The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Rappelling itself would be People Sit In Chairs (though you might could make a Useful Notes page about the subject if you're looking for a project)
The Fast-Roping trope, just for the record, isn't about the practice so much as its about the way its used- its basically a semi-realistic substitue for a teleporter. Say, the Big Damn Heroes drop in through the skylight rather than handwaving how they got past security, or a Teleporting Keycard Squad is Justified by dropping them in from an unseen rooftop or helicopter.
Ah... When I first heard about the term years ago, I thought those two are different. I'll go and do some more reading first.
Me thinks the line about fast rope and rappelling behind different in the article should be clarified further so that it's more clearer to understand.
Edited by OminaeRappelling is different from fast roping, but the important thing for tropes is the narrative purpose.
People Sit On Chairs means "people sitting on chairs is not a trope, it is a thing people do." Now if you sit on a chair in an unusual way, or sit on an unusual chair, that's a trope.
Fast roping has a well defined purpose in a work:its how Badasses and well trained Mooks get down from high places quickly and into rooms with skylights. If you can find any patterns to portrayals of rappelling, that would be tropable.
You did mention doing rappelling as a useful notes project. Is that fine? I'm not too sure.
yep useful notes are different; they cover real life information about things like Gold, Alchemy, Court Systems, or Archery. Don't have one for rappelling yet.
Yo folks.
Mind if I check in there's a specific trope for rappelling or not? Just remember the fast roping trope page we have.
I tried to look into it. It seems a bit similar to fast roping in terms of application by police/military forces.
