Working Title: Metal Slime: From YKTTW

Shandrunn: Taking out the Amazy Dayzees from Paper Mario. They don't give any remarkable rewards, and they're not rare. They're plain old Goddamned Bats.

  • Umm, I'll have to disagree with you there. They give out the most experience of any enemy in the game, bosses included, AND are very rare...

Ninjacrat: Re-pulling:
  • The wandering legendary Pokemon, such as Raikou, Entei, and Suicune in Gold and Silver versions. When you find them they usually run away the first chance they get, but damage you do to them carries over from one battle to the next, so if you can get in some hits you'll be better off next time.
  • Actually they don't really belong in this trope at all. Legendarys are fairly easy to catch, you just have to know how. If they run, stop them from doing so with Spider Web, Mean Look, Shadow Tag or somthing similar. Then send them to sleep or paralize them and knock them down to 1HP with False Swipe. After that just throw a Quick, Dark or Timer Ball and you've caught yourself a Legendary.
    • Or if you're cheap just throw a Master Ball. You'll get them thrown at you from the lottery sooner or later.
because if something isn't an example, you don't talk about how it isn't an example.

  • In this case the entire Pokemon section in this trope should be deleted, as nothing in it is an example. Btw. other tropes are filled with subvertions. This is one, too. They could be metal slimes but they aren't as there are proper technics in place to subvert it. —Anonym

Ninjacrat: That's Not A Subversion.

  • Well it is if you consider, that many people see them as metal slimes, but they are really not if proper atacks are used. Thus it's subverted, imo. But I'm not going to argue here any longer. You have a choice: If you think it's not a subverted metal slime, fine. But then you'll have to remove everything about Pokemon in this trope, as it doesn't belong here. Or you admit that it is a subversion, then you'll have to let the whole thing stay on there. Your decision.

Ninjacrat: So much for consensus-building.

In any case, I refuse to bow to your demands, you dangeous ontological terrorist you. The Pokemon examples seem very Metal Slime-y, and the existance of tricks to capture them doesn't change that.

  • They are not tricks, they are normal atacks, that with one question in a forum you'll know about. Just ctach a freakng Gastly, use Mean Look with it and legendarys / Abras won't run away. It's been this way since 3 Generations, but most people still preceive them as metal slimes, thus making it a subversion. Just read Subverted Trope. And I'm certainly not the terrorist in this case. It's you who simply neglegts any logic. Either it's a case of the trope which also gets subverted, or it's not a case of it at all. There is no in between. Make up your mind!

Ninjacrat: TV Tropes really is attracting some colourful characters these days, isn't it?

  • Wow this was a really good response, directly related to my arguments. I guess you're right, you must be as you are so eloquent and right on topic......... My argument stands. They are preceived as metal slimes. Look at all the coments you edited out and the two that are still on the site. Yet there are many atacks and abilitys in place to make them easy to catch. Those atacks and ability aren't even hidden. You will encounter them or the Pokemon that use them in the game while in your anitial playthrough. I cursed a lot of times when Gastlys Mean Looked me and I couldn't switch my Pokémon or Wobbuffet did the same thing to me with it's ability, even in trainer fights. So they are not really metal slimes, but people still preceive them as such, thus making it a subversion. Read up on the link I gave you above.

Gizensha: Anyone remember if Platinum Poop Snake (...yes) in Blue Dragon fits this trope?

Nooblet: Diablo II examples?
  • "Diablo II has "An Evil Spirit", which appears in Mephisto's lair in Act III. It disappears so fast that this editor is not sure if it is even possible to kill it. There's also the Dark Wanderer..."
Since they can't be killed are they actually examples of this trope? It's not that they're difficult, they literally cannot be killed. I'd suggest the Diablo clone as an example, as they are hard to kill, rarely appear and only do so under extreme circumstances and drop a remarkably powerful charm when defeated.
How about M. Slime from Breath of Fire 1 and K. Sludges from Breath of Fire 2? Do those satisfy this trope? Basically rare enemies that only exist on tiny otherwise-not-noteworthy islands in their respective games that offer large experience and gold rewards if you can defeat them. It's been a while but I believe they are both tough, high level enemies that can kill the party quickly (K. Sludges at least cast Death iirc) and have a tendency to run way after a while (not too short, at least I -think- K. Sludges tend to run away, I'm unsure)
