Noaqiyeum: Someone kindly explain how The Prestige falls under this trope. The only thing I can think of is the Tesla Duplicator, and it is absolutely central to the story, both plot-wise and theme-wise.
(Some weeks later...) Okay, no response. Removing.

Ununnilium:

  • Marvel Comics. The Juggernaut and his magical powers fighting mutants fighting aliens? And that's not counting crossover stories involving a Norse God.

This is an integral part of the Super Hero genre, though; it doesn't belong here.

Ununnilium:

  • Oh it had plenty more then that like a huge labyrinthine cave network full of white alligators In japan, a very likely case of the ghost of one of the main characters old girl friends showing up, and the entire plot of the third movie revolved around a giant monster created partially 'with the DNA of a scientist's dead little daughter... Patlabor frankly had perhaps a bit of a love affair with Magic Realism and Gene engineering which could indeed sometimes cause plots or events that seemed to clash with the overall setting.

Turn this into an actual example, instead of Conversation In The Main Page.

And then Joe Quesada said "We don't have to explain One More Day, It's magic!"

Kalaong: I think I remember a Doctor Who quote where the one of the Doctor's Berserk Buttons is not magic in general, but the word "magic". Something like, "Magic is just a lazy way of saying you don't know how something works!"
