Why does this keep getting removed?
- Wu demonstrates "The Dance of the Badger-Moles", which includes him thrusting his pelvis in a rather peculiar way.
If it needs to be reworded to be more explicit okay, but I don't see how you can watch Prince Wu doing that thrusting without thinking "holy shit how did that get on a kids show?" I mean, a censor had to be looking the other way, I think.
Hide / Show RepliesSomeone has been cleaning the page, I think.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo can I edit it back in? This is at least the second time it's been wiped, I'm starting to wonder...
What is this "peculiar way"?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanEssentially he does these really strong thrusts as part of his dance, accompanied by grunts. (I tried to find a gif but most of them have been edited.) It is a really really obvious sexual gesture.
Edited by 107.139.229.30I would like to edit this back in:
- The fact that a woman is graphically suffocated on screen on what still calls itself a kid's show. The character is never actually referred to as dead, but instead described as "taken down" and other similar euphemisms. In the next episode, the actually manage to confirm that the Earth Queen is dead by having a character look at a picture of the deceased and say "Rest in Peace."
- The camera panned away right before they died so we're spared seeing a body, which is probably the only reason this got through.
The reason I and the other poster feel that this was Getting Crap Past the Radar is that the way it was handled, a younger child could simply think that the character had passed out from oxygen deprovation, and the fact that no one will say that the person is "dead" outright contributes to it.
Hide / Show RepliesLooking over it, I'll have to oppose. Getting Crap Past the Radar is not at all about what a child thinks of a scene, but what the censors think of a scene. And that looks fairly tame, really.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis is the scene, and the show is rated Y7:

With all due respect, I don't think it can be called tame.
Methinks you ought to ask here - feeling too sleepy for commentary.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIs The Reveal about Zaheer really why the show was taken off the network?
Trans rights are human rights. If you don't think that, please leave. Hide / Show RepliesThat looks completely made up from a quick Google search.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm not sure if this :
- Just what exactly is Varrick doing that is getting him an "itchy rash that won't go away"?
Varrick: "Troubling? Troubling is when I get that itchy rash that won't go away, and Zhu Li's not around to scratch it!"
is really an example. I know of a few very innocent causes of itchy rashes that won't go away, such as eczema, psoriasis, and keratosis pilaris, (that may not be immediately apparent to someone who's suffering from them). I don't know where this troper's mind was going, but mine went in a completely different direction. Is this just a YMMV thing?
About the "powdering your nose" thing. Is it really radar material? Since when is going to the bathroom radar material? It's not as if she was sitting on a toilet or something. Also, yeah, when people go to the bathroom, they urinate. That's why she went to the bathroom. I just don't really think it qualifies.
Hide / Show RepliesI find it qualifies alot more than the Innocent Cohabitation, which I view as a major stretch. Powdering One's Nose is a real, very common, English idiom. It wasn;t just making fun of the fact that she isn't girly, because NOWHERE else in the show does it make fun of that fact.
I agree that the Innocent Cohabitation isn't an example either.
My point is, that even if it was intended as a euphemism, it's still not radar material. Maybe a visual pun or something.
Also, keep in mind that she does it AFTER she washed her hands, which presumably means that she was done. And while there haven't been any other jokes about her not being girly (and thank god because having tons of jokes about her being a loltomboy might get offensive and annoying), she did have a certain awareness of it. Note how she thought Asami was all "prissy", and that they'd go shopping or something like that.
Well, if we can delete the Inocent Cohabitation and establish a line, I'd be happy with seeing the Nose-Powdering stay gone. I'm starting to get embarassed about insisting that something is visual metaphor for peeing.
I think the examples that go along the lines of "mook dies for reals" should actually go under What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?. Perhaps we could make a sub-section like we have for Does This Remind You of Anything??
Edited by SingingRain Hide / Show RepliesIf we do, lets include the WW 2 parallels, abuse, and political things.
Edited by IronAnimationWorld War II parallels would probably fit better under the Does This Remind You of Anything? (where they already are). But the abuse and political things could qualify.
WW 2 parallels etc are not Getting Crap Past the Radar. Getting Crap Past the Radar is always intentional - if it's in the eye of the viewer, it does not qualify. Political stuff also doesn't qualify for filth, at least necessarily. And (I would consider it needless to say if it weren't for the widespreadness of Radar misuse) neither does stuff that isn't really hidden in any way. Besides, there's already Does This Remind You of Anything? and Fridge Horror for more speculative or possibly non-intentional stuff.
Oh yeah, and as stated by Getting Crap Past the Radar article, the definition of "crap" varies a lot by show. In this case, war and combat are too routine to be crap anyway.
Edited by TheEvenPrimeSpeaking along the lines of What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?, I'm copying a lot of the examples about Korra on that page onto the YMMV page to compromise.
Er, scratch that. Apparently the trope has already been up in YMMV, but it was taken down.
Does this really count as Getting Crap Past the Radar? One would imagine that waking up in a slimy blob after having your spirit imprisoned would make anyone disoriented. "When Ryu is released from the spirit vines, he acts kinda out there, almost like he's high."
What about the chickens and murder?
