Nope, I don't think the jerkass aspects of Touhou characters have been exaggerated. On the contrary, some characters, thanks to Character Development, have improved considerably, like Reimu, and others have been downplayed, like Byakuren (she's a rather competent person in the fic, while in canon Byakuren is an incompetent leader).
The problem is that almost every character in Touhou canon is a jerkass, they show more flaws than qualities. Touhou is more related to Ed Edd And Eddy than Mass Effect, in a fantastic setting, but I consider that those kind of media works better with smaller casts than a 130+ cast. This is something so prevalent that I've seriously considered abandoning the fandom because of this. I guess IM explores this white elephant of the canon to its logical consequences of having a truly serious threat, thus the deconstruction.

I'm not sure what trope there is for this, it's probably much more likely to be a trivia thing, but in the form of inspiration all the way into Chapter 42, the author finally realizes what his subconcious is telling him about the inspiration used for his original interpretation of one of the major villains in the story.

Okay, I've read 30 chapters of this so far. It's really long. o.O
Anyways, I find it kind of surprising that this is considered a Dark Fic, yet there isn't a Nightmare Fuel page added yet. What's up with that? :p Although I have to admit, nothing in particular has been THAT creepy yet for the most part.
Still, there's one thing that kind of stands out so far with one of the major villains...
Yuuka's Kick the Dog moment with Flandre by disguising her voice as her sister Remilia and driving a stake to her heart while also mocking the weaknesses of vampires after noting their high sense of strength, among other things. She seems to get a sick kick out of irony... Also, I think she's practically the Touhou version of Nyarlathotep. o.O Seriously, we got things like [[spoiler: fallen angels such as Azrael here, she's already been described as an Eldritch Abomination, she can at least disguise her voice to anyone she wants, and while she loves Chaos a lot more than Law, she seems willing to use any of them to her advantage, firmly making her Neutral Evil. :O If there's Fan Fic folders in the Character Alignment pages, I'm adding that there. :p

Oh yeah, there was the arc with Rumia's memories too, like Chapter 16-18. That was sort of creepy too, but most of it was somewhat expected. Still... some of that was just a little nuts... o.O

I tried to add a few more tropes to this if that's okay, such as Motor Mouth and Can'tHoldHisLiquor for Chen during some moments, and Jerkass Has a Point for Tenshi.
Oh yeah! There's another one I wanted to add for, well... Yuuka, if it isn't added already.
I hope that's okay. ^^; Well, I guess someone could remove them if it's inaccurate... :( I'm not used to editing stuff and having the possibility of removing other people's stuff (not like I would do that, just saying it's a lot of responsibility. ^^;) and so on.

Anyways, I've read 19 chapters so far and I've seen some typos here and there I wish I could correct. :p Their bothering me a bit... Oh well. ^^;

It may be a bit minor, but how come nobody mentioned Chapter 9 with Reimu and Genji having both a Crowning Moment Of Funny and a Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming?
Before Genji starts taking Reimu's talk about having a bad day seriously, he starts making all of these jokes about some of Reimu's friends, but then he says stuff like all of the shrine maidens before Reimu had bad days but they kept on fighting anyway, and even if she's kind of "lazy", she's still tough. XD
That made Reimu happy saying something like "How do you always know how to cheer me up?" I thought it was kind of cute. ^^;
Anyways, the funny part comes from when Reimu says she can't sleep and decides to have someone to talk to like Genji, Genji is all like "Why, that oni friend (Sukia) of yours won't stop farting?" XD
LOL. I bet alcoholic farts wouldn't smell very good. ^^; Um... yeah. XD
Maybe I'll put those examples in there myself later. :p

Here's something that's been bugging me for a long time:
- Gone Horribly Wrong: Rin Satsuki is full of this. You can thank Eirin.
- Most of what Eirin has done as seen by herself. The Hourai Elixer wasn't supposed to give complete immortality, but make the user immune to disease and age. A defense program that she was involved in while still on the moon created a nearly indestructable monster that got loose and breeds too fast for it to be wiped out completely. Kaguya, upon drinking the Hourai Elixer, was supposed to bring fame and fortune to both herself and Eirin, but instead was disowned and banished to Earth because if it. Rin Satsuki is just the latest on a long list.
When and where was it ever mentioned in IM that the Hourai Elixir was not supposed to grant absolute immortality? I've read all the chapters of both IM and Ro SD, but nowhere have I found any mention of this. As far as I've seen, the Hourai Elixir was always meant to grant perfect immortality. I however did not read the Christmas spin-off, though it seems unlikely something about the elixir would be in there. I would greatly appreciate it if someone informed me when/where this little tidbit was mentioned. If it truly never appears in any of the chapters I will have to remove this part of the entry.

I was confused about that as well, as I never said anything down those lines. Also, it mentions that the velmick bred too fast, whereas the story makes it clear that they breed fairly slowly. So yeah, that whole part had me scratching my head.

About this trope : Superpowered Evil Side At first, it seems to be played straight, but isn't it in reality a subversion ? Ex-Rumia is Rumia's Persona who has remain her memories from before Yukari's Laser Guided Amnesia : there are the same person, just that Rumia doesn't have her hypothetic traumatic past and so have kinda 'regain' her ancient original Persona ?

I should have said this a long time ago, but as much as I'm happy to add in a bunch of new tropes which I think were good, the Jerkass Woobie thing in the YMMV tab probably should be taken out. :( Well, I guess it's not completely unreasonable, but yeah, I'm sorry. >_<

Also, I don't mean to be rude, but it is a trope after all...
Because of the whole Took a Level in Jerkass thing, do you guys think the negative aspects of the characters have been exaggerated on? Sometimes all of the arguing and bitching in the story is more annoying than entertaining for me. :p But there are some nice concepts throw in. I mean, like, is there Flanderization?
Also, I think Byakuren and Reisen should possibly be added in as Nice Girls. They seem like some of the only genuinely nice people in the story. :p Also, Rin seems kind of nice but... she really does seem crazier than she thinks she is, poor girl. :(
