Besides, Laika's pretty significant, considering that dog was on board Sputnik 2, meaning modern society exists in some part due to Laika (...hey, that might in fact be suitable justification!)

Because the picture, found while quickly checking for a good page image from Wikipedia amongst "Famous dogs", looked cool. Seriously.
