I agree that Gil's hat should be the trope picture. I mean, it's even referred to in-story as "Nice Hat," though with a Jager accent.
We could argue for ages about pictures of nice hats... what would be really good is a picture of several people in different cool hats, or one guy wearing various costumes each featuring awesome headgear.
MAKE THE COURTYARD DROLL FROM HOMESTUCK THE PAGE ICON! (his hat is twice as tall as his body)
Bah! That hat is hat-heresy! The Final Fantasy Red Mage Pimp Hat should be up here! ... Though Gil's hat would be the ultimate comedic example. Oh, and the TF 2 stack of hats. Though Gil's is more over-the-top.
Edited by Inferno232No matter what I really dont like the example that's here now. It's not very cool at all.
Only one way to settle this- a crowner!
Adding this to Image Pickin' for more exposure.
Edited by SomeGuy See you in the discussion pages. As the note in the page mark-up says, discussion of changing this image should go to Image Pickin'. The crowner is hooked there. However, this has been brought up at least four times before and Hecate has won every time.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Yes, and now that we have a record of these facts for everyone to see, all is right in the world.
Edited by SomeGuy See you in the discussion pages.I personally think
Would be a better image for this page. We have an anime subpage, and putting an anime image anywhere else makes us look like a bunch of weaboos. I'm hungry. -Shakespeare (I'm sure he said that at some point in his life)I find that a silly image rather than an awesome hat like the current, though you are of course free to start another IP thread. The current has also been admin-approved.
Edited by Telcontar That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. This trope needs some serious repair. Right now, it just gets potholed as a way of saying "someone wears a hat". I don't think it even really is a trope— that is, a storytelling or narrative convention— in its current form, so it should be either split or renamed.
Here are two ideas I had for more specific versions, which I think it could be split into.
Signature Headgear: A character has a hat they are always associated with, and rarely seen without.
Excessively Extravagant Hat: A hat that is ridiculously, obviously, over-the-top in design, much more than would be practical in real life.
Edited by ElSquibbonatorIt's interesting that we don't have a trope for top hats as such, or are they just subsumed under High-Class Glass?
Per TRS, this is now a disambiguation page.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. How nice should the hat be in order to be this trope? I'm getting a feeling that this is used for any hat, including plain old ones that should've been an aversion (according to the Playing With sub-page).
This isn't a trope. In practice, it is potholed any time a hat of any kind is mentioned in any context.
A trope about someone having a signature hat would be sensible, though it would be subject to the same kind of abuse. But this trope, a character simply having a hat that someone likes, is absolutely not tropeworthy.
Like the previous two topics say, what exactly is the point of this trope? It seems like a huge case of People Sit On Chairs.
DO NOT MATRIX WITH STEREOIs this really Tropeworthy? Based on the examples, it seems to just be "a character wearing a hat", and the description isn't really making it any clearer.
What, exactly, is this trope about? A character who wears a hat that members of the audience like? (If so, shouldn't this be Sugar Wiki?) Or have I missed the point? The trope description is close to null.
I humbly propose that we change the title of this page to "Hats Entertainment."
Lineage 2 charecters have plenty nice hats. http://s 017.radikal.ru/i424/1110/3f/81dc36ffd82d.jpg
Edited by FridI don't see any reason why the page can't have one quote.
