"The Bible: Jesus. When a group of Smug Snakes brought an adulteress to Him, telling Him that she should be stoned for committing the sin of adultery, He answered by writing something in the sand. And don't even get started on the parables. Justified, however, in that He wasn't actually weird or insane, he was just a Cloud Cuckoo Lander in that He had a 'non-standard perspective on life', as the 'Playing With' page for this trope says. He is believed by many to be God in Human Form, so the things he said and did would seem odd to us humans." I move for removal. Even stated as it is without context (that the accusers all left, presumably when they saw what he was writing), it just doesn't sound very crazy.
God is God of truth, and thus of current webcomic example links. See also: Grammar Nazi Hedge TrimmerIt is right here, what do you think is wrong with it?
Edited by jormis29I just added it back in yesterday. Someone deleted it for some reason.
I've suspended the editor who removed it. Can't find any support for its removal, either.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI vote for Walter Bishop as the most triumphant example.
I mean, seriously, the guy's catchphrase is : let's make some LSD!
What the hell does Cloudcuckoolander mean? Where does it come from? And why is it so damn hard to spell?
Hide / Show RepliesIt means 'person from/in/belongs in cloud-cuckoo land'. Cloud-cuckoo land 'refers to an unrealistically idealistic state where everything is perfect. ("You're living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, mate.") It hints that the person referred to is naïve, unaware of reality or deranged in holding such an optimistic belief.' (from Wikipedia).
I'm not sure where it comes from, but where I come from it's a universally understood expression.
It's easy to spell if you break it down into its component words: cloud, as in fluffy thing in the sky; cuckoo, as in the bird; land, as in country; -er, as in 'person from/of _'.
Edited by CarrieVSI know there have been a lot of trope name changes since naming after a specific character or place in a video game is a no no due to the esoteric nature of it all, but I think that if there's ever a plan for this one, Cloudcuckooland should stay, because even if someone didn't play Banjo-Tooie, the name itself gives enough of a picture of someone who's so insane their head is always in the clouds that it gives a perfect picture as is.
Can't we replace that Obscure Anime #213 girl with someone more known like GIR or Ed? Or is she REALLY the Most Triumphant Example?
Hide / Show RepliesThe picture works well already. She really is the Most Triumphant Example, at least close to it.
I liked it more when Homsar was the page image
I can't stop listening to thisI really can't tell Homsar is a Cloud Cuckoo Lander from that image. Sorry. I've never watched/read Homestar Runner, so I'm kinda clueless here.
Edited by NatTheWriterIt doesn't matter if you don't know who that girl is, or how much you hate animes. The picture describe this trope perfectly, with the other characters on top of her head and her silly looking face. Everyone will get the basic idea of this trope.
You know, there's this one thing I really want to know now:
Is it Cloud Cuckoolander, Cloud Cuckoo Lander, or Cloudcuckoolander?
I have absolutely no idea - and I've seen all variations on This Very Wiki, so I'm definitely not the only confused one here ^^
Hide / Show RepliesJudging by its index listings and the related Cloudcuckooland trope, it's Cloudcuckoolander with no spaces.
Is ist just me or are the examples within the main trope text rather silly? Like "A Cloudcuckoolander sees no problem with using a communal shower as their method of hygiene if they lack another method". So tell me, what would a "normal" person do when they lack any method of hygiene other than a communal shower? And, what do you think happens to the clothes of dead people? Why would one not wear them?
Does a character qualify for Cloud Cuckoo Lander status if their oddness is attributed to drink rather than insanity?
Hide / Show RepliesDepends. Is there a real chance of their being seen sober? Or serious-drunk?
There is a fine line between recklessness and courage — Paul McCartneyI think the Bottle Fairy trope might apply better to that situation.
Trump delenda estso does Luna Lovegood fit here or not? because she's obviously smart enough to get into Ravenclaw, and she's very perceptive... but there's no saying she's not a tad Loony...
Hide / Show RepliesYes. The trope isn't about smarts or perception, but whether or the character has their head in the clouds.
See you in the discussion pages.Considering she's in pantheon of gods under cloudcuckoolander I find it strange she's not on the list.
Edit: Never mind. I see someone added her since the last time I checked the list.
Edited by jateMikey and Don can be a cloudcuckoolander, but Mikey mostly he got lots of imagation, Don only a bit of these when comes to techology and science he totally flips over in 2003 cartoon, and Mikey in all versions!
