Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I would appreciate some to clean up that trope, although I don't have an answer to your specific question.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaI've seen people use it as a way to shoehorn in ideas that the character "might have this disorder based on this trait", even if in some cases its not really true. Like for example "this character is excitable and skittish and has trouble talking to people so they must have ADHD" when its just how the character is.
A clean up would work well.
Muramasa got.It is a regular offender. I cleaned it up more than once, so have others. Just nothing seems to stop the abuse of the trope. It always ends up back here. I think we're at the point where I would respectfully request the Mod team consider just nuking it and adding it to the Permanent Red Link Club.
^ Some characters do have ambiguous disorders, however. It's just the trope is so easy to misuse, especially when it comes to headcanons. Same with Ambiguously Gay, Ambiguously Bi, and to a degree Ambiguous Gender Identity.
I agree with ^^. The old name already got PRLC'd for the exact same issue (but worse, due to specifying autism). Seems that armchair diagnoses aren't going to stop that easily. Kill It with Fire.
I suggest taking this to TRS first.
^ TRS is too busy as is from what I've heard.
And not the right place, either. ZCE issues and people consistently getting a trope definition wrong are not by default a reason for TRS, they can also warrant a mere cleanup effort.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI've noticed misuse on the main page as well, which is surprising considering all the warnings against mentioning disorders.
Ambiguous Disorder entries not mentioning "This character fits [x]" applies to the entire site, right? I've seen a lot of entries on Character pages that do that.
