I'm totally new here and don't know how to do anything BUT at today's E3, one of the first things Kojima said was "I'M BACK!" I know that's a trope.

Okay, so I'm all for fans getting involved in pages for their favorite thing, but this "damasch" guy is giving the article an injection of Fan Dumb. Here's a few excerpts from his edits:

  • "Then again, viewers are morons and when he gives interviews, he is mainly asked about graphics and gameplay-mechanics because his storylines are way too complex for the average video-game playing Manchild to follow."

  • "removed ** on "titties", Kojima only includes sexualized female characters to appeal to the stupid average gamer"

Not to mention he rewrote the entire description to include several more paragraphs going into unnecessary detail about how amazing and deep Kojima's games are. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the guy too, but this is just dumb.

This may be a case for Ask The Tropers, myself.

First of all,

I think that the article should give brief examples for the elements of magical realism featured in Metal Gear (Mantis, Vamp, The Sorrow etc.)

Secondly, examples on why his games are philosophical / intellectual / whatever you want to call it, should be provided as the term"philosophical" is seriously overused nowadays and therefore has lost meaning. What I included isn't even exaggerated as all the topics are in there.

Thirdly, I think the surprise-section should rather reference the MGS 1-trailers than the MGS 2-ones because Raiden's existance is supposed to be a twist and twists are not supposed to be revealed because then they lose their element of surprise.

Fourthly, while the Viewers Are Morons-trope is definitely insulting, I think it's fitting to certain degree at least. The scene Kojima usually gets the most praise for by gaming-"journalists" is having the player switch controller-ports when fighting Mantis in MGS 1. It's just a dumb little gimmick, but it's popular because it is easy to understand (in contrast to basically everything else in the Metal Gear Series).

Fifthly, of course Kojima might include the oversexualized female characters because he finds them sexy / cool / whatever, but I really do think he does them to appeal to stupid people, simply because women in video-games are generally portrayed as sex-dolls so the average moron has something to drool over. If I were female, this would annoy me even more than it actually does. In a sense it's the same with Volgin and Skull Face, being disfigured / ugly is considered cool nowadays.

You should be reading this, especially points # 4 and 3. http://www.cracked.com/article_18571_5-reasons-its-still-not-cool-to-admit-youre-gamer.html

"It's insulting, but it's fitting because they really are morons." is not a good argument.

You're really not going to get anywhere but suspended by insisting you're right for calling people morons.

  • "Thirdly, I think the surprise-section should rather reference the MGS 1-trailers than the MGS 2-ones because Raiden's existance is supposed to be a twist and twists are not supposed to be revealed because then they lose their element of surprise."

As I said in the edit summary reverting it, Raiden being the protagonist is It Was His Sled territory at this point. If the game had come out last year, and the twist wasn't something so integral to the game's plot, then I'd agree with you - but it's a fourteen year old game, this plot twist occurs in the first 30 minutes to an hour of a 10+ hour game, and most people familiar with the series will invariably know the game as "the one where you don't play as Solid Snake." Not even This Very Wiki attempts to hide it on the main page for the game.

  • "Fourthly, while the Viewers Are Morons-trope is definitely insulting, I think it's fitting to certain degree at least."

What MrDeath said. The fact of the matter is that you're letting your opinion about people who don't like the games get in the way of objectively describing them.

  • "The scene Kojima usually gets the most praise for by gaming-"journalists" is having the player switch controller-ports when fighting Mantis in MGS 1. It's just a dumb little gimmick, but it's popular because it is easy to understand (in contrast to basically everything else in the Metal Gear Series)"

Source? Just because that's the first thing most people think of doesn't mean that it's the only part of the series anyone "gets". Part of why your edits really bother me is your vaguely elitist insinuation that anyone who doesn't like his games, or who doesn't find the overt commentary and stuff interesting, is simply a moronic manchild (your words, not mine) who doesn't "get it."

  • "but I really do think he does them to appeal to stupid people, simply because women in video-games are generally portrayed as sex-dolls so the average moron has something to drool over"

Again, source? All of this so far is just your opinion, not objective fact. Unless you yourself have evidence that the only reason Kojima includes scantily-clad babes in every game he's made since the 80's is to appeal to gaming Dude-Bros, then it belongs on the page.

And Cracked is a terrible website and a terrible source, and even if it wasn't, that article is nothing but preaching about how gamers are terrible. It has nothing to do with what we're talking about, which is you making massive changes to this article to remove anything negative.

The page quote was changed a little bit for the HD collection to "70% of my existence is made of movies. It is up to you to decide what to do with the remaining 30%."

Should we update said quote?

Eh... I don't think it's necessary.

To answer the troper who said:"I don't know where to put this, so I'll ask here. Why does Hideo Kojima bitch about "having" to make sequals to MGS, to the point where he first responded with a massive You Suck characther, and repetive insults to the player, then after he works hard to say OK THIS SERIES IS NOW OVER, hes goes an whores himself for a 5th game?" 1.If you loosen things a bit(a lot) that counts as a sort of trailer and you know how he's about that. 2.Hideo Kojima is big on Mind Screws.
