In many of the other wikis, such as Wikipedia (multiple languages) and the Super Mario Wiki, the franchise page is "Mario (franchise)". Here are two examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_(franchise) https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_(franchise)
Shouldn't the name for this page be "Mario (franchise)" as well? If not, why is the name for this page remained that way? It's not like the first game that become popular dictated the page's name, given how Kirby isn't called "Kirby in Dreamland (franchise)".
Hide / Show RepliesThis has been discussed several times before. There was even a TRS thread proposing a name change, but was unsuccesful. Also, with 7258 wicks and 58562 inbounds, renaming is just not plausible. It's best to just leave it be per Grandfather Clause. If there was a time when this could be renamed, it should have happened many years ago (probably before the 2008 crash).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Rip Bro. This franchise won't exist soon. It gets erased from existence on the 31st
Edited by ThrowMoreGrenades "Remember Guardian, Throw More Grenades"Pretty minor all things considered, but looking at the Wikipedia page, Nintendo's website, and the game names themselves, shouldn't this page be called "Franchise / Super Mario" rather than "Franchise / Super Mario Bros."?
Besides the NSMB games, the "Bros." part of the name hasn't been used for 30 years.
Hide / Show RepliesProblem is, there are various non-platform games whose name start with "Super Mario" (Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Strikers, Super Mario Sluggers). The Bros. is kept because, at least in this wiki, the platformer lineage has been historically considered to be the parent side of the whole franchise. Besides, the monstrously huge amount of links and inbounds we'd have to change just to drop the Bros. moniker would take too much effort for it to be worth.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I don't think that first problem is necessarily valid. The main pages for those subseries don't use the "Super Mario" name (Mario Kart, Mario Strikers, Mario Super Sluggers). It seems like nowadays Nintendo avoids using the Super Mario name unless it's a platformer.
Of course, the number of wicks and inbounds is a problem.
Edited by UnknownlightAgreed, this is equivalent to categorizing all Mega Man platformers in the "Classic Mega Man" series. "Super Mario Bros." is just a subseries within the mainline Mario series, encompassing most (but not all) 2d Marios. It also includes other, separate subseries, such as Mario Land, Mario Galaxy, and the 3D Land/World series. And the first 2d Mario platformers (Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.) weren't even part of the SMB subseries.
I also agree. Having just "Super Mario" as the name of the franchise page makes more sense to me, and seems more all-encompassing. I don't know enough about how the wiki works to know how to rename it, though.
Okay who put a bunch of random examples of decompisite character under Darker and Edgier?
I AM YOUR KING!!!! Hide / Show RepliesYou can find out by viewing the page's history. I can only tell you I wasn't the one who did it.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Super Mario 3D Land really probably should be listed with the Land series. Not only is there the obvious naming fact, but it doesn't follow the same setup as the other 3D games. The levels are said to be significantly more linear than other 3D games, being directly compared to the 2D outings, the goal is to get to the end of the level, instead of collecting Stars/Shines, powerups come back and resemble the 2D games, there's no health meter, instead using "If you're big and you get hit you shrink, if you're already small you die"... just like the 2D games. What I'm getting at is, which is shares a dimension with SM 64, is clearly does NOT draw from that games playstyle, and is clearly NOT 'descended' from it, and should not be listed alongside the games that are. Rather, it should be grouped with games like Mario Bros 3, which it clearly draws the most from, or.. the Land games, which it shares a name with.
Edited by Joshi Hide / Show RepliesSuper Mario 3D Land is a 3D game, not a 2D game. Unless you want to throw people off and tell people it's a 2D game or make a sub folder holding the Super Mario Land series, it's better that it's in it's rightful place. Or even better, keep it both in the "2D/2.5" folder and the "Super Mario Land" folder.
Edited by DonnyKDSuper Mario 3 D Land is most definitely NOT a 2D game. The official definition of a 2D game is that you can only go up, down, left, or right. Super Mario 3 D Land may have linear level structure, but it still has the full range of motion of Super Mario 64.
By the current logic of 3D Land's placement, Super Mario Galaxy and 2 should be in the 2D folder, since their levels are similarly linear.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I'm not sure at which point I claimed it was a 2D game. I said it was a "Land" game, which as you can clearly see, is not part of the vanilla "2D" list, they are also separated from that list by the 3D titles.
You're also COMPLETELY ignoring every point I actually made in favour of something I didn't say.
Again: Super Mario 3D Land draws more from the 2D games both in execution (health system and powerups) and level design than the 3D games do. Galaxy 1 and 2 both feature some degree of linearity, but all reports indicate that 3D is even moreso, and either way Galaxy still obviously PLAYS more like Super Mario 64 than anything else.
But no, okay, continue to ignore what I said in favour of something I didn't.
We get what YOU are saying. You don't get what WE are saying.
The games plays in 3D. It's a 3D GAME.
It is also part of the LAND series, as it's an original Mario platformer on a handheld, and it has LAND in the name.
Personally, I think the Land folder should be removed and the games within should be moved to the 2D and 3D folders. Wario Land and 3D Land are related to Land 1 and Land 2 In Name Only, and Wario Land is an especially awkward case since it's the start of a completely different series. 3D Land is far more closely related to the Galaxy games in terms of gameplay.
NO,JUST FUCKING NO,3D Land's gameplay isn't even related to Galxay's In-Name-Only,it's closest to the New Super Mario Bros series.
I AM YOUR KING!!!!Gooper Blooper's been getting an expanded role almost as much as Petey now. Not quite as much, but definitely more than the other Sunshine bosses. Should he have his own tab on the Bowser/Baddies character page just like Petey?
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!" Hide / Show RepliesMario and Luigi were certainly never "badass normals",yay they were certainly closer to human power levels in Donkey Kong,Donkey Kong Jr and Mario Bros, but those are A)Barely"canon" in a mostly Broad Strokes way and B) just plain outdated.
I AM YOUR KING!!!! Hide / Show RepliesAnd it doesn't apply to most games anyway, as they do have unique traits in many titles (particularly in multiplayer).
Then again, the word "badass" has been misused to the point of the wiki sectionectomizing Badass itself, so....
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Shouldn't the WMG page and its entries be split into different topics?
Here's an example:
- Character Trait Guesses
- Setting Guesses
- New Game Predictions
- Etc.
This is just a suggestion as to maybe clean the WMG page up and make the guesses more easily accessible and sortable. It would be like on the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic WMG page where they have THEIR guesses neatly sorted.
Peach Lover 94 It's a far, far better thing that I do than I have ever done. A far better resting place that I go to, than I've ever known.Should we put the list of games in a floatbox? The list is very large and somewhat intrusive to the article itself. I mean, Pokémon and Sonic both have floatboxes.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. Hide / Show RepliesJuly 9, 1981 Is when Donkey Kong was released. It is March 19, 2013 tomorrow. Which means it is been out (if 12 AM to 12 AM) for 31 years and 253 days. If you were old enough to play that game when it came out (say, age 8), then you are almost 40-years-old. If you write it in another way it's been out for 11,203 days. Or 268,872 hours. OR 16,132,320 minutes! OR 967,939,200 seconds. Feel old yet? By the way, if you were 8 when it came out, then I'm half you age and can drink alcohol (if I was in Canada) and have been able to for a year and 51 days. Or 416 days...

Don't make me destroy you. @ Castle SeriesWhat happened to the Nightmare fuel page? Did somebody delete it? And why the hell would they do that?!
Does anyone else think that the four Mario Brothers make a Four Temperament Ensemble? You've got Luigi (Sanguine), Wario (Choleric), Waluigi (Melancholic) and Mario (Phlegmatic).
Hurry up and make a page for Super Mario 3DS already!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMWhy had the title been changed to all caps and one word? It's pretty dang ugly.
Not many people realize, 50 Cent is half man, half cossack. - Ross Noble Hide / Show RepliesThat's just the way the Wiki Words work on this wiki if you capitalize every letter of every word. Or, you may have gotten here from Google, which sometimes capitalizes every letter when you come here.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I know this is a very minor change, but can we change the title to Super Mario Bros. (notice the period at the end)? I mean, the official title of the series has a period at the end of "Bros".
No need for this now.
