Ask the Tropers:
resolved Trope Overdosed potholes
I noticed several of the subpages for Atop the Fourth Wall had seemingly irrelevant potholes to the main work page, which I removed. Looking deeper, I found that this was apparently done to inflate its wick count so that it would qualify for Trope Overdosed. I noticed that adding potholes seemingly for this purpose was also done recently for others works like The Incredibles. Is there a policy on this?
Edited by costanton11openCut List Error Film
So I was putting Nightmare Fuel page of The Company of Wolves on the cut list and see the Recent cut page. It says Article was cut but somehow the page is still here. I tried to put it the cut list to fix it (I've make sure I put correct spelling of the namespace and movie name) but it didn't work. Should I go to bug report?
openUnnecessary page split
LogoJoke.Dream Works SKG only has six examples. Could it be merged with LogoJoke.Dream Works Animation to just be LogoJoke.Dream Works?
Edited by mightymewtronopenOttoman Empire redirected to Turks with Troops
Gonna ask, why is the Ottoman Empire redirected to UsefulNotes.Turks With Troops?
openCopying some tropes to another work page.
There are some tropes from the comic book series Miles Morales Spider Man which I think should also go on to the character's page Miles Morales, like Characterization Marches On, Comes Great Responsibility, Nice Guy, Thou Shalt Not Kill, etc. Can I simply just copy and paste them from the comic book's page to Miles' page as they are perfect applicable to him?
Edited by gothamarkhamlordopenChanging Page Pics, Ignoring Commented-Out Notes
I noticed that ~Yasmine 612 has been changing page pictures on pages. Most recently:
- Potty Failure (where they replaced the current pic from The Simpsons then put it back, ignoring a note that the picture was selected in Image Pickin)
- Future Me Scares Me (replacing an existing pic from General Protection Fault with one from The Simpsons, ignoring a note that the picture was selected in Image Pickin)
- FunnyAneurysmMoment. The Simpsons: Added a picture (deleting a note that the picture was pulled per Image Pickin)
I'm sending an Image Changes notifier for FunnyAneurysmMoment. The Simpsons after I finish posting this so I can point them to the thread. I've also corrected the Image Pickin violations.

Edited by sgamer82openOnly list on country-specific indexes? Videogame
For tropes, we're only supposed to list the most appropriate subtrope and not supertropes, ditto for genre indexes. Is the same also true for country-specific indexes?
For example, I just created Creator.Vicarious Visions and immediately indexed it on Video Game Companies, but a little bit later I found American Video Game Companies and then listed it there. Should I remove it from Video Game Companies?
openA question about Zero Context Examples
I don't like Zero Context Examples anymore than you do. But what if there really isn't much to say?
For instance, A Guy has been cracking down on ZCEs for Signature Song, since the examples just say the name of the work and the most popular song from it. But in this case, what else is there to say? Does every single example need to say something along the lines of "This song is the most popular song of this media"? Won't that get repetitive after a while? I'm pretty sure just listing the name of the work and the song title tells the audience everything they need to know. (Namely that the song is the most popular song associated with the work.)
openImage Links page for Breast Expansion
domino710 created ImageLinks.Breast Expansion. Is this allowed due to the potential for NSFW images? The sole image is supposed to link here, FYI. If it's allowed to stay, I could add suggestions from the previous Image Pickin' threads.
openEdit war about Ultimate Punisher
The character page for the comic book "The Ultimates" here has an entry about Punisher. There was an entry that said "This version of the Punisher doesn't have any of his 616 counterpart's self-control and moral compass, which leads to him being constantly at odds with the Ultimates and Spider-Man." It was added by Good Gamer 14 as Anti-Villain, and then changed by Chrononaut 70 to Adaptational Villainy.
I removed it as misuse. The Punisher has been changed very little (if at all) between original and adaptation. In both cases we talk about a cold and stoic vigilante that kills petty criminals with no remorse and with extreme prejudice. The only "self-control" and "moral compass" is that he only kills criminals and not innocent people; again, that is true to both versions. Still, this put him at odds with heroes with a Thou Shalt Not Kill code... again, in both versions.
Good Gamer 14 added it again, this time saying this: "This Punisher is way more insane than his 616 counterpart, with him being introduced as a raving psycho during Ultimate Spider-Man. This became more notable when he killed his 616 counterpart during Secret Wars (2015)." Oh, that changes everything! Ultimate Punisher killed the Punisher of another universe! But wait... the original killed three knock-offs of himself in Welcome Back, Frank, and recently tried to kill the Cosmic Ghost Rider (a Frank Castle of another timeline, who was turned into a Ghost Rider, an herald of Galactus and a servant of Thanos and loads of other crazy stuff) when he knew that there was another Frank Castle in town. I would say "again, in both versions", but it's getting repetitive.
openDoes this qualify as a TropeBreaker Film
Upon rewatching The Mist, I've realised something. The entire premise of the evil cult that forms through the story and preaching of their leader hinge almost entirely on the fact the story is set in place with Protestant majority and the concept of predestination is not only a tenant, but actively used, both for the story itself and the in-story cult. If the story was set in any other background, the entire premise of the cult as "God will only save a handful of chosen ones, and everyone not worthy will go straight to hell, so prove your worth" falls flat on its face, because it just won't work out if you don't, say, have the story set in Maine.
But does it qualify if the location or social background of the story was changed as a Trope Breaker? I was thinking about this exact same story playing out in my own country, which is Catholic, and the type of person that's best described as a local equivalent of a fundie. And they would preach completely different things - assuming they wouldn't just blame it on Jews, then simply pray in the corner to pass time, which would be far more likely than anything else.
openCreator page headache Literature
Hi, I'm trying to make a Creator page for the author Karen M. McManus. Because of the punctuation and code features needed to make her name appear properly, I'm having trouble figuring out how to type the link. Any help would be appreciated!
openEdit warring on YMMV/YashahimePrincessHalfDemon
Lancelot 07 has been making a ton of negative entries about the Sesshomaru/Rin romance in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. As it's extremely controversial, that's fair enough, but they keep on insisting that a fan-made timeline that uses age estimates as fact to prove that he's a pedo is canon. They keep readding references to it even after I and another troper have tried to remove them for being speculative Fanon.
Edited by IniuriaTalisopenDarkness-Induced Audience Apathy in Akame Ga Kill Anime
I take issue with the Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy in the YMMV page of Akame ga Kill! (the anime adaptation, not the original manga). The only argument for DIAA is: "Just like with the manga, for much the same reasons."
I haven't read the manga, so I can't comment on it, but I thought that DIAA only applies when both sides involved in the main conflict are equally unlikeable or when the heroes' efforts ultimately amount to nothing and the universe still sucks. If the story features clearly defined heroes and villains (even though the show is about morally grey assassins) and the ending delivers a positive outcome, then it doesn't qualify. If people are complaining about the overall darkness in the show, then Angst Aversion might be the better fit. So, what do you think?
openDo we really need a "Full Cast" section for MCU films? Film
Troper The Extractor has taken to unilaterally adding a section to all the MCU films called "Full Cast" containing a list of the actor and the character they play.
First off it's not really a "full cast" but more a "main cast" list and second do we really such thing?
It's going to make the MCU films formatted differently than other films and there's already a really good website getting full cast/crew info called IMDB.
Edited by rva98014open TLP needs an early discard
Just requesting a mod discard this draft. It's pretty much just an empty draft that was intended to be for a work, but said work was already given a page, and the sponsor has no reason to come back to it. It's also steadily collecting a lot of bombs, which is pretty unnecessary seeing as there are no hats.
opencat ballou
the description for Film.Cat Ballou is taken almost word for word from the wikipedia summary, is that allowed? also, since is from the wikipedia plot synopsis, it tells the entire plot including the ending.
Edited by Tremmor19openVoyager has a complaining problem
So, Star Trek: Voyager has a bit of a complaining problem on its subpages. Fridge.Star Trek Voyager is a biggie, and I've seen a bit on Headscratchers.Star Trek Voyager Characters. I asked on the complaining cleanup thread, but no one replied.
1. is it allowed to add an image to a page with no image without asking in the forum?
2. is it allowed to edit an image from someone else's work? (in this case, i want to move around word bubbles to fit the trope into 2 panels instead of three)
thank you
