Why is the main description completely devoid of a plot summary? Or a note on the gameplay for that matter?
I understand it's the GTA series, but it's hardly got an excuse plot...

Is it just me, or is Dmitri's betrayal of Faustin... well... understandable? Your boss is a paranoid, drug-addicted, full-on psychotic Ax Crazy whose solution to everything is bullets and bombs. You've watched him kill close associates and every act of violence brings more heat down on you. Worst of all, he's so coked up and crazy that reasoning with him is impossible. So, you can either wait for the two of you to get arrested, wait for him to snort another gram and decide you need to die next, or take him out and save yourself and the organization you've worked damn hard to build. Perfectly reasonable. His betrayal of Niko is inexcusable, yes, but his ordering Faustin's death is practically self-defense.

Is that in dispute? People might have rankled somewhat at the But Thou Must aspect of it, but if at that point in the game they'd given the player a choice between Faustin and Dmitri (as they did with the other rivalries) how many people would have sided with Faustin?

Well, perhaps not meta, but in the game world Niko and others have contempt for Dmitri for "betraying his friend". Never mind that his friend was a borderline-Complete Monster who would probably have had him killed in the near future. Naturally Niko's entitled to that after Dmitri attempts to screw HIM over, but before that, it's purely business, and even Dmitri seems to feel bad about it. It's a minor point, but it just sat badly with me. It's presented as a moment of utter bastardom by Dmitri, which it patently isn't.

Well, "logical decision" doesn't equate to "not a dick move". If the rational business decision is to kill your partner, some people would see that as a reason to get out of the business. And even if people accept your reasoning, they're never going to actively trust you if you've displayed that you'll kill a partner if it's in your interests to.

I would have thought that since Faustin was utterly out of control they'd thank Dmitri for taking him out. Killing your partner in criminal circles is one thing, but killing a demented, ultra-violent psychopath who doesn't seem to be operating in the real world anymore is almost a public service. But I take your point and yeah, who would ever 100% trust him again?

well yes, but after all Faustian had done for him he could have made some effort to take care of Faustians wife and child, instead he lets them life in a one room apartment with no money. thats justification enough for me.
