Well, uh...this happened. Just a first draft.

Bruxish

Morphs (Oak Catalog Number)

  • Bruxish (#779)

Physical Description

Bruxish is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon. Average Bruxish specimens are .9 meters long and weigh 19.0 kilograms, with standard deviations of approximately .2 meters and 3.0 kilograms.

Bruxish is a ray-finned fish, though it exhibits a more laterally compressed shape than the standard fusiform morphology of most fish Pokémon. Bruxish has two small pectoral fins, and a single large fin composed of a fused dorsal, adipose, ventral, anal, and tail fin. It has eyelids, with small ornamental finlike flaps which resemble eyelashes. A bony protuberance emerges from the posterior end of Bruxish’s head, tipped with fleshy lobes that can open to reveal a blue orb. Bruxish’s jaw appears small but unhinges dramatically, revealing large, sharp teeth, not unlike those of a Sharpedo. Bruxish’s mouth is ringed by fat deposits and lobes of muscle which create a “lip” shape.

Bruxish is predominantly a bright pink, but it is covered with a variety of bright colors following a general psychedelic theme. The area around Bruxish’s mouth is a light teal. Beyond that, a ring of yellow extends outwards to the middle of its gills, extending outwards to cover its entire underbelly and a small area around its eyes. Teal spots mark its forehead, and the area under and behind its eyes. Its fins and the lobes of its protuberance are predominantly purple, with teal marks on its dorsal and adipose fins, the anterior ends of its pectoral fins, and the center of its tail fin. Bruxish’s eyelids are purple, and the “lashes” are teal. Its sclera are white, its irises are a bright pink, and secondary irises that expand and contract to manipulate the size of the pupil are teal. The chromatophores of Bruxish’s scales allow it to change in coloration, increasing and decreasing the vibrancy of its coloration depending on its mood and situation.

On exceedingly rare occasions, a genetic mutation in Bruxish results in highly distinct coloration. The mutation causes increased expression of pigmentation in the areas where pink coloration would normally be seen, giving Bruxish a red appearance in its lips and in the majority of its body. The mutation also disables the production of the pigments resulting in teal coloration, leaving those areas entirely white. Finally, the change in the conformation of pigments that ordinarily cause a purple coloration in Bruxish’s eyelids, fins, and protuberance causes those areas to become a pale green instead.

Notable Biology

Bruxish’s most notable feature is its jaw. Bruxish’s teeth are sharp, and the construction of its jaw allows Bruxish not only to bite down with exceptional force, but to grind its teeth together once its jaw is set.

The lobes on Bruxish’s head and the orb they cover are the site of a large cluster of nervous tissues, connecting to a second spinal cord that is protected by a secondary spine posterior to the primary spine. Bruxish can use this secondary spine to lock the primary spine in place, causing the lobes on its head to open. This action stimulates the nervous tissues in the lobes and orb, producing nervous signals that exert a psychic influence on Bruxish’s surroundings.

Bruxish’s primary use of its psychic abilities is the creation of a consistent psychic pressure against its surroundings. At lower levels, Bruxish uses this ability to detect the presence of other living things nearby, mostly prey or larger predators. At higher levels, it is an effective defensive mechanism, inducing headaches, a pervasive sense of needing to flee, and in exceptionally high concentrations, unconsciousness.

Bruxish exhibit three distinct morphological phenotypes. The first, colloquially known as the “Strong Jaw” phenotype, exhibit significantly greater muscle mass in their jaws, increasing their bite force dramatically. The second, known as the “Dazzling” phenotype, uses an unusual quality in its psychic influence to disrupt the focus of enemies, slowing them down and interrupting the use of fast-twitch muscles. The last phenotype is only observed rarely in the wild, and is known as the “Wonder Skin” phenotype. Bruxish of this phenotype can exert a mild telekinesis within their psychic field, disrupting the use of moves with low output strength (mostly those that cause effects other than direct injury).

Habitat

Bruxish are highly tropical Pokémon, inhabiting warm saltwater regions.

Bruxish are currently only found in Alola, mostly living off the southern coast of Ula’ula Island. They are found towards the seafloor of the shallow waters near coral reefs, where they wait under the sand to hunt for prey.

Bruxish are usually easy to locate, as the psychic pressure they exert on their surroundings causes extreme aversion in most marine Pokémon. An area where a Bruxish is exerting high levels of psychic power is marked by the absence of other Pokémon.

Social Structure

Bruxish are primarily solitary, becoming aggressive to other nearby Bruxish both in captivity and the wild. However, Bruxish will emit a psychic shriek in the presence of danger, alerting Bruxish in the more general area so that they can all flee at once. Other than this tenuous expression of altruism, Bruxish prefer not to interact with each other except during mating times.

Diet

Bruxish are predatory, and will prey on most other Pokémon, even occasionally going after larger ones. Its preferred prey is other fish such as Wishiwashi or Magikarp, but it will eat absolutely anything if food is scarce.

Bruxish’s primary method of predation is to bury itself in the sand of the seafloor, waiting for prey to approach. When another Pokémon draws close, Bruxish will exert an intense psychic pressure against it to stun it. Bruxish will then finish the prey off by biting it to death.

Bruxish will occasionally eat plant matter, mostly algae or seagrass, if prey is scarce.

Courtship and Childrearing

Bruxish can mate up to once a month, between the full and new moon. However, they mate most frequently during the early-to-mid spring, when the water temperatures in their habitats are best suited for spawning.

Male Bruxish will migrate to spawning sites during mating seasons. These spawning sites are located near the seafloor or on reefs. After finding an approximate location, the males will establish territories through agonistic behavior towards other males. Males will become highly aggressive during this time in order to best develop and maintain their territories. Once a Bruxish determines its territory, it will root itself and use its psychic pressure continuously for up to a day. This is done to ward off other Pokémon, clearly marking its territory.

Once a Bruxish has secured its space, it will begin constructing a hollow nest. As females enter the spawning sites, they will divide up into different territories. Male Bruxish exhibit polygyny, usually mating with all the females in their territory. Some variations on this behavior have been observed, such as female Bruxish forming their own territories within the territories of males. After mating, eggs will be laid on the seafloor. Bruxish eggs in the wild are very small, and will be stuck to sand particles to limit the potential for drifting away. Both the male and female Bruxish will take care of the eggs, defending them aggressively from predators, including other Bruxish. Females will also move the water around the eggs to ensure a steady flow of oxygen. Males will usually defend the females during this time.

Bruxish partnerships generally end as soon as the eggs hatch. Bruxish take no particular care of their children.

Hazards

Bruxish can be very dangerous Pokémon. They are highly aggressive, particularly around mating season, and they possess a variety of combat techniques.

Bruxish’s psychic abilities, while limited in versatility, are exceptionally powerful. Though rarely fatal, overexposure to a Bruxish’s psychic pressure will lead to severe headaches and disorientation in low doses, and in higher doses can cause unconsciousness, seizures, or even comas.

Bruxish’s jaws are its primary weapon in combat. A Bruxish bite is dangerous on its own, easily capable of breaking bones or removing extremities. Bruxish will also augment its bite with obscura to increase the force of the attack. Some Bruxish have been observed with toxic bites, or bites assisted by the use of a cryosac, but this is thought to be the result of crossbreeds with other Pokémon species. Finally, Bruxish can combine its psychic field with its bite to attack with incredible strength, causing severe damage and disrupting defensive barriers such as Reflect or Light Screen. This technique has been dubbed “Psychic Fangs”.

Bruxish have access to several other techniques besides their psychic abilities and bite. Against foes that are difficult to bite, they will slap with their tails, or charge at high speeds.

In a general way, Bruxish are to be avoided if one does not have a good reason to seek them out. While a competent trainer can handle them with limited difficulty, it is rarely a fight worth picking. As a Bruxish will rarely chase anything more than a few meters, it is usually best to just run away from an angered Bruxish.

In Human Society

Bruxish are, despite their aggressive personalities, held in high esteem in Alola. Their colorful appearance and unusual abilities have made them popular with both natives and tourists, and they are often considered a symbol of the islands. They feature in many songs and poems, due to their symbolism and the interesting arrangement of consonants in their name.

Even Bruxish’s less positive qualities have been put to use in Alola. In areas where swimming is popular, lifeguards will allow for the presence of Bruxish (or supply their own, trained Bruxish), which drive away other marine Pokémon that might disturb swimmers.

Bruxish are popular choices for Alolan trainers, though they are generally considered somewhat unsuitable for newer trainers due to their power and aggression.

If there's no entry for it I see no problem.

On another note, the 'Dex entries for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were leaked, should we wait for the games to come out before updating entries with the info they include?

In most things I'm in, I go with a "wait until it's officially released" rule of thumb, so that's what I'm suggesting here.

So I posted about this about ten months ago and never got a response, but the "International Most Wanted List" page is extremely bare-bones, the quality doesn't really gel with the rest of the entries, and it hasn't been touched since May 2014. I asked permission to revise/rewrite it, and I went ahead and did some drafts that I then forgot about until just now, which I'll go ahead and post here because why not?

    Naming Explanations
Since most characters in the series have Only One Name, most of these entries use the characters' foreign names as either surnames, first names, or aliases/nicknames, (for more details, Bulbapedia has a list of all their names across various localizations on each character's article). The ones not from their foreign names are as follows-

  • Giovanni's surname comes from the Viridian City and Team Rocket pages
  • Rocket Execs' surnames come from the rocketry companies/scientists associated with their "official" namesspecifically

I've got a few more ideas for other villains, but those are in the super rough stage of a rough draft.

Oh hey.

Drampa

Morphs (Oak Catalog Number)

  • Drampa (#780)

Physical Description

Drampa is a Normal/Dragon-type Pokémon. Average Drampa specimens are 3.0 meters long and weigh 185.0 kilograms, though their sizes can vary dramatically.

Drampa is a large draconid Pokémon, with a serpentine shape. Its neck represents approximately half its body length, and is highly flexible, containing over 100 vertebrae. Unlike snakes, however, it has a heavily-built torso, with small arms and legs ending in two-fingered claws. Drampa is also covered in soft fur, which grows longer and in different colors at some parts of the body than others.

Drampa has a long snout, with a wide jaw and a rounded, upturned nose. The fur under its nose grows out in large swirls, resembling a mustache, and it additionally has a trail of fur under its jaw resembling a beard. Its eyes are set facing forward, and are almost entirely pink, with no visible sclera and only very narrow pupils. They are protected by large, protruded brows, where Drampa’s fur grows in a bright yellow. Drampa’s cranium and ears are protected by thick, heavy fur which grows out as a large mop on either side of its head.

Drampa’s chest and underbelly are likewise protected by heavy fur. Its arms, usually kept close to its chest, are covered in large plumes of fur, giving it a limbless appearance at first glance. It has a short, curling dorsal spike in front of its tail, which consists of a long, rigid dock covered in heavy fur, allowing the tail to be swished from side to side.

Drampa’s shorter fur is a deep blue-green, with lighter portions on its underbelly, on most of its head except for a stripe leading to its nose, and in small spots on its flanks. In places where its fur is longer, such as its “beard” and protective coverings on its head, underbelly, and tail, its fur turns completely white, though occasionally yellows with age or can green due to algae growths.

On exceedingly rare occasions, a genetic mutation causes Drampa to not produce green pigment in their fur. Drampa with this mutation are a bright orange, with a cream-colored underbelly and deep blue brows.

Notable Biology

Drampa are able to hover and fly under their own power, though not very quickly. While young Drampa move primarily on foot, as Drampa get older they will eventually fly more and more, as their legs are not suited to efficient motion.

As is common for Dragon-types, Drampa have a wide range of effective abilities. They are able to produce flames or concussive force from pyrosacs and other, similar organs, their cries are loud enough to trigger avalanches and even cause internal injury, and many Drampa appear to even have rudimentary psychic abilities, creating barriers to defend themselves and attacking with telepathy.

Drampa exhibit three notable ability phenotypes, though only two are commonly found. The first exhibits a consistent pattern of adrenaline release in battle compared to other Drampa, with lower baseline release, followed by a dramatic spike when significantly injured. This adrenaline spike correlates directly to increased output of energy when attacking, and as a consequence it has been dubbed the “Berserk” phenotype after the stories of soldiers drawing upon unusual reserves of energy and entering frenzied states in combat. This phenomenon has also drawn attention as no other Pokémon has yet been found to exhibit it.

The second phenotype, colloquially known as “Sap Sipper”, is caused by unusual growth of algae within Drampa’s fur. These algae exhibit a symbiotic relationship with Drampa, obtaining a substrate on which to grow. The algae, in turn, rapidly metabolize sunlight, as well as, more curiously, ambient energy involved in the production of Grass-type techniques. In addition to the fact that this renders Drampa immune to the effects of these moves, it appears to benefit somehow from the algae’s consumption of this energy, giving it a short-term boost to strength.

On very rare occasions, Drampa will exhibit neither of these qualities. Instead, unusual facility with their innate psychic abilities allows for the creation of a field in which weather is heavily altered. The manifestation of this field creates an area of approximately 25 degrees Celsius, with no wind and low relative humidity. This field resists most attempts to change it, up to the point of nullifying battle-level weather conditions. This ability, which is commonly seen in members of the Psyduck line, is referred to as “Cloud Nine”.

Diet

Drampa eat berries exclusively. Despite their size, they eat astonishingly little, and a single Drampa will usually only consume a single tree’s worth of berries in a day. It is believed that even Drampa without the Sap Sipper ability have some capacity to store energy from sunlight, making up for their sparse diet.

Habitat

Drampa is currently only known to be found in the Alola region, on Ula’ula Island. Its heavy fur makes warmer weather uncomfortable, however, and as such Drampa spend most of their time on Mt. Lanakila. However, the berries they eat are not found on the mountain, as as such they frequently travel down to the base of the mountain, and even surrounding areas throughout the island, to forage.

Social Structure

Drampa, while not territorial, do not make much effort to spend time around other Drampa. Rather, they will more commonly “adopt” children of other species, including humans. Drampa have been known to treat entire villages in this way, and the majority of their interactions with other species follow this pattern of friendliness, to the point where they are commonly known as “the Placid Pokémon”.

While Drampa do not attempt to bring their adoptees back to Mt. Lanakila, they will often visit them while foraging, to check that they are in good health and to play with them. It will also protect these adoptees if they are in danger, often in a very proactive and aggressive way.

Courtship and Childrearing

Drampa are slow to mature in the wild, and mate only rarely. Drampa have no specific time of heat, and have varying patterns of partnerships, exhibiting monogamous pairings (for life or for brief periods), polyandry, and polygyny. A mating will usually produce only a single egg, with occasional instances of twins. Eggs are laid 5-6 weeks after mating, and hatch 7-8 weeks after being laid.

Drampa eggs require cold environments to incubate, and are generally kept in snowdrifts on Mt. Lanakila. The mother and father will both guard the nest from Sneasel, Yungoos, and Raticate during the incubation.

Young Drampa, while independent from birth, have few natural enemies, and usually survive to adulthood. In addition, most older Drampa will make an effort to take care of children.

Hazards

Despite their cute appearance and peaceful reputation, Drampa should not be taken lightly. Drampa are slow-moving and not terribly physically strong, but can produce tremendous amounts of energy in battle, especially those with the Berserk ability. An enraged Drampa is an exceptionally dangerous threat, on par with even dragons such as Hydreigon, Salamence, or Kommo-o. Drampa will most commonly attack with their breath, creating streams of green flame that can cause severe injury, as well as damage to nervous tissue that can cause paralysis. Drampa often also combine their rage with their psychic powers, overwhelming those nearby with a relentless psychic assault.

The most common reason for a Drampa to become enraged is the harming of a child under its care. Drampa will respond with immediate violence if a child is threatened in its immediate presence, and furthermore will aggressively defend children dealing with more long-term problems. It is not unheard of for Drampa to attempt to attack the bullies of children it protects, even attempting to destroy their homes under extreme situations.

Should you encounter an enraged Drampa, your best option is to simply run. It is unlikely to be able to pursue, and it will eventually wear itself out. Should you find yourself trapped, employ defensive tactics and attempt to wait out the Drampa.

With regard to being a specific target of a Drampa’s anger, it is best to not act in a way that provokes Drampa in the first place. Should you find yourself with a Drampa angry specifically at you, it is likely that leaving the island is your only recourse.

In Human Society

Drampa are beloved in Alolan society, due to their friendly natures, their protection of even human children, and their pleasant appearance. Drampa are welcome even in Malie City, and are sufficiently adapted to human presence that they stay out of roads, usually flying over buildings to spend time around schools and neighborhoods where there are numerous children.

However, Drampa and humans do not have an entirely peaceful relationship. Drampa’s rages, particularly those targeting people who harm its adoptees, can cause massive damage to people and property, and often bring Drampa into conflict with authorities. Fortunately Drampa can usually be calmed down without incident if talked to before entering a frenzy, but it is sadly not uncommon for bystanders to sustain injuries from incidents involving Drampa.

Drampa’s popularity and difficulties have led to it developing an unusual reputation among Alolan trainers. Many aspiring trainers have an interest in catching and training Drampa, but almost as many find that controlling it in the heat of battle is far more difficult than anticipated. Consequently, anyone who is able to train a Drampa for any real length of time is generally afforded a measure of respect from their peers.

I made one out for the Poochyena line:

Morphs [Oak Catalogue #]

Poochyena [261] - Lycaon morsus minor Mightyena [262] - Lycaon morsus major

Physical Description

The Poochyena line is a pair of Dark type caninds.

The juvenile form of the species, poochyena, stands roughly 0.5 meters (1'08") at the withers. The standard coat is largely grey with large black patches that cover the face, throat, belly, and paws. It’s eyes have yellow sclerae and red irises. It's nose is a birght red. Additionally the juveniles possess extremely large canine teeth on the bottom jaw that protrude outside of the mouth. Pawpads are a darker grey than the rest of the fur. Finally the fur grows wild and shaggy at the base of the tail and along the tail itself.

Upon maturity the mightyena sports a grey coat with black markings upon it’s paws much like the juveniles of the species, albeit at a much longer length. The eyes and nose have not changed. However, mightyena also possess large bands of black fur that trace down from behind the eyes all the way down their bodies to their flanks. The fur at the flanks grow much shaggier and wilder than the rest of the body save for the tail, which is black. The large canines the juveniles possessed have grown into the rest of the body and the lips have darkened to black. The small claws the juveniles had have now developed into large white claws that, while not used in combat, can deliver a painful scratch if not trimmed.

Like all species of Pokémon, this species have rare genetic mutations that discolor their fur. Instead of black on grey, this mutation causes a dark brown on blonde coloration and changes the sclerae and nose from yellow and red to a light blue.

Notable Biology

The Poochyena line has a very fine sense of smell, which allows the species to find and hunt down prey in the grasslands of Hoenn where they make their home. poochyena are known for their habit of making inquisitive bites out of anything that moves, a habit that many trainers quickly learn to curb when they acquire a wild poochyena or a domesticated one. While the bite is often harmless, it is still painful as the teeth are often sharp and can draw blood. Poochyena are also very determined hunters, following a sent until it’s quarry or itself is exhausted and cannot run anymore. However poochyena are also rather cowardly and will turn tail if the prey decides to fight back. If threatened, poochyenas will raise its hindquarters up and flair its tail to appear bigger.

Mightyena on the other hand are much more determined to hunt. Hunting packs formed out of the father and mother with their children are a force to be reckoned with, especially with a veteran leading them. Cooperation and leadership are vital in the hunt and through deadly coordination the mightyena pack can hunt down large prey. The mightyena also have a clear signal when they will attack, a deep growl as they flatten their body.

As Dark type Pokémon, Lycaon morsus naturally possess high levels of “Umbrate” within their cells and use it to deadly effects, strengthening their already powerful bites. Additionally their large levels of Umbrate strengthen their psychical attacks such as Sucker Punch, Assurance, and Throat Chop.

As with all species of Pokémon, there are three distinct sub-groups: For poochyena, there is the “Run Away”, “Quick Feet”, and rare “Rattled” or “Jittery”. The “Run Away” sub-group allows the Poochyena to make a quick getaway despite moves and abilities like Ingrain, Block, and Mean Look. This sub-group has a reputation of being rather cowardly due to the rarity of the “Rattled” type and their natural instinct to run instead of fight being heightened. The second sub-group, “Quick Feet” are seen as much braver than the “Run Away” group as their biology allows them to become quicker when affected by status effects such as poisoning and paralysis, the latter of which is weakened as these poochyena do not become slower when effected. This sub-group is much like their fellows in which they run at the first sign of danger but they can worry less about status effects. Finally is the rare “Rattled” sub-group. As cowardly the “Rattled” subgroup prioritize speed over power and much like the “Quick Feet” group become faster when hit by certain attacks, namely Dark-, Bug-, and Ghost-type attacks. If hit multiple times by these attacks the speed boost strengthens with each successive hit. Thankfully being Dark-types these Poochyena are hurt less from them, giving the Poochyena more time to run and lick it’s wounds.

Mightyena have the “Intimidate”, “Quick Feet”, and the rare “Moxie” sub-groups. The “Intimidate” sub-group uses their large and fearsome appearance to threaten opponents into letting their guard down out of fear. As such, opponents faced with a full pack of intimidating Mightyena are less likely to seriously injure pack members and becomes easy prey for the pack. Some Mightyena retain their “Quick Feet” ability and becomes as hard to hit as they were as pups if not more so. Finally, there is the “Movie” or “Overconfident” sub-group. When a Mightyena kills a prey animal or, in the case of rival fights and trainer battles, knocks out a rival (or even ally) the gain a boost of confidence and begin to hit harder and harder with each knock out. At a set point however, the ego of the Mighyena cannot get any bigger and the boost to its attacks stop mattering. The strength of these boosts should not be ignored however as a Mightyena at full boost can deliver extremely strong bites and attacks for an animal at its size.

Habitat

Lycaon morsus natural habitat is the grasslands of middle Hoenn region, specifically on Route 101, 102, 103. This species can also be found on Route 104, 110, 116, 117, 120, 121, 123, and in the Petalburg Woods northwest of the city. Non-native Lycaon morsus have been introduced to other regions such as Sinnoh Route 214, Kanto Route 1, and Unova Route 9 where they serve as a danger to the natural ecosystem, hunting and eating anything they can catch. Pokémon Rangers patrol for packs and catch any they find. This serves as a warning to people, trainers or not, to properly leave their Pokémon at pounds to be adopted instead of abandoning them in the wild to fend for themselves.

Diet

As stated above, Lycaon morsus is omnivorous and will eat anything they can capture and hunt. They also particularly enjoy the sweet soft flesh of the Pecha berry, as the Lycaon morsus are rarely found holding a fruit in their jaws. Although they hunt, Lycaon morsus are also opportunistic scavengers, eating anything they can steal from Zigzagoons and refuse left over from nearby settlements such as Mishiro (Littleroot) Town, Kotoki (Oldale) Town, and Touka (Petalburg) City.

Hazards

Lycaon morsus is not a Pokémon that should not be taken lightly, even as a juvenile. As Hoenn’s Professor Birch had found, Poochyena can be very determined when chasing humans, even following them up a tree and barking until they climbed down. Juviniles, while cowardly, can still deliver a nasty bite and need to be trained in controlling this habit. Adult Lycaon morsus are very headstrong and require a strong trainer to assert themselves as the leader of the pack and serve as a pseudo-parent (incorrectly referred to as the “alpha”). Only experienced trainers should consider having a Lycaon morsus as a part of their team, even if they are domesticated. Additionally, many cities and towns have enacted a ban on these Pokémon due to the danger they present, perceived or otherwise. However, if trained correctly and under the control of a strong trainer, Lycaon morsus can be a very affectionate Pokémon to those it knows, wagging its tail happily and covering faces with licks.

Social Structure

Lycaon morsus is a social animal whose basic pack is formed out of 5-11 members with the breeding pair at the top and the rest being their adult children. At times family packs group together, even up to 45 members, though this is rare and subject the availability of food in the area. In ideal conditions, a breeding pair can produce a littler of pups every year while the eldest of the family are forced out to produce their own packs and territories. This usually happens around 10 months at the youngest though some stay for 45 months at the eldest before being forced to leave. Lycaon morsus at times adopts young Poochyena into the pack due to them being not yet old enough to compete for breeding rights with the mother and sow competition with the pack for food.

Courting

Once forced out of the pack, Mightyena begin to prowl outside of their parent’s territory and look for mates to form their own packs and territory. Mightyena are sexually mature at around 4-5 years with 2 being the recorded (though Lycaon morsus has been recorded breeding at a mere 9 months old). Once they are old enough to live on their own, Lycaon morsus males begin to find their own mates, though these “Casanovas” do not for pair bonds with the daughters they breed with. Females, however rarely stay alone for long, finding a bonding male to start a pack. Breeding season starts late winter with pups whelping in early summer, where the weather is warm and prey is plentiful. In captivity, gestation is shorter and the pups are left to gestate and develop in hard eggs, though this has the effect of having the already small litters become smaller, as to make room for the eggs. Through the summer, pups quickly grow, play fight with one another, and hunt near the den. By late autumn, the pups are large enough to start hunting with the rest of the pack.

In Human Society

Lycaon morsus has a long history of folklore and myth of the native Hoenn peoples. They are seen as dangerous, cruel, crafty, noble, and brave. Their most common motif is of danger and destruction, with warriors taking the old Hoenn version of their name as a common addition to titles, showing the warrior’s strength and determination. More modern fairy tales shows that a Mightyena as a lair and potential rapist, using cunning words to sweet talk a girl and eating her alive and whole at the end of the story, only for his arrogance be the death of him. In modern times, Lycaon morsus is often type-casted as a cruel bad guy of animated shows and movies. For example, in the second film of a kung-fu fighting Pangoro, Mightyena are used as the main forces of the villain. High-schools and Colleges have Mightyena as mascots while Little League teams have a Poochyena for the same reasons. Mightyena have also gotten bad reputation with the eco-terrorists Team Aqua and Team Magma using these Pokémon as their signature fighters. As such, hatred for these Pokémon have flared up, with vigilantes hunting them down out of a misguided sense of anger and need to protect themselves and others. Wildlife protection groups have protested and raised awareness of their plight. Mightyena, as the groups present them as, are not viscous killers but rather noble animals. While Lycaon morsus is sometimes given this treatment, it will still be a long struggle for the idea of them being “savage killers” will take time.

You should have probably asked for dibs on this before, unless you did somewhere not in this thread.

Also looking at this... you based them on wolves, mostly? I've come to see the Poochyena line as more hyena-like. If others are cool with it it's fine since I'm not too involved, but I think you should at least take more cues from hyena biology and social structure (hyenas tend to be more matriarchal from what I know of them) in this than wolves' (And maybe a mention of the Lion King in regards to Popular Culture)

Those things being?

Anyway, after way too long in limbo, the Pinsir article is done.

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Pinsir [#127]
  • Mega Pinsir [#127-M]

Morphology and Notable Bio

Pinsir are a species of lucanid Bug-type Pokémon native to forests within the Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola regions. Standing at nearly five feet tall, or 1.5 meters, they are a dull brown in color with four limbs, a three-sectioned mandible, and dark eyes locked in a seemingly permanently aggressive expression. Beneath their elytra are small wings, but following thousands if not millions of years of evolution, they are mostly vestigial. Their most prominent feature are the pincers adorning their heads used to toss and/or tear apart prey and competitors. Rarely, there are Pinsir born with a purple rather than a dull brown coloration, which are greatly prized by collectors.

Compared to many other Bug-types that don't have a Flying or Grass secondary type, Pinsir are particularly susceptible to ambient cold, and as a result have to either burrow underground or hide within tree trunks when the temperature cools, lest their movements grow sluggish, and through prolonged exposure, may prove fatal. In places where snowy and/or below freezing weather is common, Pinsir have been known to entomb themselves completely underground and hibernate until warmer weather comes.

Well known for their territoriality, they are most famous for their battles with Heracross and the Grubbin Line due to the three species occupying a similar ecological niche. Pinsir and Heracross tend to be evenly matched, though Heracross tend to have more stamina, while Pinsir have better physical defense. Against Vikavolt, however, the matches tend to be more one-sided due to the latter's increased speed and ability to generate slashing winds, which Pinsir are weak against, along with its general advantage in power.

Three known subtypes of Pinsir are known to exist. One subtype has pincers that automatically sharpen when rubbed together, rendering them more or less immune to dulling. Another has an increased tactical aptitude, allowing them to bypass the natural defenses of a number of different Pokémon. The third, rarest subtype lacks either of these attributes, but upon defeating an opponent gains a battle high that increases the power of their physical attacks.

Upon exposure to a Key Stone and the Mega Stone Pinsirite, Pinsir will transform into a new form designated as "Mega Pinsir". Mega Pinsir on average "stand" (As they spend most of their time hovering using their new wings) at more than five feet tall, or 1.7m, and weigh 59 kg, a full 3 kilograms more than the average Pinsir. The thorns on their horns get larger and spikier, their limbs longer and more segmented, their eyes turn yellow and more angular, and their clear vestigial wings become full wings capable of carrying its weight. Pinsir born with purple coloration keep it upon Mega Evolution. On average the transformation makes them more aggressive, and they become stronger, faster, and more durable, with one Mega Pinsir being clocked flying at more than 30 mph, or 13.4 m/s.

One of Mega Pinsir's oddest traits is that its Normal-type attacks appear to gain the properties of Flying-type attacks, which gives them an advantage over their main rival, Heracross, as well as other Bug and Fighting-types. Scientists aren't quite sure how this ability, commonly known as "Aerilate" in competitive training circles, works, but theorize that it's at least partially related to Pinsir also gaining the Flying-type upon Mega Evolution.

Habitat

Pinsir, as mentioned above, prefer temperate and tropical forested areas, with stable populations being found within Johto's National Park, Route 229 in Sinnoh, Unova's Route 12 and Lostlorn Forest, and Route 12 in Kalos. An introduced population also exists within the Hoenn Safari Zone, and they were an uncommon sight within the former Kanto Safari Zone. Within Alola, three populations are known from the Lush Jungle trial site on Akala Island, Exeggutor Island west of Poni, and the Poni Grove on the eponymous island.

Diet

Pinsir are primarily known for being hunters, ambushing prey from bushes or dropping from trees, their exoskeletons easily blending with the tree bark, and using their pincers in an attempt to either break their spine, or outright tear them in half. If neither is possible, they will simply use their pincers to throw them into the hardest thing in the landscape, or off the nearest high place, in an attempt to kill via inducing a lethal concussion, or cracking their armor casing enough for the Pinsir to use other attacks. While generally known for attacking other, smaller Bug-types and Flying-types, they have been known to go for larger prey, grabbing their necks by their pincers in order to snap them.

However, their other main source of nutrition is tree sap, which is also one of the few things that can get Pinsir to gather outside of mating season if the tree in question happens to be large enough to support a group of them.

Hazards

While Pinsir generally aren't aggressive to things that aren't prey or competition, if they do consider something a threat they will attack with extreme prejudice, their fearsome visage often preventing more inexperienced Pokémon from even attempting to fight back. While Pinsir are well known for their many grappling and throwing techniques, including one known as "Irongrip" that paralyzes on contact, or simply tossing a hapless trainer or their Pokémon into a boulder or off a cliff, they are by no means limited to them.

Their other attacks include slashing with their horns, easily slicing through skin and muscle, taking hits on purpose only to return the damage tenfold, stabbing with their horns (which can easily prove fatal), and chopping and tackling with enough force to shatter brick and bone. This can easily be made worse if the battle is happening near other Pinsir, as they may be called in to help despite the species' infamous territoriality, and can easily cut off any escape routes.

Mega Pinsir, their aggression heightened by the Mega Evolution process, can occasionally go berserk, especially if neither trainer nor Pokémon are fully in sync, or if they are Mega evolving for the first time. Mega Pinsir can do everything their normal forms can, and more, due to Aerilate giving their Normal-type moves Flying-type attributes, which can lead to them literally shredding their opponents apart.

If cornered by a Pinsir, it is recommended that you attempt dissuading it with Repels, and if that doesn't work, use Fire, Rock, and Flying-type attacks to defeat it before it can call for help. While Mega Pinsir is far more powerful, the drawback of its new typing is a new Electric and Ice-type weakness, on top of the weaknesses it still has. While Pinsir's exoskeleton proves resistant to physical attacks, it does not work as well on energy-based techniques, and they tend to lack the stamina for prolonged battles.

It is also recommended to have Pokémon such as Heracross or the Grubbin Line stay in their Poké Balls in areas known to hold Pinsir, as it can be a coin toss as to whether they will attack or not, with the chances increasing with the scarcity of resources in the area and the extant presence of wild representatives of these lines. For these reasons, while Pinsir can be as loving as any other Pokémon when trained, they are generally not recommended for beginning trainers. [[Trainer's Note:While grooming your Pinsir, avoid handling the tips of its horns, as it may instinctively attempt to grab and throw you if you are not careful.]]

Courting and Childrearing

Pinsir mating tends to be a competitive affair, with male Pinsir locking horns in an attempt to woo females by throwing their rival off a log, or even off a cliff, though generally both sides tend to survive the encounter. After mating, the female Pinsir will find an area filled with decaying plant matter in order to lay her eggs, before leaving them to their fate.

The Pinsir eggs hatch on average after a month, and the young Pinsir immediately go their separate ways, unless there happens to be a food source big enough to support them all nearby.

Social Structure

Pinsir are generally solitary, only coming together to mate or when there happens to be a large enough food source to support a large amount of them, which makes them willing to tolerate one another. In those cases, when attacked Pinsir are willing to call others in their group for help.

Despite being known for their enmity with Heracross and the Grubbin Line, it appears to be to some degree a learned behavior, as members of the species raised in captivity do not exhibit the same amounts of aggression towards these Pokémon. In fact, within Alola, Pinsir and Heracross are known to team up against the Grubbin Line in their fights over territory.

In Human Culture

Within popular culture, Pinsir is most well known for its rivalry with Heracross in most of its range and the Grubbin Line within Alola, which has inspired a truly staggering amount of Bug-type themed media, particularly within the part of the world comprising Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Within this media, most often superhero shows, Pinsir often takes on a more antiheroic or even outright villainous role, compared to how Heracross are almost universally depicted as heroic.

Historically, Pinsir parts were used in folk medicine in order to relieve ailments or eaten as a delicacy, and many indigenous cultures in the regions Pinsir were native to would traditionally wear Pinsir totems as a source of good luck. Amongst the military and law enforcement, many models of mancatcher were based directly on Pinsir's jaws.

Nice work on the Pinsir article, rmctagg09. I especially like how their courtship rituals mirror those of actual stag beetles.

Does anyone have any plans to do a Geodude revision to take its Alolan form into account? Because I'd be interested in doing that, assuming it hasn't been done already and nobody else has plans for it.

Here's my revision of the Zubat Line article. I'm gonna leave it exclusive to here so that people can read the other version more easily.

Zubat Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Zubat [#041]
  • Golbat [#042]
  • Crobat [#169]

Notable Biology

The Zubat line is a family of bat-like Pokemon

Zubat, the youngest form, has blue fur and, more notably, no eyes or nose on their face, their legs are also thin and floppy, and their feet have not developed yet, as most specimen in this stage are young, ranging from newly-born to about one year old.

Once it evolves into Golbat, their wings get larger, they develop a short pair of feet, small beady eyes, and a huge mouth that covers most of their body surface. They can also cover their bodies with their wings, almost as if they were wearing a cloak, and walk unsteadily along the ground. The wings are also used to wrap around their young in female specimen, providing them with warmth and safety.

The most mature form, Crobat has purple fur unlike its predecessor forms, as well as larger eyes than Golbat; their mouth is somewhat big, but not as large in proportion to the rest of their bodies as Golbat's, and their tongue is small enough to fit comfortably inside. The most interesting thing about Crobat is that its legs resemble a second set of wings, enabling it to fly at extremely high speeds. The wings and legs can also be used alternately, with one set of limbs flapping while the other rests, to allow the Crobat to fly long distances. However, the Crobat's legs are no longer suitable for use on the ground, and also have a difficult time latching onto walls; this makes it difficult for the Crobat to stop and rest. As with Golbat, mother Crobat use their wings to wrap their pups in.

Habitat

Zubat and Golbat reside in many caves in the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kalos, Alola and Galor regions. They are extremely common wherever they reside; it's much harder to avoid Zubats and their relatives than to find them. Crobat are notably rarer; while the occasional wild specimen in Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kalos, Alola and Galar is not unheard of, there have been no recorded sightings of wild Crobat in Kanto, for reasons that remain unknown.

Diet

Zubat, Golbat, and Crobat drink blood from other mammalian Pokémon, and they also hunt insects such as Venonat (their diet about being half of each). Being part Poison-type, they can eat poisonous insects without any problem unlike other Pokemon based on bats (though other bat Pokemon feed primarily on fruit, insects form just a small part of the diet of those bat Pokemon).

Hazards

The primary hazard for this line is that they will sometimes infest houses among other buildings, much like certain rodent Pokemon, usually taking residence in the attic. Unlike rodent Pokemon, the main reason for Golbat and Crobat infesting houses is supposedly finding a satisfactory place to rear their young. Signs that Pokemon of this line have infested a building include a buildup of guano, or droppings, which is actually important as it is often mined from areas these Pokemon can be found such as caves for use as fertilizer, being rich in nitrates. (The droppings of other bat Pokemon are mined for this purpose as well.) There are proper protocols to take to exclude these Pokemon from your house. In all regions where they are found however, it is illegal to perform exclusions when there are pups present, as if such an action is done, the pups will starve to death. This is a standard law for all developed countries where bats live.

Courting and Childrearing

Although all three stages of the line can reproduce in captivity, where eggs are produced, only the Golbat and Crobat stages usually mate in the wild. There are several breeding seasons for Golbat and Crobat. In Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Alola. female specimen choose a mate, and once they have mated, retreat to special caves or other places in the Pokemon world to have their young, called maternity colonies.

Kalos-based specimen don't necessarily form traditional maternity colonies, living in trees instead.

Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Alola-based Golbat and Crobat give birth to one baby Zubat, referred to as a pup, at a time. In Kalos, Golbat and Crobat mothers can have anywhere between one and four pups, like red bats. The pups have very short fur at first, their ears are closed and their wings are not developed.

The mothers feed their pups milk for the first few months. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Alola-based mothers leave their pups in the maternity colonies while they hunt for food, returning at least twice a day to feed their pups. Kalos-based mothers fly with their babies clinging to them.

A number of expectant mothers migrate from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Alola to Unova (where the Pokemon are not native) to raise their young. One of the most notable maternity colonies there is the Skyarrow Bridge, where hundreds of thousands of mother Golbat and Crobat raise their Zubat pups each year and feed on the local Bug Pokemon there as well as the blood of the local mammalian Pokemon. During the summer, many people, both local and from all over the world, come to the bridge each night to see the mother Golbat and Crobat emerge from under to begin their hunts for food. An even larger maternity colony of these Pokemon can be found in McCracken Cave north of Nimbasa City, where millions of mother Golbat and Crobat raise Zubat pups each year. This cave is likewise a popular tourist attraction.

In Galar and Paldea, Golbat and Crobat mothers take part in communal raising of the Zubat pups, much like vampire bats in other areas of the world. Mothers will take on pups that get orphaned.

During this time, the pups' fur becomes thicker, their ears open, their wings grow and they learn how to fly. As soon as they are weaned they set off on their own to join another colony.

In all regions where the line is found, many people build special houses for these Pokemon to live in to as an alternative to living in human-inhabited structures. Many specimen of this line do inhabit these houses and pups are raised in them often.

Occasionally Zubat pups will get separated from their mothers, and nearby humans will make efforts to reunite the families. Many times they are successful.

Overall, like other evolved bat Pokemon and bats in general, Golbat and Crobat mothers are very devoted to their pups, being very nurturing and protective of them. This is one of many reasons people have taken interest in bat Pokemon.

Galar and Paldea

In most of Galar, it is currently illegal to capture a specimen from this line. Many other Pokemon are also illegal to capture there.

In June 2020, it will become legal to capture these Pokemon in the Crown Tundra, but nowhere else. It remains illegal to capture them in Paldea.

Social Structure

All members of the line can be found together in colonies across every region of the Pokemon world. Zubat that have weaned off their mother's milk can either join their mother's colony (which is often done by females) or join a new one. Golbat and Crobat form the more mature stages of the line and so will be seen as the leaders of colonies.

Maternity colonies, as mentioned above, form when expectant Golbat and Crobat get together to have their pups, dissolving when the pups have weaned.

Trainer's Notes

Zubat and all members of its line are very common in all regions they are found in. With the exception of Orre, due to its overall lack of life, Zubat and Golbat are always in season and may be freely battled and captured.

Zubat and Golbat are frequently caught due to their high numbers, but their fangs must be blunted before they are allowed to participate in official battles. It is relatively easy for a Golbat to evolve into a Crobat in captivity if it is treated with love and affection. However, they are mostly used by beginning trainers with few other Pokémon. Crobat, in particular, are hardly seen in official battles; notable users of Crobat include Elite Four member Koga ****, his daughter Janine of Fuchsia City, and the leaders of various crime gangs across Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh.

In Human Society

Although a number of people have a fear of bat Pokemon of all species, there are also people who like them as well, and some of these people run rehabilitation centers for these Pokemon all across the Pokemon world. Famous is the Kalos Bat Pokemon Clinic which treats adults and pups from all evolutionary lines of bat Pokemon.

A common misconception is that this line, and other bat Pokemon, are flying rodent Pokemon. In truth, bat Pokemon are much more closely related to primate Pokemon (like the Mankey line, the Chimchar line, and the elemental monkeys).

One notable pop culture appearance of this line is in a popular children's cartoon about an 11-child family where the middle child is the only son. One of the boy's younger sisters is a goth, and has several pet specimen of this line, including a Golbat named Fangs.

An entire comic book franchise features a superhero that is heavily inspired by Crobat. Orphaned at a young age, he is taken in by his eventual butler. His alter ego is that of a well-known millionaire.
