No idea. I'm always disappointed that there are never any examples present when I visit this trope.
The whole point of examples is to demonstrate the trope. This is already done in our small list.
This isn't a trope for everything that makes sense in context. It's just a page to explain what we mean when we use this phrase.
Everyone Has An Important Job To DoIf you want a very quick rundown of how this trope came to be, it was originally proposed as a better formed version of the (Now Defunct) I Am Not Making This Up, where something seems odd if you just came into the story but does in fact make sense given the context. It was eventually modified to become a predefined message emphasizing the fact that you can't always explain the context of something without bloating the example by a factor of three. Being a predefined message, that means it is a verbal shorthand to describe something and is not a trope in and of itself.
I agree with the person from seven years ago. If it's not a trope, it shouldn't appear in the Random Trope selection, which is how I primarily browse the site. It's disappointing to arrive at a page and think "Oh, here's going to be a list of fun examples of this trope" but then I scroll down and there are no examples at all. Maybe changing it to an Administrivia page would make sense, if it's just there to explain how the site works. But I don't know how these things go.
Does anybody else think that this trope encourages Zero Context Examples?
Hide / Show RepliesI do.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhy was the page image changed back?
One does not shake the box containing the sticky notes of doom! Hide / Show RepliesI'm guessing: Because we don't like unilateral image changes?
I can't find any image removal in the history. Maybe I am just sleepy.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, in that case, how does one start an image picking discussion?
One does not shake the box containing the sticky notes of doom!Head to the Image Picking forum and start a thread on this page. Remember to give a good reason for making a thread.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe thingy's not open: I have some image suggestions: the last panel of this◊, maybe this◊ or any other clip from that music video, a still of Dianna Agron in Just Another Girl or The Killers Spaceman, and I seem to recall a Warm Bodies interview in which Teresa Palmer was asked if she liked the interviewer's boobs, and Nicholas Hoult had to interrupt the discussion to give it some context (apparently it's a thing in the film, of course the interviewer had seen the film but it the clip was released before the film premiered), so maybe a still of him interrupting or the question being asked?
Edit: or this◊, part of this◊, or maybe a shot from◊ Ted?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhat is the context for deadpool trying to to stop santa?
Hide / Show RepliesThere actually isn't any. All you get is him saying, "It was a routine assignment."
Can't we find an image that actually does make sense in context?
One does not shake the box containing the sticky notes of doom! That is more an example of It Makes As Much Sense In Context, but just because this picture has no context doesn't mean it isn't a good visual guide.
Don't make me destroy you. @ Castle SeriesMaybe something from El Goonish Shive, like female!Tedd in a dress saying "I don't crossdress in women's clothing" or Elliot's "I'm too young and too male to be the mother of a 17-year-old female me!"
Get the pic, upload, then show us in a link.

Not bad, but I think one of the other three would be better.

And since my unilateral change got reverted, maybe a vote or something?
Edited by 216.99.32.44That's pretty good! I say we use this one.

I should probably stop posting these.
Changed the page image. I dare anyone to tell me that the old one was superior.
See you in the discussion pages. Hide / Show RepliesThe old one looks more like Accidental Innuendo to me.
Edited by 216.99.32.44 One does not shake the box containing the sticky notes of doom!I don't know if these count, but maybe an upcoming scene in a fanfic where one kid trolls a supernatural killer as part of a kind of Batman Gambit counts.
Hide / Show RepliesI just added some spoiler-tagged explanations to some of the entries on the quotes page. Leaving the context up to imagination is one thing, but there must be people who are wondering who the actual context is and aren't willing to do three hours of searching to find out.
I didn't do all of them because I didn't know all of them.
That's me.
Why is it suggested that there should be no examples for this trope?
