope.

Nornagest: I'm trying to think of how to rewrite the Dresden Codak example in a way that will make the caveats clear without leading to swarms of me-too comments, but nothing's coming to mind. Help me out here?

Edit: Ah, of course. The problematic part is "no women think like that". Here's the old version, natter and all:

* Webcomic Example: Kimiko from Dresden Codak, who is a Radical futurist/Trans-humanist technology otaku in a comic written by a man who has also written for futurist publications. One common criticism of the comic is that few, if any, women actually think that way in real life.
** This female troper identifies quite a lot with Kimiko, although she's not nearly as immersed in the subject.
*** Marry me?
** This female troper is a bit like that too, despite also liking some shoujo (and even yaoi and yuri-flavored) things. Namely, she and other four ladies are the few females in their mecha-oriented fan group.
** The claim has been disproven in its strong form, having here two examples of women who do identify; the burden of evidence is hereby on the original troper to prove the "few" part. Also, I second the third troper.
**Kimiko is intended to be radical and unique. I think it's safe to say that her particular thought process is relatively rare among humans of either sex.

Smashing Melons 42: This trope kinda bugs me. As mentioned on the Double Standard page, it assumes that an cute, female character who's interested in stuff that's usually liked by male otaku was created as, well, a surrogate. Thing is, I'm like that, and there are a few other examples here or on the main page. However, the description doesn't even mention the double standard, so I suggest that someone either edits it so that it does, or we change the name to something more generic, like Otaku Girl. (BTW, this is the right place to suggest stuff like this, right? I'm kind of lurker-ish, so i don't really know.)
