Re: comments on my snippet a few pages ago:

I'll see what I can do, part of why it's limited on what they do is that it's a public school function. Which mostly rules out using golems and whatnot. If they did a private one for all classes, well, that might be different, but... not sure how well the school would tolerate that either. Might send Nitta after them or something. ^_^

I could probably snip out some of the less 'exciting' ones. Sayo's bit kinda requires it be a public one to have the nervous nuttering about the ghost being up there. (sigh) ^_^ Back to work with me. ^_^

We already have a real-life example of a high-order multiple birth whose resulting offspring all survived past infancy. Gentlemen, I present to you the "Octomom".

Also, 1) I think it should be obvious that I was considering an adult Anya from the get-go, and 2) she and Negi are mages, with several high-level mages in their circle of friends, acquiantances, (if it's a marry-more-than-one-girl situation) lovers, etc.; you're telling me that they didn't come up with magic that can help with high-order multiple births?

First, "Octo", meaning "eight." Ten would be a whole other level of complicated.

Second, we did assume a grown Anya. All of us may well have read DH, but we try to not assume that sort of stuff for random suggestions.

Third, maybe so in terms of magic. But really, the Octomom thing resulted from a mistake in the in vitro fertilization IIRC. For that to naturally occur would be lottery odds I think.

...

@Nobody Step three is "Aim at someone you don't like." But that is funny.

@Kurush I agree with Carrie. You can't quit now. You didn't quit when I suggested the "turning Mahora Academy into Bimbos" story, you can't quit now.

This whole thing reminds me of one common problem with the Ranma One Half fandom: Of the overwhelming majority of fanfics, if it's not an example of the horrible 90% of Sturgeon's Law, then it's more often than not an example of taking the canon's slapstick violence and feuds way too seriously (no, Akane is not a psychopath hell-bent on causing Ranma the utmost amount of harm no matter what; no, Ryouga is not an honorless bastard who purposefully peeps on Akane and/or any of her sisters in his piglet form, nor does he make a point of abusing Ranma's honor to cover up his secret; and no, there is no canonical evidence whatsoever that all the physical trauma that Ranma gets from Akane et al. has given him brain injuries — for God's sake, the guy recovers from having most of his body's bones broken within days at one point!).

Ah, sorry. I got sidetracked there. My point is that there's a reason why the Bellisario's Maxim exists: Don't think about the number too much if the premise not meant to be Played for Drama in the first place (which it isn't, if that wasn't obvious).

For that to naturally occur would be lottery odds I think.
... Yeah, and? It's Negi. Also, who's to say that a certain Born Lucky girl didn't wish them good fortune and "I'm 100% sure that you will have lots and lots of kids! ♥" when they got married?

I'd suggest jumping straight into some conflict, Eva. Right now you're just getting some exposition and character interactions out of the way, and that's ok, but you're better off hooking the audience with something else.

Speaking as a Jojo and Negima fan, reading that snippet doesn't really do much for me. A recap of Stands is only going to help those who don't know about Jojo, and Chisame and Misa's first meeting doesn't do anything to establish any differences from Negima canon. I already know that Chisame initially just wants to be left alone and lead a quiet life, away from the madness that is the rest of the class, and that Misa is a friendly, easy-going person.

As Uber points out, you might want to improve the whole recap. Really, I think it'd be more interesting for Chisame to try to figure out what Stands actually are in the middle of some fight or something - perhaps it would be more natural. Then again, that may just be me.

As a non-Jojo fan, I felt that the exposition was valuable.

Suggested nothing! I'm writing it.

Yes, everyone involved will be cured, and that will be starting in the chapter I am working on, but still...

...

As for Eva Unit's snippet, yes, I got valuable information out of the exposition.

I am also forced to agree with Crinias. I shouldn't have needed a pure exposition snippet.

Allow me to elaborate on my earlier suggestion. A one-chapter zany adventure in which Chisame discovers the following: Misa's Stand, how to use a Stand, and what a Stand's purpose is.

Do that first, then do the exposition afterwards. This is Chisame after all. Stubborn and snarky to the core.

Second Edit: Please note the above advice can be taken with a grain of salt, or any other seasoning for that matter.

Perhaps all of the cheerleaders have Stands, and Chisame happens to see them. Or not. Up to you.

Marq:

There needs to be a chapter that explains a few things about the Stand. Misa and Chisame (and whoever else) needs to have a zany adventure that helps explain a few more things about having a Stand, what it does, etc.

Because I still do not know what one really is. That will help explain things further to the audience, as well as give the girls time to adjust and get used to having a Stand. Or at least allow them to get along somewhat, given Chisame's personality.

As Uber points out, you might want to improve the whole recap. Really, I think it'd be more interesting for Chisame to try to figure out what Stands actually are in the middle of some fight or something - perhaps it would be more natural. Then again, that may just be me.
I was just thinking along those very lines, actually.

Problem is, I've somewhat shot myself in the foot by putting Chisame in contact with another Stand user so early - especially one who wouldn't be prone to exposition.

Hrm.... if I have them get mugged out of nowhere on the way to school the next day, that would give me a quick chance to have Misa demonstrate at least some of the basics about Stand. On the other hand, that would kind of be completely out of nowhere, and - <certain artist comes on the radio>

<looks at item in hand>

idea

Maybe if the mugger is also a Stand user.... hrm....

[nja]

I am also forced to agree with Crinias. I shouldn't have needed a pure exposition snippet.
No, in hindsight, I shouldn't have created one. I have this bad habit of trying to build my sandbox before I let myself play in it. Which, while logically sound for most other things, doesn't seem to translate well into writing gripping fanfic.

Allow me to elaborate on my earlier suggestion. A one-chapter zany adventure in which Chisame discovers the following: Misa's Stand, how to use a Stand, and what a Stand's purpose is.
What I'm trying to plan out, actually.

Do that first, then do the exposition afterwards.
More like during, probably. Explaining Your Power to the Enemy is a standard JJBA trope, and the series even provides the page image.

Perhaps all of the cheerleaders have Stands, and Chisame happens to see them. Or not. Up to you.
Madoka does not have a Stand. Sakurako's bizarre luck could probably be explained as a Stand, but that would sort of cheapen her, like with the discussion on Yuuki Rito's Accidental Pervert curse.

Also, in a little under seven hours, I'll be going onstage for my local college's production of Macbeth. Wish me luck!

Oh. I see.

This is why I allow myself a day for comments on my snippets/chapters before I post them. Then again, no one really commented on the Stultus Pulchram thing either, so there you go.

Break a leg. Preferably not your own.

How'd I make the Quotes section for you anyway?

We already have a real-life example of a high-order multiple birth whose resulting offspring all survived past infancy. Gentlemen, I present to you the "Octomom".

Whoo-dee-doo, a single recorded event that doesn't even reach to ten anyway.

she and Negi are mages, with several high-level mages in their circle of friends, acquiantances, (if it's a marry-more-than-one-girl situation) lovers, etc.; you're telling me that they didn't come up with magic that can help with high-order multiple births?

Why the fuck would anyone in their right mind want to have ten babies at once, especially in such already stressing circumstances as those anyone married to Negi would have to endure to begin with?

That's one of your problems, Marq. You start from a freaky fetishist premise and then you will twist even common sense to try and fit it in anyway. And God knows I've written my own share of stuff that generally works that way as well, but you tend to kinda look through it through rose colored glasses. Justifying something like this takes a lot of effort, and it's not something that will magically make everything good or better. Even in a gag context, it should be far more in the Black Comedy side of the scale than some quirky goofy silly fluffy joke.

I'm no doctor, but I get a tiny feeling that poses significant health risks for both the infants, the mothers own well being, and everyone's stress levels regardless of magic. I can barely see any pairing having more then two kids if any due to everyone's insane schedules.

Having Negi clone female versions of himself and call them his sister-wives would be more tasteful then that.

@Uber I want it on record that the only reason I really can't quit this fandom is because I haven't finished Pot M. I made a vow that I would see it finished with a happy ending, even if it would take years to make it so. I haven't even finished part 1 and I'm too stuck in the Pony fandom to pick it up again. And now with my US lesbian friend having lost interest in them herself, I might get back to it earlier than I thought, but that my Negima fic is the only reason I can't quit Negima.

So it isn't the fact about the Bimbo story. It's not the fact I'm barely here all the time. I'm here because I intend to finish the biggest story I've ever written.

Hell, I need to finish that Timesnatcher chapter I've been putting in a notebook just so I can take my potshot at UQ.
